Ruth: That centerpiece must have really been something! Winking Hope your foot gets better soon.

    Patoo: Yikes! Scary, scary, scary.

LB: We are having beautiful spring weather. Our dogwoods and azeleas are gorgeous.

TH: That's crazy about your phone app!

Yesterday dh and I mowed, cleaned the garage, and then went for a walk. Lots of activity. Today has been rest day.

Thanks for all the voices! Two Hobbies - that drill sargeant one is ringing in my ears! Got home this evening from Wilmington, so I spent most of yesterday and today in the car, but I did get some walking in today on the campus of UNCW. Weather was beautiful when the wind wasn't blowing, but was a little chilly when it was whipping around.

Ruthbru - sorry to read about your foot - hope it is feeling better soon and definitely a bummer you didn't win the centerpiece!

Pattoo - very scary about the outlet! Glad it was discovered and is being fixed. Enjoy the new fitbit and being back on track!

4/12- a trip to the gym for a solid hour of resistance training. I have been a bit off with my cardio this week, but made a plan to get back on track with that this week.

DD, DH and I walked around downtown today and then took a short walk this evening. Neither was very long or very taxing, but it was nice to out together. :)

LAST CALL for some SUMMER FUN!

Since we are now exactly two months out from our summer adventure, I thought I'd repost one last time for newbies and anyone else who has been on the fence or whose summer plans might have changed:

Five years ago patoo, hbcheryl, badger, and I decided that we would like to meet up in real time; so we planned a long weekend in Minneapolis, had a blast, and since then have made it an annual tradition. We have been delighted to joined by fellow adventurers (and local ladies from each spot) along the way....Chicago, Washington DC, and last year we toured the California coast from LA to San Francisco. Below is the information for this summer's trip. We really, truly hope that YOU will consider joining us! If you have more questions or are 'in' send me or one of the other gals a PM.

    2015 BCO SUMMER ADVENTURE

Saturday June 13- ruthbru, patoo, sweetandspecial, hbcheryl, badger plan to be in San Diego by about noon. hbcheryl will be driving, and the rest of us flying in. We will stay downtown that night & Sunday night doing 'San Diego Tourist Things' ..... Coronado Island, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, touring the US Midway Museum, a play, a ball game, a harbor cruise, and lunch with BCOs 'San Diego Ladies' are some of the fun options for the weekend.

    * Monday June 15 at 4pm we check into the Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort, where we have reserved two two bedroom suites. The resort has a restaurant, library, pool, game room, lounge & is right across from the pier and ocean beaches. It's near lots of neat restaurants in the town of Oceanside, the historic Mission San Luis Rey, a Surf Museum, shopping, and the Oceanside Pier Plaza Amphitheatre, hiking trails. It sounds like a beautiful place to spend some time. We will have plenty of room for you! (As long as you are flexible (in attitude) and don't mind sharing accommodations with people you don't even know.) Loopy We check out and head for home Friday June 19th. Badger's lovely mother has a time share with Wyndham and has offered to let us use her points for our rooms, so there will be no lodging costs for those nights (other than to chip in some money for a fabulous thank you gift!!!!!).

A number of our Southern California friends are already planning to join us at various points during our time at Oceanside.  (If you are from California and want to meet up with us in San Diego or Oceanside, let us know & we'll get you on the group e-mail list.)

These trips have really been extraordinary and wonderful experiences. We hope you will consider joining us if you can!

Very discouraged with regard to exercise. I am 7 weeks out from lumpectomy and two weeks into radiation. I cannot seem to do anything without creating muscle spasms in the side of my surgery and lower back. All I can think is that having to give up my normal routine, esp my water aerobics and yoga, plus the seroma and drainage I went though with the armpit incision, has tightened up and thrown off my whole right side to a terrible extent. Even having to pay to have my yard work done! GRR. It has made me terrified to do anything for the next four weeks, I am so afraid I will overdo it to the point that I cannot lay down on the radiation table or stretch my arms up. I am meeting this week with a Restorative Exercise Specialist that I hope will at least be able to give me some things to do to get myself mobile again. As soon as rads are over I'm gonna get a referral for a PT and start back towards trying to get my body in balance again, meanwhile I just hate not working up a good sweat:((

Sounds like you are doing the right things with the Restorative Exercise Specialist and PT. For right now, just concentrate the lower body......save the upper for later. Do you feel okay when you walk? If so, that could cover the aerobic part for now.

I can walk if I just do it normally lol. But when I went for a 45 min walk which included cutting through fields and going up hills, walking briskly arms pumping etc., that was enough to set the muscles off. So just walking normally on sidewalks I guess for now:(

cbaird - I am sorry you are having difficulty with your recovery. I think it just takes time. I think it's good not to push yourself too hard--your body knows what it can handle. And don't knock yourself--surgery and radiation are hard on the body!

ruthbru and everyone - I so wish I could join you. It sounds like a fun and fabulous time coming up in CA!

Just walking today--still coughing up junk.

katcar, thanks!  I felt your hug across the miles!  So sorry you lost your mom so young.  I lost mine two years ago to brain cancer.  It's actually one of the reasons I wanted to go back to school.  My mom was an educator and even though she knew I had a really good job, she always wanted me to go back for something that really meant something to me--something I could truly love doing.  (She went back to school in her thirties to become a teacher.)  It was her dream for me and I was so happy to finally be doing it.  With all the future unknowns this dx brings, I just can't risk the big pay cut to start over right now.  Maybe some day...

Yesterday was another beautiful day in Wisconsin.  I ran 4.2 miles followed with some stretching and a few Pilates exercises.  Afterward, I went shopping.  I bought some cute yoga pants.  Going to try some classes while in Mexico on vacation.

cbaird, it is so frustrating!!!! Can you do abs, hips, thighs, buns, legs......lower body exercises without setting off the muscles? Maybe experiment around with them.

katcar, you are already in my word document of 'people to notify when we plan next year's trip' (as is anyone who has expressed even a remote interest in it Smile).

I went to yoga & modified the poses to keep pressure off my poor bruised foot as much as possible. I will try Zumba tonight & see what happensShocked.

25 minute walk after work with my husband and dog after a tough day at work. Pretty good stress relief but i might still need chocolate. or wine and chocolate! LOL.

Cbaird I think the exercise experts will help you get back on track. Just be patient. Surgery, radiation and the rest of this can really take it out of you but in time you'll get there.

cbaird, it sounds like you're being smart about things. Surgery and rads are assaults on our bodies.

Did day 1, week 2 of the C25K today. I got changed to exercise before taking DD to ballet, so that once I got back home I was all ready to go! Once I sit down on the couch, it's too easy to let inertia set it. ;)

hi all, did do a 2nd walk yesterday afternoon, it was so nice.  Today, got out for a 30-min walk at lunchtime which was good as DH had a nice supper in the oven when I got home from work.  He's a keeper!

welcome cbaird, it's frustrating but easy does it please, you'll be covered in "liquid awesome" soon enough!

I was lacking energy today.  Didn't sleep well last night in anticipation of my first mammogram follow-up today (went great--all clear!!).  Did a short run.  It was windy and I couldn't keep my breath which was frustrating.  Also did a walk with my pup.  Managed a few floor exercises while watching Dancing with the Stars. Ha!  Floor exercise??  Not to be confused with Olympic gymnastics.  More like a half-hearted Pilates routine Loopy.  Tomorrow will be a better day!

So, after not posting for the last two and a half months, I need to catch up. I first posted a week after my mastectomy. I was just getting back to my workouts. Someone asked about my 'name'. I'm an in-home personal trainer (for the last 14 years) and one of my clients gave me that name because I'm short.

Anyway, I've been doing my workouts every morning (TRX, cycling, weight-training etc) with a two-week hiatus because radiation made my underarm and breast area raw and weepy. Additionally, my fatigue from the 36 treatments have really taken a toll on my energy level. I still work out, but can't do high intensity, and if I don't get the workouts done in the morning all I can manage is walks later in the day.

I go to bed around 8:30-9:00 and really am beat by that time. But, today was my final radiation treatment and my RO says my energy should start increasing in the next month so I'm looking forward to getting more vigorous.

Yay for all clear, Meijo! That must be a big relief, and you'll sleep great tonight. I am sorry to hear about you losing your mom recently to cancer as well (damned disease). I hope that one day you can fulfill your dream and her wishes for you.

Mel, congratulations on the clean mammo; and Evilm, congratulations on being done with rads!

I went to Zumba tonight & did a very low impact version....100% more exercise than just sitting in my recliner!

Ruthbru, cannot really do anything but what I have to do to get through the day...work (I have to climb a steep set of stairs many times a day to get to my office, and walk from building to building to get stuff), walk dogs, housework etc...afraid to do much more. I have never been afraid of my body but having this radiation hanging over my head is a new thing for me. I will see what the RES has to say Thursday nite when I meet with her. Got a scrip for muscle relaxers from the onco yesterday so hopefully that will help too...

Not everybody has a bad time with radiation. I could actually feel my energy returning during it (I had chemo first so I am sure that had something to do with that, it is pretty hard to feel crappier than you do while on chemo).

Did my Cardio Sculpt class (carefully, foot is at about 85% of feeling normal) & will go to yoga tonight.

Had windows open over weekend - bad idea. Forsythia blooming everywhere and my nose is like a faucet. I started taking allergy meds back in February and still this has hit me hard. Spent last night on couch and probably same tonight. Love to see the flowers and trees blooming but I am super allergic and it wipes me out. Probably be in bed by 8 as I will try and knock myself out wiith benedryl.

    Night sculpted friends.

Last Tuesday (had had macrobiopsy previous Friday), had attended step class (no 'raisers' under the step), done a couple of series of assisted pull ups, and taken a VO2max test on the crosstrainer (47, really pleased). However, in a lot of pain (breast and armpit) the next day, had to go to bed at 8pm with paracetamol/codeine (1st painkiller I had to take since the biopsy).

This Tuesday, breast almost recovered. Attended step class (1 set of 'raisers' under the step) + took VO2max test (43) again. Will see how it goes tomorrow. Am expecting the results of the biopsy so really needed to sweat off the stress. Seeing the surgeon next week, but think I will probably get a phone call, and really nervous.
