I made it through my 12 hour night shift Fri and Sat and slept for a few hours when I got home today so hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight and be fresh for my appointment with the surgeon in the morning. I know I have to have at least a lumpectomy but will also be going over the results of MRI and CTs and setting a date to get this show on the road. I was able to access my CTs at work since thats where I had them and they all looked good except for 2 - 3cm nodules on my R lung. May be nothing but it worries me as I was a heavy smoker for 36 years although I quit 10 years ago. Amazingly my chest Xray showed good clear lungs overall. Haven't seen the MRI results but never heard back from them so I'll accept that as a good sign.

Wish me luck tomorrow. Although I'm more then ready to get this over I'm afraid its going to be a long night, I've cleaned the house from top to bottom since I got up this afternoon.

Welcome to all the newbies! Dianarose I started out taking Tamoxifen and took 10mg for 6mos. and then the Onc increased me to 20mg.  I asked him why he increased my dosage and he told me that 20mg was the standard dosage.  I am now on Arimidex 1mg.  The Tamoxifen didn't work for me too many SE's.  It's different for everyone.  Good luck!

Sheila I'm so very sorry about the SIL.  When she passes from this world she will be at peace.  Prayers continuing for her, you and her family.

I came across this article this morning and I am going to print it and bring it with me to my MO appointment. I know they say you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but it's out there and I want to question it. The article is quite scary.

    http://www.all-natural.com/tamox.html

Maybe some of you have seen this and already quesioned your doc's about it.

I just checked and Tamoxifen is on California's list of state carcinogens which was stated in the article I previously posted.

Dianarose:  Sadly, I was given DES to prevent miscarriage back in the early 60's.  Now I have to constantly remind my DD to get her pap smears and breast exams for fear that she is going to develop cancer as a result of my being given this bad drug during pregnancy!

I was told that birth control pills were perfectly safe, and after my hysterectomy, I was told that it was ok to take premarin because it would protect me from heart problems and bc!  Now I have bc!

I'm being told to take tamoxifen because it will prevent bc recurrence...well...I'm approaching it with a big caution signal, starting with only 1/2 the dose recommended to see if my body will tolerate it.  The use of estriol and progesterone to prevent bc would be an approach that I would be more interested in following, but even my naturopath is cautious about that, so for the moment, all I have is the tamoxifen.  It is really sad that there aren't studies being done on something less toxic that could help prevent bc in women.

Kaara- If I end up deciding to take it I am like you. I won't start with the full dose either. My sister took the drug they had out in the late 70's for morning sickness. She had a girl and this poor thing has so many issues and can not have children as a result of it.

Funny you gals would mention DES........I have 6 children.........when I was pregnant with my 2nd, I began to spot, and appeared I might have a miscarriage.................At the time a couple friends were having similar problems, and we got in a discussion about it....................They told me they were on a drug to stop a miscarriage, and was shocked my Dr. had not put me on the same thing.

At my next visit I asked my Dr........"why don't you give me that pill so many are taking to stop  miscarriage"............"I have friends on it, and they can't ;understand why I am not..............

His answer was,  "old fashion for the times"....................a miscarriage is natures's way of getting rid of a "fetus" that could have problems, and was not meant to be brought to term".............................fabulous Dr., loved the man, but at the time I thought..................Wow, that is an odd statement, but I guess I was one of the lucky ones who had an "old fashion" Dr. who thought..............let nature take its course...............eventually the spotting stopped, and I went on without incident to have a healthy baby girl.

Both my friends had girls also.............1 had twins, and the other a single birth..................their daughters all have DES.....................so in the end, my Dr.s advice was the best, I would assume......................

As far as the drugs for us ER/PR+ ladies, let's just say ......."your damned if you do, your damned if you don't........................Its the luck of the draw......just like getting BC........and like I always say to my kids ...........IT IS, WHAT IT IS....................Hugs ladies

luvmygoats, you are gonna have to stop following me around, I lived at Ewa Beach and then came back to the states and was in TX awhile til I had to come to FL to take care of my aging parents. Sorry they passed but at least they dont have to see me go thru all this bc. I am on Arimidex just started and at first fine, after the first wk,I got most all the usual side ef on the list except of course the serious side effect list which further down on the pkg insert. I told my friends,I am gonna go on with my flat coke and crackers,I am not gonna chance cancer coming back. hate it. did a bmx to get rid of it when I could have tried a lump area of IDC and crossed my fingers or done a uni. How come all the studies I can find on Arimidx are done by Astra Zeneca? I can study myself and say whatever! Isnt that a conflict of interest? Hope this junk works. I have not had joint pain yet but nausea, headache, anxiety, chest pains etc. did get and the night sweats OMG.. I wore a t shirt here in FL and my requred bra for the TE and my knickers (polite word from England for undies but I am not English,my ancestors were Scots) anyways I woke up with the AC on and my shirt was soaked with sweat and I am so stinky!Guess I gotta get the clinical strength deo now, huh? I never knew this disease was gonna be so complicated (yeah Avril Lavigne it sure the hell is!)
