    Dakota,

I know that the American Cancer Society offers transportation for those that may need it. I did not drive until about 2 weeks after my surgery and even that was difficult (when reversing). Just take that into consideration.

In addition to the ACS most hospitals and/or health systems have breast cancer navigation programs.  Sometimes it's just one nurse, but it's often a team of people.  If navigation services weren't offered through your breast surgeon's office you might inquire.  There might be a wealth of help out there that's available to you.  The navigation team is a great place to turn when you have any sort of question or problem.

I had a small tattoo placed over my port scar. A single orange blossom vine, with blossoms and petals falling. A small bluegreen hummimgbird is hovering above the vine.  The tatoo hurt, it bled a little. But one year later it still looks good. Seeing that every day, gives my spirit a boost.

Hi !!  I'm new to this site (and all of this really).  Just had double mast. almost 2 weeks ago.  Had TE put in.  Now my nipple (on side with cancer) is scabbing/bleeding and looking nasty.  You think I'm gonna lost it?

I love to hear these stories of beautiful tattoos, but I must ask - are any of you not concerned about lymphedema  ?

( btw, I believe I have breast LE)

When I saw a physical therapist after my surgery, she only talked about avoiding injuries to the arm where my nodes were removed from.  And then she stressed not allowing a cut or wound become infected.  She didn't seem to care much at all about injuries to other areas of my body.  I don't think I'm going to worry too much about a tattoo on, say, my back, other than to be extra careful about keeping it clean.

It could be that I Should worry, and she just didn't give me all the information?  Idk.

Kim556644 - I'm glad you were able to have nipple-sparing surgery.  It's not unusual for the nipple to look pretty scary as it's healing.  Definitely keep an eye on it, but don't panic yet!

You might find it helpful to check in on the Nipple-Sparing with Immediate Reconstruction thread.  The title is a little misleading, but there is a mix of both women who are going the TE route (reconstruction started immediately after MX by having the TEs put in) as well as some who have had direct-to-implant surgery.  Lots of nipple talk over there Laughing .

    Best wishes!

They tattoo aereolas on reconstructed breasts all the time. I would think if it was an issue we would hear more about it. There may particular individuals for whom it may not be wise due to a particular condition, but I think the biggest thing would be to make sure you are using a reputable tattoo artist that uses sanitary equipment and that you care for it correctly to avoid an infection.

No, cottontail I was referring to ppl who get the tatts near the breast area.

I dont know that you would hear more about it if it were an issue.  Nobody told me I could get breast LE  3 weeks after a simple LE with no radiation!  Its not about infection

NEEDLES  pose a high risk for LE  Thats all I am stating. Nipple tatts may be worth the risk, but knowing what I know now , I would never chance  a pretty rose or butterfly on/ near my breast.  LE is a pain and  can lead to celliulits which can risk your life.

It was me that made those remarks, not cottontail. Just an observation on my part. I've never had a tat and don't profess to be an expert on tats or lymphadema. I plan on having mine on the opposite arm just to be safe if I get one. Smile

Purple, I understand what you're saying, I was just posting what my PT told me. She went on and on about avoiding infection in the affected arm. She was very specific.

I will say that I have some concern, as I have a ganglion cyst on my left wrist (the bad side). If it ever becomes painful, having it removed would pose a LE risk. But I suppose I will worry about that if/when it happens.

No, I was talking to cottontail as a reply Mini.

Cottontail- I sincerely hope you never have to worry about it ----and that the ganglion resolves on its own.  My husband had one for quite some time and it did!

The doctors put ports in the opposite side of the body. I had breast cancer in my left breast. Port was placed on my right side, an inch or so below the collarbone, with the tube going into the jugular. No risk of lymphadema for the tatoo. Use a licenced tattoo artist.

Interesting.  Yesterday had an annual eye exam and let the Dr know I'd had BC since the prior exam last year.  She asked which kind.  When told her BC, she was emphatic that it was good to have them checked.  Between regular and dilation exam, all was well.

Never would have thought about the eyes, other than glasses.  Which thankfully, the Rx hasn't changed.  First time in years for that!

I think all the als can cause eye issues.....blurring, red and itchy and, as you said, cataracts....BC ..the gift that keeps on giving.

I never heard eyes were a place for BC mets and I have to wonder if thta is accurate ...yep, even if said by a DR.  Could be wrong...google away!

It IS a place of concern for those on tamoxifen though, as a SE , not as mets.

Auntienance - thanks for the link. I have mentioned vision issues several times to my docs and no one bats an eyelash at it. I know I'm at the age where the eyesight starts to weaken, but given the Dx I would think they would at least recommend an eye exam.
