It's like the old joke - you know the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think he's a doctor.

    I love it !

I saw that show too- it was astounding!

I think I read that doctors get one day of nutrition in med school - scary!

Mini1.....I used to be a registered dietitian here in Canada ......I studied at university for four years and then had to do a dietetic internship for a year. Drs take a six month course as part of their medical training !!!!! In the hospital where I worked we dietitians used to laugh at the lack of knowledge and ignorance the doctors displayed. Always ask for a referal to see a dietitian if you have questions, and now you need to see a dietitian

who specializes in oncology.....they know their stuff.....never ask a Dr.!!!!!!

Dr. La Puma went back to school for nutrition and then went to culinary school while he was still pacticing medicine. He said it doesn't matter how good a food is for you if people don't want to eat it. I think all doctors should have to have intensive nutritional training. But look around the hospital at the doctors and nurses there. The majority of them have unhealthy eating habits and a lot still smoke. I don't want a doctor that can't even take care of him/herself telling me what I should eat or how I should treat my body. I don't expect a perfect person, but I at least want one that believes in doing the things they are asking me to do.

I always say if  you want to get the best doctor ask a nurse. The same goes for a dietician! I learned more from the woman at the health food store than from my doctor. It's beginning to shift, but with big pharma making it so financially beneficial for tem to prescribe medicine for everything, most choose to write a script over advocating a healthier lifestyle. And why change when you can take a pill and still eat all the crap you want? It's as much on the patient as it is the doctor. I drive 35 miles to see mine. She's worth the drive. She helped me more in one visit than my previous doctor did in 2 years. If I hadn't gotten sick of being sick, I would still be walking around with h. pylori and would probably have a bleeding ulcer. Everything was labeled stress and I was given a script for stomach meds. I walked around sick for 2 years when a course of antibiotics would have cured me in 10 days! Frown

Hey there, K. I'm here and I hear ya. You know me too well. I did go shopping - just to take my mind off the waiting. I bought a new purse, a Dooney & Bourke. I have always wanted one but have restrained myself because they are expensive. $$ And, guess what?!?DH was with me and told me to go ahead, do it. When I offered to pay for it with my own saved money, he told me, "No way, it's on me!" How cool is that!! Hugs!

Wear it well and fill it with lots of bucks and keep it off the table cause if you do that as my mamma used to say it will be empty...off the bed too....hang it on a doorknob and wait for the bucks to fall in there...lol.

    enjoy...you deserve it sista...huggggggs K

Congrats, Valjean.  Enjoy the purse. It means so much that your DH wanted you to have it.

My bracelet has been used during at least 3 surgeries, it's nice that it can be re-used.  I just hang it on my bulletin board so I know where it is.  I am glad you girls were able to get your bracelets, too!

Val, I really think you need some designer shoes to go with that bag....Cool
How nice to have DH support the spending!
So, congratulations on the mammo result.  I am soooo happy to hear the good news.  Two things I love in life....birthdays and clear mammos!  Big hugs for you!!
Of course we'll do a virtual hug for anyone who can't join us...we are determined to meet this time...and sooner is better than later....
I went to a specialist gyn today and (amazing how little they know about BC) anyway, I found out that I am not in as bad shape as I thought....I had an infection and it is responding and I feel better.  I just wish I could find time to sleep duriing the week!
Annette, I also remember your mother's beautiful photo that you shared....and how you rescued her and gave her life back for a time.  I am glad you got to celebrate.  Hope you are doing OK.
    nite all,
    Joan

Joan, yay! So glad to hear you're not in bad shape. Wink Of course you're not! Wonderful to hear the infection is getting better. I see my ob-gyn in Jan for my yearly pap. I agree they don't know anything (or much) about BC. I love my gyn but he only seems to know one body part & what it should

    TMI ALERT !!

look like & what passes through it. Sealed

Maybe I shouldn't have said that.......it's just what I thought reading your comment.

And, no, I have not had one margarita too many! Tongue Out

Meece, thank you for the link to the lymphedema free bracelet site. I just ordered mine. I want to do all I can to protect myself. Interestingly enough the resident the day of surgery wanted to put the IV in my left hand for breast surgery to my left breast!

Has anyone heard about lymphedema risk from flying? Not that I am planning any travels soon, but we love to travel and I got thinking about this late last night. Thanks for the help!
