Yes Meece, that is exactly what I was talking about...the Alberto VO5! Wow...the memories it brings back. Does anyone remember when we wore pedal-pushers, now known as capris?

Hey anybody remember "Tussy" underarm deodarant. It was in a smal white jar with a red top.
0 -
I do vaguely remember Tussy. Most likely it was in my mom's medicaine chest.
0 -
And the deodorant for men: Right Guard.
I remember Old Spice aftershave. Back then it didn't have a twist off cap, but some kind of top that was like a little plug.
0 -
I remember the little gray plug int the top of the offwhite milk glass bottle.
0 -
Yep! Isn't that funny to remember a tiny detail?

How about this??? Getting chocolate milk delivered to your home in glass bottles and boxes of doughnuts...yum yum
0 -
Yep, the milk man and the "Helms" man, bringing milk and donuts and bread.

Thinking back about 45 years now, Mum used to buy vegetables from a man who brought them round the streets in a truck. He had a regular day and time to come to your area and if you missed him it was a long trip out to the market garden to get your veges. The milk was delivered daily until about 5 years ago in city areas and the bread... don't remember where the bread came from. Supermarkets have certainly changed the way we shop.

and there was walmart
ICKY KAKA POOPOO

So Walmart is not on the top of your list of good places to shop then phew?
Sounds a bit like our Warehouse chain

I go to Wally-world for my laundry detergent and softener, and my papertowels and TP, and toiletries. They do have the best prices in town.

Phew...I've only worn pants to synagogue once in my life and that was in the mid 70's...I was in college and had a horrible broken leg...I had just gotten my walking cast (after having a cast to my thigh for 4 months) and using a cane...I think it was Rosh Hashanna...I was at my parents who went to a reform temple.....I can't imagine a rabbi wearing shorts and sandles to synagogue for RH or YK or any other day for that matter!!!! I go to an orthodox synagogue so my rabbi wears a dark suit...most of the men wear suits or sports coats, but some men do "dress" casual...the women all wear skirts/dresses and hair coverings!!! I gave up wearing pants 3 1/2 years ago, so only wear skirts!!!!
My gf and I were talking today about some of the things on the memories thread and she remembers sanitary pads with belts and safety pins before the little plastic holder...I had forgotten all about this....Oh how far we come far in 40+ years+....My youngest DD is in 7th grade and it dawned on me the other day that I was in 7th grade 42 years ago...don't know why it just hit me as I know how old I was when she was born!!!
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year and 2011

I loved remembering the locket dolls and the fun flowers - hadn't thought of those or wouldn't have remembered them - can smell them though....
Anyone notice there are no longer lime life saver candies - now they have sour apple or watermelon - I loved the lime flavor.
I remember wanting Gaucho pants with boots - not particularily attractive
Did anyone's Mother give them Paragaric (spelling???) for stomach aches but was banned cause it had some addictive drug in it. Tasted like licorice.
I also had a doll called Francy - is that right? Barbie's little sister???
My Mom gave me Steiff stuffed animals and still have some that I saved for my kids.
Loved Fisher Price's wooden circus with the rolling cars and the giraffe's head stuck out and the seal had a ball and trick cones. Because it was Fisher Price it had FP on it which was also my sister's initials so she would always claim all Fisher Price toys were hers caust it had her initials.
My sister used to dry her hair in one of those hair dryers with the machine and tube that connected to the bonnet. Even though it took a long time I remember sitting on the bed watching TV while she dried her hair.
My mom always used ink cartridge pens. She also had a white pontiac convertable with red interior which we thought was just to die for.
I remember getting my first mini dress which was "psychodelic" - really mean lots of ugly colors all swirlled together. I saved it for a long time but must have gotten finally thrown out.
My Dad always wore a suit and hat and was very handsome and we always had to wear dresses when seeing my Great Uncle. My Dad always gave us corsages to wear on Valentine's Day.
Anyone remember Ideal cookies - they were crispy peanut butter in the middle and covered in really rich thick chocolate. I still dream about those cookies, would probably cost a fortune now. Also the jello that separated into three layers.
We had school uniforms and had to always wear white or navy knee socks and saddle shoes.
I have a picture when I was ten and we are all dressed up and I have on a red dress with white knee socks and navy blue pappagallo shoes. What a fashion statement!

Oh, one more thing - we had our milk delivered in the glass bottles and had the Fuller Brush Man but also had this wonderful man come and bring this huge box that folded out into trays with homemade cakes his wife made! Still remember the coconut cake with lemon filling even though normally I would always go for chocolate!

re: the Jello in three layers was JELLO 123. The middle layer tasted best.
Stanzie, I liked your Dad's tradition of the V-Day corsage.

Francie had a one piece swimsuit with a pink bottom and striped to and a belt with a sharp brass belt buckle.
My mother had the bonnet dryer and when we were getting dolled up for pictures or something special she'd use it on us. I remember the elastis was too big for my head and the bonnet would slip down over my eyes. I also remember the smell of the bonnet.
I remember that Jello, and hadn't thought of it since the last time I had it, probably.
Oh, those knee socks, great when they were new, no so great when the elestic wore out on one, or both.

Stanzie-paragoric has opium in it! That's why it worked so well for stomaches, diarrhea, and "nervous disorders"! I had one of those bonnet/tube/machine hair dryers once. It certainly did take forever to work, and was so noisy!

But it gave you a good excuse to just sit and read.

M-m-m-mmmm, Paregoric!

Elimar! I'm sure you don't have a tummy ache yet!

I just popped on here to tell you with the middle aged memories that today is the day the Twilight Zone Marathon is going on.....it always amazes me when they show an episode that I don't recall because I was so sure I had seen every one of them. It's on the SciFi station.
0 -
I wish I had know, but Dh has had the big tv monopolized with football.

I caught a lot of the Twilight Zone marathon--I was surprised how many episodes I had seen before!

I watched one TZ this morning that I don't think I ever saw before. I think the first time around when I watched them, they were already reruns. Not sure. I get TZ, One Step Beyond, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Outer Limits all mixed up. I know they kind of had different themes, but they all scarred me for life in The Sixties!
