Thanks CJRT!    I really appreciate you sharing the story about the B & A photos in your docs office, and explaining more about why you personally rejected a fat transfer.  Very helpful!

    You're a love!

kayb- in what program did you view the video?  Thanks so much for your interpretation..  I feel more chemo-brained than usual.  Probably due to my anxiety over this and some other issues.  ((( Hugs )))

Thanks CJRT for your input.  My PS did mention about having 3 different sized implants to try during surgery. She said they will sit me upright, etc to make sure they look right.  Interesting thought isn't it to be sat up when under general anesthesia.  :)  Sounds like the TE's protrude much more so than final implants so I expect the final ones will look different.  Do you think your implants look roughtly the same size as the TE's?

     Whippet mom,

I am 5'7", 138 lbs, my chest size is 31 3/4", implant will be a Mentor but not sure if short, mod, or full ht.  Does this help?

One more question, my TE's seem to protrude out to my sides and don't come in very close in the center of my chest.  Wondering if the final implants will look the same.  I mentioned to the PS who said they will move more freely and it is a bra that actually gives cleavage.  Any thoughts on that?

Hiker - My Mentor high profile implants are 500cc's, and my expanders were filled to 475. They do look roughly the same size.  My PS did exactly what you described. The TE's did protrude more so my "shelf" or slope was more severe with the expanders. My expanders made me look like I had 2 footballs on my chest, whereas the rounder shape of the implants on my narrow frame make me have more cleavage than I did with the TE's. Not as much cleavage as I got with a push-up/cleavage-enhancing bra prior to my BMX, but I have yet to try any underwire or cleavage-enhancing bras post-TE surgery.

My PS is a fan of alloderm so I got that with my implants. The TE should not drop and fluff they should just sit there and grow like a coconut.

Yes Vik I think it must have something to do with the nerves trying to regenerate because I had itching after surg and still some 3 wks now after my implant surg but benadryl cream helped and hydrocort did not so not doing an ad just want something to work.

Yes CJRT, I got gel and my PS is a big fan of massages for life! I dont feel like I have much projection with the implants yet but I got a cheap Danskin B cup and it fits perfectly, oddly so that my boobs are still squarish but developing a dome shape of the implant. Left still way high. Hope to fluff to a C,keeping fingers crossed.

For those of you who are wondering about the relationship between TEs, implants, and cup size:

I had in 620cc TEs for nine months (Inamed 133MV-16s), then exchanged to 700 cc high profile smooth saline implants a month ago.

(I'm 5'5", recently lost 56 pounds (down to 148) and went from a 40.5" bust to 37.5 with TEs. With implants, that increased to 38" Surprised. My chest measurement (band size) went from 39" to 33")

I've been in a sports bra ever since exchange because my PS wanted everything to heal inside (had LOTS of pocket work done).

I'd put all my 38 and 40DD bras in a box right before my BMX, knowing that I'd never wear them again. But last month, I dragged a few out, and sure enough, it was like wearing  saggy bags on each boob.

However, this morning was my one-month followup with the PS, and I decided to go through the "Donate" box one more time.

I found one! It's a racer-back, front-closure bra, in a size 36DD!!! And it fits perfectly!!! Unfortunately, I think it's discontinued, but thought I would post this. After everything I've been through since last year, I'm really not much different in bra size.

    (And no, this isn't a picture of me...Wink )

    Mindy & Layla --

Thanks for your replies about itchiness. The internal sensation of itching has disappeared (at least for now). Mindy, I have a lot of soreness in the same area you mentioned--front of the armpit area. I think the adhesive from the original bandages caused a lot of irritation as I have some redness along edges of where the bandages were under armpit as well. Now tending to a suture that is keeping drain in place on right side (I think I overdid on Sat. and caused some shifting with tube) which is poking into my skin, causing a small, but painful, irritation. Hope they will be removed on Thurs. (Yay!) BTW, I did not come home in any kind of bra or anything else, for that matter. Just gauze bandages. I only have one incision on each breast that runs along the outside of each breast. That's it.

vik- I have the same type of incision- now just a faint line and basically healed. (until October 18th)  But yes, each have one straight incision horizontally across.  They sent me home in a horribly binding bra with little Velcro strips to hold the 2 drains on each side.  I'm surprised you got to come home braless, but obviously it's done that way, too.  The adhesive from bandages and any rubbing could easily cause irritation and pain under your arms.  I can remember how strangely painful it felt milking the tubes for measuring.  Thankfully those drains (little grenades) are very temporary. Here's to hoping you'll come home much lighter of tubing Thursday.   I will say, it didn't hurt at all to have the drains removed.   Are you still needing pain meds?

It's easy to overdo.. you really have to watch yourself.  While still in the hospital I reached up to the side table to retrieve a very heavy bag. Ouch.  Big mistake.  I did have completely mobility of my arms, thankfully.  The pain was never in my breasts.. just under my arms.

I was only filled 25cc's each side at surgery, so I came home flat chested.  That was liberating in a strange way.  Sorry if I missed it.. how much were your TEs filled?

I think you'll find though the process of gradual fills,  the TEs aren't even that bad.  You get used to the turtle shells that don't budge.  No dropping and fluffing.. that's for sure.  You really don't have much feeling in them.   Fillls are more of a sensation of tightness and can sometimes create muscle spasms.  IF you have any discomfort I'm sure your medical team will help you there.

Keep us posted on your progress.. it gets so much better once those pesky drains are out. :)

Blessings, congrats on the 56 lb,you are a more disciplined person that I am,I know what to do but getting my behind out to exercise and making myself eat the carrots and bananas instead of playing with the vending machine is soooo difficult. I have been holding steady tho since I stopped drinkg wine every night, knew I had to stop it due to the new research connecting possible cancer and alchohol. Trying to lean vegan but put some meat in the veg/bean soup which now has thickened to a stew. My hobbies are making myself crazy and...(a friend told me well I think you need a new hobby)lol. My fiance tried to help by parkg my car about a 20 min walk away from work. Love the thought, hate the exercise. Should I kick him or kiss him? You ladies be the judge!

Mindy: DO NOT PANIC! Absolutely, you can postpone your exchange surgery! If you are feeling the least bit hesitant and want to take a little more time to feel reassured about the volume and style of implant, then a few weeks or a month or two even will not be a problem. So many of us though had this very same anxiety about the exchange surgery, so don't let this be a stressor in your life. Postpone if you feel you need more time.....

Yes, kayb is correct. I was trying to convey that the Style 45 might indeed be the most appropriate style for your frame and to address your concerns.

Hikergal: Well, if the TEs are malpositioned laterally, the PS will need to perform lateral capsulorrhaphys and bring the implants more medially. However, much of this is also predetermined by your chest wall characteristics.

Who is your PS in Phoenix/Scottsdale?

Thanks Deborah.  I may do JUST THAT & postpone until I know what I'm doing is as right as possible.  All I know right now is you're an angel. xxx

Sandlake: Allergan Style 20 - 500 ccs - would look nice on your frame. This is a high profile smooth round silicone implant. Another style which would be nice is Style 15 - a midrange profile style - 371 ccs. Talk to your PS about these two styles.

    Hello Deborah,

I had my alloderm revision surgery on Mondsay. I'm feeling pretty miserable but I know it will pass. Do implants with alloderm sling still do that "drop and fluff" thing? I LOVED the shade of my implants after my TE exchange but they didn't hold. Now, with the sling, they look a bit......(can't believe I'm going to say this) high and artificially round and smaller BUT I will try not to complain if this is as good as it gets.

Deborah, I appreciate your advice so much!  I've been living with my TE's for 2 1/2 weeks now, hope they calm down soon.  Thank you so much for your help.

    Hi Whippetmom & Ladies,

I just saw on the news that  "gummy bear" implants have been approved in the US.   Just wondering if this is an option for us vs. augmentation.  Haven't come up with much information on the internet and was wondering if I should ask my PS his opinion.

Anyone have an experience with them?

Greenmonkey:  Yes, they can still "drop and fluff"....Give it at least two weeks....and step away from the mirror....Wink

Sandlake: Just take your time with fills.  You should not be in pain or discomfort with fills.

Shabby: I think you are referring to the Sientra implant which was FDA approved about six months ago.  They are approved for breast reconstruction.  Ask your PS for additional information about them.

So, I'm wondering why some PSs wait a long period of time after a last fill before the exchange. Other than letting the skin and muscle have sufficient time to stretch, what other reason would there be?

  • Lilah
    Lilah Member Posts: 2,631

Vik11 -- I believe that IS the reason.

    Deborah,

Exactly the advice I needed to hear... "step away from the mirror"

okay, that being said, my latest post has a link to what I look like one day out and I still look the same (day 5). there is this weird pinched thing going on on my right. I have no idea what it is. Swelling? an internal stitch? My 475 high profile implants look completely different this time around - with the alloderm.

They looked more natural before the alloderm but they didn't hold so its best if I forget about them but what do you think about them now? Any questions, comments I should be asking at my appointment on Monday.

I lean on you a lot and I can't thank you enough.

GreenMonkey - you're looking good to me.  You will still have some drop and fluff with the Alloderm.

Try to be patient.  I know it's been a long road.

    Best Wishes

Finally able to see them GreenMonkey.  You look fine at this point.  I would like to see how you look in two weeks - especially once you have the drain removed.
