Actually....Vi....the company, Lifecell, mfr of Strattice and Alloderm, have an injectable version of both allograft materials now and I think that you should talk with your PS about how this might be applicable or useful in your case. I don't know enough about it, and frankly, I have been too busy to do my usual investigation of all of this stuff coming down the pike...so if anyone else has information, please share here. The link is below....

Maddy.....some of us experienced changes even at the year mark after the exchange. As for pain and discomfort....some of this might be relative to post-mastectomy pain - not necessarily related to reconstruction. If you are experiencing pain and discomfort which impacts your activities of daily living, you should talk to your doctor and get a referral to a physical therapist - one who works with lymphadema patients, as they know the proper methods of massage and therapy for breast cancer patients.

I know that one potential problem with gummies is that they can shift in the pocket. I guess all different kinds can do that, but it is enough of a problem with gummies that it is mentioned in the manufactures' literature. What I haven't been able to find is a discussion of how often this really happens.

Today my sister had me watch a video with her called "Classic Stretch" by Miranda Esmonde-White, a former ballerina from Montreal. Miranda sustained an injury which ended her ballet career and so she developed a new life and career. She also was diagnosed with breast cancer and had significant disability on the unilateral upper extremity and had to work on regaining her strength. So watch this video, click on the link and then go to PBS to find her exercise "STRETCHING" videos. Tivo/tape those videos. We ALL can do the stretching exercises she performs in the video segments. Do this every day...25 minutes a day.....

thank you for this info. I recently had my expanders placed and boy the tears!! My post diagnosis emotions came rolling in again. I attributed this to the PS manipulating my chest wall and giving me back those lost feelings. He gave me the options of cup sizes after measurement and I picked a 'C'. Wow I think a support group is in order for this.

I watched the rehab video and I think this should be required for every BS to give their patients! I did yoga after my BMX and ALND but, like Miranda mentioned in her story, was afraid that I was going to hurt myself. Unfortunately, it does not seem that my local PBS station broadcasts Miranda's series so I am going to look into buying the DVD. Thanks, Deborah, for letting us know about this great resource.

I love that video! A friend gave it to me after my MX. I still do the stretches with Miranda some mornings.

Just had my date for preventive BMX set-Jan 8th- now the wait. Whippetmom, I sent you a pm and hope you can help me gain info before next appt. with plastic surgeon, would like to have some idea which way to head with implant size, style, etc. thanks for your help. One more questions-is there any stretches or exercise that would help stretch the muscles prior to surgery? Char

Watch the stretching video I mentioned above and do these exercises every day. Also, do push ups. I answered your private message.

Is there a HUGE difference between 475 and 500 Ultra high profile??? I am 400 now and getting them removed in 3 months and expanders in...These 400's are WAY to small......

    Alibeths,

Do you mean your expanders are filled to 400 and you are waiting for your implants? Or do you have to have expanders put in again? I'm confused.

Ali - I don't remember the conversion but try to look up a conversion tool for cc to ounces. If you do that you can get a sense of liquid measure. 25cc may be something like 1/6 of a cup - then you can fill a cup measure to 1/6 and see what sort of volume it would be. Make sense? (I'm in a meeting right now and can sneak in a post here and there but can't look up the conversion for you)

Ali - Couldn't stand it so I did look it up: 25cc is about .85 ounces, so less than 1 fluid ounce. Probably woouldn't make a huge difference in final size but if you want to ensure larger rather than smaller i'd go for the extra.

sweetandspecial: I was LOL about your comment "...couldn't stand it so I did look it up"...I am glad to have other OCD people on this thread!

Dulcigirl: Ali had a BMX with direct to 400 cc implants and they are too small, so her PS needs to insert TEs now to get her where she wants to be. She asked him to use TEs if he found he could only use a very small implant, but he did not heed her request and went ahead with the 400s, hence her need for ANOTHER surgery. Grrrrr...

Whippetmom - when I was in the fill process I was obsessed with cc to ounces conversion trying to get some idea of physical size estimation! Now I remember I've got about 25 ounces or just over 3 cups on each side :)

I can be a little OCD at times.....I've always described it as 'my need for order'.

What amazes me is the little bottle of saline they take out, then the enormous syringe they fill with 50cc. Im at 350/450, overfilled by 50cc each side, and I cannot imagine what 800 or 600 must be like. Im small tho, 5'2, 125, and want to stay small chested, so Im done with fills...

Here's an unscientific and personal observation for those wondering how to equate TE cc's to the size and look of the implant. Others may have a different experience.

My TE side has 740 cc's and looks huge compared to my 2+ month old nicely healed and settled 800 cc saline implant. Those numbers don't seem to mean much. The TE isn't quite as wide but projects much more than the implant and looks two cup sizes bigger. I wear very loose tops because it is SO obvious.

LOL. Six weeks ago I was comparing the "big" implant side to the flat as a board, empty TE side. I wore loose tops then too, but for the opposite reason. This has been an astonishing thing to watch...one day I had 2 boobs there, then 2 not there, then 2 implants there, then 1 taken out so only 1 boob there, and finally watching in awe each week as a new fat boob grew from nothing to something in only 6 weeks. Next month I go back for surgery #3 to exchange both the TE and the existing implant for a new set. They will be smaller than the first implants: Allergan 410's this time.

A girl could get a nosebleed from all the sudden changes in this bc journey! Smile

sandra - what a journey you've had. Frustrating, I'm sure, but you sure have a great attitude about it at this point :) Can't wait to hear how your next exchange goes. My750cc TEs also looked really huge to me and very shelfy and obviously fake. The 750cc implants are a much more relaxed fit and are just right. No one would know unless they saw me naked that I have reconstructed breasts, I really look pretty much like I did before BMX when fully clothed.

Hi ladies next month finally i can say that next month i will have the exchange surgery i am so excited i cant take these TE any longer lol i have 600 cc te fill and they do look a bit larger than my old breast size but i am sure the implant will be just the right size, i am so glad i insisted to achieve my old size but i have to admit its been hard to carry these TE for 9 months :(

Enerva - Congratulations! You need to PM mykidsmom with your exchange date so she can add you to the list in the header of the Exchange City thread. It's cool to know who's having their exchange when so we can all be thinking of you as you anticipate surgery and encouraging you through the exchange and beyond. Even if you don't have an actual date she can add you as 'Exchange sister in waiting'. I think I was an exchange sister in waiting for 6 months before I actually got my exchange date!

    Ain't this site wonderful????

    "Grrrrrrr!" Is right, Whippetmom!!

Ali, I am SOOOO sorry you're having to even think about another surgery!!!

Sweetandspecial, want to see "obsession?" This was my attempt at visualizing whether my revision to smaller would be worth it. (It was!) that is rice in trouser socks. The conversion for that is online, too. I found it in an augmentation forum.
