I finished reading A Visit From the Goon Squad last night.  It won the Pulitizer Prize, but I honestly cannot recommend it.  I found it disjointed and difficult to follow.

I just stumbled on this thread - thanks!

I thoroughly enjoy COZY MYSTERIES and find many interesting related sites by simply doing a GOOGLE search for the same. I get my books from the city library and have no hesitation about browsing and borrowing older books when I get caught up in a series.

Ironically, as I write this, I am reading not a cozy mystery but Red Mist by Patricia Cornwell, whom I haven't read for years.  An advertisement excerpt appeared on one of the main screens (Yahoo?) and though our library system has quite a few copies, I was #66 on the waiting list. Hefty size but I must lug it at least some days to read on the way to work as the waiting list precludes renewal.

i actually bought a new book from Amazon.  Prodded my interest in diverse genetic combinations on the silk road mostly, a place where many cultures met and shared genes   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4NDNMk7Dxw&feature=related

((I absolutely adore this little film and love the guy at the end at minute 6.24 the best - yes it is worth watching this whole film.  I knew a couple of sisters.  Their dad was a full blooded Hawaiin (no Chinese or Japanese mixed in.. a huge fellow.. strapping and happy) and their mom was the quintessential Irish, English pale blond with  long super curly gorgeous hair like in a long curly rennaissance wig. The 2 daughters had the thickest, darkest red, coppery hair with huge curl ratios, tumbling down their back.. Their eyes were a striking hazel green and their lashes and brows were dark.  I could spot one in an instant if I saw her today... . Very gorgeous, striking girls..))

    i bought this book http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0195338103/ref=sr_1_2?p=random&ie=UTF8&qid=1328447755#reader_0195338103

by snail mail.  I like silks and fabrics too.

KC seems blessed with a fair amount of interracial offspring.  I love it when gorgeous people just pop up.

Thanks, MinusTwo.  I love that kind of site! Being able to choose searches by categories other than authors or titles is a super convenient treat.

I am in awe at people who put so much effort into making sites structured like www.cozy-mystery.com to share with the rest of us. The joy filled and loving work is still hard work and bears the special burden of keeping up to date.

Bye, All: I am returning to take a cozy Zzzz before going to 9-5 kind of work.

    THE DESCENDANTS

    By Kaui Hart Hemmings.

Before the movie, there was the book and it was very good. I found it in my library's free book bookcase last year- where I have often found very interesting books that I might never have known existed. I was attracted to it because it was about modern Hawaii, a place I have never been and the book jacket summary of the plot - a man getting to know his wife and children in the context of a terrible accident. anyway, I encourage you to read the book.

    Hi Julie,

While many people liked the movie, I thought it was really slow and boring, with very little character development and lots of cliched characters.

     Lovemyfamilysomuch,

well try the book! I haven't seen the movie. I would be interested in your opinion of the book AFTER having seen the movie. I think I already passed it on otherwise I would send my copy to you.

Have any of you read " Women Who Run With Wolves"? We are supposed to read it for our next book club but this time they assigned each person a chapter...Haven't gotten it yet but thought I'd see if any of you know about it before I decide to buy or try the library.

On The Decendents - I thought the movie was good not great.. didn't even know it was a book! Speaking of books to movies - read "Extremely Loud and Incrediabley Close" a while ago but just saw the movie. I thought they did a really good job with the movie even leaving out the silent man's story (not to spoil anything for anyone). I took my 15 year old son and we both were quite moved by the movie having been very touched by the book. I also loved how the book for formatted. Most of the reviews thought it was just too sentimental - I just I didn't see that. Wondering what you all thought.

I watched "extremely close" and liked it. Didn't read the book though. Thought it was moving...the movie was good...dragged a little in parts. Not sure if I would read the book. I may give the descendents book a try...was recommended to me also.

I did read The Decendents but have not seen the movie.  Although I did like the book, it's not one of those 'can't put it down' kind of a read.  But it was still worth my time and I enjoyed it.

I've been reading March by Geraldine Brooks while I wait for my inter library loan books to come in.  I am about half way through and.....struggling through it.  I really want to finish it as the librarian said it was one of her favorites....but boy oh boy...don't know if I'll make it....

I've never read or seen the movie Decendents...

Laurie: I'm surprised you didn't like March. We seem to have pretty similar tastes and I really liked it. My boss decribes it as "her perfect book." I picked up Double Bind on your recommendation. I'll let you know what I think after I've read it. I'm currently on the third book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I agree with everyone who says the first is the best. I have The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks on deck next.

mcsushi- I am surprised too, they name drop all these famous writers and I get excited but then I seem to lose interest and put the book down.  Maybe I am not in the right frame of mind?

I can't wait to see how you like Double Bind.  I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks- I liked it.  It has some slow moments and can be quite medical at times, but (un)fortunately having the knowledge of BC makes you more aware of what they are talking about.

Laurie - I had a hard time with March, too. I put it down and never went back to it. It was recommended to me by a couple of my good reader friends but for some reason, it didn't keep my attention. I just finished The Dovekeepers and I loved it. I really loved the characters and their stories and how they came together at Masada. I just passed it on to my sister. We're off on vacation in a few days and The Paris Wife is next on my list. Gina

Just finished the new JA Jance "Left for Dead" and Michael Conolley's "The Drop".  Next up is Wouk's "Marjorie Morningstar" from 1955.  Somehow I missed that one when I was reading the WWII books.

Ruth I could not get through that book- I tried and tried for three weeks.  I usually read a book a week- finally gave up 3/4 's through it.  Just wasn't worth the struggle any longer, but I really wanted to like it!

I am almost done March, the end seems better than the beginning and middle, ha!  I didn't let myself go pick up my inter library loan books today so I would have to finish it.  Dumb- but what the hey.

Gee...Ruth! That is soooo surprising! I liked the chapters devoted to the fair better than the ones devoted to the serial killer. But I enjoyed the book so much... that I dropped everything to take time off and visit Chicago!
