Kathyrnn - I love roundabouts so much more than all-way stops, where idiot drivers here frequently jump out in front of the person whose turn it is to proceed. The roundabouts here are generally on 30-40 mph streets with a 20 or 25 mph speed limit, which lets you have a better feel for your speed vs those already in the circle. What I hate are those unfamiliar with them who jam on their brakes instead of merging steadily as traffic permits (C'mon, people! The whole point is to keep traffic moving!). Most only have 2 lanes around, but some people still think they can turn right from the inner lane in front of the folks in the outer lane, even if both lanes are permitted to continue on around the circle. It does take a little practice, but it's not nearly as hard as some people make it out to be, although my mother is completely freaked out by them even as a passenger, and dies a thousand deaths all the way around, just sure that we're all going to die. Poor Mom.

melissa--you asked about hair falling out...generally that happens somewhere around 2 weeks after your first tx.  For me it happened on day 19...it was hairpocolypse for sure.  Everyone is different but you should be safe at only a week and a half but you never know and maybe better safe than sorry.

    Minxie,

I had the Halaven also - for "clean up" as I did not have a pcr with neoadjuvant chemo.  The study nurses seem very excited about this drug as a "clean up" drug. I was fortunate in that I did not experience much difficulty with it in terms of side effects - although I know that isn't the case for everyone by any means but we are all so individual that there seems to be no way to know for each of us until we personally experience it.

melissa - in case you missed it, I am reposting my comments on hair loss. I was on TC not AC but just wanted to forewarn you about the possible pain, too.

Hair loss - One of the most difficult SEs for chemo patients. Usually occurs 2 - 3 weeks after 1st chemo tx. Although I had prepared for this by buying a wig, hats and scarves, no-one is really ready for it. When mine started to come out at exactly 2 weeks post-tx, my DH said "Time to get it buzzed" and I said "No way, let's see how long it hangs around". On a Friday, I was in a store parking lot and it was very windy and the wind blew my hair against the way it normally lies - I started crying, it hurt so much. No one had ever mentioned the roots hurting when it fell out. I had it buzzed the next morning! Apparently it starts to re-grow 6 - 8 weeks after the last tx - something to look forward to.

    Hello Gals,

Been away for awhile, so I hope all of you are doing well! This thread moves sooo fast!

    - Roundabouts scare the crud out of me!!

    - In SW FL we tire if tourists, but most businesses would not survive without them.

-Loved London. Was there last August and did the tour of London. I llearned that Big Ben is not the clock, it's the workings behind the clock. We have an office in Portsmouth and Banbury. Love the proper cider andncouldn't get enough fish & chips!

    - Love Harley's party pics! My girl is 100# and my bou120#. Love all animals!!

-Glad to see you back Annie! Knew you couldn't stay away, and glad you didn't.

    - Thanks to all for the mouth sore advise. All gone finally!

-Congrat's to those who finished treatment and/or had great results last week!

My scalp just starting being 'tender' today.... And I am on day 14. I thought about just not washing it for 20 weeks, but decided my hubby was really important to have around :-). I know this is going to be a tough week facing the hair loss, but it's temporary right? I made the silly mistake of buying wigs on line.... 5 wigs and $650 later I finally found 2 that I like. Donating the other Three. One makes me look like a Russian guard, and the Two make me look like a mean German MAN! I am 6' tall, so short choppy dark black does not work on me! Anyway.... Tomorrow is A/C treatment #2 and not as scary as the first one, but still nervous a bit. I pray that I handle this one as well as the first.

    And last but not least...

Had a wonderful Anniversary weekend with my hubby. 20 years together, 16 married years with a wonderful man. Fishing and boating by day, dinner at night with a glass of wine. Just a really nice weekend! It felt 'normal'...

Wishing you all a great week!

I love the roundabouts..gets my adrenaline flowing...Hilton Head has a couple of traffic circles that can certainly freak you out during heavy traffic times.

In Ohio..we have to watch for Amish buggies...blah...I realize that they have a right to be there but my gosh..on a highway...speed limit 65..yikes...it scares me. ...and sometimes they have their little children standing on the highway selling produce..while cars and semis are whizzing by...it just freaks me out.

Can understand that. 65 mph, kids, buggies..... Real scary! Stupid question, but are the buggies out in the winter as well?

The scariest roundabout I've ever experienced is the 12 roads coming into the "circle of death" (our name) around the Arc De Triomphe!  And oh, the incoming traffic has the right of way!  It was so crazy our daughter made a video of every taxi ride through there, after the first adventure.

Yes...they are Jazzy...I feel so badly for the horses and the people in the buggy...alot of the Amish hire drivers to take them shopping and to appointments but some do not..

Lovelyface...weird you talking about the eyelash thing...mine are the same as yours...great looking for awhile then sparse the next...I had it explained on here since they all fell out at one time they are on the same cycle whereas they used to be on a different cycle so you didn't lose them all once...right now my eyelashes are growing like crazy and my eye lids itch...in a month or two I will start losing them and they will look sparse again...very weird...

Melissa..glad you are feeling good..but you had better think about picking up that wig...usually takes about 14 days for the hair to go...so you have some time.  I started wearing mine once it started looking a little sparse....now I wish I just would have shaved it off in the first place....you may want to think about that...when your hair starts to go your head starts to hurt......very weird feeling...

I still think that hair loss is the weirdest se of them all....just bloody freaky.

Titan I agree, no matter that i knew I was going to lose my hair, even had wigs and coverings lined up, it was still hard to handle.  I am ok with it now, just ready to have it back ....NOW!  LOL  Wigs are so hot in 100 degree weather!

Titan - I have an appointment to have my head shaved and wig fitted properly next Monday. Does the hair fall out gradually or fast? I wonder if I should move my appointment up. Not for the wig so much as shaving my head. I cut my hair short about 3 weeks ago in preparation cause I don't want to deal with clumps on my pillow or shock... Today is day 14 and tomorrow is the second A/C. Should I pull forward my appointment?

A petrol station owner in Dublin was trying to increase his sales.
So, he put up a sign that read, 'Free Sex with Fill-Up.'

Soon Paddy pulled in, filled his tank and asked for his free sex.
The owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10.

If he guessed correctly, he would get his free sex.

Paddy guessed 8, and the proprietor said, 'You were close.
The number was 7. Sorry. No sex this time.'

A week later, Paddy, along with his friend Mick, pulled in for another
Fill-up. Again he asked for his free sex.

The proprietor again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number.
Paddy guessed 2 this time. The proprietor said, 'Sorry, it was 3.
You were close, but no free sex this time.'

As they were driving away, Mick said to Paddy,
'I think that game is rigged and he doesn't really give away free sex.'

Paddy replied, 'No it ain't, Mick. It's not rigged at all at all.
My wife won twice last week.'

    Here's one for you Bernie!!

TWO IRISH WOMEN IN A BAR

Two women were sitting next to each other in a bar.

After a while, one looks at the other and says, 'I can't

help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland .....'

The other woman responds proudly, 'Yes, I sure am!'

The first one says, 'So am I!  And whereabouts in Ireland are ya from?'

The other woman answers, 'I'm from Dublin , I am.'

The first one responds, 'So, am I!!   And what street did you live on
    in Dublin ?'

The other woman says, 'A lovely little area.  It was in the west
end.  I lived on Warbury Street in the old central part of town.'

The first one says, 'Faith, and it's a small world.  So did I!  So
did I!  And what school did ya go to?'

The other woman answers, 'Well now, I went to Holy Heart of Mary, of course..'

The first one gets  really excited and says, 'And so did I!

Tell me what year did you graduate?

The other woman, "Well lets see now, I graduated in 1964"

The first woman answers, "the Good Lord must be smiling down upon us!

I can hardly believe our good luck.  Can you believe it, I graduated from

the Holy Heart of Mary in 1964 meself"

About this time Michael walks into the bar, sits down and orders a beer.

Brian the Bartender, walks over to Michael shaking his head, and mutters,

"Tis going to be a long night tonight"

Michael says, "why do you say that Brian"

Brian answers "The Murphy Twins are pissed again".

((((Jazzyj)))) I know how you are feeling right now because it was a very hard thing for me too to loose my hair. Just before my hair fell, my husband and my son (who was 4 at the time) shaved my hair. The rest came out all at once in the shower. I remember it like it was yesterday. I cried a good cry in the shower that day.But I got used to my "new look" fast enough. Your scalp will be a little tender in the beggining but it will get better. I wore scarves at first when my scalp was tender and waited a bit for the wig. REMEMBER ***IT WILL GET BETTER!!***

Just trying to catch up after a long weekend away.  I'm hoping everyone was a SE free week and that all good things come this week.

It was hard for me to lose my hair but I just kept saying it was all temporary.  I LOVED my wig and I knew that once I was done it would all grow back - and it has grown back very quickly.  I realized that I didn't need my hair (or boobs) to live and infact needed to get rid of them in order TO live.  It's hard though when you read magazines and it's ALL about the boobs and hair.  I just thought of my bald head as my "warrior hair".  Hang in there xo

Best thing this weekend:  well there were lots!  We spent a great weekend with various friends and family.  On Canada day my DH took my youngest home to bed and I stayed at the BBQ with my oldest son (3.5 years old) and we watched the fireworks.  His face was priceless.  He was exhausted but hung in there.  When we were driving home he was half asleep and said, "Mommy will we be on the road forever?".  He just wanted to be home in his bed.  I'm blessed every day to be able to share moments with my family and create memories.  One day at a time.  xoxo

Traffic Circles... oh what fun.   They installed the first one where I live now a couple of years ago... and I remember watching people driving up and not having the faintest idea of who had right of way, or what to do.   The sheer terror on their faces.    Coming from England I'm used to 'em.

    Great jokes Bernie & Cocker.

Good luck Jazzy - its ok to be weepy (well I think it is anyway).   Thinking of you for your 2nd treatment.

Happy, positive thoughts coming your way Fighter.

To everyone else hope you are having wonderful days with very minimal, bearable SEs.

DorisMarie---I ordered straight red hair for my regrowth.  Orders somehow got mixed up, and I was delivered gray again!  It has come in thinner and softer than before and very hard to manage.  I've had a couple of trims, but it still looks like I'm a chemo patient.  (Don't worry younger gals, I'm old and thinning hair is part of the old-age package.)

For me, getting buzzed was a huge emotional ordeal.  It was the outward and so very obvious symbol of my disease.  No scarf, hat, cap, could cover it up.  Far worse than my mastectomy!  Yes, hair comes back.  Not always in the color ordered.

To all of you who are in treatment, hugs and love and support to cope with the SEs.  Focus on the goal:  NED.

Jazzy- I'm glad the the mouth sores are better, but please don't recommend Ron's Rum to any newbies, it will just confuse the h*ll outta of them :-). Did you order your wigs from Paula Young. If you did they are returnable. Happy Anniversary. As to the Buzz, it is a shock to all, but just own it and think of it like your "warrior hair" like Fighter said. (((HUG)))

I know it's wrong Tazzy, but I do love those "sheer terror" looks, too!

I just took poor Mom to have two teeth pulled, so I'll be spending the holiday at home.

Titan - now that is plain scarey. Up here only motorized vehicles allowed on major highways and there is a minimum speed limit. Buggies would not be allowed up here, only on regular roads.

Luv - I definitely want to see that video.

Cocker & Bernie - thanks for the laughs.

Doris - I had rapid heartbeat from the anemia, but be sure to mention it to your doc.

Nope Jan, you win. Standing behind 50 people with one item each would put me over the edge. Funny how the written word is different, it never crossed my mind that you would be 70. Your persona here is much younger.

Riley, Thank God my Mom is almost blind, she doesn't notice things like that anymore.

When it comes to the hair loss, I guess I'm like Inmate, I decided to own it and make it joyful. Feel bad for my poor chemo nurse that day. My chemo was 3 hours late, she couldn't get an order she needed (onc's office is 100 feet away). Told her to get the order or I would because I has 25 friends coming to a Shave The Head Pool Party at 6:00 and I had cooking to do!!!!

We had a blast. I had made silly things for everyone to wear. We played get to know you games because some of my friends hadn't met each other. We ate like pigs! When it was time to shave my head, each one of my friends took a swipe. I didn't say anything, but that stat 1 in 8 was in my mind, realizing that statistically 2 people in the group could be hit with the disease. All I can tell you is that it was a wonderful night of Sisterhood, and i'm glad I did
It that way. Plus I learned
hat swimming with no hair is really fun!

Mamabr - Welcome! I am sorry you are in the position of making such a big decision on your own. I hope you get some good advice here.

Kathy - Stiff hips - Oh Yeah! I forget... after I've been driving for 20 minutes, I spring out of the car and almost fall on my face, as the hips don't do that anymore. I look like the evolution of man from the car to the market.

Jazzy - The good news is, your scalp will feel less sensitive soon. It was a hard thing for me - both times. HUGS!

Here on the NC coast we say "Come on vacation, leave on probation" We have VERY serious speeding and DUI laws.

Had my blood work done today ... $177.00! Hope to have the results on Friday, so I can move forward in my head.

    Happy 4th!

Just got back from the eye doctor.  At least BC hasn't messed with my eyes yet.  New supply of contacts are on order and my glasses are still good.

And ouch, your poor mom.  That sounds dreadful.  Hope she's not in too much pain!

Lovelyface, "Clean up" is what the trial nurses termed the role for the Halaven after less than a complete response to the neoadjuvant chemo - the hope is that it "cleans up" any microcells that could possibly be floating around in the body following treatment.  One of the trial nurses likened Halaven to a "detergent" not due to its physical properties but because of this potential "clean up" action. From what I've read it seems to my uneducated brain that it is similar to a taxane drug in the way it kills the cells, but it has a different type of action than the taxane.  The hope is that it is more effective against taxane resistant cancer. I think there will be so much more knowledge about all these drugs in 10-15 more years but hopefully by then there will have long been a cure that is much less harsh on the body- and prevention!

DorisMarise, Babs37! Borntosurvive, Fighter 34', Tazzy, Jan69, Katherynn, OBXX - thanks for the hugs, tips and encouragement. I stopped and got my head buzzed on the way to treatment, so I am sitting here in the recliner with a Beanie on. And you know, it's not the end of the world..... another challenge down.

Borntosurvive - Nothing like a good family and friend filled BBQ. 10 minutes is like forever to kids, right?!

DorisMarie and Jan69 - Cinnamon is on my wish list along with a 28" waste and a butt lift

Fighter34 - Sooooooo sorry to hear about the power! Miserable heat. Hopefully you didn't have damage in your area.

Tazzy - I was one of those confused people when near Boston a few years ago! I almost got us killed!

Katherynn - I understand your point, but I don't think I recommended Rons Rum as much as I tried to make a joke of the name. Would never recommend an Rx drug, but will pay better attention to my wording. Sorry :-)

    Hugs to all!

Kathy---Oh thank you!  I'm going to print and cut the compliment about my age!  I can't judge how others see me, but I'm so surprised by my age, too.  I've dusted off the exercise bike this week, and go at it about 15 minutes (2+miles) and feel pretty smug when I get off.  My daughter and granddaughter are coming up Saturday to make peach jam.  I can hardly wait.

One more road story.  Why do they need to repair the road on 4th July week?  Whole miles (or so it seems) of motorhomes, trailers, boats.  Not a nice welcome to our neck of the woods, and makes the locals really pissy. We'll be staying home this week.  Don't want to be tempted to get the gun out.

Jazzy---Good luck with your waistline dream.  I'd be happy with any waistline.  Muffin top, pear shape, droopy 1 boob, that's what I've got and never dreamed of owning.

Christina19---Have you had radiation?  That's what I thought was considered the clean-up.

And to those of you who have been buzzed lately, love your attitude!  Now the wait-and-see what the new hair will look like.  My best to all.  Jan
