    Happy 4th of July ladies.

I HATED losing my hair but have to admit I loved the amount of time it took to get ready in the morning.  There was no hair left to either shave off or wash, condition, dry, curl, spray.....

Just booked my last flights to florida to get hubby and the dogs moved up.  I'm trying to schedule the my completion of Fifty Shades around the weekend he moves up.  Wink  So funny that is this the first book I've read (twilight fan) that he hasn't made fun of...

Hope all is well with everyone.

Annie - Best wishes on the coffee auction.

NavyMom - I hope you aren't feeling too tired today - here... I'm sending you good energy thoughts! Wow, now I'm tired, guess I can skip my dusting chores ;) I hope you and your husband enjoy the show.

Born to - your husbands comment, cracked me up. I'll never see a chemo room, the same way again.

Heather - how exciting it must be, to anticipate your DH and four legged reunion. You've worked so hard on making this all happen. Well done you!

OBXK - love NC's motto for tourist! Ouch on the blood work price. Da*n well better come back with the results you want at that price! Give the person with the 70 comment a good kick. Funniest one I got from an aqaintenance this week was the question, is that your real hair now. I promptly answered, what, you really think I would have spent good money on a wig this ugly??? Luckily, people know my sense of humor well.

Luv - that video was great! Good news on the eye exam, and even better in light of your diabetes.

Christina - thanks for the Halavan info.

Jan - peach jam -yum! I see more hours

on the bike in your future, lol. They're doing repairs on the highway behind my Mom's this weekend, but at least they are only doing the

during the middle of the night.

Bernie & and Cocker - thank you for your lovely 4th posts.

Tazzy, I hope you're feeling better and better each day away from PFC.

Doris - congrats on getting thru the buzz and being able laugh at it as "going topless"

Jazzy - glad you got through your Buzz too. As traumatizing as it is, it's also a step toward taking control. Thanks for explaining "Ron's Rum" to Cocker. I'm also easily amused, but that really was a great chuckle! Nothing to personal to talk about on here. I wasn't surprised when I lost my "lady fur" but how it's grown back is really ticking me off. I have a huge bald spot front and center, but the sides are merrily growing a Fu Manchu that is trying to reach my knees. (bikini wax on the list). I swear if that bald spot stays, I'm gonna get smiley face (in pink) tattooed there.

Titan - I had to wear my wigs for almost 10 mo. I'm sure my neighbors must have done a double take when they saw a bunch of wigs hanging on the clothes line drying.

    NavyMom - sweet memories!

Borntosurvive- I'm at Chap 3 in book 3 *runs off to check panty draw for adequate supplies*

McCrimmon - good timing on the book, lol

Cocker - I'm sorry you'll be away from Old Fella, but thrilled to hear there's something like the Lodge available to you. No housework, they'll feed and shuttle you, and you can rest as you need. Rash on your hands any better?

Kathy---Lady Fur and tatoos!!!!!!!  I had to laugh out loud, so loud my husband wanted to know what was so funny.  I tried to tell him but couldn't because I was laughing too hard.  Just might need to check my drawer for adequate supplies.  At my age, just about anything makes me dribble.

Annie---How on earth do you type with your hands hurting?  So sorry you have to go thru this.  Thanks for the July 4th post.  It's a day most Americans have special memories, such a watching a hometown parade, picnics in the park, and fireworks.  Now my daughters are giving their children those same memories.

Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue.   And thanks for our freedom to all veterans and those currently serving.

Jan, Thanks for the thoughts of appreciation for our military.   These men and women give up their own freedom (and sometimes their lives) so that we may keep ours.    Land of the free BECAUSE of the brave!  Happy Fourth to all.

Totally enjoying all the good humor regarding hair loss.  One of my gal pals was shocked when she learned that I had lost ALL of my hair.   ....The carpet did indeed match the drapes.  hehehe.

Is anyone taking metformin?  I am in a study and I'm pretty sure I have the acutal drug and not the placebo.  I had some tummy issues when I first started but they settled down.  Now that I am taking 2 pills a day, my stomach is acting up again and will not settle down.  Cramping and diarrhea.  Feeling super tired and drained.  Any thoughts?  I don't want to quit the study but don't want to keep on like this either.

A friend of mine's Great Aunt had an appointment with the gynecologist (this is a true story!). She stopped by her daughter's house to "freshen up". She sprayed herself with some FDS (feminine deodorant spray) and went to her appt. Her doctor asked why she got so "gussied" up for her appt. She told her daughter later that she used her FDS. The daughter said i don't have any FDS- show me what you used. She got out the can from under the bathroom sink- it was orange, glitter hairspay leftover from Halloween!!

born- I've been on the Metformin trial for a little over 1 year now and i still have stomach/diarrhea issues. Since the day I started taking 2 pills a day, my stomach problems got worst too. At my 6 month trial appointment, I talked about it with my trial nurse and she said if I didn't go to 3 diarrhea a day we would continue on that dosage (850mg 2X day). I have to say that for the last 6 months, it got a little bit better but it's not like the "before Metformin". Talk to your trial nurse and see what she says about it. Good luck.

Born:  I am on Metformin (non-study)  Started it in April and had total opposite GI problems.  Horrible constipation with bloating and abdominal pain. And that was with 425mg once a day! Through the process of elimination (no pun intended) I found out that the calcium supplement I was taking was not agreeing with the Metformin.  Something I did not know is that there is more than one type of calcium...  I was taking calcium carbonate....Now I take calcium citrate and TADA!  No more GI issues.  I am now taking 850mg in the am and 425mg in the pm.  I am going very slowly at increasing my dose until I reach 850mg twice a day.

My oncologist told me to make sure my GP checkes my blood sugar levels and to put me on Metformin if they are high. I met with her last week and she said my levels were normal so I won't be getting Metformin anytime soon.

    Born & Babs,

I just started taking Metformin a few weeks ago and am working up slowly to 850 mg 2x/day.   thanks for telling me what to watch for.   Right now, I am just taking one pill split in half, and taking one-half in morning and one-half at night.   In about a week, I'll up it to one-half 3x/day for a few weeks before going to 2 per day.   If I start getting problems, I can always cut back, unlike you two because I am not in a trial.  I am just taking it to try to prevent recurrence.   I am not diabetic.  My MO prescribed it for me.

I have acid reflux and take a Nexium in the morning and Zantac at night so wondering if that will help keep stomach problems away.   Please keep us posted on your progress with it.

    This really made me laugh!

We were dressed and ready to go out for a Dinner & Theatre
    evening.

We turned on a 'night light', turned the answering machine on, covered our
budgie and put the cat in the back garden.

We phoned the local Taxi company and requested a taxi.
The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house.

As we walked out the door, the cat we had put out in the yard scooted back
into the house.  We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to get at the budgie.

My wife walked on out to the taxi, while I went back inside to get the cat.

The cat ran upstairs, with me in hot pursuit.

Waiting in the cab, my wife didn't want the driver to know that the house
will be empty for the night.

So, she explained to the taxi driver that I would be out soon. "He's
just going upstairs to say Goodbye to my mother."

A few minutes later, I got into the cab. "Sorry I took so long,"
I said, as we drove away. "That stupid bitch was hiding under the bed. I had to
poke her arse with a coat hanger to get her to come out!
She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her
in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her
fat arse downstairs and threw her out into the back garden!

She'd better not shit in the vegetable garden again!"

The silence in the Taxi was deafening.

Annie, Annie, Annie, where oh where do you get your stories?  Love, love, love them.  This one I'm going to have to share, especially with my cat-loving friends.  You always brighten my day.  I so hope your hands let up and you can get back to doing what you want and need to do.

Wishing everyone a "safe and sane" evening of beautiful fireworks.  I'm so worried about fire, as many of you are too.  Even a causually tossed cigarette can cause an inferno here in the mountains of Western USA.

Babs and NavyMom: Thanks for the info.  It's good to know that I'm not the only one with tummy issues on the metformin.  Well I am assuming I have the metformin given my SE's.  I am scheduled to call my trial nurse this Friday so I will see what she says.  It seems like it's worse with anything super sugary, alcohol, coffee or a lot of milk products.  So trying to stay away from all that.  I am not a big drinker but would have the odd glass of wine with a nice meal and that just sets me right off.  Anything with a higher sugar content seems to set me off.

Here's my funny story of the day......when I was putting my oldest son to bed tonight he said, "Mommy when I am big and strong like Daddy I can drink beer".  I said, "well Daddy doesn't really drink beer".  He said, "I know but I will drink beer but if I drink to much beer, I'll poop my pants".  I laughed out loud.  He's a funny kid!!!

Happy 4th.  I hope you're enjoying time with friends and family.  And I hope you can have some fireworks tonight.  Our Canada Day fireworks were awesome.

Happy 4th, everyone!  I have to go back and read all the ones I have missed the last couple days.  So many wonderful posts, wonderful conversations!  For now, I will reply to those who addressed me.

Titan - I am sorry the eyelash thing is happening to you too, but am glad to hear that I am not alone in this.  This is definitely a chemo after-effect.  I really love it when all the lashes grow up nice and long.  Right now, they are uneven and are falling off.

Annie - you keep that one lash, girl, no need to pull it out.  You know they will all grow back gorgeous pretty soon.  I had no eyeslashes during chemo, looked like an alien, even went and bought some to paste on, but couldn't do it, not so smart in those sort of things.

Christina - thanks for explaining the clean up thing.  It sounds great!  I am so thankful they have these drugs out there.  I am sure there will be better ones in 10 - 15 years.

I will go read the rest of your posts now!

Come on everyone rise and shine. Show a leg. Time to get up.

I'm off to Whitianga (about four hours drive) today with the old fellar to get his new coffee machine. So I'm playing hookey from work for a change to give me old fingers a rest.

Borntosurv - your son is just gorgeous. If you get fed up with him pass him my way. I'll have him with pleasure.

Lovelyface - yep I will hang on to that eyelash I just might not get any more.  I can't wait until my hair comes back and I see what color it is.

Heather - did you mange to get your insurance sorted out with your boss.  I hope you don't have to go back to Florida now that you have your new job and have settled in.

Well have a great day ladies.  I'm going to enjoy my time off for once. Annie

Onvacation- WOO HOO!!! Ring that bell with pride!!

Heather- I never asked if she changed doctor's, but if I did that I would not only change doctors, but never go to a doctor in the same building again- word gets around!!

Annie- be safe! I kept my lashes all through chemo, then they fell out 2 weeks later. I was down to 2 on one side and 1 on the other. I did look like an alien. They came back quickly, but have never been as long or full as they were. :(

Jan- We bought a few fireworks for the kids, but had the hose and a fire extinguisher handy! We have not had rain in over 3 weeks now and 100+ temps. Thankfully we had no fires! Hope you had a great 4th!

OBXK - don't be egging me on! My poor NP can't take any more shocks after she did my gyn after one of my New Year's pranks. Dyed the lady fur neon pink! Took her 5 min before she could stop laughing. Nobody expects that from the old broad.

Borntosurvive - I had problems in the beginning but it didn't seem to have anything to do with what I ate. Would have explosive diarrhea about an hour after I ate. It finally seems to have settled down.

Tifj- let me know when Auntie needs another checkup, I like to keep my NP well amused. I'l do a rain dance for you!

Catwhispurrer - never thought about it, I'm on strong reflux medication, so maybe that's why I had minimal problems with the Metformin.

    Onvacation - YAY! *waves Pom-Poms*

Cocker - enjoy your day with old fella and DON'T send him in to get the cat!
