Calling all triple negative breast cancer patients in the UK

hi everyone
Thanks for your comforting words.
So originally when I had my lumpectomy in May. The BC placed a biozorb to mark where radiation would take place. About three weeks later I developed a seroma, and after three weeks it didn't get better, and the whole incision opened up. Apparently I was allergic to the biozorb. Patients that have an allergy to this are 2%. Apparently I am one of the lucky ones . So since June 9th I've been dealing with this open wound. They placed a wound vac for a month to help healing and then had me on every other day dressing changes. The wound doc us different then the BC but they work out of the same office. I haven't seen the BC surgeon since June only the wound doc every week. I will see the BC surgeon Next Tuesday and insist on a game plan and some sort of scan for the rib pain.
Thanks everyone for listening to me.

Hello Angie,
I think you have put up with enough with the open wound. Please let us know how you get on with your BC surgeon next Tuesday.
I hope you get the scan to see why you are having rib pain.
You do not need all this worry.
Thinking of you.

Hello Marias,
Thank you for your posts. I looked at the video but I do not believe in juicing. I think it makes everything too concentrated.
If that were me I would be concentrating on eating a rainbow/Mediterranean diet and getting a good mixture of everything. If you want some root ginger in your diet, just cut up some and add it to your cooking. I like to put ginger in with carrots when I am cooking them. My own daily nutrition is made up of fruit and vegetables, oily fish, some cold water prawns, nuts, seeds, pulses and beans. I have plenty of extra virgin olive oil and avocados. These provide healthy oils. I do not eat meat, poultry, dairy foods and stay clear of sugar and junk food. I do not have any alcohol, fruit juices, smoothies, etc.
I do not believe in miracle cures for cancer. All you can do is to eat a healthy diet, keep mentally and physically active and stay away from negative stress.
This is how I cope with daily living, but everyone has their own ideas.
Wishing you all the best.

Hi, Sylvia
I haven't got to read all of Chris Woollams' post yet either, why does life seem so busy lately?
Best Marigold Hotel, our butler on the cruise said the movie was realistic, and he was from India. Interesting that people wanting to retire would move so far away from their families and friends, it did seem that they could live much more cheaply in India than in UK. I wouldn't think Florida would be much cheaper, but it's always warm weather there. When my husband passed away, some time passed and I had a thought of relocating to where the weather was more stable than here, but slowly have come to realize that family is here, not all but all come here at times. Also friends, and community connections. I think these things are important, I think I took them for granted before.
How exciting, I had the 10,000th post!Congratulations on starting one of the longest-lasting threads on this discussion board!
I will talk to you again soon, love,
Mary

I wonder about your wound, it seems a long time to be open. When my husband had knee surgery in 2013, his incision opened about a week later. They talked about wound vac etc. and then they went in and just did another surgery a couple of days later and closed it again. Fortunately this one worked, although he had to be on strong IV antibiotics for 2 months since he did have a slight amount of bacteria that got into the wound. It doesn't sound like you have any infection, why can't they operate and close the wound? I apologize if this is apples and oranges, it just seems odd to leave a wound open so long.
Wishing you the best when you see your BC surgeon and have your rib scan!
Love, Mary

Hi, Marias
I saw "Far from the Madding Crowd" on TV, I have a satellite with programming from that. I don't know which station it was on. But it was on several times. I am surprised it's not on NetFlix. I hope you get to see it.
I'm glad you get to start radiation, so you can be finished with all this. And I hope your thyroid biopsy comes back with a good result. As for your lipids, getting off the fatty meats and dairy products will help, I eat lots of salads with squeezed lime juice and olive oil and limited meats, and alaskan salmon and wild-caught cod.
Abrazos, Marias! Love,
Mary

Hello Mary,
I have not read Chris Woollams either. Are we both suffering from too much information?
I had my birthday on September 1st and I know yours is fast approaching. I hope you have a happy birthday. I imagine that you are all ready to go on your holiday.
Today in Exmouth it is pouring down with rain. If I can find the time, it is a day for reading.
Love.

Hello everyone,
With summer coming to an end I was just having a look at the thread to see how we are faring and where we are going.
As you know, I started this thread seven years ago on September 12th to provide a forum for UK people. However it has become International, but I am disappointed that we now have no Brits posting and we do not have many going through treatment. I am trying to decide what to do.
I have been very impressed by the sisterhood of the women from the US on this thread. They have given wonderful support to one another and have been there for others outside of the US.
I want to give my best wishes to Mary, Rhonda, Pam, Val, and Debra for the great contribution they make.
I must not forget adagio in Canada, Kath in Australia, Lou in Singapore, Marias in Colombia and 4everStrong in France.
Best wishes to two newcomers, Angie in the US and Galway in Ireland. Please let us know how everything is going and how we who have completed the journey can help.
Of course that goes for Marias as well, who is having quite a few problems as she goes through treatment.
Those who are viewing but not posting, please remember that without posts there is no thread.
Best wishes to all of you wherever you are.

Hello everyone, again.
I have recently received the latest edition of the Cancer Active newsletter from Chris Woollams. I do not know how many of you follow these emails, but I find them interesting and informative.
These are the main headings of the latest email.
1. Saturated fat increases cancer risk; good fats reduce it. You need to click on Lung cancer and saturated fat and Metastases increases the higher your blood fat levels.
2. Do you have a high risk level for colon or rectal cancer?
Click on Why colorectal cancer is becoming an epidemic.
3. New Book: Heal your Gut – Heal your Body.

We know from Chris that the Rainbow Diet is about fat rather than carbohydrate and about which fats and which carbohydrates.
It is a lifestyle diet, where exercise and vitamin D are crucial.

Happy Sunday Everyone,
I'm dedicating my weekend to preparing for my trip to Scotland, working out, and being careful not to run out of energy. I did an hour walk in the humid heat this morning, so I was very happy with that. Now I'm off to research airport security and silicone breast forms - and knitted breast forms probably as well. I'm also trying to make sure that clearing my desk at work this week doesn't produce extra stress. That will be the biggest challenge. I'm still reading here when I can, and thinking of all of you.
Hope you're having a great weekend,
Pam

Happy, happy birthday Sylvia - hope your day was as special as you are!!
Thanks so much for all the effort and time that you put into this thread - you are a tower of strength and support and a wonderful person from whom to bounce ideas about treatments and other things in general. I have sure appreciated the camaraderie in this thread and it is the only one that I read on a consistent basis.
This weekend is our labour day holiday and a time when people get away for a while before school starts back - fortunately, the weather is glorious.

HI, Sylvia and all,

Happy belated birthday Sylvia!

Hello Mary,
Thank you for your birthday greetings.
I have just noticed that Chris Woollams has another email. It looks as though everybody is getting back to normal. I read what he had to say about saturated fat in the first email. It looks as though research has decided that saturated fat is not connected to cardiovascular disease, BUT that saturated fat is definitely a risk factor in cancer. I suppose we have to make up our own minds about all of this.
I am not sure I am convinced that saturated fat is not connected to heart disease. I definitely think that the Western diet has too much emphasis on meat, poultry and dairy products and that vegetables are served as a garnish!
I can see the connection between cancer risk and saturated fat, given that saturated fat is linked to higher levels of hormones like oestrogen, and blood bad fat levels are linked to more metastases. I was interested in the article about lung cancer and saturated fat and that the higher your blood fat levels the greater the increase of metastases.
Yesterday, having read all this, I was thinking about where this puts coconut oil, which is saturated fat and is definitely the flavour of the month recently. I shall be interested to read what Chris has to say.
I hope you have a good holiday. So many of you are going away at this time. Of course, it is Labour Day in the US and Canada and that signals a return to work, school, college etc. In France it is la Rentree, schools are going back, holidays are over and it is also the time for big literary awards for new novels.
Take care.
Love.

Hello Pam,
Thank you for your post. When exactly are you off to Scotland? So many of you are going on holiday that it is hard to remember them all. Mary is just setting off for New Mexico, and Lou has gone to Cambodia. I am sure Val and Rhonda were going off somewhere as well.
You certainly deserve a gold star for all the effort you put in to help you keep fit and well.
Try to send photographs from Scotland. Are you touring there or are you going to a specific place?
Keep in touch.
Fond thoughts.

Hello adagio,
Thank you for your birthday greetings.
Thank you so much for your kind words about the thread. I was glad to know that you find it useful to bounce ideas around. There is so much information floating around that I think it is a good idea to try to sort things out for ourselves. I have always tried to make the thread both meaningful and enjoyable. I have certainly got to know a lot of interesting people on the thread. I think that newcomers might find it useful to start reading the thread at page 1 and reading through it like a good book. There is certainly a huge amount of information on this thread, contributed by many people and from excellent books.
I do remember Labour Day in Canada and people having a bit of relaxation before getting back to work and settling down for autumn and winter.
The schools are going back this week and colleges and universities will not be far off.
Are you still reading Chris Woollams emails? I do find them interesting and they certainly give you food for thought.
Take care.
Love.

Maryna - have a wonderful break in New Mexico, and Happy Birthday to you. Look after yourself.

Maryna8, I don't have time to read every topic of interest on the forum; however, I happened to run across your note from a couple of months ago saying that Taxol was only effective for 3% of patients. Do you have a source to share for that statistic? Thanks!
Lyn
0 -
VLH - I find it quite disturbing that Taxol is allegedly only effective for 3% of patients. Taxol for me was a nightmare and if I had realized then that it is not very effective, I would definitely have reconsidered accepting it as a treatment.
Sylvia - I do read Chris Woollams articles and am now thoroughly confused about saturated fats - currently I use 3 types of fat - coconut oil, olive oil and butter. Coconut oil for sauteing foods at a higher heat level, butter for my mushrooms (yum) and olive oil for my salads. I do not consider that I use any of them excessively, bu like you say we each have to make up our own mind about these things. But viewpoints from the experts are so conflicting!!

Marias, I am so sorry to hear about your biopsy. I don't know much about thyroid treatments or diagnoses, but I hope this is highly treatable, and will be a successful plan for you.
Thinking of you, Pam

Marias - such bad news for you about your thyroid - life is just not fair. Warm thoughts and prayers coming your way. Hoping that you will get some kind of treatment soon. So very sorry.
