Salty eating out food?

Omaz - I had Boston Chicken the night before with turkey, gravy, red pototoes and apples. Sounds like a sweet and salty meal to me. Got to stay away from there. Stay well

Desny - That'll do it!!0

Down a pound; which is a miracle because I have been in the Holiday Eating Mode. If I can just hold steady until next week is over I will be happy.

My First Post here:
I was a healthy good weight when I started all this. Very active but the surgery (bmx) slowed that down alot. I get chemo every wednesday and have been putting on 2 pounds every week. So yesterday was number 6 and I stayed stable from the previous week. Hooray. Now, how to reverse the trend? Eat healthier maybe? less salt, less sugar. help....
by the way, I go to the gym 3-4x per week and always on the morning of my chemo. It feels great!

Welcome Q. Good for you for staying active. That is the key, I think. I, myself, didn't even try to eat healthy during chemo, but I did watch portion size.

Quaasti Perhaps the steroids are doing it ?

Quiche...................stayed the same this week............................now that wouldn't be because someone sent me some candy, and even though it was only 1 point............................"MOI" decided to eat them all in one sitting.................................but damn they were worth it................thanks again Quiche.................big candy hug for you..............0

Oops! ha! Ducky that wasn't suppose to happen . . . but glad it was worth it :-) If it's any consolation, a Dairy Queen Blizzard got me this week. Waiting to see what the scale will have to say about that!
Welcome Quaatsi! Congrats on staying stable last week and don't beat yourself up too much. So many things factor into chemo weight gain. It's great that you're staying so active (going to the gym 3-4 days per wk during chemo is awesome!). Wish I had more to offer, but I'm feeling a little brain dead right now. Just wanted to say welcome and hang in there. You'll get a lot of great tips from the ladies on this board.

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome. This is definitely a positive group. I love that we all are able to focus on doing what we can do and keeping a pro-active attitude.
Dairy Queen-- Oh how I wish that was my only vice!! Quiche-- I hope you enjoyed it!!
I have thinking about my eating and wondering if anyone else has this issue. I figure it works this way-- I am fatigued but not so tired and sick that I go to bed and sleep but enough so that I cannot do all the things I used to do that I love so much-- ride horses, muck stalls (yes!!!) dance, go outside..... So I sit there with nothing really to do (reading is great but it triggers eating for me) that I have energy for except TV (which frankly, I dislike) and then, I eat.... and eat.... (so to answer JFV-- unlikely the steroids LOL). Any suggestions for those times like afternoon on that I have no energy for anything but eating???

Even if you are really fatigued, put on your tennis shoes and walk around and around the house...set a timer so you have to keep moving for at least 15 minutes. Maybe put some fun music on to give you a boost. That is what I did, and I remember that I felt so exhausted that I was just shaking, but I did it anyway.

Watched Dr. Oz. last week............he is good, and so honest it hurts......................he spoke about exercise and losing weight..............he mentioned walking 10,000 steps a day, and confirmed.............................If your not going to the gym on the treadmill, or very seriously walking other then your normal day....................your butt is not doing 10,000, and never will................I thought...........thanks Doc for the brutal honesty.
There is no way this bad left knee, and arthritic back is going to do 10,000 steps a day, so I guess I'll just have to do the best I can, and eat a hell of a lot less.....................they lowered me to 26 points at WW...............new program for 2010

What about water exercises and/or a stationery bike and/or a rowing machine?
edited to add that you do have to eat something, for goodness sakes!

Your right I do have to eat, and actually. 26 points is not bad if you put thought into your meals, and plan ahead................but me, I have always been a kind of "fly by the seat of your pants person", so you know it doesn't always work for me....................so far I lost 10lbs, but like I said.......needing to lose a "small toddler" the 10ljbs is actually a joke...............also I am 76, on meds, and the Femara doesn't help, I'm sure........I guess being on that shit, I should be glad I didn't "gain a small toddler"...........we will see.

Hello Ladies, Mind if I join in? I am 1/2 way through chemo and have gained 20 pounds since diognosis in Oct (15 since starting chemo) I am in dire need of some support.

Thanks Q, I have gone back on my fat doctors diet guidelines as of today, minus the meds of course. Basically it's this: carbs grams minus fiber divide by 5 which is tsp of sugar. Do not go over 10-15 tsp of sugar each day. It is also a good start to cut back on the sugar in my diet period. I have the hardest time with exercise the first week after chemo I try to get in 10 minute walks around the house, then move to 15 minutes on the treadmill twice a day... 30 minutes each day once a day. This round was harder to follow this becasue of the fatigue..ugg I am hoping the next one will not be so hard.

Lory welcome. It sounds like you have a fabulous plan! YOur exercise level is awesome for being on chemo. To the ladies who are on chemo believe it or not you will return to your old energy level. Then you can exercise all you want.

Welcome Lory and Quaatsi. Quaatsi, about those times you are too tired to do anything but eat during chemo, well, I went ahead and ate. Most of the time I had diarrhea so bad, it didn't seem to make a difference. However, when trying to lose and feeling like "I want to eat something" when I know I really am not hungry, I ask myself "Are you really that hungry? Would you eat a plate of liver and onions and a nice big bowl of plain brussel sprouts?" That pretty clears up the question for me now, after chemo. However, I did eat frequently during chemo, small stuff like a scoop of ice cream or piece of watermelon, and I think that helped keep the nausea down.
Well, now I am on this salt-restricted diet along with diuretics and holy moly, does that help take the weight off. I am down 6 pounds this week and it is not even Wednesday yet. I don't even think of calories, just look at salt content and that takes out 75% of my favorite food choices. So not only does the water pill take it off, but what I have a choice to eat is not the kind of stuff I would go overboard on. I might want to eat half a pizza but I am certainly not going to eat half a bag of apples.
Hope you all are having a good week.Edited Wednesday - Down 7 pounds for the week and back down to at least pre-chemo weight. Ankles actually look like they did 4 months ago. Only 90 more pounds to go for me!

Up 1.1 pounds since last week. I've been really really good about exercise, but I'm just doing too much Christmas eating. And my birthday is Saturday, so there'll be even more celebration!
Kim - congrats on getting back to the pre-chemo weight. I've lost 17 of my 22 chemo pounds this year, so I'm almost there. Lory - good for you for trying to keep moving through chemo. The effects were pretty cumulative for me so by the end it was all I could do to drag myself out for a 10 minute walk, but I tried to at least do that if I could.

OH funny-- Liver and Onions-- that would put a stop to any eating!!! LOL
I had chemo yesterday and my weight was stable-- same as last week. HOORAY! I can feel the difference in me in that I am not craving stuff. Doc told me steroids worn off and I must agree. Even though I have my much loved italian christmas cookies freshly baked all over the house, I am not gorging on them!!!
I found out I will be getting 18 more chemo treatments so if I can simply lose 3/4 pound a week over this time, then I will be back to my normal weight by the time I am done with this phase of chemo! I think that is do-able.
Congratulations Mary and Happy birthday.
And Kimberly1961-- that much water??? Are you on steroids with your chemo? (dex?). I was but not for the last few infusions. I had chemo yesterday and I am quite bloated this morning. But drinking water should help with that.
Good luck everyone!

Ok, ladies..........................the WW person who weighed me in today said "ok, I got your weight, you can get off the scale now.......................then she said "wow your down "4".....................she was so frigging shocked, and could not have been more if she woke up this morning with; her face sewn to her carpet............................I said "yowza, yowza, and thank you Jesus ................................................when I got to my seat, and looked at the card they give you with your weight on it........................it was a friggin "4 ounces".............................did you hear me.................................."4 ounces".............................I wonder what she would have done, had it "been" 4 lbs....................................I felt like getting out of the seat, and "bitch slapping" her........................................4 friggin ounces......................ok, I'm gonna go add some Vodka to my 2nd cup of coffee..............................this is worth a huge celebration.................4 ounces.........................and don't one of you dare say "well at least you didn't gain", or I'm on the next plane to wherever you live....................................hahahahahahaha

Natsfan - Is your birthday the 24th? Mine too!!!0
-
Ohh Ducky.. you made me nearly spew my coffee through my nose!! Thanks for the chuckle.. That is the reason I don't do WW.. LOL

Aw Ducky, you are 76 and going to bitch slap the Weight Watcher tracker? Take along someone with a camera for pictures because I want to see it.
Quaatsi, yeah, holding water like a camel in the desert, only I am pretty sure camels have skinny legs. I had some problems with this before chemo, but I think the chemo really took a toll on kidneys, liver, and heart. So now I have to be reeeaally good. I do bet of the 90 pounds that I need to take off yet, another 15-20 is plain old holding water. It feels so good to get some of that water out of my legs, it makes it easier to deal with the low-salt diet. I want to kiss my GP for giving me thte water pill, like she invented it or something.

Actually ladies..................I should be happy the woman didn't "bitch slap me" for losing only 4 ounces............
See here is the problem...............i'm really not fat.............I'm just too short.............I am the perfet weight for someone 6ft. tall.................not to mention the fact that I hold enough water to float a small barge....................so now that I solved my problem, I will sit and try to figure out how I can help........................Obama solve the economic situation........................ooooooohhhhhhhh, Lord, I think the Christmas season has me a little loopy........................maybe another cup of coffee with somemore Vodka..........................hahahahahahaha
