Gma, I really hope this will take care of the issues you have had so much trouble with. Thinking of you on Friday and in the time leading up to it. I'm happy for you that it is happening so soon!

Gma, that actually sounds like a solution! Kinda hard to face (to say the least!) but I can't wait until that's behind you. Eat well, stay hydrated, rest up--get ready to HEAL!!!
Hugs!

DuckyB, I am so sorry, but glad to hear your own experimentation is having some good results. Wish you were close by and we could talk over a cup of hot cocoa.
Be well,
Binney0 -
Well girls if you don't mind I think it's time to join in for me. I have been very careful with my arm and was doing so well but the last two weeks have been hell! Even though I wear my sleeve the main part of my lymphodema is under my arm and down onto my trunk. I have been doing gentle massage on myself but I now think its time for some professional aid. To that end I have found my nearest therapist that is experienced with lymphodema and have an appointment in the morning.
Is there any particular question I should ask to test her ability and knowledge. Your help would be much appreciated.
Live n hugs. Chrissy0 -
Aw, Chrissy, phooey! But brava to you for taking charge and moving forward with treatment. Here's a list of questions to consider:
Please do let us know how it goes. Cheering for you!
Binney0 -
Thanks Binney. I'll have to add a few questions to see if there are differences between USA and Australia but that is great information.
I'll definitely let you know how I get on.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy I find taping really helps my underarm and back. The LE nurse does a very good job, I can do it but can't get the tape right around my back. I didn't show you but I was all taped up when I was in Aus. She gave me wide tape this time which is great.

Wow! Aly, that would have been very intersting to see. I didn't notice any restriction in your movement at all from it. I never realized.

Gma--I am really hoping you find relief in this new procedure. I am rooting for you.
Aww Ducky--I wish I could be sitting with you too (and Binney) over a cup of hot chocolate. Don't ever give up!
Chrissy--Hi! I remember following some of you comments elsewhere on bc.org and was wondering about you a few weeks ago. Sorry you are joining us here. Glad you are moving forward to get help. Stepup-speakout is the best place to find information to help you as you move forward. Keep us posted!!

Hi Purple! Hi Becky, nice to meet you. Sure will stay in touch and let you know the outcome of the visit. I'm sort of looking forward to finally getting some professional help and to see if it will make a whole lot if difference. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will.

Welcome Chrissyb, there is alot of information in the heads of the ladies here - questions are good :-) Good luck today - I hope you have found a great LE therapist!

Duckyb1 I've missed you!!! you and Grannydukes were the first 2 ladies that came to my rescue... I will remember that always...
Duckyb1 did you get hit by Sandy and the storm now??? Please stay safe!
I cancelled my LE therapy appt yesterday and then thought about it... I should be going to him the day befores surgery.... I called and managed to get the appt. back! Thank you God... I am so nervous about tomorrow - I told him this time he better put a drain in... Not sure he is going to but that seroma should not have happened with the last surgery... Ok pass the chocolate!!! I need some again...
Edit: Just got my isotoner therapeutic gloves - ugly as sin but seem to work so far... we shall see...

Gma - keep us in the loop. I'm considering a prophylactic MX, and my LE therapist and Binney(on here) both recommended seeing the therapist before the surgery.
Chrissyb - I had truncal LE first, and now it's worked down my arm. My LE uses Kinesio tape (on my trunk & arm) it works great, if I wrap over it, it even works better. She also had me get a compression bra for daytime (I got the Amoena brand Patricia style) it's really comfy and works well when I get swelling in my trunk. I hear the Belisse compression bra is great too, but they didn't carry it at the place I went and I wasn't sure that I wanted to order one on line with being "fitted". The miracle stuff that she had me get is by JoviPak - http://www.jovipak.com/ - I got a chest and back piece with a compression bra to wear at night, it worked amazingly on the truncal edema, better than anything; then last year I got a Jovipak sleeve to wear at night (I'm not great at wrapping, it's much easier to slip this on) and my swelling went down fast. They're working great this go round too. They are really expensive, but my insurance covered them. You could probably email them and see if there are any fitters in Australia, and if not, I've heard they are great to work with. HIGHLY recommend their products!
Binney - THANKS!

RE: gloves.
I have found this to be the best pricing:
http://www.activeforever.com/p-10-isotoner-full-finger-therapeutic-gloves.aspx
(PLS post if you find better $!)
and I also looked at IMAK arthritis gloves there/ fingerless as a backup that might be more ' socially acceptable' than the so called ugly Isotoners.
Any comments ?
Thanks0 -
Does isotoner make any other colors than beige?
0 -
I didn't see any other color in my browzing.
I'm nervous.. Gonna be hard to sleep tonight.
Oh Oh good news ! I got a new apnea machine FREE. The company is sending it to the med supply place :-)0 -
Congrats Gma on the sleep apnea machine!!! Free is awesome!

No, just beige. I would love a pair of black.
In fact, soooo many gloves out there are just beige. Dont know why they cant make a brown and black as well. Perhaps we all need to gang up and ask!

Oh, I am seeing the light at the end of your tunnel, GMA.
Hang in!

Well the consult went well I think. The practitioner was good at what she did but unfortunately has not done the kinesio taping so I'm going to have to look further afield for that. I'm going to see her again on Monday as I was very happy with what she did and my pain is far less tonight so yahoo!

Gma--Good luck today. I hope you slept well. Onward and upward!
Chrissy--I did have relief from the kineseo taping and several in my support group have also. There is a book on ways to tape that your therapist may want to get. I never could put it on correctly myself. Glad you have some pain relief. Were you the one who came to US and traveled all around visiting some bc.org sisters? Someone from Australia did so. I was jealous the itinerary did not include my area! I have a good friend in Australia but have not visited her due to the long plane ride. She comes here instead.

Good news Chrissy...glad you got some relief at least.
Hoping your therapist can look into that taping further.0 -
Well - I'm off to the hospital in an hours time... will see you this afternoon - you know how hard it is to work and not drink my water?

I'm sorry I never saw this post regarding medicare- I do know a bit about it and was hoping I could help .
I have however , seen more current posts and it looks like you are getting the CPAP free (YAY!) and I am so hoping things are looking a bit better for you.One day at a time.
0 -
Oh you wouldn't believe it!! Or maybe you would. I just did a large post and its been eaten!!!! Dang nab it!!!!
Becky yes that was me who came to the US last year. I had such a wonderful time seeing your country and meeting so many wonderful women and if I could do it again I most certainly would.
Do you know the name of that book on kinesio taping? I would love to get it for myself and learn to do it as I may only find a practitioner in the city and that is too far to drive everyday or even every few days.
Gma good luck! I hope all goes well for you.0
