hope you girls are all having a good weekend,  i have become a grandmother again,  but to the four legged kind, Lucy the goat has just about half an hour ago had a little girl kid, she is black and white,  Lucy is white and so is Trevor the dad, so where the black got in i dont know, hubby just got there when she was born, there was twins, little white girl, but she is still born, so more  flaming kids lol .  Lucy sister Amy is about to have hers too, she due anyday, she is white too, only way i tell them apart is that  lUCY  has a pink collar and amy has the black collar, othetwise you would  not know who is who. lucy has a little beard, which is a help,  but other than that they very alike. Hubby says the kid is soooo cute. Trevor will geta gold star, smelly old thing.  he pongs, the male goats do. needs a water blaster, i smell him b4 i get to them. shame really that they smell like that.  enjoy ye rest of day.

Midnight congrats on the new goat, sounds very cute. I think I might be related to Lucy the goat since I seem to have grown a beard since chemo. Not nice.

Jenn, in the Sunday Telegraph they had a short article on the 'nocebo effect' you mentioned at lunch. Quite a co-incidence. Ladies,my take on the article was that we can 'think' ourselves into negative side effects from medications etc. Jenn and I were discussing how reading the Tamoxifen side-effects can be good and bad thing. Jenn can no doubt give a better explanation.

I can't remember if I sent congrats for your anniversary Alyson. {Hugs}.

Mel, I hope you can get centrelink sorted, they can be very difficult. I have always had more luck going in personally, they suck over the phone and you always get conflicting advice.

Well done Sue on the bike ride. Fantastic.

I went for a short bushwalk today, it was absolutely gorgeous but I need some stamina to build up. I can't believe how hungry I am all the time, I seem to crave food constantly. Is that down as a Tamox. SE??? or am I just being hopeful (nocebo?).

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. x

lol Kylie. I personally dont believe in nocebo as Im the supreme optimist and every time Ive had a crap s/e it has been a complete shock and Ive had to google to see if in fact it is a s/e. I really didnt do a lot of research heading into BC, just did what I was told from the BS and then the onc. Had no knowledge whatsoever of zometa when they gave it to me last year out of the blue and I swear that stuff tried to kill me plus broke 2 teeth of mine.

I had no expectation of throwing up for days after every single chemo cause all the med prof's said it wouldnt happen thanks to todays wonderful anti nausea drugs Yell. Had no idea I would spend 5 days each treatment of taxotere in complete physical agony and certainly didnt expect to get blood clots. Not to mention Ive never read that anyone else spent the first few days after their first arimidex in worse pain than the taxotere caused. Have I ever said how greatful I am to have made it thru that period of time lmao.

So I vote no to nocebo Laughing.

Oh Midnight kid goats are the cutest! We used to have 100 acres and had some goats, and I used to love it when the kids were born. Used to cuddle them all lol.

Kylie we must have the same exercise thing going (and Sue too) I did almost an hour on the Wii. Feel good now :-)

I can honestly say that I'm having very few se's from the Aromasin - the tiredness seems to be getting less too - yay!!!

Linda I can honestly say I was never sick on Taxotere, didn't have any anti nausea meds either. But it kicked my butt in other ways, and there were times I thought it would kill me, then there were times I sincerely wished someone would just kill me and get it over with lol. If I ever had a recurrence I'd do FEC again if I had to, but I could not do Taxotere - not if my life depended on it. It's the most horrible drug.

Linda, you are an exact example of how to avoid the nocebo effect, which has been researched and proven to exist. By not researching your treatments too deeply ahead of time you avoided knowing the "potential" and the side effects you experienced were definitely not as a result of the nocebo effect but were truly side effects of the actual treatment you were given.

Essentially, it has been proven that giving a patient a list of all the possible side effects of treatment, which most doctors are required to do in our society of "full disclosure", will cause some patients to develop some or all of those side effects where they may not have if they had not been told the list.

Really a bit tired today. We had Melissa's 21st last night. This is my Herceptin weekend (infusion on Friday afternoon) and where I would normally have had a quiet weekend it has been very busy. It was nice but I am feeling quite emotionally shattered today.

I was also disappointed to see from the photos taken at the event that my face remains quite chubby looking and my stomach now seems to protrude further than my breasts despite me eating very healthy and exercising regularly for a few months now.

Up until 4-5yrs ago I was a slim and fit woman, capable of jogging 5kms/day. Slowly since then a few health issues (anaemia, gallbladder failed, ripped a major ligament in my ankle) and my part-time study schedule not allowing for much activity had seen me put on 25-30kgs. I now believe that the BC had something to do with it too... I really would like to see my bones emerging out of the "chub" again...

Hang in there Jenn you will be able to take that weight off again, if I can do it, anyone can. Once you are finished with Herceptin, it will be a lot easier.

Thanks for explaining Jenn. At the time I was just trying to get thru everything as best I could and not kill my poor mum with anxiety. I did get the lists of s/e's I just didnt pay them much attention as I was sure I was gonna breeze thru cause why would I be the one in however many thousand to cop this or that. Man I should have known better haha.  In one way it may have helped that I didnt know about this forum, but on the other hand, I would have loved to have the support and answers we can get here.

I thought you looked lovely in those photos Jenn. What an amazingly good looking family you have too. Those photos are keepers I reckon.

I know Ive said this before and I hope you arent sick of hearing it, BUT you need to give yourself some breaks hun. Your not long finished chemo, you had the lung issues and the aborted rads and are now on herceptin. Your body has had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at it this last year and its tired, bruised and doing its best to recover. Sleep well, eat well and exercise in moderation and within a year I think your body will realise its been thru the worst and your metabolism should recover its equilibrum.

Are you now considered to be post menopausal? I know the whole experience forced menopause on me so I went thru in a year what most women take many years to get through. My menopause was violent but its all in the past now. I do remember feeling and looking bloated specially in the face from the steroids which seemed to take forever to get out of my system, but then my metabolism settled down and reverted to normal. Im sure the same will happen to you, but please dont try to force it and get down on yourself for not meeting your expectations.

I bet in a years time you dont remember feeling this way and that your back to being fit and healthy again. Also think of Kate and how she felt not long ago. It seems we are all bound to sink into a bit of a hole within a few months of finishing chemo and I think its because we expect to start feeling like we did pre BC and it just doesnt happen that fast. Personally I think that the fact we have chemo 3 weeks apart makes us think that 3 weeks after our last treatment we should start recovering rapidly and Im here to say that just doesnt happen. But if the dr's and oncs told us going in that we would feel like crap for ages after our last chemo it would make a lot of people think twice before agreeing to treatment.

Sorry for yet another long post sigh. I just cant seem to ever be succinct no matter how I try.

Editted to add to the second last paragraph. Theres a reason it took me around 6 months to be able to get back to working at my shop for more than an hour here or there hun. My body just couldnt do it and needed the time to recover.

lol Kylie, i have the facial here too and i did not have chemo, hormone inbalance. always had trouble, my mum hates it and says i should get rid of it, but it grows back worse and the creams burn  my skin, so now i just let nature take its course, its not nice, i have not got a beard. just too much facial hair. i dont know whether Tamoxifen makes a difference or not like makes it worse. i cant c it, but other people do and i guess its not nice to see, i may go and get a facial and get riid of it.

Trish, what does that drug you were saying about Toxatere, its obviously a nasty one, does it have  really bad s/effects. bubby kid goat doing good.  dont know when Amy will sprout, but should be quite soon. they are hard case animals Goats. into every thing, good pruners for the garden and getting to high un wanted over growth. lambs, goats, calves, up to 5 years ago i was a city kid lol, now u find my self going past a farm quite envious of the lushes grass they have and not having to feed out hay in winter like we do,  50 acreas and the grass is very limited, too many sheep. they eat it down heaps.  what i am saying really is how our piorities change, ten years ago i would passed  a lamb and thought oh yea, now it is my gosh, that is sooo cute. kool,  anyway have a good night everybody.where ever you are.

Linda as usual you are spot on lol, don't apologise for a long post, you get everything important into it. Jenn I can reiterate in a year you'll look back and it will be a bad memory. Honestly, I'm feeling on top of the world at the moment.

I meant to say earlier, I have the facial hair happening too! It did start before bc, it started with menopause. The "beard" is getting worse though, I've been toying with a hair removal cream, but can't make myself do it. I just keep plucking lol.

Midnight Taxotere is a chemo drug, and yes it is horrible. Some women don't have too many problems with it, but some cannot take it. I only ended up doing 2 out of the 3 treatments - my body couldn't tolerate it.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday evening

Kylie, I agree Centrelink is very hard to contact by phone, when I try to call for my family member.

There was an article on Kerry-Anne Kennerly in the Sunday Mail. She is fortunate not to need chemo. I think it is good to show that bc is treatable. She is still a newbie but did say words to the effect she knows she will have bc for life. She looks great for her age - a Queenslander, from Sandgate I believe.

Hope Kerry_Anne is lurking on BCO to get access to all the info and support the rest of us get. This site really is the best support and for me the only support I have needed. BCO makes one feel so much less alone when going through all that we have and do every day/week/year if you know what I mean Smile

Good morning ladies,  today i am 15 and if you turn it around, you will know my real age. hubby got me a seven week old baby bunny, blue and cream, he is sort of a motled blue all over. very cute, i love bunnies. another kid to feed, four legged one,  i have always wanted a royal blue, but this is the closest he could get, had along ride back in truck. i am trying to find a name for him, am thinking of a name Yogi, if anybody got any ideas, tell me. its a boy.  we going out for tea, unless things go  to s--t, with the truck bussiness, somethimg is bound to hold us up. had a MCDonalds brecky, he brought to me in bed. nice but not very warm, by the time he got home, but still yummy. so been so far a lovely start. have a good day to all of you.

Happy birthday Midnight - only the best people are born in August lol.  Good luck with finding a name for your rabbit - I'm terrible at thinking up names.  We are overrun with rabbits here - they are everywhere and causing havoc, they eat the vegie garden and at the moment are eating all our bulbs.  Our dogs are too lazy to run after them anymore - there are just too many of them.

I hope you have a lovely day - Maccas for breakfast - it's been a long time since I've done that lol

Happy Birthday Midnight KissKissKiss. Actually August birthdays are just a warm up for the really best birthdays which are in September! LOL.

I agree with Linda, this site is the best and the only support I need.

I am going to see my Onc earlier than usual to request another mamogram, which is due in November anyway (1st year check-up). I have the same funny sore feeling in my L Breast again that I had in the spot where the microcalcifications were found, now it's just a little further to the right by about an inch. Trying not to panic about it and reason that of course it's nothing, but my whole breast is very tender to touch and I have the sore spot. Being ignornant here, but could a recurrance occur so soon - like just out of active treatment?

Kate - don't panic - it could be nothing, but it's best to get it checked and have your mind put at ease.  Yes - you can have a recurrance occur this soon, but it might not be anything to worry about.  When are you going to your onc?  I would go sooner rather than later - just for peace of mind.

I'm due to see him before my next Herceptin in 2.5 weeks, but he comes down here every Thursday and Friday so I might ring and see if I can see him this week. It could also only be as a result from our car accident, as that is where my seat belt went across and I've felt it since then. But it's not getting any less sore over time (3 weeks ago). Hopeing that's what it is of course and not a recurrance. I tell you if it is I'd be so p***** off because that would mean that the chemo and rads didn't work for me and I would have lost my hair and all the other associated wear and tear on my body for no good reason at all.

Thankyou ladies,  for the birthday wishes,  Kate i am praying you will be ok. it will be a pain if its recurrance,  that accident may have upset things abit, but have everything crossed for you. i am seeing my surgeon on 4th of sept, have been having aching ribs and sore hip and lower back. hoping that is nothing too, also  have to a blood test, survalance  of the stinken old hormones that caused all the bother in the first place. I have not seen any of that lot for a year, so she said, its about time i did get booked in. even to discuss  things. Have a good day girls. oxxo

Could be a bit of internal bruising on preexisting scar material Kate. Get it checked out but try not to worry in the meantime. It makes sense that having some impact on scar tissue could inflame the area, or could make nerves that are regenerating act up.

Bout time you had some good luck so am hoping you can see the dr within a day or two and get the all clear

Thanks Girls. Yes I'm in to see him on Thursday.... I'm not going to mention it to the family and cause undue worry - it probably is that it got hurt from the seatbelt - it was a sudden stop from 80kms an hour so that does makes sense. I'll definitely let you know when I know.  But geez it's made me realise that you never ever stop worrying once you are dx'd. xxxxxx
