I'm back on for Friday - the Onc nurse just rang me, they are going to assume I'm ok for the infusion until they see me if they deem me too unwell then they will postpone it. The thing they are worried about is if I have a temperature, which I don't.

So barring any thing extra-ordinary about my bronchitis, it's all systems a go at 9.00am. GP has armed me with a phernergan puffer so that might help clear it up more before then.

And whoo hoo for you Jenn.

    Oh for heavens sake!

My period arrived (still can't believe I'm sharing stuff like this) and it's always been heavy and looks like it will be again. But now I'm paranoid I'll bleed out because of the chemo...

Anyone got info you can share to make me feel better about this?

Sorry Jenn I was post menopausal so didn't have that problem.  If it really concerns you give your breast nurse a ring, she can advise you on that one.

Kate - if the chemo nurses think you'll be ok, then they usually know almost as much as the oncs :-)  we'll be there with you holding your hand.  9.00am your time will be 12 noon my time I think?  I'll be on my way to Sydney.  My best friend's daughter is getting married on the Saturday and I'm the wedding photographer gulp I won't be home till Sunday, but will keep in touch with you via sms.

Jenn - you poor thing.  I can't help you either - I had a hyster when I was 28.  I don't think you'll bleed out though, and you never know, this might be your last one - would that be a good thing?

Oh - I just realised - I'm going to Sydney - are you anywhere near North Ryde?

I'll keep an eye on it... Feel so tired already though so I'm sure this won't help...

Always thought no more would be good, but not this way :-(

Kate - hope you continue to feel better each day!

Trish - very near North Ryde.

When are you here? If I'm ok maybe we can do tea/coffee at Macquarie Centre or something?

Jenn - we will be staying at the Stamford Grand.  I'll be free Friday afternoon and early evening and Saturday morning.  I'm not bad at driving in Sydney traffic, but I'd rather keep it to a minimum, would you be able to come to the hotel if you are up to it?

Trisha and Jenn Oh Lucky you two. I'll be there in spiritKiss

Thanks Jen, glad you are travelling OK. Sorry that you're starting to notice your hair though... are you going to wear a wig or anything?

I'm going up to Perth next Friday to the Cancer Councils wig library. I figured while I still had hair they might be able to match mine, then again I might just go for something totally radical. I think I will only use a wig if I am going out or around people I don't know. The rest of the time a buff or scarf will do. I am actually a little bit curious to see if I have any scars on my head. I was hit in the head with a big marrow bone when I was 5 and had stitches, then fell off a horse and had stitches for that. So, I might have a bald and scarred head - even better :(

Hi Kate, they usually give you a blood test the morning of chemo to check that you are well enough.

Jenn, I'm glad you are able to work at home and had a productive day. I didn't post any comments during the day, so as not to distract you LOL.

I'm worried about your hair when you go to work on Friday. If it's already started falling, the rate is likely to increase. Have you decided how you are going to handle this phase? I can tell you that I did not shave my head and never lost all my hair during chemo, though did lose most of it. I used a hair net during the weeks that the rate of fall was greatest, to prevent hair dropping everywhere. I think you will need to do something before going into work; either transition to your post hair plan (shave, wig, scarf?) or wear a hair net!!!

I will pm you about the other matter.

Jenn, I used to get my period whenever I had any major anxiety, naturally I had it non stop from being diagnosed, through both ops and the first chemo as well. Chemo isnt a blood thinner as such far as I know and I didnt notice that period being any heavier than normal and in my case it was the last one ive ever had. Also if it did have impact the drs and nurses would have warned you and they havent, so absolutely no need to worry

Thanks for the hair concern :-)

I got my two wigs before Xmas even (gotbthem in 2011 to claim on insurance and can get another in 2012 and claim :-))

I have VERY thick hair and it's only strands falling at the moment - I think I'll be OK for Friday...

I've already worn my long wig out a few times! Wore it out for our New Year dinner with friends and wore it to work one day and surprised everyone with long hair again (I had long hair I had cut short after my surgery in December).

Jenn - 10 in the lobby will be great!  Now how will I recognise you?  hmm..  the lady with long hair, or the lady with short hair leaving a trail of locks on the floor as she walks?

Everyone else - we'll have you all there with us, Chrissy, I'll take you especially out of my handbag and sit you on a chair lol

Kate - how are you feeling today?  Chest any better?

Ladies, I have a question for those of you who have experienced hot flashes (or flushes lol): how to you deal with using makeup and face creams? My face sweats, often just after I have applied face products and/or during the day. I rarely wear makeup now except for maybe a tinted moisturiser because of this problem but am thinking I might want to wear a bit more makeup at work.

    Any ideas?

Racy, I deal with the hot flushes by always having an old fashioned folded fan with me where ever I go.  I went to Cheap as Chip and bought them for $1 ea and they are quite pretty and very effective! and the best thing is no one seems to care that this old girl needs to fan herself periodically.....lol...I have them all over the house and in my handbag......they are my saviours.  Chemo curls can last for over a year.

    Hope this helps.

Ah curls girls! I have always had curly wavy hair. It has only been in the last 4 or 5 years that I have embraced them and worked with them and not against them. I also have found using my GHD hair straightener and always going to the hairdresser every 6 weeks ago to keep it trimmed keeps it manageable and looking great.

I am very gray but getting it coloured no body (not even me) knows just how much. So it will be quite a surprise when I see myself a la naturel in a few weeks. Fingers crossed when it grows back I have transformed into Helen Mirren's twin haha xx

Trisha - cough is I think getting a bit better. I definitely was better yesterday than the day before, so I think I have turned another corner - yay. You know what's worse about all this coughing? I have no bladder control! Amazing how the littlest drop just gets squeezed right out when you have a coughing fit! so lets see how many times I have to change today!!!

What about using the mineral powder type of foundation? That's the stuff I usually use - bought some of the other the other week though to cover my pale/red/green face that I currently seem to have.

Lol Kate, I can so relate with the dribbling thing and coughing!  Good to hear that you are getting a little better each day so hopefully tomorrow it will be all good to go.

I rarely if ever colour my hair but I only have a few silver threads amoungst the brown.  Both my older and younger sisters are totally grey and they hate me......lol......particularly the younger one........funny story,  When my niece was getting married, this was ten years ago, she asked that I go with her and her mum to pick her wedding gown.  After the job was done we were just standing in the car park having a bit of a chat and my younger sister started whooping and laughing and carrying on.  We all though she had gone nuts, but, finally she calmed down enough to get out, while pointing at me, 'finally, you have some gray hair!' the sun had picked up the six gray hairs (at that stage) on the top of my head and they had shone like a beacon.  She was just so happy that I had some as at that time she was already totally gray.

mmm Jenn, Dr Oz (I am a fan) does not like mineral powders as he says they can be inhaled and damage lungs. So don't breathe while you are applying it. Dr Oz favours pressed powder. I think he likes mineral makeup, just not the very fine powder.

I do have Innoxa translucent powder that gives good coverage so I will try that starting today!

Don't misunderstand me about the curls. I am very grateful to have hair and could live with curls. It's just that because noone knows about my situation I have to hide them.

I am an active member of the Hair Hair Hair thread so get a lot of tips there. It's a great place to go as you go through all the hair issues but mainly the regrowth stage.

Ok Jenn will look for your glasses lol  I wear glasses now too - but they are the rimless ones.  You'll also know me coz I have the chemo curls lol

I actually have always had curly hair, and never did anything to try to straighten them, my hair has always been very wiry and does exactly what it wants to.  Now it's even curlier - at times almost little ringlets now it's getting longer.

I don't wear make up, so can't help with that, but I too use a cheap hand held fan.  I'm lucky here at work, it's always freezing (something wrong with the airconditioning) so I usually have a jacket or cardigan or something on.  When I get a hot flush (which really isn't that often now) I just take the outer layer off.  Moisturiser - well I put it on in the morning and again just before I go to bed, haven't had a problem with it.

I too leak when I cough or sneeze - it's part of getting older lol and everythign relaxing I think.

I colour my hair too - I didn't have heaps of grey before chemo, but enough to want to cover it.  When it grew back in I got a shock at my "original" colour - didn't like it at all and there was a lot more grey - so I'm back to colouring it again.

Racy - it's been nearly 2 years since I finished chemo and I still have curls and I hate them!!! I'm trying to grow it to see if the extra weight will drag them out a bit. When I wake up in the morning I look like I have an afro.

Sue, thanks for the hope, not.

Kate, you need to do pelvic floor exercises. They are part of the wellness program that I am doing. It's not too late to start.
