Target has a good soft yet supportive style bra without underwire. They are only about $15. Sorry I don't know the style number but I'm very happy with the comfort, fit, support and overall look.

I find Target to be a very good place to buy underwear - big range, stylish and affordable with frequent specials.

I prefer not to wear padded bras as I don't need padding but it's hard to find ones that aren't padded. The one I mentioned above isn't.

As for those bras that have pads in them that elevate the breasts, I always thought they could cause BC so avoided them lol.

I got bras at BigW - no wires - Playtex I think - less than $20. I don't need to wear them now rads are over but they were great at the time. Probably the same one Racy got at Target.

I bought a pack of 3 bras from Target last week. They cost $25.00 for the 3!! Black beige and white and they are the most comfortable bras I have ever had. I told my friend who is a professional bra fitter in Myer and I don't think she was too impressed. I'm going back for more.

They just come in sizes...12-14, 14-16 etc  and fit me like a dream. I was told about them on another forum by a lady in Perth so I guess they're available Australia wide.

    Couldn't believe the price.

Thinking of the chemo ladies and hope you are feeling not too bad and getting support at home.

Can anyone help our Kiwi neighbour kt1966 in responding to her thread question about mastectomy items?

Aussiekate. Funny about your Border Collies names Jack and Jill. ( just realised that BC formerly the abbreviation for Border Collie now has a new meaning!) My boy is called Bear and he is 6 years old. Loves swimming

Trish-ann. The cooking sounds great. I make plum sauce too.

Thanks for the info about the bras everyone. The underside of my breast is looking rather messy (pimples with heads coming off) and I am only on treatment #7, but I have had this condition before in Summer. However this time it is only on the affected side so I don't know whether its the radiation  or the creams. I will check out some of those bras. Did you buy the Ahhh bras on-line Trish-Ann?

Racy: Sorry I can't help kt1966 with her question about mastectomy

    Hi Gerri

I did get them online - actually on e-bay.  They aren't the named ones, they are similar though, and very comfy.
It's quiet on here at the moment - how is everyone?

    Kate?  How you doing?

Jenn how are you travelling today?  Still nauseous?

    Chrissy - how's the sleep?
Kylie - how was the wedding?

Hey Trish the sleep is non exitant without meds :(   I guess I'm just getting uptight about the knee surgery and all the crap that will follow it until I'm back on my feet properly and of course the weather has been a tad hot these last few days and I never cope well in the heat, I much prefer the weather at around 25 not 35.................lol.

On the subject of bras, I've been wearing  the Ahhhh bra and find it very comfy.  It doesn't give much shape but with only one to hang low, shape is not necessary unless I'm going somewhere special.  Thats when I wear the prosthetic and a good bra.............but not a comfy one..................lol.

Kylie I hope the wedding went off without a hitch and you cried mobs of tears of joy as she walked down the aisle.  There is nothing so special than seeing you daughter marry other than watching her give birth to a grandchild.  Not quite sure which is more special...........perhaps they equal each other.

Kate and Jenn sure hope you are over the ickies for now and are feeling much better.

Sue how is your back feeling now?

Hope your Sunday is cool and relaxed all.

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

    Morning all. Happy lovely Sunday.

I'm feeling great today. Yesterday I took some over the counter pain meds & a sleeping pill for my back (update, I think it's muscular and not from the Neulasta - I was given a shoulder massage the night before and I was sitting up for it, so I think I got too relaxed and hunched for too long), anyway so I slept for 5 hours during the day. Naturally then I had trouble sleeping last night waking at 1.30am. Eventually got back to sleep with another sleeping pill (over the counter) and slept in until about 9.00am.

I am going to spend the afternoon gardening (my fav. pastime) and of course lunch is cooking as I type this. So looking forward to it. Crumble looks like... crumble.

Kylie - how did the wedding go? I bet you are probably rightly exhausted now. Can't wait to hear all the details when you are back up to getting on here.

Have a nice day gals... Love Kate xxx

    Hi Everyone,

As you can probably tell, we did the hairshave today. I only cried a bit!  My head hurts less without the weight.

The wedding was fantastic, perfect weather and a perfect day. DH drove Bridie in an antique firetruck and we had a marvellous time. I was so proud and everything went beautifully and it was so much fun.

We went to the rehearsal the day before and I was so sick. I had a migraine, vomiting and slight temp. Terrified I would end up in hospital and not make the wedding. Then amazingly I was fine on the wedding day and made it to midnight!!! Exhausted today though.

I hope everyone is feeling as well as possible and coping day to day.

I can ignore snakes and spiders, so many of them here, but we have the worst mosquito problem. I am terrified of lymphodema and hate them so much.

Kylie - good on you - great you were well for the wedding :) You look really good - love your head shape.

Chrissy - my back is better but now I have a pain in my hip - so back to the physio if it still hurts tomorrow.

Kate & Jenn - sleep all you need - it's a great healer.

Glad to hear everyone is travelling relatively well.

Kate - hope the gardening went well.
Jenn - hoping that you rested well and aren't feeling so bad today

Sue - back to hip pain.  My DH has a really bad back, and usually hip pain is tied in with something being out in his back.  When he gets his back adjusted then the hip pain goes.

Kylie - so glad you were able to enjoy the wedding - and I love your "shaved" look - you do have a good shaped head!  Interstingly - while I was on chemo the mossies left me totally alone.  They usually love me - but didn't come near me while on chemo.  I guess they could smell the chemicals and went to my DH instead!

Kylie woohoo!  you sure do rock the shaved look!!  So glad the wedding day turned out so well and everyone had a ball and even better that you felt okay and lastedd till midnight.  Take it easy now and get your energy back.

Jenn sure hope you are starting to feel a bit better there is nothing worse than that 'poisoned' feeling.  Glad to hear that you are taking the time to rest up and sleep.

Kate hope your gardening went well but hope that you didn't over do it as we all have a tendancy to do without realising.  Did you enjoy the peach crumble to the fullest?.........lol...........I'm sure you made the most of  each and every mouthful!

Sue I sure hope your visit to the physio makes a difference to your hip pain and eases it a whole lot.

Shiela how is your little fur baby going?  Has she caught any more mice?  I love watching a kitten play they sure do have some imagination with their stalking and pouncing antics.....lol.  I can spend hours playing with them with a feather tired to a piece of string.

Allyson I sure hope you are feelig a bit better now and not doing too much.......

Lyndal and Gerri sure hope all is good with you.

Have I forgotten anyone?  If so..........ooops!   Sorry!  I hope you are all dong well.

The weather has finally broken and it is in the temperature range that I prefer, we even had a shower of rain to make it fresh........yay!  I got a text from my niece last night wondering if I would like a visit from her and the children.............naturally I said yes with a capital Y..........lol.........as I haven't seen the baby since the day she was born.  All is set for them to come for lunch on Wednesday and I am so looking forward to it!  I will finally be able to give Katlyn a good cuddle!  I love the smell of babies!!!  mmmm.......they smell so sweet I could eat them........lol......but I usually give loads of kisses instead.

    Have a great day all!

Thanks for the compliments, the first day of no hair is fairly daunting. I had to go to the post office for a parcel (my wig!!!!!!) but I chickened out on going by myself, waited till DS got home, put on my scarf and went for it. Small town syndrome, people that know you manage to serve you in a shop without looking at you. Guess I have to get used to that one, DH has a lazy eye and he said no-one looks him in the eye either, so we match!

Kate and Jenn, I hope you are feeling ok. Because you are both just ahead of me I read your posts avidly.

Sue, I hope your hip is feeling better, I love my osteopath, he is married to my physio but he just seems to have a magic touch.

Is it just me or does this site use up heaps of internet? I am on limited amount and when on here I seem to go through it so quickly, but this is my lifeline at the moment. LOL.

    Hugs to all. Kylie x

So the good news of the day is that I got the call to say that my hep test came back negative! Because my liver functions were so high last week they wanted to check that it was definitely due to the chemo and not anything else underlying ie: hepatitis.

It's good to know (I guess) that my onc was right to withhold the cyclophosphamide as that was probably the culprit. My research nurse phoned through with the results and wished me luck for my port check tomorrow. We already know each other through work and she came right out and told me that she felt I've been hit hard by the FEC in comparison to other people. She is hoping for less SEs from the Taxol for me :-)

Spent the whole day today on the bed still feeling horrible - but HUNGRY! I don't think I've eaten so much in ages - not all good stuff either :-(

    regards Jenn

Jenn it's really good that you bloods came back negative for Hep as that would really have put the cat among the pigeons so to speak.  Sorry you are still feeling ick and the hunger thing is a right pain as as you say, you eat not the good stuff!

Continue to take it easy and good luck with your port appointment tomorrow!

Jenn - YAY! that's great news about the liver tests - but I'm so sorry you feel so yuk.  You really have been hard hit by the FEC - I was never as bad as you.  I had my off days and was very, very tired, but not the sick tummy like you.  Sending you lots of ((((hugs)))) and keeping my fingers crossed you get some good news about your port tomorrow.  I'm sure that if the FEC se's are bad for you the Taxol will be better - I was the other way round good with FEC and pretty horrible with Taxotere - so that proves it lol

Kylie - I can relate to the small downloads.  I used to have just 500mg!  Would you believe it!?  We used to only have satellite internet because of where we live.  But now I have an Optus USB modem - it's $40 per month for .... ummmm ....  I think it's 2gb, but whatever I don't use each month rolls over.  It's prepaid - so I'd know if I went over, and I haven't for the past 7 months or so.  Telstra pre-paid USB modems are also pretty cheap and work in most places.

    Hi everyone.

Yes of course I overdid it yesterday Chrissy ... it's just when I have energy it seems it is there to be burnt. Today has been a flop day. I think the pattern with me is I have one or two good days then a day or two where I just don't have any energy.

Kylie - so glad the wedding was a success and that you are doing so well. Treatment #2 has been easier for me with less SE's than the first. My breast nurse said that 'most' FEC women tend to have it worse on their first and better on on subsequent ones. But I know others who say it is the opposite, so I've just been taking each day as it comes and seeing how I go. My biggest side effect has been fatigue and just a queasy off feeling. But rest helps with the fatigue and eating when I get the queasies.

Susie - Hows your back today?

Jenn - I hope the Taxol will be a much better experience for you than the FEC.

OK so now that I'm half way through chemo, radiation is looming. I'll have 6 weeks of it. Are there any side effects with that? I've heard about my dear friend fatigue being one of them? Can't be worst than chemo can it?

  • racy
    racy Member Posts: 976

Kate, in my experience radiation is much more tolerable than chemo. Will you be getting it locally? I hope you don't have to drive to Perth. Will you be working?

I don't remember being overly tired. Any tiredness that I felt was a residual effect of chemo.

Jenn, Kate and Katopet, try to go with what your body is telling you in regard to energy, rest and appetite and don't worry about it. Be kind to yourselves for this short time.

Jenn, I'm relieved that your liver issues are not serious.

Trish and Chrissy - I have telstra wireless, but I am using about 4G every two weeks, I have been enquiring about plans etc but all the good ones aren't available in our area.  I am starting to think it didnt use so much before the computer crashed. I have tried different settings with no luck. I used to be great with the computer but lately ahhhh.

Kate - I can relate to the tiredness, I start doing things and then feel so limp if I overdo it.  I hope the 2nd FEC is better. I am so sick of being nauseous, having constant headaches, toxic periods, buzzing feet, sore eyes and not sleeping ...... I am so sick of the cording too, I am sure that being in the CT machine for 1hr with your arms above your head a week after a full clearance didn't help! Whining again sorry.

Off to onco on Wednesday and I have a huge list of questions for him.  One of the down sides of so much support from breast care nurses etc is that by the time the onc asked if I had any questions there were 6 people in the room and I felt overwhelmed and just said no. I blame that Catholic School education for that.

I feel a bit stressed that the surgeon and onco seem to focus on the treatment but if you don't ask the right questions you walk out none the wiser about the small stuff that plays on your mind at 3am.

Jenn - I hope you get a chance to rest between work and family.  Sore feet really suck, they just make every task so much harder. hopefully your liver will get back to normal asap.

I have Optus cable - 5G and we've used up all of our data for the month (blame Steve), so we've been slowed down until Mar 1st. I've just been playing Solitaire while I wait for a page to load - lucky BCO doesn't take all that long.

Went to the physio - we'll see how it goes. I think it happened because I stopped sleeping with a pillow between my legs and I sleep in a really bad position. He said to come back Wednesday but to cancel if it goes away. I'm lucky I can see him in the city after work. I'm naughty - haven't been doing my exercises.

Looks like Poppy (my kitty) has decided to be naughty tonight - I've been around the house twice calling her and she's a no show. Sometimes she decides to explore the area outside the gate - the pest.

Jenn - glad they've cleared you for hepatitis

Kate - chemo girls usually do really well with radiation as it's much easier than chemo.

Hi Ladies, Hope all are feeling well or as well as can be expected.

Racy, you probably already know of it, but just in case you havent come across it theres a brilliant boutique on Park Road at Milton called Spirit of Life run by a wonderful understanding woman who specialises in all things lingerie and BC. I got my breastform & 4 bras from her 3 years ago and havent had to buy another bra since. She also does swimwear.  I dont remember the bras being expensive and they are truly comfortable and of course gorgeous styles  that you dont have to lose a breast to look great in. The fact I wear a bra every day and havent had to replace any says a lot for the quality too.

Kylie a good suggestion for remembering what you want to ask the onc or surgeon is to have a small pad and pencil and write the questions down as you think of them and keep the pad in your handbag so it doesn't get forgotten when you go for your appointments.  I use my iPhone but before I got it I used a small spirax note pad.  I always have a list of questions even for my GP........I'm sure they all shudder when they get my notes and realise I'm baaaack!

Kate rads are way easier than chemo but the old friend fatigue does come visiting so be prepared for that.  Oh and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise with what they recommend and if that doesn't work well for you emu oil is also great.

My phone and internet is Engin.  The phone is now internet based VOIP and I pay $124 per month but I know there are some cheaper plans.  It sounds alot but it's not as that covers all my home phone to mobile, interstate and some of the girls in the USA and because of where I live 99% of my calls are STD and I always like to have a good conversation not just a hello goodbye so each call can be very long......lol.  The 100GB is not included in those phone calls but is included in the total price.  I do know that there are quite a few companies offering the Voip but don't really advertise it as they make more money on the other plans.  There is no problem if the internet goes down as then the phone just reverts back to a normal land line until the net is back up so I still always have a phone.  So country girls it's worth checking out as even we can use this.  If you can get braodband you can get Viop.

Hi there, up until now I've been posting in the Not Diagnosed But Worried forum and am waiting for the results of my first routine mammogram, based on what I saw on the rad screen I'm anxiously expecting a call back any day now.

i just wanted to introduce myself and to ask about experiences of BC care in Queensland, I'm in the Gold Coast, should I need it them where are best Breast Centres - Brisbane, GC or even out of state? Racy tells me there's a centre at GC hospital, what is that like?

I have private health insurance and any pros and cons of private and state provided services, access to drugs, treatment methods etc. will be very much appreciated.
