Kylie I would have been very upset too - and don't worry about ranting! This is the place to do it about anything!
Hope everyone else is going ok.

Kylie. Having been in the situation previously with Sarah and taking my concerns to the principal, it fell on deaf ears. Feeling strongly that the hierachy of the school were a one armed self serving band, we changed schools. This was reluctant cause kids need to face and deal with a bit of adversity and can't chop and change when ever there is a disagreement, but on the other hand, when you just know that the culture of the school is not going to change (and it starts with the principal and down through the staff) then I think it is justifiable. Sarah had broken her elbow on the school play equipment, had surgery and the day she went back to school (she was in grade 3 at the time) her 'teacher' wrote in Sarah's writing notebook that her 'handwriting was a disgrace!!!' (yes even with exclamation marks and for best effect in red pen). Sarah's arm was in plaster up to her shoulder and it was her writing arm. Sad thing was Sarah was worried about her writing, and I'd told her just to try her best and if it hurt or was too difficult, no one would mind (given the circumstances) of switching to her left hand or just don't do it. How wrong was I?? I still feel bad about that to this day....

Racy - it is cancer and all its ramifications isn't it. Dom is only at the school because of my cancer, and we are only in this house because of cancer, so they are all entwined. Yep cancer sucks.
Kate - that's a terrible story, poor Sarah. Dom is off to high school next year so there is light ahead. How are your wedding decorations going?
Gerri - enjoy having your cousins with you, sounds lovely.
Trisha- great to see the sun, I hope you have dried out thoroughly.
Kylie x
Susie - I hope your pain has settled down.

Pom Poms are all done!!!!!. Honestly thank goodness for elderly people with time on their hands. We have made about 70 all different sizes and I have to say they look good! I suppose I have made 20 of them, but I have been busy madly tidying up the gardens and inside the house because my uncle from Canberra is coming over tomorrow. It is his first visit here so of course I have been extra keen to have the place in tip-top condition. I am driving up to collect him in the morning and then he will stay the night here before catching the train back up to Perth on Thursday. Now all I have to make are my cut out doves (hanging on ribbon), abstract sort of hearts, again on ribbon, and my dog food tin. Dog food tins I hear you ask?? well, I found this picture where they used tins (labels off of course) and just filled them with everlasting daisies - I am substituting this with babies breath, and then a nice little raffia ribbon around the tin. They look so simple but effective. I will definitely post pics (on facebook) when it's all done.
I am so much better today. I went to the anaethetist for my pre-surgery check up. Seems I'm in pretty good shape lung and heartwise and BP was normal. I am feeling even better today. Yesterday I seemed to crash again with fatigue and nausea at about lunch time. I didn't take a supp yesterday and maybe I should have. Anyway today is a good day so hoping I have finally turned the corner from that yuckiness.
Hope everyone is continuing to feel well, happy and/or dry

Kylie - it seems ot be settling down - thanks for asking. I'm only taling something in the morning and manage to go all day without needing any more pain killers. It is much much better but I'm not quite there yet.
Kate - you will love your port when you get it - ((((((((HUGS))))))))))

Well done Kate!!!

Hi all! Sorry to go MIA for a couple of days but I have been the proverbial busy bee!...............lol. Had a wonderful visit from my niece and my grand niece and nephew and she bought my elder sister with her as well so that was a lovely surprise. You can imagine that there was lively conversation flowing the whole time! Then today, I had a friend from Wallaroo pop in for a cuppa and another I bumped into in the supermarket. I don't see anyone for weeks on end then they all come in the same few days!........lol.....oh well, I guess that's the way it goes.
Kate so glad you have finished of all the pompoms! It is a job well done even with the help of the olds.....lol. Enjoy your visit with your uyncle and so glad you are finally feeling better. Good luck for your port surgery! I know you will wonder why you didn't do it before.
Jenn I hope you are feeling okay and the Taxol is not giving you too much trouble.
Kylie I'm with you on the neglect of the teachers and the head regarding your son and his migrane. That really is just not good enough particularly when it is a known fact that he gets them. I sure hope someone gets hauled over the coals about it! Rant away any time you need to........BCO is great for that and we all understand that it is necessary sometimes.
Sue good to hear that you are getting by with only taking meds in the morning but boy! this sure has been hanging around for a while now. Hope the effect disappear sooner rather than later.
Trish are you all dry yet?
Racy how's your woring week turning out......hope it's all good.
Take care all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hello all
I'm still here - but have been a bit busy too - we all seem to be busy these days. I'm amazed at Kate though - you are as busy as I am, but you're going through chemo!! You are one tough cookie girl. When's your port insertion happening?
Sue - sorry you are still having some pain - do you think the new AI you are on might be having something to do with it? Maybe not, but these days I don't put anything past the meds we are on.
Kylie - how are you going? When's your next treatment? I think I remember you saying you start rads soon?
Chrissy - good to hear you had a good time with your family, it's always great to catch up with loved ones.
Jenn - how's the taxol treating you now? You have another in a couple of days don't you?
Lyndal and Racy - what's happening your worlds?
Nosey aren't I? lol
Well we are finally starting to dry out, which is lovely. There's still a lot of water around - mainly in the paddocks, but the road seems to be holding up and our driveway only has one scary part that's still big mud holes. Hopefully in another week or so the ground will have firmed up enough to get the big gravel trucks in to finish the road off and hopefully get a couple up our driveway to fix that.
Otherwise, I'm going well and bubbling along nicely.

Trish - no, it's definite sciatic pain not Aromasin. The good thing is Steve is starting relax and not trying to make me have the MRI - it's definitely much better. I see the physio today.

I went to the onco today. He looked at my mammogram again and thinks the lump on my rib is a benign cyst which was already there. If it keeps hurting or gets worse I will have it checked again.
Trish - I am only up to chemo no3 of 6 next week, I won't start radio until June. Because I am changing regions for radio I had to get it organised. The onco was fine and wrote my referal for Canberra so I am feeling relieved.
Suzie - I am glad your pain is settling. Does hydrotherapy help at all?
Jenn - hugs for Friday.
Kate - Glad you got your pom-poms done that must be a relief. I have seen the tins with flowers, they look great!

I was just checking my FB and came across this. My GS got bored in supervised free period at school so decided to do some body art on himself.
He is such a talented artist and I'm so very proud of him!!!

Hi all,
Was atvwork today (in the real office rather than the home office). Even with only taking 1/2 day sick leave this week I am sooooo overloaded with work! Probably could have kept working for an extra couple of hours this evening but called it a day sensibly.
Did duck out late morning to go to my BS appt to check this new lumpiness in my BC breast. The pain has reduced this last week, however she wants to check it out since the painful area is in a different spot to where the lump was. So I'm off for an ultrasound next Thursday...
Glad to hear everyone seems to be doing ok-ish...
Not looking forward to Friday but the muscle/joint pain seems to have reduced today. The breast care nurse called me this morning after I emailed and said that she already has a script waiting for me for panadeine forte for this next time - I used some left over from Tony's script (for his back) and it seemed to help the other night. The worst pain has been what appears to be my uterus cramping (like really bad period pains) and when the pain moves into my ankles (it moves around) I feel like my ankles are unstable for walking on.
Still, no sign of any neuropathy as yet - am religiously taking my vit B, L-Glutamine and Acetyl L-Carnitine each day...
Jenn0 -
Chrissy - wow! That's amazing, you have a very talented GS. Wish I could do that.
Jenn - will keep my fingers crossed for your US next week. Good to hear the panadeine forte helped - it was my godsend. Hopefully you'll escape the neuropathy too - I was lucky there and never got it. Sending you big ((((((hugs)))))
Kate - you've been suspiciously quiet - how are things with you?

Where is everyone? I hope you are all busy and not ill xoxo
Well - I've been to the dentist today - and will have to have 2 teeth out. $2100 later I'll have a partial plate and 2 less teeth. :-( These teeth started to get loose on Taxotere, so I'm not impressed. I also had a fairly large mouth ulcer on Taxotere, and that's still partially there. I didn't realise, it just felt really smooth, so the teeth next to that will have to have a really "deep" clean (that makes me shudder just thinking about it) and hopefully I won't have any more bone loss around those teeth.
To say I'm not happy is a bit of an understatement.

Ooo Trish! I feel for you being at the dentist! That is probably my biggest fear.............The Dentist!!!!..........I will happily do just about anything not to have to go.....lol......thank goodness I have pretty strong teeth...........well the ones that are left are strong.........hahahaha! I was told three years ago that I needed a partial plate for the bottom but after getting the quote I decided I can eat well enough with out it.................the price was just plain criminal!!!! I feel for your hip pocket with your quote!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Trish, I've had dental problems since treatments too. Fortunately my front tooth didn't need to come out so I won't need a denture but the thought of it was not good. I do need an expensive crown now so should be still seeing the dentist for weeks. Talking to family members, I was surprised that many had dentures already and it was a source of shame and low self-esteem. In fact it's fairly "normal" and ordinary. I felt better knowing that.
Chrissy, Your GS's art is impressive.

Trish, that's not good news about your teeth. I swear I have a problem with one of mine... just recently. I'm thinking of dropping my private hospital only cover and switching to glasses and dental. I'm figuring that any big ticket items I need in hospital I can get going public, whereas teeth and glasses are something I might be needing more regularly. I wear glasses, multi-focals, over $600 a pop (mind you I just had to get 'nice' frames).
I'm dog tired. Yep, burnt the candle at both ends with too much housework and gardening clean up. Still I had a wonderful time with my uncle and today I have basically just stayed in bed sleeping and my house is clean and uncluttered - bonus!
Thinking of you tomorrow Jenn and Kylie hope you are doing OK too. Oh and Chrissy your GS is one very talented artist. xxxxx

For the ladies with teeth problems, dont forget to check with your gp for a referral to medicare for the dental. That entire root canal and crown that caused me so much agony for a month, ended up being free through medicare and used up around $1600 of the $4100 or so that Im entitled to. Ive put a hold on doing anything more till i see the onc next month (mainly cause im sick of dentists haha)

Kate I have top hospital and extras but I only get $600 rebate per year for major dental that's why I still don't have my denture for my bottom teeth. The quote was $1800 and after my fund pays I am still $1200 out of pocket and that's $1200 I don't have. Do check out everything thoroughly before you change anything. My multifocal glasses cost over $500 and the rebate was just $200 so again I'm still $300 out of pocket. Having the extras was worth having years ago but now it seems that the cost goes up and the rebates go down Just got a letter from my health fund telling me my fees are about to rise again up to $341 per month now...........grrrrrr!..............Just as well I use the jolly thing just about every year. For the last ten years I have been in hospital for something every year so I guess I have had my money's worth out of it so I shouldn't complain.
Lyndal I must remember about the Medicare scheme next ime I see my GP as I'm sure he will give me the referal for my denture............yay!!!! I'll be able to chew properly again!!!!........lol.
0 -
lol Chrissy, I hope you do remember, no way you dont qualify for the scheme. btw my mum went and got 3 pairs of the good glasses from Big W not long ago, and it cost her something like $90 per pair, maybe less. check them out and you might be well ahead financially.
0 -
Lyndal, I would get my glasses a lot cheaper if I only had single vision lenses but I have to have multifocal which sends the price through the roof! It's not the frames that cost the money but the lenses and without them I'm as blind as a bat!............lol
0 -
so is mum, she got the multifocals from Big W im sure. I'll ask her again tomorrow how much they were, but she checked everywhere and found them to be the cheapest. mind you I think they had a great offer on at the time which may not be year round.

I usually go to Specsavers as they are the nearest optometrists to where I live and that is half an hour drive from me. Also they have a deal with my health fund so I don't know if it would be any cheaper but I certainly would be interested to find out. My only problem would be the two and a half hour drive to get to my nearest store!
0 -
Ouch lol, yeah thats a long drive. Guess it would be smart to wait till they have a great special which makes the trip worth while

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about all the teeth probs :-( Dentists are so expensive as are glasses. I used to go to OPSM but my glasses were costing nearly $1000 (lenses being the big ticket item because of my script). Last time I went to Specsavers which still cost over $500.
Off to the chemo room again this afternoon. This will be the first one without my Tony sitting with me. My BFF (known each other since we were 10!) is coming with me. She talks a lot (i'm the quiet one in the relationship) so we'lll see if I still end up snoozing this week ;-)
Jenn0 -
Jenn - what were you doing on here at 4.00am?? Couldn't sleep? I'll be thinking of you this afternoon xoxo Here's hoping the second treatment is gentle on you.
I too get my glasses from SpecSavers. I'm short sighted and my last lot of glasses were about $500 for multifocals. I have two very different eyes - one if very short sighted and one is only slightly shortsighted, so have never been able to get "off the shelf" lenses. SpecSavers are the cheapest option.
Kate - when do you have your port put in? I keep forgetting lol
Trish

Next Wednesday is the porting day. For some reason I am very apprehensive about this procedure, whereas having the big double reduction and lumpectomy didn't phase me at all. I can't make sense of why I feel like this. I know it is only minor compared to the 7+ hours of breast surgery. But I still can't shake this feeling of doom. xxx
0 -
Ooo Kate I know how you feel. I think it is because of the long surgery that you have had that makes you feel that way. Really, the whole porting procedure is not very long at all..........almost like they put you out and then you're in recovery. You will be fine and will wonder why you were feeling like this once it's all done.
Jenn hope your infusion goes well today and there are no adverse reactions! Sorry your Tony can't be there with you today but it's good that your friend is happy to step into the breach and sit with you. Maybe her chatter is just what you need. Good luck!
Love n hugs girls! Chrissy

Chrissy - fantastic artwork. So clever.
I seem to be so zapped, everytime we go somewhere I come home exhausted. I went to LGFG which was great. Sometimes I read your posts but haven't been up to typing, I still love reading them though.
Jenn - I hope your treatment went ok today.
Trish - sorry to hear about your teeth. It is something that worries me as well, keeping an eye on my back tooth.
Kate - thinking of you.
Hugs and more hugs to everyone else.
I received this months 'the beacon' magazine from BCNA. On page 13 is an article on Illawarra Dragon Boaters. What a surprise to me was that my Mum is in the photo. If you get it, Mum is at the rh end with a cast on her leg. 75 with three breaks which won't heal and still paddling!
Off to bed, hugs to everyone, Kylie x

Just had my nightly phone call with my mum and asked her about her glasses. BigW had a special on at the time, 2 frames for $98 and for that deal she got one long distance set and one short distance set, plus she bought a set of multifocals which including the frame and lens cost her $98. She said their range of frames arent as extensive as places like Specsavers, but she got the 3 sets she was after for under $200 so she was well and truly happy with that.
I just looked them up on the internet and they advertise that they do the eye tests bulk billing medicare, that they have 600 frames to choose from, that they start at $56 including the single vision lens. and that multifocals are $120. Am copying their link here for any of you who are interested. http://www.bigw.com.au/help/Optical/Opticalmain-content
