I still haven't tried to post pictures. Alas,I need my teenage GD to be next to me. But I am sewing up a storm, making historical costumes for DD and 9yo GD. Can hardly wait to finish so I can get back to quilting. I keep buying fabric like beautiful fabric will no longer be available. She who dies with most fabric wins, right? Or is it, she who dies with the most fabric still dies. On line quilt shops are my downfall. They all have my credit card number, so all I need to do is tell them how much to send.

    Happy Stitching, Jan

I'm trying very hard to use up fabric I already have and still like. Ordering online would really be my downfall.

I've been busy finishing the crochet blanket for my SIL and I'm pleased to say it is finally all done. Here it is on my bed.......I took this so I could email her the pic. It ended up huge! My bed is king size and it has plenty of overhang all round!

    image

Now I just need to pack it up and send it back to her..........oh, and find myself another project to work on.....lol.

Chrissy, that a great blanket. It must have weighed a ton while you were working on it.

I have a knitting project that's been carted around the US with me hoping that I'd work on it. For some stupid reason, I won't start a new project until this one is done. I don't do that with quilting things! Oh well, hoping to do some more on this week.

I don't buy fabric unless I absolutly have to. I've got way too much now and need to use it up. That doesn't count the transformer fabric I just got for a birthday present to give. Haha

Here's the last quilt I did for Xmas present. It has a pink and blue border on it now. I just might try quilting it myself. It's a disappearing 9 patch. And I had all the fabric. The prints are a pack of coordinating 61/2" squares.

Smaarty the blanket weighs a ton for sure!....lol. The one good thing though is that it kept me toasty warm while I was working on it.

That little quilt is lovely! The last quilt I did by hand was the one I made for my niece when she turned one so I guess its almost time I did another or finished the tumbling block quilt I started years ago!

Alyson, That is so pretty. I wish I could knit quickly. I'm so slow it takes a year to do a simple sweater. You and Chrissy can just turn them out in no time. I love the color too. Candy is a good way to describe it.

Aly that is so lovely! I used to do that pattern when my girls were little and it always looked lovely.

Wren, I started knitting jumpers when I was just twelve. I used to charge ten cents a ball to knit for other people's children and I always had more orders than I could keep up with so had to learn to knit quickly in order to earn.......lol. For a long time it was always cheaper to knit a jumper than to but one so I continued to knit and now do it more for pleasure than necessity.

Here is a pic of the pattern I've decided on for my lap blanket. It's one I've not done before but I'm quite pleased with the effect.

    tedwilliams,

What a gorgeous quilt . Adding to Wrens post . Would you mind sharing the technique ? ( and a website if one exists to show the technique/pattern . I am really trying hard not to increase my library of quilt books :-) , but if purchasing a book is required I will I am a hand quilter and my passion is finding vintage quilt tops and completing them . I don't sew much (only making the bindings and attaching them to the vintage tops I quilt. After seeing your quilt I would love to "attempt" to make one . Again your work is stunning !!

After finishing chemo I needed a craft to get my brain working again. I discovered rag quilts. Easy to cut and put together. I wanted to expand that technique and found this pattern on Etsy. It is made from flannel.

This one was made for an event to raise funds for a preschool at my church. It was on display with other art work for several weeks. Chances were sold and raised a nice chunk of change. At the artist reception, I had so much fun watching people snuggle up to the quilt. They would literally rub their faces on the softness of the fraying. This may become my signature quilt.

Getting ready to make another one to donate to a bulldog rescue. Here is the link to the woman and her shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/itssewsally

Jana, that quilt is great! Chrissy, you hand crocheted that big blanket, it would take me a year to do that. Very nice blanket that is a lovely gift.

Alyson your pink project is so pretty. My DGD has somehow grown to be a size 5 or 6 now. She'll be five in august.

We moved, everything isd back in boxes without enough room to unpack them.

I love seeing all of your beautiful work. If I ever get anything done again I will post it.

    Love Ginger

I am fairly new here.... I am preparing myself for a BMX w/a DIEP flap in July. Along with reading up on what to bring to the hospital and what to have on hand after surgery...I am kitting up projects I want to work on during recovery. my creative hobby is cross stitching. I Have probably 150 projects going and another 1,000 in my stash. I usually stitch while I watch Tv. I am wondering how long I will have to wait until in I can an pick up my needle again? This is my 2nd battle with cancer - i as dx dx with appendix/colon cancer in 2012 and had abdominal surgery. I was able to stitch 3 days out from surgery and thru 6 months of chemo. Anyone else pick up a needle shortly after surgery?

Here is a picture of one of my current projects and one of my recent finishes...imageimage

And here is one I am kitting up...image

Yeg, Those are gorgeous! I don't think stitching would be a problem. Reaching over your head is painful. I don't know about the DIEP though. Perhaps someone on that thread would have that information.

Yeg sorry you had to join this group but welcome.I always start sewing as soon as possible probably within days. I did cross stitch all the way through chemo. I knit as well so think about your projects and get then ready. I love the fact that you have many projects on the go. I have UFOs all over the place.

Hi Yeg and another big welcome to you.........so sorry that you need to join us but nice to have you here. I embroidered the squares for my recovery quilt and I started that pretty much within days of leaving hospital so welding a needle and thread shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't try pulling through long threads. That might stretch you a bit and make you sore, other than that all should be good.

Good luck with everything! Oh, your work is wonderful!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

I had a DIEP as well.  Stitching shouldn't be a problem once you are out of the hospital - or at least out of ICU.  Usually you are in ICU for a day or two as they keep a very close eye on your new flap to ensure the blood is flowing properly.  As Chrissy says, though.  Do NOT stretch!!  Far more problematical than making you sore, it could rip the stitching on your DIEP and you could lose the flap.

    Your work is beautiful!!
