Barbe I like the idea of that gadget for keeping your fabric taut while free motion quilting. What is it called and where would I be able to get it.....is it big? could I fit it in my suitcase? Really sounds like a good thing to me......

I'll have to check into it. I will be in the city again next week so I can go to the Bernina shop and see if they have something like it. I've never heard or seen them before......very interesting and I can see how they would make free motion easier..... Thanks for the info girls!

It makes it easier to not turn your fabric. Otherwise you'd be crossing your arms....

Some times my patience runs out and I have a tendancy to do the same thing but I would probably do more quilting if some how I could make the process a little faster.....lol

It's not dependant to the machine! You can get a generic version if you can find it. It is just a single, almost circle of plastic with what I used to call 'handles' to hold on to. Should be around $10.
If you are donig a finer picture you may want to hoop your work upside down in an embroidery hoop (upside down so the fabric is flat to the machine not raised) and that holds it tight enough to do very fine work. I did some leaves once this way, by hooping meltable stuff like Saran Wrap, holding my leaf between 2 sheets of it and then immersing it in water to disolve it when I was done. Then the leaf gets attached to the picture by free motion again.

I did some searching on the internet and found a "Supreme Free Motion Slider" that fits any machine for $29.95. The website is www.freemotionslider.com. I may have to get one and try it. I am been wanting to machine quilt for a long time but did not think I could do it with a regular machine. Always thought I had to have a long arm machine and they are out of my budget range.

Last Friday at Relay for Life one of the stage 4 ladies from my local group asked me if I was still crocheting the caps. I said I was and she asked me if I could crochet a rolled brim hat out of cotton yarn because most of the hats she had were too hot. She had one cotton hat that she liked but would like another one. My aunt had been given a good stash of yarn from her cousin's husband that included cotton yarn that she is giving to me. I have some here already but will be picking more up next month when we go to Ohio to visit. I have found a pattern for crocheted cotton summer hats and am attempting to make hats for her. Wish me luck on it fitting. The other hats I made were more stretchy and size didn't matter.

Lvtwoqlt, thank you for the info on where to send supplies to quilters or sewers in Joplin MO. It mentions that the part of the guild that made charitiy quilts was actually in one of the destroyed houses so all their supplies are gone. So anything of that nature is needed. Cutting boards, scissors, irons, fabric, batting, the whole shebang. If you use it they would need it.

Well as expected, I am cutting it down to the wire. The wedding is a week from Thursday and I still have a bit of quilting left to do. I can do the border on the trip, but I would like to have it done before hand. Baby-Boo has chosen this week to arrive (hopefully as DIL started labor today) so we will be trekking to Arizona on Wednesday night. I suppose I could do some handwork on that trip as well. I move when I am on a roll, but it is hard to get back on track when I stop.

I went to a quilt show this weekend and saw some amazing quilts. There is alot of local talent here and I'm honored that these gals are my friends.
Im so happy that Im getting my energy levels up so now Im hoping to get in my sewing room and sew sew sew!

It took me a week but I managed to get the gage correctly. I have to wait until the crown is almost finished to see if the size is correct so I had to tear it out several times to get it to fit. I am taking it to Ruby tomorrow at the onc's office.

I have a roll brim hat pattern from Lion brand yarn that is good, I just have problems with the gage. I made a swatch with the hook size on the pattern and my gage matched. When I made the hat with that hook, the hat came out about 20 inches around, I then went up 2 hook sizes and made the hat again (not making swatch) that time the hat came out 23 inches. I used the hook inbetween and the hat came out about 22 inches. I gave her the hat today and it was still slightly big, but it may shrink if she dries it in the dryer and she can thread a ribbon around the hat and draw it in some.

The dogs are running on their five acres, but no word on anything today. I worry about smoke inhalation as communications are down in many parts due to carbon build-up on power and telephone lines.
