All the dogs are doing fine.  They are somewhat interested in the new little "pup" in the house, but all in all they check him out then go about their business.

We drove around the fire ravaged area on Sunday.  Although some streets were still closed, we were amazed at how the fire had jumped around due to the winds.  Yes, many people lost their homes, but the firefighters did a great job saving so many of them.  Some houses looked untouched (I am sure they are filled with soot and smoke) but the fire had at one time completely surrounded them.

I will try and get a picture of part of it so you can see the pattern and colors better.  This quilt turned out bigger than I thought,  I was a new pattern that I had to try.

Ta Da!!! My craft room isn't organized and I'm not going to do it until we get the new flooring (laminate) down. No sense setting it up twice!!

So...my daughters 28th birthday is coming up and I just don't want to give her a gift certificate or something for the house. So I actually found, in all  my mess, a quilt top that she made as a wall hanging in one of the classes when I had my store! I am going to back it, quilt it and present it to her. I think that is so cool? Don't you? She did it about 9 years ago!!! Now she is married, has her own house and her own child. I'm hoping it will give her a great sense of achievement. I'm sure she thinks I lost it when I dismantled my store.

Oh, the ta da part was that I got DH to bring down my machine and ironing board so I can work on the diningroom table. Now I just have to find the right feet, my iron, the right colour thread, my cutting board and blade, oh and the ruler and.....sigh.

LOL Barbe........your sewing experiences are sounding like mine at the moment.  The idea for your DD's birthday is a fabulous one and I'm sure she will appreciate it.  She has probably forgotten about the top all together so I can imagine the look on her face as she opens her parcel......priceless I would guess.  Don't forget to get some pics!!!!

Barbe - What a great idea - your DD is going to be so surprised when she sees it.  Don't forget to post a pic or two of it before you wrap it up.

Jo that is very pretty. and Barbe, your dd will love the wall hanging.

I am not quilting right now. I am crocheting cotton yarn roll brim hats for the chemo patients. My mom's cousin Donna passed away last year suddenly from a stroke and she was a 'yarnaholic'. When ever she went to town, she insisted on going by 'Wertz 5&10' to purchase more yarn. She had 8-10 large storage totes of yarn some of it cotton and some of it acrylic. Her family gave it to my aunt to do with as she sees fit. My aunt works with a charity group that knits/crochets for homeless and disadvantaged families. I was able to get some of the cotton yarn for my chemo cap project (enough to make 25-30 hats). I modified a pattern I found on Lion Brand and shared it with her knitting hearts group. They will also be making chemo caps for their area (ohio). While I was on vacation with my parents, I was able to make 8 hats and I have several ladies in my area wanting to learn how to make the hats as well.

Sheila - What a wonderful idea.  I used to crochet hats for premee babies and take bags full at a time.  I could do several in a dayy.

Wow!  It's great to see you ladies haven't being idle!  I have been spending a lot of time gardening.  After five years in this house, we finally put in a permanent automatic sprinkler system in the backyard so I will need to spend less time just watering and can use the time on other fun suff, such as caring for the plants and sewing!

I dont know why I didnt find this board earlier. From the time I was diagnosed until I went to work fullt ime I was doing chemo caps, ice bag covers for tiney ice pouches to tie to the bra strap, and hand sewing MX arm pillows...I still have a bag to drop off, but it is an hour away and I only got to the ONC now. ONC group does a positive counseling thing on FRI afternoons so I sent lots of earrings - I have given hand made ones from my shop to a church to raise money and the rest went to cancer ladies who needed cheering up.I had a tub of baby yarn so the afghans last yr went to Catholic  Charities baby wellness group. Now I am working on simple bed jackets -sis took one and small afghan for her time in the recliner, neice has one too now. They are so simple to knit (just tired of crocheting) and they are just a rectangle with split front panels - I bought one at a sale for $2 and made granny squares for another one then crocheted a few...these will probably made to the ONC office in different colors for the women and men that go there.

I have trouble concentrating so school work is on hold for a while. Ok, I cannot blame this on chemo brain - I found fancy yarn I forgot I had in tubs when I moved. My sewing machine is circa 1960 but works and I have a tiney light wt one but I have not sewn in years. My neighbor's mom got one 2 yrs ago maybe I need to set up camp with her and get her sewing- rt now she does huge granny square afghans. I gave her one for their couch and it was something she could do before cataract surgery- now she hasd made 15 in 2 years plus she does those knitting looms - maybe like 20 hats and scarfs plus several shawls.. We are going to do hats for the local grade school this fall. She is 73 and can spend the whole day in her chair with the Tv on and cant remember anything, so I started her crocheting...her sons live with her are both in their 50s and go buy yarn or drag her to a craft shop to pick colors! I am so bad I have corrupted her in to hoarding yarn! But she feels better, is cooking again and getting out.

My garden is organic & between rain and heat I dont spend much time there. It has been too hot for my lawn guy ?& I told him to do it when this heat wave is gone. I only put the a/c in the bedroom this yr...the other one does 3 rooms but i cannot lift it. I have rescue cats...I have the ongoing hair puffs and hairballs glad i have all tile! Now if they could sweep n mop we would have it made!

Welcome Anumacha! Glad to hear all that you are doing for the commumity. I am currently unemployed and having fun making things to give away. I am also working on quilted pocketbooks for my church's bazaar this fall. And I don't think it is considered yarn hording if she is actually doing something with the yarn.

my sis crochets on and off...I might have several projects going but I will get them done. I donated for a friends church roof and candle/flower fund - I do not donate to them anymore because they were quite rude about the crosses being handmade I ran out of my supplies and had to substitute stiffener and beads- no they were not the same and I did not ask them to buy or give supplies. "Well they dont look the same and people will be upset " Then I had to hear about all the earrings I make are for pierced ears, and why didnt I have more crystal ones and on & on. I never went back, never gave them things to fund their causes and never got a Thank You so I donate to folks who need something to brighten a day! Quiting should count...I just hand stitch the quilt a friend gave me, so it needs hung up it is fan pattern and I would share pics but the stuff flies out if here as soon as it is done! at is chewing speaker wires and keeps checking for a movie or treats... i hid their tin again...bad momma!

anumacha, you wrote about how old your sewing machine is, my mom has a circa 1940's Singer Featherweight that she takes to quilt classes but her main machine is even older, a singer/white Treadle machine. She actually has 2 treadles, one she inherated from her mother in law and one she purchased at a yard sale in 1976 at a yard sale for $50. She has tried other machines for her everyday quilting but always goes back to the treadle.

My quilt guild is making comfort quilts for a local children's advocacy program to give to the children when they come in after suspected abuse. the guild has made about 80 so far, we will continue making them. Last year there were about 140 cases of abuse in my county and we want each child to have their own quilt to show that someone loves them.

Sheila - What a nice gesture to make comfort quilts for the children.  I have made them for children down here than barely have enough to eat and it can get cold down here in the winter - especialy if there is no heat in the house.  I have also been known to crochet hats for newborns.  I would make a whole bunch of them and then drop them off at the hospitals.

I am not a quilter.. maybe someday.  I though you'd enjoy seeing this quilt my brother found in his house.. the owner's said they didn't want it and he gave it to me 'because I liked colors'.
