I am hesitant because I feel like the off white walls accentuate the light, but they also make the room look unfinished.

Meece, rather than painting the wall, how about painting something on the wall? Or cutting designs from wall paper or even fabric and pasting them to the wall?

I just wrote a great post about getting my space back. It was about us encouraging one another with ideas for how to do that. To givew one another the courage to do it. I lost the post, dangit.

Meece, The are there tri fold shelves at Target that I have bought 4 of. They just open out at the sides and the hinged shelve falls forward. They are a good size for sewing books, accessories, tools, trims etc.

I have a book upstairs that has all my moving boxes listed by number and category with some notres as to what is inside. It isn't really easy to use, and it means digging into piles of boxes and making a bigger mess initialaly. I didn't pack us, a friend and her 16 year old daughter did because I had just had surgery.Therefore the notations have to be taken with a grain of salt.

I have projects I really want to get started on but I am messing around with the room ro make space to do the work. What is wrong with me procrastinating like this. WHen I used to do costuming I had deadlines and that lit a fire under me. These things that I want to do and I am slow as an old cow making her way up the lane.

I find it interesting that we all have the same "get organized" issues. Perhaps we all need a full size "junk drawer" room? I think for me that I'm afraid that if I actually put everything away, I'll forget I've got it. You know, those new purchases you made for a special project....if it gets put with everything else you'll forget it. And, in a way, it's fun to rediscover items when you unexpectedly run in to it while searching for the tape measure!

My latest idea is to hang a white erase board that also accepts magnets so I can list those things I want to do, or have started collecting for, so i can then can put them away. I already have some upper cabinets above my sewing table that I has foam core board covered with cotton batting (warm and natural). I use them as a pin board for patterns /fabric/great new buttons etc.

The thing I did do today was give myself permission to do nothing but sew and knit all day. It felt wonderful. But first I had to give myself permission to put away the sweater I'm almost finished knitting and just plain don't like. Working on that has been dreary and not fun.....so today I put it aside. And that's a first for me!

Ginger and I (and perhaps others of you here) frequent a thread on decluttering. May is our "Get it going" month, and we have challenged each other to make a real dent in our organization projects. My goal is to get my sewing room at least functional.

Meece, I think that is a worthy goal. I am going to join you in this getting my sewing room to a functional level. Trying to bring it to perfection would just be me shooting myself in the foot. I want to create, in my own way, in my sewing room.

Great goal Meece and Ginger. I think I'll join you in organizing, but since the builder just started today, I think my declutter goal will be to design all the storage requirements for my new studio and identify where I'll acquire those items. Feels a bit monumental, but now's the time.

I have a number of units all clipped together of wire "boxes". They are over my height and about 8 feet long. I can pile complete bolts of fabric on top (remember I had a sewing store!). Then I hae two HUGE antique tables (love old things!), one being an Amish trestle table and they are in a V in a corner. Then I have 2 large heavy drawers stacked that used to be under my threads for sale. I have 2 Ikea units that are drawers of incresing depth that start at table height and go down (in black). I also have a dark ladder bookshelf and an orange upholstered chair.

Here's what it looked like when I started. It's much more crowded now. The grayed-down yellow walls are wonderful to work it! Always a cheery room. I have some projects broken down into coloured baskets in this unit now. Found this old shot on my FB.

Barbe,great space. Thanks for posting. I love using wire baskets, but hate dusting the rails on the drawer units. Wherever is that maid when you need her? LOL

That's a nice space Barbe!

One week down of May, and my free time is always spoken for. Last night SD & FDIL came for dinner, tonight DH has us going to a friend's for a visit. And the rest of the week is focused on a Luncheon meeting I am putting on for Saturday, and a Dinner I am assisting putting on Saturday night. The kids have now decided they will put on Mother's Day dinner at my Mom's in another city, therefore we won't be home at all that day. So the last half of my month is going to be crunch time.

Years ago, as a brownie, I learned to knit and purl. And left it at that ... for forty years. While in treatment, I taught myself how to knit ("Knitting for Dummies" was invaluable) and have enjoyed myself tremendously. I've embroidered for years and am a seasoned calligrapher, and all these things have kept me sane during the last year. Oh! And I'm learning French cooking. I love all the in-season vegetables used in French cooking.

Hi Selena,

I learned to knit at age 12 and did some, then knit a bit during college. I actively picked it up about 4 years ago when a hand injury curtailed all of my other needleart work. I'm loving knitting now and like you found that knitting during my treatment and interminable Dr. appts kept me sane.

Meece, good luck with your very busy week. The parties sound like fun though. I suggest you get yourself on that calendar for a few sewing days just to reserve the time. I've been known to do that and it helps.

Yes, my avatar is a traditional hooked rug I designed and made. It makes me smile each time I look at it and it hangs in my kitchen. I'll try to figure out how to attach a larger image tomorrow when I'm not on my iPad

Well here goes. I'm not too sure about posting this as this new, revised BCO system is slow, slow, slow, but I'll try. By the way, the name of the piece is Joy Ride and I believe I used over 250 different pieces of wool, both as is and hand dyed. Hope you enjoy it.

mostly, the url way is the best way! Copy the link, then along the top of the comment box, to the left of the smiley face, is a green blob that many like to call a "tree". Click on that. Paste your url into the "image url" section, then hit "insert" at the bottom left of the box. Your image should show up in your comment box now.

Not much creating went on around here today. Played bridge with my mom(94) and her crones. Actually the game was creative, come to think of it! LOL. Now I'm off to finish my buck-a-block block so I can show it tomorrow to get my next one......

It's pretty easy. Just remember, if you delete something out of photobucket, it deletes from where ever you have posted the url.

I just started to learn to sew a couple of weeks ago. I have made two dog beds and 2 dresses. I am starting off with really easy patterns.

Yesterday I put in my first zipper. No, it doesn't look great but it was my first one so I am not going to beat myself up on it. This is why I made this dress out of white muslim so that I could learn how to do it before I screw up my really expensive fabric.

When I was in my 20's I swore that I would never be that "old fart" behind a sewing machine and here I am and loving every minute of it!
