I would really love to see some of your work barbe.  It really is nice to see the gals who have been doing this a lot longer then me a taste of what I could achieve later on in my sewing adventures.

Well I've picked a quilt for my mom that has about 400 small pieces, what was I thinking?  I know she'll love it, but man did it ever suck cutting all those tiny pieces.  Let alone now I've got to sew them.  But once it's together, and my mom see's it, that will be the point that it's all worth it!

    Barbe,

I think I scored a 7.9 on my show jumping yesterday. Sounds to me like you've gotten at least a 9.5 on your beading....and I see you've joined the FENCING team also...way to go! Yep, we need pictures.

Today I did the CRAWL. 200 meters. Got breathless, LoL. I worked on the sashing for my quilt, had to "crawl" back to the beginning since I didn't like plan one, but have done a great, fast turn, and now am headed home as I like my new arrangement. Course, that's only the first 100meters, as I've got a block to finish and about 10 more connectors.

Paula, I always have wondered why I'm taking 7 yards of material and cutting it up to sew back together to make 3 1/2 yards. It's fun though. I don't count how many little pieces there are, too daunting. Your Mom will love the quilt you're doing for here...

    Ok.....back to the 100m Fly......

I only got a partial score on the FENCING as it was a first attempt. But I think I made it through the trials.

I competed yesterday with my roller skating over the wall of my sewing room.  Three laps have been completed, but there will be more to come.  I am trying out the paint which makes your wall magnetic.  I thought it would be a cool thing to do.

Ooh Meece, Do let us know about the paint. Can you also write on it? I've decided I need a organization board that I can make lists on, and attach pieces of fabric or patterns. The paint might be perfect.

Today I didn't compete but did do some sightseeing. Went to SF deYoung museum and saw the Gaultier fashion exhibit. He's a clothing designer from the 50's thru today and some of his work is quite something.

Tomorrow it's back to competition for me. Maybe the power block sewing, or maybe the marathon knitting event.

Barbe, glad you made it thru the fencing trials...

    Ladies!

Been MIA for a while...life, blah blah blah......

Completed a red, white & blue wall hanging for Fourth of July; that turned out surprisingly well. I learned how to make small muslin corners to insert tiny dowels to make it easy to hang, and hang straight.

Took a Free Motion Quilting class on Tuesday. It was NOT relaxing. I'm pretty good on an Etch-A-Sketch; free motion - not so much.Undecided Oh, well, it was my first time trying it.

Now our other class is doing a "Fun & Done" project (quilt-as-you-go). At first I considered making a potholder, but my friend convinced me to make at least a table runner. I don't like to take on too much!!! Wink

I just found out my Exchange Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd....and the PS says NO USING ARMS for two weeks. So I guess I'd better get my butt in gear to finish that runner.

I'll post some pics if that ever happens.

    Love reading everyone's ideas!!!

Wow! Barbe you put in a great show yesterday. And, Blessings, you are one busy lady!

I did cycling yesterday.  First work, then commute, to putting primer on my magnet wall, then watering the garden/feeding the fish, and finally dinner preparation and dining.  Today I'll do some cross country as we head south to an Aquatic plant nursery.  One thing I've noticed is my Olympics doesn't come around only once in four years and itstays longer than a couple of weeks.

I did some more beading yesterday but the needle has broken through my thimble enough that I have to consider getting a metal one...I do bleed on my best work though!!!

I have sent Chrissy some pictures, so hopefully you'll see some of it soon!

    News just in from Barbe!

Ladies, I have FINALLY worked out the camera!!! The first pic will be the inspiration picture I took last year on a walk. Then I have an overall shot and then some details. It is fabric gessoed over a painters canvas (already stretched) and then bead and fabric play over the top. I had to lay in the top fencing just to get an idea of scale and so I could do the spider web. Enjoy!!

The last pic I had to include as it's our last cat. I don't normally take inside shots so I don't know how this cat knew about cameras (probably in the DNA just like can-openers!) but she came and posed while Paul was showing me how to open the card slot! I had to take the pic.... didn't I? hehehehee

Kind of cool to be sending pictures off to Portland, Oregon and Burra, SA Australia!!!

    Love Barbe

Sorry they are so large but for some reason when I resized my stupid computer wouldn't let me save the new image.....grrrrr!  At least we get a good look at the detail.....Barbe they are beautiful!

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

Chrissy thank you for posting Barbe's work.

Barbe this is wonderful, I can't wait to see it as it progresses along. I especially like the little blooms. Pleasr do not post them any smaller. I can see them well at this size. I find myself thinking about what material you will use to fill in some areas or to populate various stalks.  What do you call this kind of wqork that you do? I think it is more than, and different than, crewel embroidery.

This piece brings to mind some tiny, very old, jet beads that I had long ago.

    Carry on,

    Ginger

Thanks Chrissy for posting. Barbe, this is just wonderful. Great fiber art. How do you adhear the material on top of the guessed fabric? More gesso? I'm excited to see this as it progresses. Got any other pieces you've done, now that you've figured out the camera?

Today, I had an Olympic celebratory lap, alas....not my own! I attended the 100th birthday party for a rug hooking friend. She joined our group at age 96.. Sharp as a tack, lives alone and other than very hard of hearing is still going strong. Something to strive for....

Thanks for posting Chrissy!!!! For some reason the top photo is backwards, have no idea how I did that...hmmm. Anyway, you guys get the idea. Anything added now gets sewn on. I do see that area of ripple that I'm going to have to be creative with. I will be doing things over these background layouts, the fence and other plant life will overlap some of what I've already done but that is to make it more realistic...like beads are realistic in nature!!!

The picture of the cat is blurry as she moved towards the camera as I took the picture. How do they know???? We never fed our cats canned cat food and yet whenever we opened a can of spaghetti sauce or something, they'd all come running!!!! WHY???

OOoh Meece, you posted while I was typing!!! BEAUTIFUL!! Why do they cover the ponds? Evaporation??? Are you buying new plants for your koi?? I could so do that top flower in fabric!!! This is where I get my inspiration..from nature!

I didn't even think to ask why the ponds were covered unless the extra heat and humidity  helps their growth.  While standing in the doorways it was like getting a steam facial.  I am not kidding you, they had to be over 130 degrees in there!  I am developing a water garden pond and my plants will not be in with my koi.  Koi tend to like to eat roots of water plants and I don't want to fuss with that.  DH is agreeable that we make a water garden in one of our front flower beds.

I don't usually toot my own horn, but Eph told me to...

Last month one of our little koi had been entered into a "people's choice" contest for the Associated Koi Clubs of America". Each club in America (and Canada) was allowed to enter one picture of a koi into the contest.  Our little guy won the opportunity for our club, and lo and behold, he won the national competition!

Maybe he deserves a bouquet of lilies in his pond, but no.

CONGRATS!!!! You absolutely should toot your own horn!!! Who else will let us know unless you do. That is a VERY beautiful koi, as kois go, Meece!! Well set off against the blue of the bucket, too...ehehhehehehe

Meece that little koi is beautiful. I can see why it won. Congrats! Those pics of the waterlillies are amazing and I agree with Barbe on the inspiration thing. Those flowers would make a fabulous wall hang.

Barbe - love your beautiful mixed media project! Are you saying that you'll be sewing through the painter's canvas and the gesso for additional decorations? Yeowch! I'll bet you DO need a new thimble!

I was thinking the same thing about the lighting in the last water lily pic.

I have been sewing through the canvas and gesso already and have often needed pliers!! But I think it will be so worth it as the textures build up.

Meece, you really should get that last picture printed!! On canvas maybe...

    Becky in Dec. 2010

I am Becky's husband Mike.  It is with great sadness that I inform all of you of her passing.  She left peacefully in her sleep early Monday morning.   With the support of this board and the hope provided we knew we were going to prevail, but unfortunately the damage done was too great for her to recover.

With her love of stitching, tatting and crochet this became one of her favorite threads.

In my community we recognize that all of you fight every minute of every day, and that makes you warriors.  We are deeply honored to recognize and to associate with such warriors.

It is my greatest wish that all of you will prevail.

    Mike,

I'm so sorry to hear of Becky's passing. She was a valiant fighter and so generous to others. I know she cherished your support and how sensitive you were to her plight. I can see that in your loving note to us. My heart goes out to you and your family. We'll miss her.
