Placing this edit here also so you can see it.

Please blame the following two sentences on codeine cough syrup.   I certainly did not mean that the way it sounds. " I like important events to have a scale that is doable. I blame it on the Bridal magaznes with their wacko lists of things to buy and do."

I apologise if anyone felt offended by what I wrote. I think the work you all do on behalf of your families is wonderful. I thinnk you are creative, industrious and the kind of mom's and aunties that anyone would be proud of.   I sincerely apologise  for my ill thought our statement. Seriously it was the codeine cough syrup.

    Love Ginger

Ginger - I personally took no insult. Many magazines drive me wacko even DIY Lowe's. Blame it all on Martha Stewart. LOL. I'm sure my DH will encourage DD to elope in the unforseen celestial event she finds someone meeting her standards. Lord knows he tried to get me to elope and we had a teeny wedding.

    No offense taken.

Yes, Eph, our Matt is getting married Sept 21st.  Last night we went to a singing program for the after school program his fiance's children attend at the church she works at and that they will be married at.  We spent time afterward walking around the area outside that the ceremony will take place.  FDIL is really flexible and we have the seating and ceremony site planned now.

The invitations are almost done.  Things are moving along.

Love the quilt, Alyson.  I love the colors.

I have managed to cut about 200 squares and now having a break as my LE arm is quite sore. This quilt has to be done so I can take it to Canada in September.

Good luck with the wedding planning Meece. We are just getting over one - DS was married3 weeks ago.

Must go and remove my cutter as the littlies are about to arrive.

I don't like the cutting part at all, maybe because I'm still not very good at it. The woman who teaches my class used to be a kit cutter for a big specialty fabric store. I was in awe when she cut our borders & sashing for us in the beginning class so they would be accurate. She laid out all the fabric for all eleven of us in one stack & cut them all at one shot.

Eph, I would love it if you wanted to do an auntie crash.  DS son doesn't think many people will be here on "his side".  My family is sparse.  On my mother's side I have four "second-cousins" and my 99+ year old aunt, the rest of the family that I personnally knew are gone.  What's left of my father's side is all in Arizona and my brother's step daughter is getting married the same day so they will be supporting my brother.  Of course I will have my kids and their families, and some friends but DS spent nearly 7 years in the military so his friends are all over the world.

Melissa, I hear you about the cutting.  Man your instructor must have a sharp cutter and a strong arm!

Hi Ladies, I'm looking around for another thread to hang out on and saw this one. I love looking at your projects and pictures.

I'm not that great of knitter but I can embroider! .... mainly looking for a place to just hang and have fun, and not scroll through pages of side effects, drug reactions, aches & pains. This sounds like I'm not sympathetic, but actually I am very much so - just need a break and someplace lighter. I love to hear about weddings and families, quilting, gardening and all the good things in life. Just finished my surgeries and want to talk about something else for a change! Am I in the right place?

Here's a picture of a haku table lei I made for a wedding last summer:

ShellShine - Love that table lei and the table too.  Is the table made out of Koa wood?  My DD & SIL lived in Kuaui for about 3 years. (DGD was born there)  SIL was a resort manager.  He found a "missionary's rocker" made of Koa wood and sent my DH a book of Koa wood furniture.  My DH made 2 of them from wood I brought home with me.  They are the most treasured furniture we own.  DH has become a skilled woodworker since his retirement.  The last time we were in Hawaii, Koa wood wasn't available.

My stitching consists of quilt making.  Currently finishing up 50 lap quilts for a sick kids' camp.  My DGD should be able to teach me how to post photos, cuz I don't have a clue.

Shell - would love to see your embroidery.

Shellshine, for now your pictures will need to be hosted on another site, such as Photobucket or Flickr, Facebook, or the space your ISP provides. Once the picture is there you can post it in threads, and/or in your biography here on BCO. There are instructions in the Help section from the blue menu, and let us know if you need help.

We love to see the creative work everyone does too!  Smile

Jan, I live in the country so the reception is in a tin shed behind a small Italian restaurant so there are huge beams and posts within the structure. We will be stringing tiny fairy lights to create a starry night filled look and supply the soft lighting that my DD wants for atmosphere. From the large posts we will be stringing the dream catchers so the ones with beads and crystals will catch the light and at the end of the night they will be given as the wedding favours to each family or couple.

The rest of the decor is black linen cloths with an ivory lace runner on each and the chairs will be dresses with a length of tulle passed over the top rung of the back, gathered and fastened with a hand made organza rose. The tables will be dressed with 1950's lustre vases filled with fresh flowers in soft pastels and tea light candles will be held in crystal dishes and glasses scattered between the vases. We're hoping that the candle light will bounce off the cut crystal and add to the magic. Her primary colours are black, ivory and deep rose pink almost bordering on crimson.

Wow, so much for such a simple question.......lol......but hopefully you can get a picture in your head of what we are trying to achieve.

Chrissy - Wow!  That sounds absolutely beautiful.  And lots of your handiwork.  Labor of love, for sure.  My DD#2 was first to marry - in a university chapel with reception in our former backyard.  DD#3 married next at our new and uncompleted house during a snow storm.  DD #1 and SIL married in a city hall and called us afterwards.  All three had weddings of their choosing and very little for me to do.  We live in the woods and I thought we'd have a beatiful outdoor wedding, but it didn't happen.

    Enjoy your stitching. J

Shiela, Lowes sells snake hooks?   What kind of snake?  Bears across the way is one thing but snakes is a whole another for me!

    Chrissie the wedding sounds beautiful!

Ginger, assuming Lowes sells snake hooks, it was just a constictor, either racer or young Indigo, Made the mistake of letting furbaies sniff, dini lunged got the tail. OHWELLLLL. thrown off to the back lot with lots of vegetation. Poor snake when I threw him, it was meant for the thicket. His head hit the shed. No tail, head thump, hope he made it.

Have a stiching project for anyone interested. I call it a Christmas Tree Dress, will hold  story as why it came to be. It is. The tree remains ornamated. The covering is a sateen fabric. The sticthing is ballroom style Austrian. Room of tree and coverup is victorian ti 40's stuff. Not sure if the sateen has a dust reflector, but dust is not a problem, i shake it once a year at Thanksgiving. When Season starts, I untie the dress, rotate it around, there are two hooks in the back to hold the dress, plus one to hold the tree. All are fishing line.

When the fun goes out of dressing the tree, But you want the tree dressed, the above works sassy

Here's a question for y'all: I lucked into a used Janome Memory Craft 6600 Professional sewing machine since my little low-end Kenmore was not up to some of the quilting things I wanted to do. It has the large extension table. Is the table more helpful for piecing than the actual quilting? I seem to be hanging folds of fabric up on the front corners of the table when I am trying to feed the quilt sandwich through the machine.
