Congratulations Meece. She's lovely. I'm envious with Barbe (Gma to 4 boys).

Gma to four boys here as well but I wouldn't swap them for the world and after having two girls myself I'm loving having the boys.

I had three boys (l lost my daughter 27 years ago), our first two grandchildren were boys, now a girl.  Yes I have one granddaughter  marrying into the family, but this is the first baby girl in our family in 23 years!

    I wouldn't take a million

Mel, you have a GREAT eye for colour!!! Well done, sweetie!! Can't wait to see the squares in action. Make sure you spread the green through all the squares to balance the quilt.

The green background daisies are for the back, and since it is a wall hanging quilt & I like the fabric so much I may save it for something else & just buy some white for the backing. I'll use the green to point up the "eyes" in the yellow print & with the blue on the "ocean waves " block.

Mel, I used to "waste" nice fabric on the back, too. Then I bought plain muslin. It's cheaper. Some people will say to buy ugly fabric, but I just can't make myself do it!

I also put plain muslin on the back of my larger quilts. I will put coordinating fabric on the back of my wall hangings because people turn over the corner to look at my label with the story behind the wall hanging. Although on the wall hanging I made for my grandmother's 95th birthday made out of ladies hankies that belonged to her sister-in-law and mother-in-law (from the 30's), I put a piece of bleached feed sack for the backing that came from my grandmother's estate.

One lady in my guild made a child's twin size quilt with a Dora the Explorer panel in the middle and patchwork fabrics around the edge, on the back she pieced it with large pieces of fabrics (not childish) so the quilt would be around long after the girl outgrew Dora the Explorer. We thought it was a good idea in that case to use the fancy fabrics on the back.

Oh, I like pretty fabric on the back of bed quilts that get used as blankets, but I think a plain calico would do for this class quilt.

    The fabrics are great, Melissa.

I am bummed out.  I went to my fabric stash to find some girly fabric to make a sunsuit for Lala.  I don't have anything girly.  Most of my quilting has been done in gender nuetral or earthtones.  I will have to make a trip to the fabric store for some girly things.  I just can't bring myself to put a baby in dull colors.

Meece, what a pretty girl! See, she's grimacing at the very IDEA of dull clothes!

I agree, she needs bright clothing.  So, when the stash gets dull, the stashee goes shopping!

Meece, you are bummed out at the prospect of going fabric shopping. No, no, tell me it's not true!  I know you are just teasing, fabric shopping is one of lifes pleasures.

Martha Pullen has some nice fabrics for childrens clothing with ribbons and trim that coordinate in her online store. Your Granddaughter is adorable, you will have so much fun sewing for her!

Yes, I am teasing!  I had already picked out a few little girl/baby patterns when they were on sale for $1 recently.  I just didn't buy fabric because we didn't know if the baby was a girl.

While in AZ I painted black birch trees on the nursery walls and then owls that match the ones on the quilt.  I finished quilting the quilt yesterday and need only to hand stitch the binding on it.  I waited to see the gender before I decided which color to use for the binding.  My parents will be heading that way on Tuesday, so I can send a package down with them.

Made one little sunsuit outfit for Lala to send with my parents as well.

Thanks.  I painted "four" trees and eight owls.  Only two trees are floor to ceiling.  One branch come from behind a wall unit and one from over the door.

I love the way childrens rooms are decorated now.  It really does stimulate the little ones and gets their llittle brains working overtime.  Great for learning.

Thank you.  DH was showing baby pics at work yesterday and someone asked him how much I'd charge to paint a room.  Hmmmm something to think about.

I need to get going on the quilt!  I will post pics when I finish it.
