This is just a small version of a wrap I've done.

And these are some of the ribbon roses I've done.

Oops!  Maybe I should have resized that one....lol

The knitting is done with 2ply silk and is so light that it feels like a piece of gossomer.  The roses are the first time I've made them.  The large dark one is organza ribbon and the other three are satin ribbon.  They are all different depending on how tightly I've wrapped and where I placed the 'petal'.

Meece, your mural painting is wonderful!  What a lucky Grandbaby you have.  You are so talented, thanks for posting the photos.

Chrissy, the wrap you knitted is lovely, so beautiful. Your ribbon roses are pretty, your silk ribbon embroidered ones will be amazing.

I am surrounded by inspiration here. Love it

Meece, you are so talented!  Beautiful.

Chrissy, the wrap and roses are lovely.  I keep hearing about the ribbon embroidery.  I need to look into it.

Have any of you ever done hairpin lace?  I remember a neighbor teaching me that as a child/early teen but I have no memory of how it works, besides using the two needle "loom" thing.

Melissa I've never done the hairpin lace but I'd sure like to try it.   I love trying new things.......it keeps me out of mischief.....lol

Is it like Tatting? My Grandma did tatting, I think it involved a hairpin. I have pillow cases where it is the trim. A real keepsake for me.

I just watched a video on YouTube on how to do the hairpin lace strip......facinating!  Mmm....another thing for me to try for sure!

Ginger, it is actually more a different crochet technique than tatting.  Here's the Wikipedia link.  There are lots of Youtube videos.

Melissa - I seem to remember my mother doing hairpin lace. She actually had a contraption built upright that swivilled. Don't remember what she made with it. Crochet is not my thing. BTW - my Christmas crochet ornaments are just where they came from Amazon. I need LONG spell of rainy weather which is not in Texas this time of year. Wish we would to get out of the drought.

Meece - You are a very talented painter as well as very crafty other ways. I'm sure LaLa will grow up to love her room.

Chrissy - Is the silk wrap part of DD's wedding ensemble?

Luvmygoats, I have made both of my girls a wrap as a keepsake........I'm not sure if they will use them in the wedding or not. maybe later in the evening they will want something around their shoulders. Even though they feel like gossamer they are actually very warm.

Can I join your thread?  I've sewn since I was a little girl.  Although I used to knit and crochet, the arthritis in my shoulder prevents me from doing it anymore (unless I want to be in agony, which isn't high on my list...).  I do a lot of fabric dyeing (mostly silk).  And though I've threatened to quilt, I haven't done any of it yet - I have started 2, but never got to the actual quilting part.  I'm still working full time but once I actually get retired (later this year), I'm hoping to pick up more crafts again.

Welcome Garden Gumby!  There are lots of talented people here, helpful and interesting. All stages of experience too!  I quilted once many years ago, some folks here do it often and one even had her own shop.  I prefer clothing sewing or even decorative. I did costuming about 15 years ago, if you need to look like a tree, see me.

    Thank you everyone!

Jan, it is 52 x 52. It is a wall hanging.

I have to confess..I cheated. I could not get the machine-pieced Lemoyne Star to work, so I took the whole thing apart & hand-pieced it. I WILL NOT be doing a lot of those any time soon. What a pain in the butt!

I guess I am getting a little more confident in what I'm doing because I'm already dreaming of what fabrics to make myself a bed quilt, bed skirt & curtains from.

Everybody else in class has been doing neutrals, or more-or less solid colors of batiks. Or black, white & red. Mine kind of stand out:)

I actually like some of the more dramatic quilts with black + brights, but I want to use (and wash) mine for years & years & black fades ugly.

Well done Melissa, your blocks are stunning and will look even better with your sashing.....very eye catching. Can't wait to see it all put together.

Started the ribbon embroidery yesterday, just the trials, so I can get used to handling the fine ribbon. I think I. Going to have to see if I can get a bit of tuition so I'll check out the big craft centre in the city and see if they run classes. I need to learn some of the finer points that you just can't get out of a book....lol.

Meece how cute!  The owls have their own personalities.

Melissa are you sure you are a beginner?  Good work!

Chrissy have you tried any on-line videos? The best part is that you can rewind over and over. Good luck, I bet you will just be wonderful at this.

DGD coming to spend the afternoon. :)

Melissa - your blocks are beautiful!  I love all the vibrant colors much more than the use of so many neutrals.  That takes real courage to step up and be yourself and by all means stand out!  You are doing so great and learning so fast.  I wish I had an eye for colors that you seem to have.  Outstanding work, you rock it girl.

Meece - love the painted walls and the finished quilt. Lala or Ayla is such a lucky little doll to have you for a grandma.  She is going to grow up spoiled and the best dressed girl around town!  Congratulation of the new little cutie pie.  Enjoy every minute you can get with her, they grow up so very fast.  Don't blink or she will be a little girl the blink again and she will be a teenager!  I still cannot believe that my oldest granddaughter is 13 and in my mind she should only be about 5!

Chrissy - I used to do hairpin lace for the baby blankets I would crochet for my grandchildren.  It is not hard at all, if I can do it anyone can do it. Watch a YouTube video or 2 and you will see how easy it is.

Joy and blessings to all you crafty ladies.  AJ

Meece the finished quilt is a wonder......just beautiful!  I'm sure Lala will have many happy hours in her crib talking to those wise owls.......lol.

AJ I have watched a few and I thinkI have the technique down.......lol......I just need to get a frame and that may have to be from your neck of the woods as I've never seen them here.  If I knew someone that was handy, I may be able to get one made but I can't think of anyone that can work that precisely.

Thank you for the complements.  Patch is still having some meltdowns over the new intruder, but they aren't anything like the first few.

If I don't get called in to work today, I plan on making the window valance so it gets in my parents car tomorrow for transport to AZ.  I wish I were there to see it all put together.  I wish I'd taken a pic of the outfit I made.  Hopefully I will get one of her in it.  I think  I will make a pillow case from some of the remnants from Patch's quilt since he will be moving to a big boy bed soon.

The owls were designed by Christopher Brown.  I just took my color scheme and ran with it.

Meece, A friend visited her new DGD and while Mother was out, dressed the baby in every outfit she had sent and took a picture. Didn't ever tell her DD.

Wren - That is the cutest story. I still have a few things my MIL sewed for my DD. She also loved to paint and quite good. Painted Winnie the Pooh on a jumper. My DM sewed for me until about high school when she went back to work. My mother painted as well but MIL was better. DD inherited some talent from them.

Meece - I did counted cross stitch and gave a few pieces away without taking pictures. At least you can track your handiworks down. Have you heard anything about the fulltime job?

Melissa - I love your color choices too. Though I do have a fondness for black/white. If I could start house over that would be what I would do. Love those pastoral scenes, can't ever remember the name, sheep/shepherd.

Elisimo - how is your granddaughter doing?
