I haven't been on in a while and I agree with everyone, Chrissie your work is great!.

I have been working on items for our Church Bazaar that will be in October. My sister-in-law gave me a book she found at the Dollar Tree of Pretty little purses and pouches. She knows I love sewing small bags. I just finished up a 'bling sling' to carry jewelry when traveling. first picture is bling sling rolled up.

Bling sling unrolled, zipper pocket for pins, pocket for necklaces, and roll in middle to put your rings on (with snap to hold in place.

My sister makes bridal and prom gowns and said she will give me some scrap satins to make this out of as well so your jewelry will be carried in style. I didn't want to try the satin first.

Chrissy I cannot wait to see the results once they are in place for the wedding.

Sheila, I love the bling sling.  I had one for years, ironically it was in the lavendar color scheme as well.

Thanks for all the compliments. I just picked out three prints that went together well for my first one. Like any good quilter, I have a nice stash to pick my colors from. I didn't put anything to indicate size with it, like a ruler, but it is about 10" x 6". I will get with my sister this weekend for the satins and silk brocade scraps she has and see what I can come up with. If I had an embroidery machine and knew who would buy them, I would put initials or their name on the outside to personalize it (like the 31 bags) before sewing it together. I may make the ring roll out of a different fabric than the lining so it stands out more and put med to heavy weight interfacing in the middle in addition to the batting to help it lay flat.

Hi all just popping in to say that I nearly murdered DH today - well couldn't because he was at work. Had put all my patches in neat piles on my cutting board on the dining room table cause  its easier to sew big things there. Now I know I hadn't used them but the other night he decides he wants to sit at that end of the table so he can see the TV. So pushes the piles of fabric, gets yelled at. Today I spent hours resorting my pieces so I can sew them in order. Oh well. Hopefully will get it all together tomorrow then the fun starts putting the layers together. It is so big. Will take a picture as soon as I get it sown.

Chrissy - the wedding is going to be gorgeous with all the beautiful work you are doing.  We do love our daughters don't we.  Hope your hands are doing better as I am sure you have finished the last table runner by now.  By the way, thanks for the call and message.  Whenever I think to call you back it is the middle of the night for you.  Anyway it made me feel better just to hear your voice.

Shelia - the bling sling will be a big seller for you so make lots of them.  I made something similar last year only I used clear vinyl on the inside so you could see what was in the pockets and put hooks on the top edge of the inside pocket to keep necklaces from getting tangled into a big knot at the bottom of the pocket.  Sorry I don't have any picture to show you, but on the back of the inside of the pocket I put the little hooks from hook and eye sets just below the where the zipper went across. If that makes any sense.  When you unzipped the pocket you could easily loop the necklace over the hook as you dropped it into the pocket.  Yours looks so much softer than mine and I like the color purple too.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.  AJ

Meese, Hi, you said you'd like to see a picture of the christmas tree dress. My computer and laptop aren't communicating. Plus I'm not good at posting pics. BUT today on STFU Chevy posted a pic of a bathroom. The drape in the bathroom is an Austrian shade I believe it's called.

    http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/31/topic/797503?page=294#idx_8815

The Xmas dress has this type of shirring. Not sure if I'm using the right words. It's closes at the back by overlapping. At the top, the sewing is similar to any curtain. I originally thought of using a needlepoint/crosstitch/crewl ring, but then decided not too. Forget why. Then I was going to thread a tie made of the same material, but then decided not too. Forget why. The cover hangs off clips from the ceiling. Originally wanted to have someone make a hanging thingy out of iron. Multiple different designs in mind, but never could find a smithy to do it. The gal that sewed it for me cut the material in triangles. Out of the length of fabric for each panel she was able to get two triangles. The narrow ends of the triangles were sewn together with the seams continuing down to the wide end of the triangle.  This saved from losing any material. Then the shirring pieces were added over the tops of the seams. This way when the strings were shirred the seams can't be seen.

There are ten panels. I think we had to adjust and add a couple more panels b/c it didn't cover the circumference at the bottom. As I was counting the panels just now, I noticed the two front panels are wider than the back panels.  The two front panels have shirring strips up the middle of each panel. The tree is a 6 foot tree. That's really specific to try and give another sewer a pattern. NOT. Sorry.

She told me later she was ready to kill me, when I said we had to add more shirring strips to make the "whateveryoucallit" go higher. The shirring goes up about 60-70% to the top. I bought material--bridal lace to design a top that was going to be dyed a few shades lighter than the green satin dress. I liked the dress just the way it was and never have gotten around to doing this. May be someday. Dress is about 10-12 y/o now. Underneath the tree is fully decorated and lights in place. At Thanksgiving , I rotate the dress around behind the tree and hold it in place with a chain. Hooks for the chain are about 18 inches apart. The dress drapes behind the tree. The tree is moved about a foot or so forward. Takes about 15 minutes to do.

Ah hah- remembered why I diverted from the tie and ring idea. Dress was too heavy to just let it rest on tree top. The solution was to hang it off the 4 clips on a chain from the ceiling.

My friend was still my friend after the project was done LOL. She's an expert sewer, but  I was making this all up as we went along. She was frustrated until she was able to visualize what the end product was going to be. She did start the sewing with a clear idea of the end product. That's how she came up with the idea of the triangles to save on fabric. Hope you can visualize it now too :) sassy.

Alyson, LOVE seeing you in your zone!!!!

SAS, so you leave your tree out year-round, but covered with the fabric when it's not to be lit??? Isn't that a pretty big mass of shirring? I'd rather see the tree ALL year! I LOVE Christmas lights....sigh!!!

Hi Barbe, no it's quite lovely. Looks like a ballroom dress. That's why I call it a dress versus cover. We only use the living room at Christmas. Once son was grown it was easier. The room is victorian. The tree is in the corner. The walls are a darker teal. Accent wall is muted barn red. Another wall is soft white with a shade of pink. No one would now it though. The color was called mushroom. The colors were chosen for the holiday season. The tree works on so many levels. Looks right, color is a blue green satin, but deeper than walls. A nice flow in same color field, but there's a contrast.  It works with the walls. Bow window has a sewing dress form with my wedding dress which is a simple unbleached muslin in an 1890's style. Crossed the sleeves at the wrist. I have my wedding wide brimmed straw hat with a red ribbon that trails, pinned just below the lace at the wrists.. A small posey of red flowers at the wrist. Furniture from 1880's till 1940's. Old artifacts. Rarely when little ones have come during the year, I do rotate the dress around. :) With surprises beneath it. Nice to see you:) sheila

To all, we all have discussed chemo/ anethesia brain. We now can call it anesthesia/chemo/drug brain. This article is in AARP magazine. It discusses the drug classifications that can cause memory loss. It describes why each drug class can cause memory loss. It gives specific names of drugs. It gives alternative drugs that can be substituted. I would suggest reviewing it with your prescribing doc if you have concerns regarding any of your meds. I also suggest you put it in your favorite places on your computer. Also, printing it off for future referrence if you have a printer. Please, pass this on to other BCO friends, friends etc. ;) sassy

    I wish mine would recover.

I had an MRI yesterday and felt like I was a pincushion.  Actually I thought they were using uphostery needles to start the IV line.  I had an ER nurse try 4 times including getting doctor's orders for a try in my foot.  When she failed, I had an IR nurse try in the fatty part of my my hand, the side between my pinkie and wrist, that failed so I finally conceded to let her use my left arm.  First time in nearly 10 years I have lest anyone touch that arm.

I think I stressed out too much because I have such a headache today.
