    ....or a husband's party!

Thanks for the ideas and encouragement. First.... need to get that junk room organized. I finish my Nurse Practitioner program in one week, so no excuses after that!

Making a wedding haku table lei right now, taking a break. The bride's colors are teal and coral (!?!), will post a picture later.

Meece - we posted at the same time, but you beat me! I love that form.

Shells, The pattern companies have a dress pattern meant for fitting. I bought the one for fitting pants years ago. It said to cut it out in gingham check so you can tell when it's hanging straight. It also had extra material so you could let out or take in. I think it had about 8 pages of instructions. (If it wrinkles here, do this, then do that) It was worth every penny and all the work when I discovered that I need to add 1/4" to the crotch length. I would never have guessed it (I was 5'4" then and am 5'2" now). Turns out I have a long body with little short arms and legs.

For those of you wanting a dress form, on Thursday as part of their one-day anniversary specials, Joann's has Singer dress forms marked down to $99.99 from a regular price of $250, in-store only.

Melissa, each time I have gone into the fabric store of late I browse very slowly along the aisle that has the dress forms with all their easy adjusting knobs and dials.....lol. The dress form I have is one from the early sixties and is getting to the point of falling apart and what adjustables were there are no longer adjustable........sigh.

Sadly, I would need one with lots of adjustments as my weight is so up & down.

I saw the ad and am drooling too. Maybe you could keep track of which adjustments go with which weight. Then you would know exactly how to change it easily. DH keeps saying he'll do the duct tape thing, but never says he'll do it today. Wonder if it will adjust for a curved back.

I think I'm going to have to make a perfect fit for mine.........you cover your form with calico and then with wadding build it to your shape and measurements fix the wadding with spray glue and then cover it with calico once again. A zipper can be put in the layer closest to the form so it can be removed easily.

I spend about 30 minutes a day looking at dress patterns on-line.

My husband is disabled and I have a mountain of chores to get caught up on since I lost my job, went to school and got breast cancer all in the past 12 months. Finished school over a week ago and can't get off my butt! Doing a little job hunting, need to get moving!

Shellshine, I'm job hunting too!!! I didn't get a new edu-mication but am thrown back into the work force just as dumb as when I left it...sigh. I'm looking for sales as that's the best way to make what I'm worth. No degree here. What are you looking for??

I do undertand your surfing the net as it's SO much more interesting than seeing great jobs posted that you don't have the qualifications for. Who new I'd want to be a chemist???

Me three. My hours got cut to part-time not long before my ovarian cancer & for a while I was at the docs too much to consider a new job. Now I'm on six month f/u and our office is going to move early next year & my boss is going to semi-retire. It would be way too far to drive for part-time anyway. Time to join the real world again.

I have to confess...I spent my birthday money on fabric. Twirl & Savonnerie fat quarter bundles.

I got a summer job and really miss my down time.  DH likes me where he is doing what he likes, so I haven't sewn at all lately.  I found a cute "hamper" for Lala's room with a little owl embroidered on pink canvas.  It works so well I couldn't just sew it myself for the price.

Hey Barbe - I was a school junkie after I worked for 2 yrs as a waitress in the late 70's. Got a nursing degree, then 2 grad degrees in nursg and public health at 26. Worked 7 yrs as a nurse, 5 as a Nurse Practitioner, and 23 as a Supervisor, laid off due to budget cuts last year with 10 months severance pay. Retired with full medical  and went back for 2 semesters to get a "Post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate" - finished a week ago! Got diagnosed with BC last January, a week before the pediatrics rotation started, so it was an intense time. I spent this past May - July  finishing up my internship in pediatrics this summer - planning to work as a Hospice NP - the job market is pretty tight, and at age 58, it's interesting to be job hunting!

Bottom line: life is too precious to waste being unhappy. It is what it is. Yes, I'm a lazy butthead lately, but it's okay. My new motto is "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

We had a hurricane heading our way to Hawaii but it has been downgraded to a tropical storm (Flossie), so battening down the hatches. We're expecting winds 40 - 60 mph. Got plenty of water, batteries and food!

Post Master sounds like you'd work at a postal office!!! See, now, you've got creds to work off. I didn't get a career as I started my family really young. Glad I did, but now I would be getting wages that I made 30 years ago if I didn't think out of the box! Sales makes me my own boss. As hard as I work, the more I get paid. It's worth it.

Meece - good luck with getting the dress form for your anniversary.  I can tell my husband that I want "X" and still will be lucky to get that instead of something else....  :)

I'm not complaining.  I get good presents, too.  He's a prince.  I wonder if he tells me and I misunderstand and get him something else instead, too....  Innocent

My DH used to do GREAT gifts as we had a fabulous lingerie store in town!! Then we moved and he never did the lingerie thing again....Cry...now I have nothing to linger on......sigh.....Embarassed   So we just let each other know what we are buying ourselves!! We do try to be with each other during the purchase and support the decision. It's just as fun as we get what we really want and the other person gets to watch our pleaseure. Saves on wrapping paper, too!

About to go for a walk and find some coffee then its back to put up the sewing machine and get patching as well as hem a couple of things I want to bring to Canada and the US.

Well girls these are the hearts that will form the overlay on the train of the brides dress.

And this is what the table runners will look like.

I'm getting there......lol.  The runner takes me about six hours to fussy cut a 12 mtre length of lace........2 down one to go!

Barbe that could easily be done and a nice thought.........I'll speak to DD after the wedding a see if she would like that done. Thanks for the idea.

I am working on the last of the table runners and am about two thirds done........I'm actually looking forward to getting them finished as they are really hard on my hands........just as well I love the girl as I don't think I would volunteer to do this for anyone else......lol.

Glad you all like what I have been doing.
