Lago, been off board for awhile - sorry to see this weird ear thing going on with you & will check in later to read what your doc says about it.

Wanted to ask if anyone taking Tamoxifen has had a painful foot condition called plantar fasciitis? I've never had it in my life, until around December - almost 1 year on Tamox, so I'm thinking Tamoxifen is the cause. I had a cortizone shot that temporarily helped, and have been doing all of the stretching exercises, had custom orthodics made for my sneakers, etc. but it still hurts a lot.  If anyone has/had this, how did you get rid of it? I'm scared to take most herbals because I don't want to interfere with Tamox, but I just started Turmeric. I was thinking about adding Bromelin. Maybe I should up magnesium and/or calcium (I read that this can be related to heel spur/plantar fasciitis). I definitely have more aches and pains than ever before - could be the Tamoxifen, or just that I'm 2 years older than I was at dx and hyper aware of everything - but this foot thing is really interferring with exercise (not to mention my love of shoes). Any ideas would be so appreciated!

I've heard of plantar fasciitis. Not as uncommon as you think but I do hear it's painful.

I had a really painful bout of plantar fascitis years ago, long before treatment for BC (I take letrozole). The cortisone shot and taping the foot helped in the short run. In the long run, finding shoes/sneakers with the right support resolved it completely.

I hope you find the right combination and that you get rid of it soon. No fun, that's for sure.

shore - I also had plantar fascitis years before BC - I think it is more common as we age - I was probably about 45 when I had it.  It did resolve though, and I have not had problems with it since.  Stretching is really important and it hurt most after being asleep all night.  There are some devices that pull the foot to a flexed position that you can wear at night to help.  Good luck!

lago - hope you can resolve the ear thig - looks like it hurts!  Sorry to hear you have been dealing with for so long!

Special never mentioned I love your new photo. Yeah it hurts that's why I called the PCP. Had trouble sleeping. I'm medicating (Exedrin) and you know me. If I'm medicating it must be uncomfortable. Exedrin takes the edge off and relieves the headache. I think that's from the pressure it's putting on my ear. The inside of my ear underneath is now starting to hurt. Earbuds not fitting quite right Tongue Out

I'm really going Ferengi on the left.

Lago thank goodness u don't look like that. But I bet u feel like that. So good Luck today.

Shore my GF dealt with that sleeping with some contraption on too--She has not had BC--it is common.

lago - thanks!  Yes, if you are medicating you must be in pain!  You are seeing the doc today, right?  All that structure in the ear is complicated and swelling in that area, where there isn't room for it, has to be uncomfortable.  I hope they can do something that gives you relief quickly and answers the question of what is going on.  Your pic above reminded me of thinking I looked like Gollum during chemo, lol!

Shore - I had the plantar fascitis and I found that putting salonpas on the sole of my foot at night for several days really helped.

I had PF a gazillion years ago. It is pretty common with runners also. The othotics drove me out of my mind and didn't fit in any of my shoes. Lots of stretching and time seemed to take care of it.

Had to wait 1.5 hours! unusual for him. PCP says wait till Monday. (Pops more Exedrin) He doesn't want to even drain it… should be done by the specialist. He said it will probably be surgical removed… and that probably won't happen Monday.

Geez I've only waited 4.5 months just to see this specialist. Granted a friend of mine goes to him and says he's really good. We have the same BS & Gyno so I trust her.

Getting hair cut/colored Monday morning. Who knows. If he does something on Monday I might not be able to do that for a while.

4 minutes to  ACS phone interview. Yup, applied for yet another job.

Lago so u'r still waiting for Monday Geeze----I'm sorry I was hoping u'd be taken care of today.

Camillegal getting it taken care of today would have ment going to the emergency room. I would rather someone who does this all the time to cut/drain then in the ER. This is my ear and my hair is short. I don't want an icky scar. Exedrin will get me through the weekend. My concern now is if it will be taken care of Monday or if I'm going to have to wait for surgery date. Yell

I thought of that fter--naturally an ER is important but to have something done in ER is not always what we wnt--So I don't blame u. But it might be something that they have to schedule and I know u already know that. Again Hurry up and wait. I'm sorry

Lago, Hope you feel better soon!

Shore, I too had PF pre-bc.  I wish I could blame tamoxifen, but it was a 6 mile hike on uneven terrain that was the cause.  It does go away with time, but it can be incredibly painful!!  Good luck!

    Lago..

I've read through these posts a few times. Is it my chemo brain and did I miss what the doctor told you he thought this was? Is it a cyst? Worried about you....

We think it's a cyst. It's a little squishy, typical of cyst

Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. It's just annoying

I've been on vacation and am just getting caught up on posts.

SpecialK - I love your new photo!  You look great!  Healthy/vibrant/young!

lago - the new shit speech has been screenshot and saved!

Pbrain - since being diagnosed with breast cancer I've started watching Joel Osteen.  I was flipping through channels one night while my husband went to mass and landed on his program.  Reading your post about pancreatic cancer and your premonition reminded me so much of one of his sermons.  It was basically about wishing (bad) things into our lives or opening ourselves up to them by thinking about them as premonitions, whatever.  I'm not explaining this very well but all I can say is that watching those 30 minutes really gave me food for thought (I used to always think I would get breast cancer - and I did...).

Regarding automobile injuries - in 1998 I had a car accident wherein the air bag deployed and my breasts were extremely bruised.  I can't remember which one was worse but I think it was the left one (my left side was the cancer side).  On the other hand, at age 31 my gynecologist thought he felt a lump in that breast and ordered a mammogram.  That was nine years earlier so who knows.

ChickaD - I went to five out of my six chemotherapy treatments alone.  My regimen was TCH - every three weeks.  I started January 2, 2013 and my last treatment was April 17.  I'll be continuing on with Herceptin every three weeks through the end of the year.

Flaviarose - what a dreadful ordeal!  I'm so sorry you had to go through all that.

LizA17 - big hooray on crossing the chemo finish line!

okiecountry - I have them run my Herceptin for an hour.

lago - I was really hoping that by the time I got to the end of the thread your ear situation would have been resolved and behind you.  I'm glad the Excedrin is taking the edge off.  Good luck on Monday!

DizzyMom - congratulations on finishing chemo!

Dizzymom and Liza, hooray for finishing.

Lago, does ice help? I seem to get zits in the crease of my ears and until they pop its so painful, so I am cringing for you, ouch!

LeeA, Dang, so sorry you have a glitch with the Damn TEs. Lopsided me feels for you. And if thinking can give me cancer, then I will think about growing new boobs! , hey it couldn't hurt! LOL Special k, nice pic. Shore, I also had of before bc. Not fun, but it goes away.

To everyone I didn't mention, Much love.

Thanks for all the ideas about how to get rid of this plantar fasciitis. I'm doing the Avon walk in October & need it gone. I still blame the Tamoxifen, but hopefully it won't last for 5 or 10 years!

Hi I am new to the breast cancer thing. Just diagnosed march 5. HER2+/ER+/PR+. I am on 11 of 12 herceptin/ taxol. Then 2 weeks off. Then FEC 4 cycles spread over 3 weeks. My one lymph node biopsy was negative. I have multi focal tumors. 4.5cm then several little ones. All scans are clear. I was wondering did anyone get a follow up diagnostic test to see if the treatment is working? MRI or ultrasound? My oncologist sais they monitor clinical signs, I can feel the dense area is now barely there, but all the other little areas that are deeper I wonder about. I am told I am stage2. Grade? I don't know what that means. Any advice, experience welcomed

nursenay I had surgery before chemo so there was no way to know if chemo worked, unless the cancer came back, which it hasn't. I'm almost 3 years out from surgery. Many times when the do chemo first it's either to shrink the size of the tumor before surgery if it's very large or to see clinical response. The only scans I got after chemo was on my liver because they thought they saw some suspicious areas.

You will get what is called a clinical staging based on the pathology from your biopsy. I would ask your onc for a copy of that pathology report. Also ask your grade. Grade basically tells you how different the cell looks from normal cells. Grade 1 looks more like normal cells, grade 3 is least like normal cells. Grade 3 is usually faster growing as grade 2, 1 are moderate to slower. HER2+ tends to be fast growing grade 3 but we have a few here that are grade 2 as well. I think I've even seen one person who is a grade 1 but that's less common.

Not having any lymph node invasion is excellent. My guess is you are a Stage IIA although I don't know if being multi-focal makes you a stage IIB. Doesn't really matter. It appears most of us early stage HER2+ gals with tumors at least 5mm get one of the typical cocktails for HER2+

camillegal I'm fine. Getting addicted to Exedrin Tongue Out I slept a little better last night. Probably because I was exhausted.
