You don't assume you will get into a car accident every time you get in your car. You do put on your seat belt and drive carefully. Same with breast cancer. Eat right, maintain a healthy weight, exercise, and take your hormone therapy (if prescribed). No reason to think you are going to get mets until you actually have a symptom.

Some people win the lottery and become millionaires too but do you really think that's going to happen to you? Shit happens. Sometimes good shit, sometimes bad shit, but most of the time shit doesn't happen. Don't assume shit is going to happen to you.
But I sure wish the winning lottery shit would happen to me

Yes been working since Monday. Graphic design in a big law firm. So far this is perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. The people are great. Very professional.
I have been freelancing off and on so it's not like I haven't worked for years. Just need to get my daily schedule down.

Got through round 2 of 6 of taxo. I call it round 5.1. My onc nurse told me that my side effects should remain as is throughout the duration of treatment. I hope so! I got colace and will start taking tonight for a few days
I bought a generic brand the other day because they did not have colace and saw that there are 2 types of parabens in there! Good grief! You can't avoid the stuff!
I'm paranoid about the skin creme and body washes that I use but it's in everything!!!
After chemo I came home and slept for 3 hours. Same as last time! Prior to chemo they give me steroids, Benadryl and something else - I forget. It's the Benadryl that knocks me out. Felt like I was in space!!

Lago I'm so happy for u finding u'r job and it's just right for you. I wish u all the luck one can have.
And I hope everyone is doing the best u can and I'm all for educating u'r self on this disease to try to understand it--Lago know I don't listen or read actually---but I'm not against it, but sometimes u can get in a whirlpool of misunderstandings and worry and u can't get out. And if this happens u have to slow down the thinking and reading and trust u'r Drs. It only causes stress which we all know is not good. so just remember that our DNA is 50% that of a banana (this is true) so when u'r brain turns mushy from to much thinking blame the banana, so much easier.

Oh Cami. I so love you. And I needed banana brain. I told someone today I am blaming everything on chemo brain-regardless of when it happened-10-20 years ago. Chemo brain. Now it is part chemo part banana brain. I never in my life drank enough to need a banana bag. But now can have a banana brain. Thank you.

Cami… love it. BTW you know I am all for learning more but you can't let the information stress you out. That's why we pay our oncologist right? Isn't it their job to worry about the "what if's"

went to the gym today. 1/2 hour cardio on the stepper and nearly an hour of weights. Felt great!!
I seem to be having dry mouth with this round of taxol and as I sit here I feel the fatigue creeping in. Can't give in today - have to much to do

Well my WBC dropped again. We are going back to weekly Herceptin to see if it rises again. Thinking it is the triple dose...neutropenia is list as one of the most common side effects. MOs at my oncology center say that it only occurs in a very small percentage of patients and that anemia is more common. The anemia is the reason for fewer blood draws when on Herceptin alone. At least I am not on house arrest, my MO feels that 2.5 is not low enough to worry about it. Funny, his co-worker had me on house arrest at 3.2 when he was on vacation. LOL

Robin, 2.5 does seem low, but I am glad you are not on house arrest.
I am 16+ months PFC and my WBC is down to 3.5! That's lower than it was during chemo. My neutrophils are also low at 1.3 and 38% The bloodwork was not requested by my MO, but by my GYN. I think maybe I need to forward a copy to him.
edited to add: I just read that an infrequent SE of Arimidex is decreased WBC's
On the plus side my estradiol number is less than 10 pg/ML so there's not a whole lot of estrogen to feed any potential stray BC cells. But that is probably why my hair is so thin. And my vitamin D is back up to 83

Robin, my WBC was 2.3 last Friday. They put me on antibiotics and told me to use the normal precautions but I've never been put on house arrest, in fact, I've worked all week. So are you doing a triple dose of Herceptin every 3 weeks? Wondering if that's what they plan for me when I'm done with chemo.

I have had 3 rounds of the triple dose only. One thing after another kept me on weekly for awhile. Going back to weekly, I am there for my port flush anyway. My neutrophils are low also Bren. This is all much lower than when I was on chemo. My counts were going up and were into the 5. somethings, then we started triple dose and the numbers tanked.

Those on 3 week Herceptin. Are you having it run in slowly or the regular half hour? Just curious because a lot of people seem to have trouble with those in the short time frame. I had to quit H because my EF went down to low. I got it 30 min.
Well i had my MO appt. Everything looks great but I did need a magnesium infusion today. Over 2 years PFC and still needing them. So back to monthly mag blood tests and port flushes. Sigh...... LOL
See my ortho on Tuesday. Maybe I can drive again. And ditch the walker for a cane! Keep your fingers crossed.

Moon that sucks on the Mg being needed again. You have had such a tough time with that.
Good luck on the ortho visit! How many weeks post are you? I would say the typical time most people graduate to a cane is about the 5 to 6 week mark, but of course it does vary. Fingers crossed for ya! And much love back to you! 0 -
dance I am 7 weeks out. But i couldn't see him this week so had to wait extra week. But my PT's are letting me use the cane around the house just not outside till Ortho says yes! LOL

moon, I can't believe you are still needing mag infusions. It is very frustrating for you I'm sure. Hopefully all will go well with the orhto and you will be able to ditch the walker for good soon!

geewhiz Boss says no real need to work from home. Hours seem to be pretty normal. Granted I'm sure they have their rush times but I will get paid time and a half. Glad the "shit" speech has replay value!

hey Moonflower, my oncologist agreed to keep my herceptin at 1 hour.. it started with 90mins, then 60mins, and was to be reduced to 30mins in my 3rd cycle, but because i requested and also some "heart attack symptoms" few days post infusion, we are keeping it to a 1 hour infusion. I had my echo done and also a stress test, and in these 2 months, my LVEF dropped from 74% to 70%, and i won't need to do a test again till year end/early next year, according to the cardiologist. He also ruled out heart attack.. the stress test was to make me happy and to confirm all is well! so, it was likely the chemo drugs affecting my heart rate and pulse.
efcjax, my wbc went down to 2.1 during my first chemo cycle, and with the antibiotics (ciproflaxin) it bounced all the way to 24+.. way over the higher limit..and has stayed there.. now i'm on my third cycle, fourth one is next week. I'm hoping that my white blood (neutrophils) will normalise!!! Would love to know how yours go, and how the antibiotics might affect it.

I had tx yesterday. I HATE the chemical smell that comes out of my body. My family tells me they can't smell it, but I think they are just being kind. Anyone else experience this?

debiann - yup, I had the weird smell. It was definitely on my clothes and sheets.

my mom was also just diagnosed. She's triple positive. We don't know stage yet but on her pathology report it says score of 6, grade II moderatly differentiated infiltrated duct cell carcinoma, NOS. I'm not sure what all that means. The IC-67 says high profilttation at 67.4%. Anyone help with this? Mine was Dcis.

Hi Lissab - sorry that your mom also got diagnosed with BC - sucks!! I can't help you with the IC 67 part - but otherwise it say that she has IDC - invasive ductal carcinoma and that the tumor was grade 2 (based on the 6 score). One of these fine ladies will come in and help with the rest I am sure.
Edited to add - that since she is triple positive then almost certainly it will be suggested that she do some sort of chemo and herceptin. The recommended chemo will be dependent on the final pathology and the MO's opinion. This thread will be a good source of information for you to share with her going forward. There are many very helpful and informed women in this thread.

thank you so much. These boards have helped me so much with my diagnosis also. From what i know about my diagnosis, my moms is different. I was Dcis & ER & PR+. I'm learning more every day. Thanks again. I haven't had to do treatments yet & may not. They will decide at 1 year post op. If my mom has to then I will be there beside her. Scary time.
