So...whats for dinner?

Monica, so glad your son’s treatment is going well! May he continue to improve.
The wedding was awesome. Passed apps included fried oysters (so no need for a po’boy this trip) and assorted tartlets (spinach, crab & mushroom). Dinner buffet included a carving station (ribeye & tenderloin), salad, Caprese sliders, “Gulf fish” (sheepshead, tastier than it sounds), jambalaya, shrimp, and crudités. Wedding cake was white with vanilla Italian meringue frosting & raspberry filling; petits fours were chocolate brownies with caramel filling, blueberry tarts and Key lime tarts.
Will report back on the wedding itself after brunch tomorrow (at 12:300 which we’re hosting at Palm & Pine. Getting verrry sleepy…

Sandy, I think I have mentioned sheepshead fish as coming into its own in recent years. I have eaten it and it is quite good. In past years it would not have "made the table."
Our simple dinner of fried catfish and mashed potato salad was very much enjoyed last night. DH made his tartar sauce.
Wally, thank you for going to the trouble of listing recipes and pages. I will go though my book and mark those recipes.
Mae, I'm happy for you that your plans are working out.
I have to log in every time I come to bc.org if I'm using Chrome. If I'm using Edge, I stay logged in. Not a big deal since the computer remembers my log in info. Minus, I follow the same procedure that Eric outlined. Go to Community and Active Topics. Favorites is listed with a little number.
Dinner tonight will feature leftover large lima beans with sausage. I will cook some rice and make a big tossed salad. Good to have a dinner with easy prep since I will be doing yard work today with the pruning shears. Little Shop of Horrors comes to mind.

Thanks Eric & Carole. Most of the time I can never get the menu that shows "my favorites". When it does show up, about half the time when I select it says "site down", which it clearly is not since I can use the back arrow & try to start over. I purposely log out every time, but my desktop remembers my log in also (using Firefox). I hate not having the menu visible on the left side all the time. Ah well - I'm old and historically I don't like new things.
Maybe tonight will be fried rice. Or maybe tuna salad on Hawaiian sweet rolls.

I’m using Safari, and have to log in again after every other post. I miss having the Favorites sidebar always at hand—now I have to hit the Page Up arrow, navigate to the drop-down menu at the upper right corner to get to Favorites. If I’m lucky it’ll take me there instead of bouncing me back to the log in screen. After every other post (or every post if I’ve spent too long reading preceding posts) I have to copy, save, and paste after re-logging in. It’s bad enough on a laptop with a trackpad, but on a tablet (with or without keyboard attached) it’s torture,
The wedding was wonderful (gathering photos from guests and will post the best ones). It was at Napoleon House—like Arnaud’s, which hosted the rehearsal dinner, it’s an old building with no elevator, so there was a lot of stair-climbing & descending, Not easy on those with bad knees (especially Bob, who has a lot of trouble descending and whose cartilage is being trashed by the uneven pavement around here). We took family photos on the steps of the Supreme Court. Wedding was upstairs. For the processional we had recorded music. I did a reading of a Pablo Neruda love sonnet. Then we grabbed cocktails as we descended to the street for the Second Line parade, which was almost half a mile. Back upstairs for the reception, with passed hors d’oeuvres, then carving station and buffet. The jazz band changed out of their parade uniforms and played almost 3 hours—jazz, rock, R&B, and finally a Meters medley.
After 11, the kids wanted to head to a jazz club on Bourbon St. & insisted we tag along. Leslie led the way, and she really booked it—I could barely keep up! It was a slalom course over cobblestones, puddles of unidentifiable substances, broken Mardi Gras throws and clouds of weed smoke (no, still not legal in LA). Made it to Fritzel’s European Jazz Club, where we sat in the courtyard and hung out for about an hour. The bridesmaids & their husbands went on to a strip club with lots of cheap champagne. So they and Leslie’s parents took a pass on brunch.
Brunch today at Palm & Pine: started with duck confit pozole (alternate was a wedge salad). Entree was Texas BBQ shrimp & grits (some others had Wagyu steak & eggs with sweet potato hash browns). Dessert was cane syrup pie with preserved lemon ice cream (alternate was a cheese & fruit plate). Had 3 drinks (cocktail, champagne & wine) so am feeling hungover-ish. Eating again at 8:45.

Dinner tonight at Justine (after over an hour of trying to find a reservation for a party of 4-6) with my sis, niece and friends from Chicago now living in SC: salad; “bread cheese” (similar to Bruun Justo and shared with the table); escargots; red snapper over collard greens, leeks & root veggies; and a Nutella tart. Sis & niece (my BIL left this morning to open up his shop tomorrow morning) are flying home to VA an hour before our flight, so we’ll leave our bags with the bell captain and catch an early lunch. This has been an amazing weekend!

Sandy, it sounds like a fabulous time. Thanks for sharing the joy with us.
I use Firefox on a desktop and keep getting logged off.
We had frozen burgers with the last of the lentils and slaw 2 nights ago. Last night, frozen pizza. I didn't feel like cooking. I am not sure if I have a cold or very bad allergies (this is the worst time for birch pollen). The vet-tech we took our cat to was hacking and coughing and we were in a small mobile unit that the vet uses. She had a mask, but it was a flimsy cloth one. I didn't want to say anything, seeing as she was holding our cat, LOL, but she said she tested negative for covid.
Frozen 'za leftovers tonight.
I'm going back to reread Sandy's amazing food. I can only imagine how much everyone enjoyed their time. Mazel Tov!

I'm not sure what we will eat tonight. Perhaps some frozen chili.
The house packing is slowly continuing. We have slowed down the packing as we don't want to have to move to the camper until a day or two before the sale closes. Next on the list is this computer and worktable.
The house is nearly empty now. "Dust bunnies" now outnumber everything else. :-)
It's an odd feeling as the house loses the character we built up over 23 years of living here. Hopefully, at age 61 and 62, we will have 23 years in the new house. Sharon says, and I agree, that the move from Snowflake will be at the request of the coroner and mortuary. :-)

Love it Eric. I've said I won't leave this house except 'feet first'. I have donated my body to science, so they make all the arrangements.
Dinner was egg salad sandwich on french bread around 8pm because I literally forgot to eat all day.
No menu item for "my favorites" or PMs again tonight. URG. So this will be my only stop.

Jazzy - I finally subscribed to the NM magazine. Don't know the usual format but May is all food & celebrating the green chili cheeseburger. Loved the description of this "side" at Laguna burger..."Albuquerque location's signature adult milkshakes...It's almost like a white Russian."

Sorry you continue to be treated so badly by this site, Minus. I like egg salad sandwiches. Cannot imagine forgetting to eat. I am borderline diabetic and feel as though I might pass out when my stomach is empty. I don't have to eat a lot to feel better but I have to eat something.
Last night's dinner was a pork, veggie, rice stir fry. It turned out too large but tasted pretty good. I used half a pork tenderloin, carrots, broccoli, celery, yellow bell pepper and a "freehand" sauce with no measurements. The usual ingredients like soy sauce and fish sauce, etc. I'm becoming a fan of stir fries because they cook so quickly and the prep can be done in advance, not interfering with cocktail hour. And dh enjoys anything suited for extra soy sauce.

I come here to lurk often, but never post and know a few of the ladies here. Eric95us, I just want to welcome you to the White Mountains. Snowflake is a lovely little community. I'm down off of the Concho/Snowflake Hwy about 20 miles and then 6 miles in to our 80 acres off grid.

Goldie, don't just lurk. Join the conversation! How interesting that you live off the grid.

Thanks Carole! OK!
I made a Spicey Glazed Peach Pork Chops the other night. The peach jam was some I had made and froze, have several half pints, organic palisade peaches from CO. that I picked up on a visit to Moab UT. Served with white rice and green beans that I grew and canned.

For Sharon and I... From Snowflake, 8 miles east on rhe Concho Hwy and then 5-6 miles north. So not too far apart.

I will PM you so as not to hijack the thread!

Thanks for posting, goldie0827. Your dinner looks delicious!
Dinner tonight was leftover rice pilaf with Madras lentils, and a salad. The salad had romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, beets, goat cheese and a small sprinkle of chopped, roasted walnuts. The goat cheese and nuts make the salad. If I didn’t need to eat the leftover rice, I think I could have just had more salad.

Wow..three real estate transactions going on at one time...selling home, getting vacant land listed for sale, buying home...and there is a lot of paperwork coming in all at once.
Dinner was ravioli with marina sauce....from a packet and a jar.
We got a lot of stuff done today, but I managed to break my computer table such that it was not fixable. So far, that is the only casualty in the move.

Farewell lunch in New Orleans was at Mr. Ed's. The four of us started by sharing mini crawfish pies, followed by oysters Rockefeller topped with crawfish. Finally, crawfish po'boys (notice a theme?) because they didn't have enough oysters to fry for the 11:30 lunch rush (we arrived just as they opened--and 10 minutes later there was already a line outside (in the rain). The po'boys were humongous, so I packed half of mine to eat on the plane or between flights. Stopped at Cafe Beignet for cafe au lait (no beignets--still too full) because it had indoor table service; despite the rain, the line outside CDM was long.
It wasn't to be. We didn't take off till 5:45 (and shared some CDM beignets with Bob & my sis--her flight was delayed 2 hrs). When we landed in St. Louis, we found our connecting flight home was also delayed 2 hrs. Bob decided it wasn't safe to eat the crawfish so he tossed it. Bad idea--after 7:30 pm there is almost nothing open with anything worth eating in E Concourse at Lambert Field. (So much for the ribs we were craving). Ended up at a Schlafly Brewery/Pasta House concession. Salad was limp iceberg drowned in bottled Italian dressing. "Spaghetti Bolognese?" Spaghetti chopped into pieces (!!!) and mushy, cloyingly sweet sauce. Very bad Chef Boy-ar-Dee flashback. (They might have even used canned). Never have we spent so much (airport prices) and enjoyed so little. (I could barely get through 1/4 of it). The best I could say was that the slop arrived quickly and the portions were gargantuan. We tipped generously--wasn't the server's fault that the kitchen was so awful.
Dinner tonight was a chicken bratwurst on a keto bun with a giant half-sour pickle (like the kosher-deli ones I ate as a kid).

Hi all
For Easter my family are going to my sister's for lunch on Saturday, just party food as we are celebrating my great niece's 1st birthday as well. I'm still deciding if I'm going to make pizza or sandwiches. I've got a friend coming over Sunday then family coming to my place Monday. I did a reno of my kitchen last November and family still haven't seen it yet !!!
I used to work in a supermarket for about 12 years and left 2 years ago. I won't be missing working tomorrow. Easter Thursday is busier than Christmas Eve, it's madness.
I haven't been eating anything that exciting. Just starting to get cold here so looking forward to soups and casseroles.

Hi all! Welcome newbies! Goldie - your dinner looks yummy! The plate itself is also beautiful!
chisandy - the NOLA trip sounds like an incredible whirlwind food tour, congrats to the newlyweds and to you too! I'm glad you are safely home.
I am just starting to think about an Easter meal, and am considering leg of lamb instead of ham. That is what I grew up with (English mom, Australian dad) and we did not really eat ham much, other than deli ham in a sandwich. I have not priced any lamb yet, but in light of the beef prices I am sure it will be eye popping. DD is also starting keto, so will have to find sides that she doesn't like, lol! I'm thinking potatoes au gratin are out.... Will skip candy in the baskets and put in lip balm and gift cards.
Dinner last night was main dish salads with an Asian direction, tonight I am making Chicken Divan. An oldie, but goodie.
Congrats to all on the real estate transactions! Very exciting!
cyathea - goat cheese, beets and nuts - love all three, and they are often my salad additions as well!

I just talked with ET She is going to the same doctor that Sharon "used". Her blood counts were *SLIGHTLY* off, but the doctor said it could be due to fasting/being slightly dehydrated, in which case it's nothing, leukemia, or a tumor on her liver or kidney.
So, it's either nothing or something. A PET/CT scan is scheduled and if that shows nothing, then it's a bone marrow biopsy and if that shows nothing, then it was a big scare. I'm hoping it's the latter.
Dinner tonight will be the remainder of the ravioli.Today was spent signing paperwork to acknowledge the receipt of more paperwork.

Last night was the last of my pork chops with some broccoli. Tonight I made a Cream chicken with mushroom/white wine cream sauce. Served over egg noodles with aspargus/capers. New recipe, it was good but not sure I would make it again. However, I have enough for at least 2 more meals, maybe 3 ! I think I will try some rice or mashed potatoes instead of egg noodles.

Tonight is a Hungryroot Veggie packed linguine made from cauliflower with broccoli and mushrooms. I added some roasted carrots on the side and 1/2 a leftover black truffle sausage from this morning.

Illimae, your food pictures are always so pretty, vibrant and clear! Not to mention how yummy they look.

Goldie - GREAT to see you here. Please keep posting!!! I met Eric once in Phoenix. Next time I get to AZ, maybe we can all get together? I could even hijack my cousin's front lawn in Taylor. Oh BTW - we do talk about drinks here too. I had White Zinfandel with dinner tonight. Last night was a delicious Garnacha. I totally plan to end this long day at the computer with a small, peaceful liquor before bed. Hmmmm - Tia Maria? Baileys? Tuaca? Amarula?
Carole - I totally agree about stir fry. I'm likely to use what ever is in the fridge at least twice a week. Tonight was rice, fresh mushrooms, leftover peas & sweet onions with eggs stirred in at the end. I had some leftover shoestring beets but that just seemed really weird for stir fry.
Special - it will be interesting to hear how the lamb prices out. How has the changing of food habits for you & DH worked out?
Mae - looks delicious. Are you still buying groceries or just cooking what's left in the freezer?
Eric - I sure hope the tests for ET reveal "nothing" instead of "something".

Eric, I'm ruminating about your post and this recent comment...how did they even come up with leukemia and now all this other "possible" stuff. I am not asking you to share all of ET's private info, but out of curiosity, wondering what even brought up leukemia (which lab was off that could be misconstrued).
We had vegetarian nachos tonight.
Tomorrow, I'll make Kedgeree of sorts/tweaked for our preferences and adding some veggies.I popped some charcoal capsules because my IBS/gut issues were still not resolving. So far, so good.
Special, I adore lamb! We never ate ham growing up (dad was jewish) so it was a new taste for me as a young adult, and I love it! But I love lamb as much if not more.
Happy Passover/Easter to those celebrating.

She asked that question...and....elevated RBC (red blood cell) count...suggestive of polycythemia vera. (I hat to look up how to spell that). The oncologist/hematologist says it's kind of rare, and the numbers are just outside of normal, which is why other avenues are being explored first.
0 -
Wallycat, I had to google Kedgeree. I hope your gut issues keep trending in the right direction.
Mae, your linguine pic is great and to think it’s packed with good veggies, too.
Special, I hope your lamb turns out well. I was never a fan of lamb until I went to grad school. I had a Yemeni friend who shared her recipe with me. It was simple, just chunks of lamb (they bought a whole lamb and did the butchering themselves since she was Muslim), salt, pepper, and a medium oven. Sometimes I added some rosemary, too. The roasting seems to mellow the stronger taste of the meat for me.
Tonight we had steak with a mushroom/Marsala wine sauce, Israeli couscous and roasted carrots (with lemon zest and juice, of course). Tomorrow will probably be salmon or sea bass.
I celebrate Passover with my DH and Easter with my family. I’m not very good at making the traditional Seder dishes, but I do my best. A good friend shared her brisket recipe, but my attempts at that have not given DH any semblance of his mother’s delicious cooking.
I echo wallycat’s Happy Passover/Easter wishes and add that I hope our Muslim friends have an easy fast for Ramadan. (And not to leave anyone out, I hope everyone else has a great weekend even if they aren’t celebrating these holidays.)

Specialk, thank you for the welcome and liking my plate! I eat tons of chicken, but never done chicken divan, I'll have to look up a recipe.
Erci, I too hope for the latter for ET. And even if that is not the case and it comes up worse, might be ET should go for a second opinion?
Minus2, what a great meet up that would be, eh? Get your butt out here!!!! LOL on the drinking!
Wallycat, I agree with you on your comment to Eric in regards to ET, something is just off there. Not sure what the charcoal capsules do, I will have to look that up.
Glad I refreshed! Eric, ET's situation sounds complicated.
No Easter celebration for me since it's just me. My husband just recently and unexpectedly passed mid January, from ALS. But Happy Easter to all that are celebrating!
0 -
I sure hope ET can figure out the cause. Interestingly, Dr. Google doesn't list leukemia as high RBC...so I hope the doctor simply mis-spoke. I'm rooting for dehydration or altitude change...or better still, an uncalibrated machine. I hope they re-do the labs and they come back normal.
Goldie, I am so very sorry to hear of your husband's passing. It is never easy. ALS is a nasty condition. My heart goes out to you. Charcoal absorbs stuff...water, bacteria, etc. so with IBS, it can sort of "mop up" the extra fluid and slow down motility...like imodium without drugs, LOL.
For my kedgeree, I will probably use canned salmon. DH doesn't like smoked fish and it is one less thing to buy "just for one recipe."
We don't really celebrate any holidays. We don't even do much for our b-days or anniversaries ..just treasure each day we have with one another.
