Moonflwr I am sorry for your loss.

ERIC and smart phone techies, I need your help!  My 'kind of " boss texted me at 4:52 pm today and said, "IMPORTANT!" your resume has months and years, but can you get the exact days that your jobs started and stopped to me by 10:00am?!  (This would involve the last 20 years and possibly more) I looked at the phone and thought, "No.  That would not work for me, as I will be eating quahogs and drinking wine this evening and that would involve a 12 1/2 day all to get me credentialled for more work, due to your lack of planning,  so, no, that would not work for me"  So I just hung up and didn't answer.  hehe.  My question,  If we both have blackberries for work, will she know I opened it?  Thanks!

Bedoe, they usually have to askfor a return receipts to know if you opened it, but I am not sure on blackberries. Specialk, yeah I have to watch fiber, spice, vegetables, even cooked. Probably going to eat mac and cheese, very mild. And, dairy doesn't seem to be the problem. Oh well ill do my best. It's my godmothers funeral,my dads last sibling. She was almost 98 . She had a good life.

Bedo - I don't think there are any "read receipts" with text messages because it just shows up, generally.  You can always plead "sorry, I didn't get it - problem with service" or some such fib.  I can tell you with my Sprint service that sometimes I get text messages the next day.  And oh, I think your "kind of" boss's request is unreasonable, and the information is not relevant unless you're applying for something like a national security clearance!  I couldn't give the exact dates of my jobs and I don't think I was ever asked!

My corn salad turned out really good, and I think it will be even better tomorrow.  I made it with corn, chopped tomato, avocado, yellow pepper, scallions, a can of black beans, balsamic vinaigrette, a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a pinch of cayenne (my concession to the guys who like spicy things), salt, pepper and a little chopped fresh basil.  My DH is not all that fond of eating corn on the cob, but he liked this a lot.  And I would have added jicama - we ended up stopping at the store because I had to go out to rescue DH at the car dealer.  Would you believe they didn't have any?  I asked someone working in produce and he looked at me like I had 3 heads.  I don't usually shop in this particular store, and well, I probably won't again!

Moonflwr - sorry about the loss of your godmother, 98 is remarkable!  Safe travels.

If enough effort is expended they can tell if the phone received the message.

Unless they asked for a read receipt, or it was a specially formatted message, they won't know if you opened it.

The chances of a specially formatted message from your boss is unlikely....and I believe it will warn you when you open a message with a read receipt.

Oh I just realized Text message... if it's a standard text message..then it can't have any tricks or receipts...they can tell if it made it to the phone, but that's it.

Exact dates? Wow.....I don't remember filling out anything that wanted exact start and end datesfor prior jobs...even on the SF 86..which I think had a spot for the telling them the amount of coffee I drank each hour of the day.

I'll bet the form they are looking at has a spot for the day...just because...and someone feels the need to fill in the spot.....

Sausage & shrimp Jambalaya for us tonight.   Raining on and off... summer has gone for today.... but should be back tomorrow.

Everyone's food sounds so delicious.   Thanks for the wonderful new recipes.

Hope you are all well and have a good evening.

Tazzy:  I love spicy cajun type food...just don't get to have it because my BF doesn't like things that spicy.

Dinner tonight was talipia baked with lemon butter sauce, zuccini and yellow squash sauteed with onions and bacon bits, and sweet potato cubed, coated with olive oil and baked in the oven.

Tazzy, sausage and shrimp jambalaya sounds like Cajun fare!  What's your recipe?

Michelle, the corn salad sounds much better than corn on the cob.

Hauntie, sorry you can't visit with us on this thread, but I understand why you might want to avoid the food discussions.

Tonight's dinner was a whole chicken cooked in a slow cooker.  As you would expect, the bird wasn't pretty, but it tasted good.  I made a bed of sliced onion in the bottom of the crock.  Seasoned the chicken and pushed it in.  It pretty well filled up the small cooker.  Our side dish was potato salad, which I have been craving.  I boiled some small new potatoes in the skin.  Mashed them.  Added hard-boiled egg and chopped salad olives.  S&P, mayo and some yellow mustard.  Served warm.  Chopped onions for dh to mix in with his portion.  It was so good that I over-ate.

Wow! This thread is hopping today/tonight!

Just got home from NH about an hour ago, so am catching up here after spending the day searching for more plants for my deck, then planting them, them greating myself to a nice swim and some relaxation on the beach. We also, ran out and bought light timers to foil the local burglars. Ha!

I loved the suggestions for Michelle's leftover corn, and the resulting meal creation!

    Very n-i-c-e!

Jicama is hardly one of those things that should be on the tip of our tongues...most of us probably don't use it and say it often enough for it to mentally stick? Reminds me that I have not had it in several years. Loved that nice crunch!

Moonflwr, I hope tomorrow's trip goes well for you so that you don't feel distracted from celebrating your godmother's wonderfully long life. Safe trip!

Bedo, hope you enjoyed those quohogs.

Kaara, have a fun time with your girlfriends. I have always had to force myself to leave my regular schedule to take such trips and then when I do it, I am sooooo happy I did.

    Take good care, everyone.

What a busy, busy thread I spent the last half hour reading, sounds like everyone had a great week-end full of good food and fun! Yum on the grated beet salad AND the corn salad.

Hauntie- Hope you recover quickly and feel better. You will have to post a picture of the new you when you are happy with your new self!Laughing  I will also check in on you on FB!

Michelle- Thanks for the update on Joyce I have been thinking about her. Hope you parked your butt in the chair all day like you said you were! I was just wondering how Aloe Vera would be on those blisters? Not sure if it would hurt or help yours but thought I'd mention it.

Bedo- I would call your boss and tell him you have no idea and let him figure it out or make up a date just to get him off your back.

Eric-What a dim wit that guy was!

    Moonflwr- Sorry about your Godmother!

Had a great relaxing time on our trip with friends and family. first night we went to dinner and then sat on our Lanai watching the rafters and drinking wine. In the morning we went to brunch at family's restaurant drank minosa's. At noon took the jet boat trip it was almost 100% out, felt great when we all got soaked. Dinner again that night then more drinking wine on the lanai. Got up this morning and went to a casino, had lunch and gamlbed and headed home. We got home late So just made a small salad with feta and croutons. (sorry about the bold letters) Hate when that happens!

Too many post to reply but Hi and hugs to everyone!

    Morning everyone!!!

For dinner last night we had poached salmon (coho), sauteed zucchini and brown rice, and sparkling mango lemonade.  Dessert was fresh raspberries and boysenberries - hubby went to the berry farm yesterday Kiss.

Breakfast this morning was a chobani peach yogurt and ice tea.

Koycek  So nice to see you here, hope everything gets straightened out and you are back to yourself soon. I agree that Michelle is a good friend to have!

Moonflwr  I had the same problem after chemo and it seemed to last a long time...it has now gotten back to normal, but my tummy never did, still get reflux for no apparent reason (never had issue before chemo)

Last night was bbq pork nibblers, fresh green beans sauteed with bacon peices and balsalmic vineagar and the cuke, onion and tomato salad.

tonight I am thinking BLT's and corn on the cob...very simple.  It is cooler today and I really need to do some much needed yard work.

Hi, Joyce!  Glad to see you checking in here.  Glad you enjoyed yourself Sunday!  The blisters are improving which is a good thing because DD and I are going to Foxwoods tomorrow.  My DS is here (the poker player) and I think he's going, too.  It will make for a fun day!

Gardengumby - sparkling mango lemonade??? Homemade?  Please share Tongue out

Debbie - sounds like a good weekend, nothing like friends and wine!

Carrie - I love doing fresh green beans with bacon and a little caramelized onion.  Yummy!

I wish it was homemade, but no, I bought it at Costco, it's by Martinelli's

glad your blisters are improving, Michelle. What is Foxwoods?

Gardengumby - Foxwoods = casino, really big casino!

aaahhhhh - enjoy.  We've got a plethora of casinos in Washington as well and some are quite large.  I don't personally enjoy gambling and my husband only likes betting on horses, so we visit the race track but never do casinos.  I like watching the horses run, but usually don't bet even at the track - the gambling gene got left out of me Laughing.

    Wow... busy, busy.

Lacey I agree about the jicama - I love it but rarely buy or eat it.

Debbie: sounds like your trip was fun.... Love Mimosa's

JoyceK: glad you are doing well and had fun at Michelle's.

Michelle: happy blisters are improving for you. Good luck at the casino

Gardengumby: love salmon. Your dessert reminded me of one a friend did a couple of weeks ago.
    Raspberry Freeze:
1 brick cream cheese (I used light cream cheese)
    1/3 cup granulated sugar
    ¼ milk
Blend up until light and fluffy in texture. Add raspberries (about 300 grams). Slowly fold in 500 ml of Cool Whip (again - I used light).
Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap or wax paper. Pour mixture in and freeze, overnight is better, but at least 3 hours. Remove from freezer 20 minutes before serving and cut into slices to serve (or use muffin cups like I did).

CaroleH - here is the recipe - says its from the New Orleans style cooking. It was delicious if I say so myself and have leftovers for lunch.

Shrimp & Sausage Jambalaya - Creole Style.

    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 1/2 cups chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped green bell peppers
1/2 cup chopped celery (I add peas instead as DH doesn't like celery)
1/2 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
    4 bay leaves
1/2 lb smoked sausage, sliced (I use hot Italian sausages)
    1 (14 1/2 ounce) can chopped tomatoes
1 tablespoon chopped garlic (add more if you like garlic)
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon cayenne )
1/2 teaspoon cajun ) I add more cayenne & cajun for more spicyness
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 cup long-grain white rice (also works with brown)
    1/4 cup barbecue sauce
    1/4 cup chopped green onions

    Directions
    1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    2. Add onion, bell pepper and celery and saute for 7 to 8 minutes.
    3. Add the shrimp and bay leaves and cook until the shrimp turn pink, about 2 minutes.
    4. Add the sausage and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
    5. Add tomatoes (with juice), garlic, salt, cayenne, pepper and thyme. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring often.
    6. Add the rice and stir to mix.
    7. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 30 minutes, or until the rice is done and liquid is absorbed.
    8. Stir in barbecue sauce.
    9. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes.
    10. Remove the bay leaves.
    11. Stir in green onions.

To those I have missed - sorry, but sending hugs and thinking of you all. Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

Wow Tazzy, thanks for such a long recipe post. I'll be trying the rasberry freeze before the Jambayla which sounds like a good meal to cook once this hot weather leaves.

Michelle, enjoy Foxwoods! Will you be especially lucky or "skilled" with DS along? ;)

Yes, PM me so we can work out a plan for the 11th.

Joyce, good to see you back! Sending you the best as you sort out and tackle this issue. I'm reassured that you are "in the system" so you can get the best care. Yes, hasn't Laurie's little thread gone wild?! So much fun...might we all be considered "foodies" in our individual forms?

Tazzy - thanks for the raspberry freeze - sounds delicious.  Here's a recipe I do sometimes.... (keep in mind that my husband will not eat anything that has sugar in it - so I never use it....)

1 cup of heavy whipping cream (Darigold is best)

    1/4 cup hazelnuts

    2 cups fresh raspberries rinsed

    1 T frangelico or 1 t vanilla

Toast the hazelnuts in the oven, let cool and chop finely (you can toast them on top of the stove, but then you should chop them first and toast them in a little butter) be careful they go from toasted to burnt in seconds.

whip the cream until VERY stiff, add chopped cool hazelnuts and Frangelico or vanilla and stir together add the raspberries and stir until raspberries are fairly well incorporated.  Some of the raspberries will break down, the whipping cream will turn pink.  The Frangelico and toasted hazelnuts add plenty of sweetness (for me).  Serve as soon as possible.

Soooooo SpecialK... what do you eat ???  Bet is healthier than my food at the mo.  I am over indulging way too much.   Keep promising myself that I when I have my surgery I will start watching what I eat again.

hi specialK - I ate that way for a looonnngggg time - and should go back to it.  I'm hard and fast on the ZERO grain (including corn), and have extremely limited sugar (other than in fruit I pretty much don't have any) but have re-added both dairy (on occasion) and alcohol in the form of wine once or twice a week.

Joyce- I was so happy to see you here! Yay! Take care of yourself we love you!

Tazzy- Great looking recipes  I love Jambalaya dishes!

Michelle- I love Foxwoods and Mohegan sun. I believe they are still the 2 largest in the US. I worked at foxwoods and DH worked at Mohegan sun Sure can do a lot of walking there I know you know this but take some good shoes so those blisters will heal.

Went to my friends house today to get some stuff I had forgot in her car while on our trip and she gave me some fresh tuna that her friend who just got off the fishing boat this morning gave her. It looks beautiful!

So tonights dinner will be my favorite way of cooking them which is blackened. Then I make a sauce that is so delicious.

Hot mustard sauce: in small bowl combine 1/4 cup dry colemans mustard, add 1/4 cup of beer (room temp. I use coors light) mix well then add 1 1/2 tablespoons of dijon mustard and 1/4 cup of soy sauce blend until smooth. I put some of the sauce on a plate put the ahi tuna on top. Around the plate will be enoki mushrooms, daikon sprouts and pickled ginger. this was my favorite dish in hawaii and have made it every since.

Picked up some fresh fruit, strawberries, kiwi, mango and grapes for a fruit salad with balsamic vinegar.

tazzy - Lean organic/grass or pasture fed beef, chicken, turkey and eggs.  High fiber, low sugar organic fruit like apples and berries, all organic veggies except starchy ones, water and green tea.  My big cheat is coffee, one cup a day, but I use cocunut milk creamer.  After I went on Femara I still had 13 extra pounds gained during chemo (and I was eating almost nothing, well... except potatoes, lol!) and I weighed what I did at the end of my pregnancies - not good!  I tried walking and the South Beach diet - nothing came off.  I stepped up the walking distance and schedule (4 miles daily) and started very light weights at PT and began eating like this and have taken off 10 lbs. so far in the last 6 weeks.  I also switched to Arimidex because of too much joint pain so that may be part of it.

Thanks SpecialK... I will keep that in mind as I know I have gained a few pounds but am enjoying loving food since chemo finished Wink

Debbie:  I love tuna, especially when its that fresh  and the sauce... yum - I will add to my recipe list.
