Sunday morning I made a big batch of chili (yeah, I know - not exactly the season for it, but I was hungry for chili - so sue me Laughing) so Sunday we had chili for dinner.  For lunch we went to the track to watch the horses run, and I had a salad while my husband munched on a mufaletta sandwich.  Monday we had chop salad with salmon instead of chicken.  I also made a couple more liqueurs for the winter.  Lemon/ginger and spice (used cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove and mace).  We'll see how they turn out.  I had quite a bit of ginger, so also decided to make some candied ginger, then I add the left over ginger syrup to Perrier and have my very own ginger soda (which I must say tastes far better than the ginger ales you buy in the store!)

that sounds so delicious gardengumby.  I never thought to make candied ginger.. sounds great.  I wonder if it would be too hot for my mouth? - well the soda would be fine.

Apple, this is what I'm making tonigt.  I made the pesto from the garden basil last night and have 1,000 cherry tomatoes still coming in

Have to think of some protein

Debbie I hope your visit goes well.

Can never catch up with this topic!

Apple, I like it hot, but you can reduce the heat of the ginger by doing a rinse/repeat on the water while you're doing the first cook (before you add sugar).  The more times you change the water, the milder the flavor.  (I don't change the water at all....)  Innocent

Hi everyone!  I have been reading when ever I have a chance but haven't had the time to post and read.  So I figured it's been a while and I should check in :)

Debbie- I hope the trip to your dad's goes well and he is feeling ok.  I am sure having both daughters in his home, no matter how chatty you may be will be wonderful for him.

Chabba- Continuing to send you hugs.

Michelle- Hope you are feeling well, watching your facebook posts makes me excited for Hawaii!!

Karra- Your pics of your DGD and family are wonderful:)

Carol- Love the story about ugliest fish, prettiest fish, sounds like you are still having an amazing time!

    Deb- Happy anniversary!

Eric- Just reading your posts makes me tired, you never stop going!  Love the stories about the recipes and family history.

I know I am missing a lot of you sorry.

We had a bust weekend.  We went to the local fair and had a lot of fun petting goats and lamas and eating "bad" food.  I have to admit that it is 4 days later and I am still bloated from everything I ate:(  We did a lot of yard work this weekend.  Sunday night I made homemade chicken tenders with corn on the cob and baked potatoes.  It hit the spot.

Today DH and I actually went out to lunch just the two of us, I can not remember the last time we did that.  We sat at the bar of a local pub, just because we could!  No table for us!  My lunch was wonderful, I am still not hungry for dinner.  I had a turkey burger on grilled sour dough with guacamole, pickled red onions and Monterrey jack cheese, it was yummy!

Tomorrow is my oldest first day of pre school and he (and I- probably more me) are very nervous!  I hope he lets me leave eaily and has some fun.

Love to all of you and hope it was a great day.

Hi everyone!  Just got back to NC from my trip to Fl to visit family.  Had a wonderful time, ate too much, drank too much, and now it's time to get back on track.  I had mahi mahi and brown rice and peas for dinner tonight!

Tomorrow I go for the dreaded eye injection and pray they don't break another blood vessel that takes weeks to heal:(

Welcome to the newbies, and I have some catch up reading to do to keep up with this thread!

Trying to decide if I want to run out to dinner or eat more leftovers. I'm already an hour late for dinner. No motivation to eat, but hungry. Oh, oh, crying JAG coming. (Damn arimidex)That's it, going out.

Sharon's biopsy results were "nom-diagnostic". There were too few cells in the fluid for any tests. The ENT doc thinks it's just a cyst. He wants to see her in 6 months and to call if it comes back.

I grilled chicken tonight. We don't seem to get enough chicken. Left overs from last night's meal completed dinner.

Last night I did they guy thing and cooked a roast over the grill (on the rotisserie). A salad, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes for DD (she loves corn, but it's a challenge in braces) and some fruit. Basically a simple meal that didn't heat up the kitchen.

Mom and my mother in law were over for the dinner.

We had taco Tuesday tonight at home.  Then we've been watching the Democratic National Convention speeches.

Moonflwr - hope you had something that cheered you up!

Eric - glad to hear it's probably nothing serious.

Kaara - hope the injection goes OK...make my eye water just thinking about it!

Laurie - glad you had a nice "date lunch" with your DH!

Took my 86 year old dad and his lady friend to the casino yesterday for his birthday. A very pleasant (if unprofitable, for me anyway lol) day. Tonights dinner I think is barbecued ham sandwiches and salad with a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

Got a kick outta the potato conversation.  thought everyone knew what a salt potato was.  My daughter says they dont know about them in NYC either...same state, different country LOL

Good homecooked meal before kids left, grilled steak, zucchini, yellow squash stir fry with garlic wine sauce, corn on the cob.

Between the marina cookout (with all kinds of meats from chicken to sausage) and our home cooked steak, my wonderful son did all of the grilling! I will definitely have to buy him a grill when his house is done being built. Wow how he has grown up just within a few months of graduating from college.

Tonight leftover steak on a salad, really gotta get on track...too much good eating.

Eric  great news for your wife.

Laurie  Awwww what a milestone,  is it an allday preschool?

Hi all - have not been eating anything interesting lately.  My DH gave our old Weber BBQ to the neighbor and he did a 10-hour pork butt on it over the weekend - it was pretty delish.  I have been a weird combo of hungry/not hungry and have ended up eating stuff that I should not.  I am spending too much time at home because I am trying to complete a couple of projects before I go to D.C. for the next vaccine injections on Sunday - so... I am snacking too much!  The flip side is that I am up to 6 miles for the speed-walks!  Everyone sounds busy and enjoying the end of summer!

Moonflower- Yum!  Onion rings!!  Don't feel guilty :)

Carrie- I am so glad you enjoyed your time with the kids!  Sounds like he is growing up on you, in a good way.  My sons school is only three days a week 9-11:30.  Next year he goes all day.  It's the first time since he was 6 months old that he goes to a school type environment!

Auntienance- The casino sounds like fun!  Good for your dad:)

So school went great for DS#1,  DS#2 cried and did not want to leave him.  It was very sweet when we picked him up after, DS#2 screamed his name and ran for him and hugged him super long.  The new routine will take some getting used to.  I should have gone grocery shopping this morning but did not want to leave him out.  Both boys love the grocery store.  I took them out to lunch to celebrate a successful first day and DS#1 ate his entire plate of spaghetti.

Tonight we have soccer at 5:30 so I am getting ready to put together a chicken pot pie to cook in the oven while we are gone for the hour.  It's kind of muggy to be having it, but I'll run the a/c while we are gone so it is cool in the house to eat.

Laurie:  Your little guy looks so cute in his preppy school clothes!  It's so special when they first go off to school.  Mine loved it!

Eric:  Glad the results were favorable...that's good news and be sure to do the follow up in six months.

Eye injection went fine...A/C...not so fine....have to replace the cooling coils which rusted and the freon leaked out...oh well...better than buying a new unit!  I'm going to be hot for a few days until the part comes in, but I'm going down to stay the weekend with a friend in Greenville on Friday.

I bought some pork chops that I will make with asparagus and a salad for dinner tonight.

Kaara- Glad the eye injections went well.  Yuck on the a/c!!  Have fun at your friends!  Thanks for the sweet words about DS.  He wanted to wear a fireman t shirt today, I asked him if just once we could look a little nice.  He agreed.  From here on out he will be allowed to pic his outfits again....so back to plaids and stripes!!  I just wanted a good pic;)

Eric great news on Sharons results!

Kaara, I feel your pain. We had to buy a new unit this year in the midst of the crushing heat wave. That's $2000 I'd rather have spent elsewhere!

KAARA, glad the injection went well. Also glad you have a place to be til ac is fixed. Eric, glad Sharons results are good. Yay. Laurie, I am happy your DS took your suggestion, he looked so handsome. And, of course, now he can wear what he wants and he's happy too! LOL much love to all.

Laurie, he is adorable.....lookin' so grown up and proud to be going off to school! Our little DGS is off to his toddler school this week too. I'm wondering how much more "academic" it might be than his little toddler camp. It occurred to me how many many years this guy will be in "school"!

I've been trying to catch up on reading many days of posts since over the long weekend I spent most of my time writing case summaries to pass on to my replacement. WOW! Glad that's done! I was pulling all niters and am well out of college! LOL

So of all the meals I've had over the past week, one bit of food really stands out. At our beach party, our neighbor, a guy who is a pilot, made these incredible appetizers...jalapeno peppers stuffed with sausage and wrapped in bacon. WOW, were they good if you like a bit of heat!

Today I went to lunch with a friend at Not Your Avg Joes and had the most tasty watermelon tomato gazpacho, and then sliced flank steak with tomatillo sauce, some really sweet corn on the cob, and a watercress and grape tomato salad. Yummm. So tonight we will be having smoothies for dinner....and DH has not objected to the idea! :)

I bet some of you have a watermelon gazpacho soup recipe.....

    Welcome to our new chatters....

Sorry to individually miss so many, but hope you are all doing well.

Lacey - glad you checked in, I was beginning to wonder what you were up to!

Laurie - your kids are so cute!

Kaara - glad your injections went OK.  Still makes my eyes water just thinking about it!

I think we are having grilled pork chops, fresh corn and cole slaw for dinner tonight.  After getting my hair cut and colored, I went to the Mall of NH and JCP was having quite the sale - I bought 3 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of long white pants and 1 top for $32.  How do you beat that except at a consignment store!!!  The top was the most expensive thing at $14.  I was quite proud of myself, and I may go check out the local JCP near me.  Shorts were $4-$6!  Now I have some nice new ones for Hawaii Kiss  I really want to find a long flowy sundress, but I may have missed my opportunity to buy that around here.  Of course, I can shop in LA or when I get to Hawaii.  I'm so bad Wink

Is he the one that did the crying?  He looks like he can handle his own.

Bourbon Steak Tips over wide noodles for suppa tonight.

BTW, the cortisone shots did nothing for DH, he was in pain during our UK trip.  Had a wheelchair ready at the airports and other attractions.  He had an appnt with the orthopedic surgeon and instead of surgery he is going to inject him with a lubricant and hope this works.  DH has the same doctor I have for his Thrombocytopedia, she is a hematologist/oncologist and the other doctor has to consult with her before surgery of any kind.  The orthopedic surgeon/Dr. Sigman, said he has to check with my health insurance to make sure they will cover the cost of the injection.

Deborye, isvyhat the synivist njectin? I had it in both knees, and it helped for about two months. Since it was the months I recovered from BMX, I was happy. But short time for me, and its very expensive. Perhaps your husband will have a longer time for it to work. I can't complain, because when it worked it meant I could help myself off the toilet and out of chairs by myself, so generally a lifesaver.

Good for you Michelle! I'd say go for it, how often do you get to go to Hawaii? But I know you get to go pretty often Lol.

Laurie, he looks adorable and so proud of himself. And how cute of your younger son. I really miss those days. My baby went to her first day of high school onTuesday. I remember she cried every day of preschool. She was shy, but still a pistol. When I picked her up the first day, her teacher couldn't wait to tell me her story. She said she called on her, Robyn, but she didn't answer. She asked her why she wasn't answering, and Robyn told her, my name is Britney Spears. She was only three. The things she learned from her older brothers! Wish I knew how to post pictures, I'd post her first day of high school pic. We bought and returned two outfits before she finally settled on the third one. And today, the second day she forgot her lunch already. Also not unusual for her.

Lacey, that sounds good. Went to a barbecue over my BIL's on Labor Day, and MIL made watermelon gazpacho. It was good too, so much lighter than the gazpacho I make. I enjoyed it a lot too. And we made potato salad with purple potatoes, Greek and regular yogurt, dill, onions and cucumber. Everyone liked that too.

Carrie, never heard of salt potatoes here in Philly either.h

Nice to hear some good news! Very happy for Sharon's news Eric. Don't know why that doctor wouldn't tell you that over the phone though, it's a shame you went through those extra days of worry. And glad to hear your injection went well Kaara. My eyes twitch when I read about it too.

Had fajitas with corn on the cob tonight. The corn was from the CSA and really Delish, the Anita's were good too. Last night DH made some chicken with grape tomatoes and onions. That was really good, and used up some of the tomatoes we are overflowing with. I think I am going to try making some pasta fichoule (spelling?) too.

    Have a great night everyone.

Today I went comfort food. Had some leftover boiled potatos and some Canadian bacon. so made scalloped potatoes with carrots. Yum. Could have eaten the whole dish, but controlled myself. Will probably eat it for breakfast. LOL

    Thank you everyone.

Kaara, I guess I could get a shot in my eye...but unless I passed out first, my blood pressure would be way high! :-)

Laurie, your son looks like he'd be a lot of fun.

When I drive the bus in the mornings, I especially enjoy the first few days of school. On the first day, the kindergartners are scared stiff. By the third day, it is "old hat". It also is fun watching the kids grow up. The teachers get the kids for one year. I get them the whole time they are at school.

Michelle, Just thinking of you as I watched the Hawaiian delegation caste their vote wearing their beautiful floral head wreaths. Love your bargains for your trip!

Kaara so glad that you had no problem with this injection! You are still very brave in my book!

Eric, I always got to watch the kids grow up through the years, too. So much fun to help them along the way. Am missing it already. Tomorrow I transfer all my cases to the new person....a relief yet a sad thing for me.

Loved that job....and am very envious that the new caseload turns out to be half of what I carried due to town redistricting and program placement of my most challenging kids.....finally they can get what they need! Nonetheless, I still don't have the stamina to get there daily....so too bad...Now I need to figure out what to do with the energy I do have. :). Maybe find some good sales? Have not been to a dept store since May.

Debbie, hope your visit is going as well as it can for you and all of your family.

    Nite all......

Ha Ha bus stories! My daughter kept saying " I want to ride the bus! I get to ride the bus!" before nursery school.  After I week she said "I hate the bus" It's noisy and everybody screams"

At the beginning of the school year a bunch of us Mom's used to stand at the top of the hill to watch the kids until the bus came, come rain, sleet, whatever About November 9 Moms had dwindled to just me.  I asked one of the Moms why no one watched their kids anymore.  She said, "because you're there"

Mussles pita bread and a peach for dinner.

    Hi everyone!
