juliet - I finished rads the first part of Dec 2010 and felt the fatigue for many months after. I worked everyday through rads and beyond. There were many weekends I would stay in bed or on the couch and either rest or sleep the entire time. Felt energized on Monday but was so tired by the end of the week. Doing very well now with the energy - so it does get better.
Granny - You got that right.
imashero - Yikes! You certainly have been through a whole lot but you made it through and still have such a positive attitude.

Hi you guys! KANTALOPE! Just wanted to say Hi y'all! I read you every day, & feel so bad for you gals going through and finishing radiation! And Hi imashero! Wow, is that really you? What a pretty little thing you are! I think you have gone through more than your share of problems....So we'll just give you several days off!
Hope your lung problems won't give you anymore trouble.....When you are as old as I am, you will look back on this & think WTH? But you have a great attitude anyway. Just hang in there kid!
It is soooooooooo hot here.... Like 100, and we don't have much humidity, but it is STILL hot!
I just talked to my little Grand-son....Well, not little, he is 25....but to me he is my guy, Ha! Says it is really hot in Orlando also....His Brother, is graduating from Florida State next month....We aren't making the trip, but our other Daughter is....So it sounds like it will be a BIG party, Ha!
I think those guys at Graduation just want to party with their friends after something that special, and DON'T want to hang out with Grandma & Papa, Ha, ha! But I'll be able to watch it with a live feed, showing their Graduation!!!!
Okay kids....gotta go move some plants.... Love you guys....Take it easy with all the burns, and problems with the after rads! KANTALOPE! Are you still gone? Are you leaving home? Lock stock & barrel? That little red-head is your life now, I think! What a good little Grandma! Okay, talk to you later! xoxoxoxoxo

Kathyob: RO didn't say much just that "IT HAPPENS" tissue damage from the radiation. He also said what you look like on the outside is also on the inside... Kinda like hardboiled boob...Mornings when I get up are the worst for me and I find it feels better if I stretch the arm up over my head...
Stage 1: I'm not going to wait until thursday to see the RO (2 week check)- I am going tomorrow and see the sub RO because it is pretty red with white spots...hubby thinks its all my skin tags that were under my breast before I started... it gets sooooooo gooy under there.....still having peck/armpit pain - it gets so tight at night...

Judy (jbadge)thanks for the streches....I was telling someone today about the tightness issues on the radiated side...I'm so glad to see that it's what a lot of women experience, but not so happy that we have to...I'm all about doing the stretches and seeing if that helps....
Granny...you are right...WE WILL OVERCOME and beat this! But remember, we need to come back here and be there for all the those that are just starting out on this journey....we need to let them know that they can do it too....
I"m gonna look for the 16 year survivor thread Granny..thanks for telling us about it!
So unbearably HOT here too....like so many days in a row that I can't even remember...too miserably to even do my morning walks..ugh...
Chevy...it's always good to see you...you always make me giggle....
Jo---where are you girl...here's a shout out to you too!
Love to my sisters...(many prayers too)

granny - Someone had told me about using Desitin when I was going through rads but by the time I had heard about it, I was too burnt to use it. Had to settle for the Aquaphor - still have sample tubes in a bathroom drawer. Maybe I should throw them in the bonfire.
0 -
Sohardbnme I had no idea that Biatene is so expensive, I have three large tubes that I am throwing out due to parbens that it contains. Paid $35 copay. I was so mad that the doc prescribed paraben containing cream. Aquafor, Aloe vera and neosporin worked fine.0
-
So when would one start using the Desitin?
I'm just a tiny bit pink. No broken skin or anything. (15/33 complete)
0 -
pejkug3 - I would start using it now - that way you keep ahead of any potential skin problems. The key to getting through rads with little or no problems is good skin care and drinking lots of water.

I make my own creams, and I have always used zinc-oxide, because it protects your skin. I also make it with Neem oil, Glycerine, Shea butter, Coconut oil, Vit. E oil or cream, Aloe Vera, and Tea Tree salve...Mixed with a base of either grated bees-wax, or cocoa butter melted..... It works so well on anything happening to your skin....like rashes, burns, etc. I use it as a face cream, before putting on my make-up..... And YES, even at almost 74 I AM still wearing make-up....Ha, ha!
I mix it all, them keep what I am not using in the fridge!
And Yes little Kantalope, Tori Girl and I are coming out there to help you play with little red-head! We are plotting..... So just be ready!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxo

Chevy - Coiffed is a word. I usually don't go out without my makeup and hair done. Makes me feel good to have it done and looking good.
I just trimmed all my nails - they are the real thing. Was having a hard time typing and making too many mistakes.
We all can handle Granny - she is one funny, loveable lady.

Hey you guys, isn't there crap in nail polish we are not supposed to use? Thought Chevy might comment on this. I have not polished my nails for months for fear it will poison my body0
-
mammodog- the lymphodema nurse told me if you cannot get a sleeve in time to go to a fabric shop and get a good length of cotton wrap and wrap your arm...30 minutes before flight an dleave it on for up to 2 hours after. I will be wearing a sleeve for a short jaunt to Ottawa next weekend...plan on practicing for the long flight to Tampa in September. as for the airline atendants...it is not for them to say. For your health, you shold get up and move your arms and legs atleast once per hour...ldrinkn lotf of water to stay hydraed and keep your toed tapping while on the plane.

stage1 - I am one of those rebellious ones that refuse to change anything I used prior to BC. I managed very well for 56 years - my BC was a result of a medication - not necessarily anything to do with the environment and there was no family history. I still use my Revlon nail polish and the removers. By changing the things I used to do means BC wins and that ain't gonna happen - that's just me.

I have changed what I can product wise but it is all about personal choice. I figure if I can narrow the chances of other things messing me up down the line, then i is worth th ealterations....but some things I am using up or continuing to use...how do you get mail polish off without remover>

Stage 1...No kidding? Man, I hadn't heard that one.....I know I have had nails put on, I mean the acrylic ones, & that solution is REALLY strong. But I do use the same stuff when I do my own. I don't usually polish my nails, because I keep them so short....Except of course when I am feeling like I need a "make-over" after gardening season.
I also color my hair, & my Grandmother told me that I would go bald from teasing & coloring it...Ha!
I haven't yet, & I'm closing in on 74...
We also used to all get together & put formaldehyde on our nails...Now THAT was bad, but it was supposed to make them strong....
Sandee....If you put enough coats of polish on, you can work at peeling it off... Or just stick your fingers in some paint stripper.... (JUST KIDDING!) Man, I am soooooo allergic to paint stripper, AND epoxy, that when-ever I am around it, I have to go to the emergency room..... I don't use it now, but I did ONCE...
Princess Kantalope! You are just teasing me with your little red-head.... I miss my boys being little so much! Those Grand-sons are 23 & 25, and they have grown up just too fast! I have a little neighbor baby...little Ivy Wren.... And she is just precious...! BIG blue eyes, & white creamy skin...
Sorry I'm not sticking to the subject, but I just thought I'd pop in & say "Hey"...... I am so far after Radiation, that I almost forgot what it was....

Hey all! I haven't posted in this thread before, and I have a question. I finished radiation in mid February. I have noticed, now that it's the hottest part of summer, that the area that received the radiation does not sweat, so any increase in body temp makes the area very hot and red. Normal? It's also starting to itch, especially the nipple area. No, I'm not running around topless. I usually wear tanks, and sunscreen any exposed skin like crazy. But wow, is my right breast sooo much hotter then the left all the time! I did not realize ( until recently ) that my sweat glands would not work after treatment. Wish my RO had told me that. Anyway, advice? Will the sweat glands come back, or are they gone for good? Thanks ladies!
