I should add that 16 months out, my radiated breast still feels somewhat tender almost all the time. I've been told that it may be like this for quite some time. It also bruises very easily-I was tossing a heavy garbage bag into a dumpster, and the bag slipped and hit me in my "bad" breast. My entire breast was black and blue when I woke up the next day. I don't think I would have bruised so badly on my "good" breast.

Radiation-the gift that keeps on giving! I don't regret doing it though.

Yramal, Sherryc and GMAFoley:  Thanks for your insight on the skin condition.  I thought it would be sooner and hadn't even thought about the outside skin healing and the inside still being healed.  Wow.  I guess this will take sometime.  Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to no email delivery as it's getting closer to us heading out to Maine.  I need the next week or so to plan and organize and pack for that.  All that kind of stuff takes me longer now then it ever did.

I have to go get my port flushed today and have to have a conversation with them about my husbands blood thinner.  They are kind of dropping the ball on that and he has to be plenty thin on his INR to make this trip.

I will be checking back in before we leave to see how everyone is doing.  I was going to get a lap top to take but Hubby asked me, "Do you really need that?"  Umm, I've always wanted one but at $500. I guess I don't really *need* it!  I'll miss not being connected though!  I tried to convince him I could teach him how to use it easier then the desktop because I wouldn't load it with so much stuff and pictures and bookmarks etc, and it would be simple for him to learn and access his work stuff but he wasn't convinced.

Anyone had any experience with CTCA, Cancer Treatment Centers of America?  They are across the country and I like what I read about them in case the devil C returns.  We have one in N. Illinois at Zion.  If insurance would cover it and if the C comes back I might really consider it.

Have a wonderful day and mid week ladies and sending you all lots of ((((HUGS)))).

    Hugs,

    Juanita

Oh my God Princess Kantalope!  You are still cussing like a Sailor!  You got a Mosquito bite?  WHAT???   Honey, I cut my leg so bad on a drawer that I had taken out of my desk!  It has a metal runner on the corner, & of course my leg saw it, & beat feet to hang itself up on the edge!    So after I hobbled into the bathroom, blood filling up my Croc, I got that leg in the tub, & commenced to bleed-out!  Lordy!   But DH cleaned up after me...  Didn't hurt that bad, but quit a chunk is gone....still bandaging it, but I DIDN'T call 911 or whine all day....!  Much less a week!

My Lymphedema leg comes and goes, is that typical gals?  Or does it just stay puffy and swollen all the time?  Even if it is not from Breast Cancer, Lymphedema can be there, from any surgery involving nodes, right?

Okay gals.... Kantalope...you must be my favorite little Princess...Love you lots!  xoxoxoxoxo

OMG look whos back...yeah im still cursing like a saylor and scared shit of the LE...and you with the LE in your leg did not even call 911.I bet you didnt go to the DR either...

I know the LE comes and goes but you have to take care of it and be aware. After even 1 node removed you are prone for LE.A mosqueto bite can cause it years later...so can a cut or any kind of damage for that matter and it doesnt only have to be in the breast...it could be anywhere.

One of the sistas put on one of the threads (maybe here) that she lifted a big heavy garbage bag and hurt the sick boob...NO NO NO.you are never supposed to lift anything heavy.never.same goes for you..be careful with that leg sista....go to the damn dr.will ya?????

missed you a lot on here.have no one to holler at....or even banter.I think ill invade one of your other threads and tell them just how badly you treat yourself.

come visit more often...Princess kantalope calling chevy!!!!!!

Jo!  Your picture!  I love it!  I know....Kantalope is like my little Sister....and she doesn't mind me, either!   I don't lift anything heavier than one end of the Sofa!    She is just jealous I think...Wink   I don't know how we got started, but it is so fun with her....Is she listening?  She's ALWAYS lurking somewhere....  Gotta have fun, even though we've all been through a lot.

Sorry the rest of you normal gals are still having problems.....   Tomorrow we are staying home, so I can iron, & take the stove apart....If I feel like it, I'll move the damn stove!   Ha, ha!  ( I just have to hear Princess Kantalope holler)  Man, she cusses like my Dad did, and he WAS a sailor!

Nice to see you Jo!  Love you gals! xoxoxoox

After all this time, I thought it would be nice to finally post a picture of my ugly mug - LOL.  You are right, Princess Kantalope is like a big sister to me and I really don't listen to her either.  It really doesn't matter how we got started but it sure IS fun and we need to be able to focus on the fun and not so much on the crap we have left behind us.  We are all in this together  and what good times we have.

GMA - I ended up with permanent nerve damage from rads and now have to take amitriptyline for the rest of my life.  Hate the thought of doing that but it is better than being in pain all the time.

    Hello sistas!

I was MIA for awhile, but I"m baaaaack!

I spent the last week with family, celebrating my dad's 70th and the baptism of my newest nephew! We ended up "remodeling" my dad's bathroom for part of his gift and that was some hard work, but it ended up beautifully as well....

Now, back to reality and back to work and all the worries that I have each day...bummer!

Looks and sounds like everyone is doing pretty well..that is always a good thing! Chevy, Granny and Jo1955...you three are the BEST!

But Chevy, be more careful....I hate that you cut yourself so badly...ouch!

Headed to my RO next Tuesday for a followup appt.,,,it's been 4 months since my last rad, so I think she may release me after this appointment...I have another MO appt on Sept 6th and them my first mammo after active treatment...YIKES!  I'm already freaked out about it!

Anyways, not much else to report on this end...just doing my thing and happy to see you all posting and doing well...

I pray for you all everyday!

Morning gals....  Hello miss Kantalope....found this for you!

Don't worry little Torigirl...Those appointments are always dreaded, but they come and go pretty fast!   And we'll be waiting here for you...

And Jo.... Whatever it takes, right?  You just can't be in pain all the time.  It wears you down!

Sandee!  I can hardly see you, ha!  Okay, I'll post a picture taken just recently:

Tori - Glad you are back - we missed you.  Hope this is your last RO appt.  In my book, the fewer the better.  My MO does all my follow ups and scheduling of any and all appts to other doctors with the exception of my GP.  I like the fact I am down to just the MO & GP.  That first mammo after active treatment can be scary.  I had mine in June and I was freaking out for nothing.  Turns out the rad tech was super gentle and she was able to get the boob squished down enough to get good shots and I had no pain whatsoever.  My BS had even given me a Lortab to take the morning of the test.  You are going to do just fine.

After rads ladies..... If you had the choice would you go through rads again, or opt for a mx?

I have to make this decision shortly. My tumor was on the left side. I already have painful cording that isn't resolving. I just don't know what to do. You input would be appreciated.

  • gmafoley
    gmafoley Member Posts: 5,978

DebRox: that is a very personal decision but IF i was to get another tumor I would do an MX... but if it was my first tumor I don't regret anything I did... I would do rads first...

  • jo1955
    jo1955 Member Posts: 7,545

DebRox - I have to agree with GmaFoley.  It is a very personal decision and I would also opt for a MX - first tumor I would do rads.  I did 6 weeks of rads and the only thing I regret is not changing ROs at the beginning.

Sherry0- I believe we will be tan free soon. I is 8 months for me now and the left breast, while smaller, is almost the same colour as my other, lilly white boob...in any case, it does not bother me now that the pain is gone. the rigger point massage REALLY helped lower my pain level. REalized yesterday and today that my ribs no longer hurt either!!! I am wearing differen bras each day so that I do not end up in pain but nothing is hurting it right now so i feel so much better. Was told by three different people today "geez you look great!"...I have lose 4BMI points since January...and it all seems to be sliding off me lately...not the actual pounds but the fat...I can even notice it around my chest and breast area so...all good.

Tori- breathe my dear...you will get through this appointment

Chevy- pic is too small hmm? Ok..I will change it...really wan to share that fun dress though!

Debrox- I would do rads and a lumpectomy on the right side as well as the left if I end up with another diagnosis that is similar...but I would do trigger point massage earlier than I did to avoid the cording and tight muscles as much as possible....and this is post heart attack. But as the gals above have said, it is very personal....I am somewhat attached to my breasts...not willing to give them up at this point..not sure why....but you never know...if it happen again, I may change my mind!
