After Radiation

I never had a follow up visit with my RO. I saw her on the last day of treatment, and she said everything looked good, but I could come see her anytime if I needed to. I had no real issues with radiation. I see my MO every 3 months, and she does a very thorough exam and blood work each time. She has me on a 6 month schedule alternating between a mammo and an MRI, due to dense tissue. I have seen my BS 1 year post SX, and I will see her again at the 2 year mark. I love my team of docs, they have been very attentive, but I look forward to the day when I have fewer doctor appointments!

Ceeztheday - I have to admit I saw my BS for almost a year after surgery. Had multiple seromas and some other issues. He is so amazing and caring. One my one year cancerversary, he wanted me to come in and see him which I did. No official visit - he treated me to coffee and pastry. What other doctor would do that?????

jo1955, What an amazing BS you have. My BS is the favorite of all my doctors, too. I wish my BS and MO could trade places since the MO is the one I see most often. There is nothing wrong with my MO, but he just does not have the vibrant, reassuring personality of my BS.

Wow! Jo, what a great doctor you have! My BS left for Chicago shortly after my surgery, so now i am waiting for them to get a doc to replace her. I saw the nurse practitioner last time I was in. I wonder whether my RO knows this because I can't seem to shake him! I saw him 4 weeks post-rads, then 3 months after, now I will be seeing him on Tuesday four months after the last. It seems I will never be rid of him! I like being taken care of though because I still can't shake this pain and swelling. Back to my compressure bra again 24/7. I think the stress of the holidays did it and being sick with a sinus infection didn't help either...

Jo- Your doc sounds great. I hope I'll never need a BS again, but can you message me their name (just in case)? Hope to meet you in the new year Jo!

Jo your BS does sound amazing. I saw my RO three months post rads and did a mammo right before and he released me so I never have to see him again unless I need to which I hope I never need to. I see my MO every three months for the standard CBE and bloodtest.

Oh Granny D, such good news about your friend. I have been using almond oil on my hair which has softened it back up from the bent wire that sprouted on my head after chemo.

I have to say that I had one of the best teams of Dr.s by far...............I was at a Regional Cancer Center of Fox Chase in Phila.................They have all the latest things that the big hospital has, and everything, and every Doctor was at the facility..............It all started with the "redo Mammo", and from there on in they did everything else.........................My BS handled all of it................I am coming up on 1 year in Feb. 2012, and have seen my BS, RO, MO, and my LE specialist numerous times.........................I am so grateful I had such an outstanding team of Dr.s taking care of me...................they left no stone unturned................all my pathology never left the facility either.....................I watched my BS carry my "biopsy specimen" from the Radiation Dept, to the Pathology Dept. and had a partial result in 2 days, and all reports in by the 3rd day after my surgery for the cancer was done...............I hope I never have to be treated by them again, but they were wonderful.........................it means a lot when you are happy with your "team".....................
Have a wonderful NY's ladies, and lets all pray for a better 2012..............hugs.

I too was fortunate to have good care thru the Cancer Treatment Center in Lincoln, NE.
We live in a little town about 75 miles from there, and my local PCP had me see a surgeon who comes here from Lincoln. The surgeon took care of coordinating all my care. My PCP, BS, MO and RO have worked as a team. I think I have been blessed with the best of care....The support teams, (techs, nurses etc) have all been top notch too. It would be wonderful if everyone could have the care you and I have had.
HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!!!! Here's to wishing us each a HEALTHIER 2012!!!

If any of you ladies are experiencing joint pain since starting Tamoxifen - June started a new thread focusing on that subject. Anyone who can share a few words of wisdom, please stop by and post.

Vick..............your right.............about everyone having the care we had..............even more fortunate for me was the fact, the hospital was (without traffic).............10 minutes from where i live, and my son, and my daughter (2 of 6)...............took me everyday to Rads, and waited till I got done...................through all 33 treatments..........................
The hospital had "valet" service for your car,. and we got to know all the attendants by first name............what a great way to go through a "not so great ordeal"................I could not find fault with any one thing from beginning to end...................it made it so much easier to deal with............................
They also have free "yoga", "massage therapy"..............and "survival classes" if you choose...............it doesn't get better then that...................they certainly "CARE"..............

Ducky--sounds just like my hospital...10 minutes drive, valet, and any class you could ever want or need, support groups as well. I feel truly fortunate to be living in Buffalo. My husband proposed moving, but it would be hard to leave living near Roswell Park...

My hospital offers all that too.and i get free transportation and ya know what?????i never went...not once...and its all free....im so tired of drs.i would rather do it myself.....and i do....yoga when i can...dance if my body lets me...walk is the main thing....stretch all the time.....i think about all those things but cannot bring myself to do.Wed.im goin to Dr.Gastro.grrrrrrrrrr.that = colonoscopy.grrrrrrrrrr.
