Sandra, does that near miss give you chills on your spine? You're not the first person on here who had that result. I'd say luck is on your side.

Wow Sandra! How lucky are you?! Well, for sure the decision to have the double was definitely the right one for you..........even better that you dont need chemo or rads either. Way to go woman!!!!!!
Today is a flat day........hate them........I think I have done waaaaay too much over the last week and the old adrenals are, for the moment, tapped out. Oh well, I guess another good sleep will put all that to rights and I will be back to my old self tomorrow.

Sandra,
That is shocking news! You must have an angel sitting on your shoulder. You have confirmed that fear in the back of my mind.
I have been worried about my other breast because mammograms for the past three years show my cancer but no radiologist read it as cancer. My breast started to feel like a hole had been scooped out of it so had diagnostic mammogram and they still did not read it as cancer. Then family doctor sent me for ultra sound and they finally thought an area looked suspicious and that was the beginning of my journey. Now my breast cancer surgeon expects that I should take her word that there is nothing going on in my other breast. When she did my lumpectomy for IDC she found another tumor next to that one that turned out to be DCIS. She asked why I'm so worried about my other breast and I told her because people make mistakes and she just smiled and said, "but nothing shows on the mammogram where something did show for three years on the other. It was just read wrong."
Am I being paranoid?0 -
Sandra, good for you!
Jo6202, You could always get a second opinion, if you haven't already.

Jo, after being dxd with BC there is always the possibility that it will be in the other breast and because of that we are all a little paranoid about its health. If you are really worried to the point that you can think of nothing else, by all means, take your scans and mammos and get a second opinion on the reading of them.

Jo, I can relate to your feelings. One of mine showed on the mammogram. The other was a total surprise. Thank God poor margins had BS go back. The surprise was a little larger and grade 2.

Although I had cancer in one breast, I chose a bilateral mastectomy 2.5 wks ago. I got my pathology report yesterday. All the cancer was removed and nodes are all clear. Great news! No radiation or chemo necessary. Pathology on the "good" side was a shocker. They found cancer and it was a bit more advanced than the side they had previously identified. It was a total surprise. It did not show up on the mammogram or the MRI. Fortunately all the cancer was taken on that side as well and the nodes were clear. No rads, no chemo. If I had chosen to remove only one breast, which was recommended, I would have waited until next year for a routine mammogram on the remaining one. By then it might have been too late.

JO,
Run, don't walk, to another doctor for a second opinion. As I've just learned, you cannot rely on tests. You know in your heart what you need. Find someone who will listen.

Aly, love those Big Girl Panties!!
I woke up this morning and heard the sound of rain on my roof.........where has my beautiful spring weather disappeared to? It is back to middle winter and COLD! So much so that I think I will need to even light the fire tonight. This last week has been stunningly beautiful with clear blue skies, lovely warm sunshine and a gentle breeze to make sure we don't overheat........what I call perfect! It seems that Mother Nature is just making sure that we don't get too wrapped up in the pleasure of nice weather, enough that we forget that it still real early in the season.......sigh! And here was I thinking the warmth was here to stay.......sigh.
Hoping you all have a wonderful day!

it was so hot this summer a woman put ice out in cups for the squirrels. This little guy decided it was a good place to take a nap.

What a sweet picture, Nancy! Love it.
Chrissy, sorry about your cold weather. Summer here is still in full swing but there's supposed to be a cool-down this weekend. Ready for it, too, with 90+F days.
We kept both DGS's overnight and until midday today. I now know why children are born to younger people. What a night! 4 year old was great, 8 month old was a challenge for both of us.
Tomorrow's Friday! Odd how one can be retired and still be excited by the weekend.
Hugs to all.

Hi all! After a sixteen hour sleep......yes you did read that right.....lol......I am feeling just fine after a busy two days in the city. Thought I would share with you all the pic of bride to be DD2 in all her toilet and butcher paper finery including a toilet paper rose bouquet. This is what we did to her at her hens afternoon tea last Saturday. The girl in the background laughing her head off is my other DD who will be the bridesmaid.
It was all the more funny as the bride to be is always so well dressed and has an inate sense of style.......luckily she surrendered to the fun of the day.
Hope you get a good giggle as well.

Chrissy:
It looks like so much fun and your daughters are beautiful like their mom. Now, tell me - is a hens tea like a bridal shower? I love that idea of decorating the bride with the toilet paper. I would love to do that but I guess I will have to wait for granddaughters' weddings. Unfortunately, although I hate to admit it, I do have two who are age appropriate for weddings.

Marianna, yes a hens tea is the same as a bridal shower......lol....same beast different name. It is a tradition here that at the hens tea we form teams and 'dress' the bride. The trick is that we have only toilet paper and butchers paper, staples, sticky tape and glue to hold it all together. Its a whole lot of fun and gets everyone interacting as we design and make the outfit.
I was thinking that this particular DD was never going to marry and so was she but two years ago now she met her fiancé and the big day is now just twelve days away! She turned 40 at the beginning of April this year so don't give up!.......lol.
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
Chrissy, it looks like it was so much fun! And I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away. I can't wait to see pictures.

Chrissy, your DD's are both beautiful! I'm glad everything's about done and I hope you can catch your breath before the wedding day. Hope too that your outfit won't be too hard to finish! I agree with Lisa and wish we could all be there!

Thanks girls on the compliment for my DD's.........I also think they are beautiful but I could be a little biased........lol.
I will share the day with you all by posting a heap of pics.......I wish you could all be here as well.
The outfit........well........if I don't get moving on it it certainly won't be done so I think there will be a few late nights coming up for the rest of the week........maybe I can get the skirt and top done then I can concentrate on the crocheted bit.
Have a good day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
Hey, where is everybody? Almost one week without a post................everyone must be busy. Well at least I know Chrissy has been busy. What's with everyone else?
Marianne

Marianne I think everyone is out enjoying the last of the summer.......lol.
For myself? Well you all know what I've been doing.......lol.......and I'm still working on it! I have one more day to complete as after that I will be shopping and cleaning and doing final prep before the big day arrives.........do wish I could stretch the twenty four hours but I know that's impossible........lol.....I'll just have to work faster!
Have a good one all!

Jo,
You might want to ask your Dr about a PEM scan. My BS swears by it. Just got my results back from Fridays' PEM scan and YAY! -no surprises in either breast...just the aggressive booger in my rt one. I have had 2 mammos, U/S and PEM. BS prefers PEM over MRI. Going to oncs tomorrow to see what else they want to do for testing, etc. My BS is in France on vacation, so, lucky me, she'll be back refreshed and ready when I have to do surgery soon!
I hope all you ladies can get outside and enjoy the wonderful weather and are feeling well.

We've been having great weather here too, Terri. Leaves haven't changed a lot yet here, but they're supposed to be at their peak color in the NC mountains in a couple of weeks in the mountains. I want to go! DS and family went last weekend and brought us some delicious mountain apples.
Terri, I need to look up PEM (and meant to do it before posting), as I don't know what that is. The protocol here is diagnostic mammos for the first year after surgery, and then yearly diagnostics. I'm now in the yearly part and that makes me nervous.
Chrissy, you're in a dead heat heading to the wire now and I hope everything's going well. I assume there'll be people staying in your home since cleaning's on the agenda. Thinking of you with prayers for speed!! How's your outfit?
Just wanted to check in and hope all are having a good week. I know I've neglected to mention someone but if I go back you know what'll happen!
Hugs to all.

Kathy,
The PEM scan is an alternative to a Breast MRI, I believe. Another diagnostic tool. It is similar to a mammo, but they inject you with some type of sugar...? You have to restrict your diet the day before from carbs. They inject, then you wait for 45 mins to get it through your system. You are scanned twice on each breast, for 10 mins each scan. You do get to sit down! Not a hard test, just time consuming. My BS says it will detect anything. BS did have a hard time getting my insurance (Aetna) to approve it, but they finally did. I am not sure if it is something they do after treatment as a follow up or not. This was part of my diagnostic testing. I am sure it's not "safe", but what can you do? I think I still have a few scans/tests to go before I get my treatment plan in place....waiting, waiting!
I hope your yearly check up goes well!

Thanks for the explanation, Terri. I have onco. appt in November and I'll ask him if he knows about it and about insurance coverage. I'm a retired NC state employee and our insurance is BCBS.

Terri, I've never heard of a PEM scan so thanks for the info. Here's hoping that yours goes well and nothing more is found.
Kathy, I think I can, I think I can..............lol........ Just needed a break to let my fingers unkink........lol. I have about ten more minutes to finish the back and front of the crocheted top and I already have a sleeve half done so, with a little luck and not too many interruptions I should get this all finished today!........yay! I would like to be able to get it done and blocked before I go to bed tonight.
You are just finishing summer and we are heading for it!.......lol.......spring has well and truly sprung here and my garden (and everyone else's) is looking really lovely and of course the hills and surrounding country is still green so right now it is very pleasant. I love the way all you trees turn color! We have a few and they are imported but the natives here don't loose their leaves.
Well back to it! Got to get 'er done!
Love n hugs. Chrissy0
