Pawprint u notice I left that sleep theory alone. Maybe cuz I was LOLing to hard at Chevy to reply. But I respect u'r right to use it and tell the Dr. u'r record of what the hell it means. To me there are so many variables, but tht's just me.

Wow it's been raining and pouring all day as long as it doesn't storm, that's my new mantra. I think I used tht word all wrong.

A WOMAN was flying from Melbourne to Brisbane ...
Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sydney.
The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes..

Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind.
A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her Seeing Eye Dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight.
He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, 'Kathy, we are in Sydney for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?'

The blind lady replied, 'No thanks, but maybe Max would Like to stretch his legs.'

    Picture this:

All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a Seeing Eye dog!
The pilot was even wearing sunglasses.
    People scattered.
They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!
    True story...
Have a great day and remember...

...THINGS AREN'T ALWAYS AS THEY APPEAR.

On a more serious note - Can someone tell me how to check for swollen lymph nodes?  And which ones I should check regularly?

I'm sure this is a question for my MO, but just thought I'd get a headstart by asking here!

    Catching up from previous page

Susan - the tomato throw sounds like a fun marvelous time. Are you free to throw tomatoes at anyone in the "game" so conversely you are free to get hit by anyone? Do you have tomato red dyed hair now? Glad you were able to make the trip and your DD came back with you. When you said you raised "convicts" I thought perhaps you had joined Phylliswiththeanklebracelet. Oh I see Chevy had the same thought. (Great minds think alike - right?)

We could make tomato sauce outside today. It's 95 already and not even noon. Hah they think the high is going to be 99 - no way. Betting for at least 101. But there are storms starting to pop up by Wichita Falls headed our way. These could be wind makers for sure at this temp. I washed out dog's crate this am. Just turned it to finish drying and need to get it in soon.

Got a dumb/dumber question. For those of you that get pedi's (no mani needed) about how often do you go? I'm trying to justify the expense to myself because I'm having trouble reaching the toes and doing anything other than a butcher job on toenail cutting. Polish I can do OK. I've only ever had one pedi - after my LX. In all my preps for it the one thing I forgot to do was cut my toenails. DH can actually do a pretty good polish job but NOT with quik dry stuff. Well I did have a couple when pregnant must admit. How do you know they sterilize well? Had no prob. with the one after LX and it would be the same place - where I go to get my reg. haircut.

2TA - You prob. already know this but the UTI was driving her behavior issues. Usually the 1st clue is a change (and never a good change) in behavior. I think it is not unusual that pts stay on low dose maintenance. Sassy might be more able to answer that. I still think unless the perfect - and I do mean the job - comes along it was not meant to be until you get your mom settled. And I know settled is not anywhere near the term for what you and your DD feel in your hearts. Wish I could be there to help out, bring you coffee/iced tea and give you a big hug.

Chevy - I don't know beans about ITunes but I get he11 from DH if I leave stuff open. He's better about it than he used to be but he says when I leave windows open it's an avenue for hackers. How can that be when it sits on the email homepage and that's not a problem for him?? I am not computer literate. Don't ask me to retrieve stuff from Word documents. I can't find them 99% of the time - thank goodness I don't use too much. But Adobe moved the user manual to my phone and I went nuts until I figured out how to get back to it (I bought phone used/no manual). So yes I shut this down every night and if we are gone from home or during extreme elec. storms.

AussieSheila - I was reading your story hoping the trip in the paddy wagon would turn out good. What a story. Hopefully in the future it will become a family story and you can laugh at it. Was it worse being driven around the hosp. parking lot or possibly arriving home in the paddy wagon? Many years ago DH,DD and I flew to Houston to meet old friends and then the 6 of us flew on to Harlingen, rented a car and drove to South Padre. Rent cars were all white Ford Taurus'. You could spot them a mile away (think they don't use the same make/model so much now because they were robbery targets). Stupidly we spent time in the grocery pk lot trying to open (keys only no remote 1995 or so) numerous Fords cause we had no idea which one was ours.

Enerva - that is a beautiful place to walk. That would certainly inspire me to get out.

Tang - thinking about you today. One step at a time. You'll quickly learn the rads routine. I could count thru mine and knew just when the arm would move. I was more concerned about getting a cold (sneeze/cough) but they told me just give them a quick warning. Never did once during them so turned out a non-worry that I shouldn't have worried about. I certainly think stress and the stress hormones have a place in BC development. I think studies will eventually show that but then there are others who have no extreme stress in those preceding years. Looking at rain map on channel 8 - looks like you're in the 2-3" section like we are. Yeah. I'm ready for fall.

Nettie - I cracked up at that story. What a surprise ending. I thought sure blind lady was going to get back on the wrong flight. Thanks for the laugh.

Nettie - I'm not the best. I feel along collarbone both sides and axillae but lefty is hard to do because mostly one big lump. Has been. Along under neck. Looking for a change just like self breast exam. If you do just b4 or just after doc exam then you know what you feel they think is normal. If you do b4 of course you can ask what is this. I was not good at SBE - thank my lucky stars it was found on mammo.

Hope I have not put anyone to sleep reading here. Maybe I need to write the next best seller.

Luvmygoats, I also was not good a SBE I guess that's why I have no idea how to check the nodes!  If I had done better checking, maybe I would have caught mine before it was so large, however; i had a normal mammo the year before!

Nettie, great story...lymph nodes I am a pro at...wish I wasn't, but that's the way it is. Lots of cancer in mine. Under arms r harder to find cause they r a bit deeper. Feel around there a lot and get used to how it feels. U will notice something different . The neck,  both side of your jugular, and along your clavicle are the best places to check. I also check my jaw ones. There aren't any above your jaw line. When mine swell up and we have to switch chemos, my neck gets very tight and it's painful cause they r pressing against nerves and my jugular and it limits my neck mobility. They r perfectly round when they start out swelling, if they get to big they feel like clusters, u can't feel the perfect roundness anymore. Well, that's my story.

Tomato throw info ....pics will b on later today.....yes u can throw at anybody ....had a hat on, it was a mess. Lol....yes we smelled like tomatoes till we showered, even though we changed our clothes. Wait till u see the pics of our shoes, cause we were wiki and sliding in the mush...pretty gross. And of course I had a white t shirt on...the red mush shoes up real well on that.

My crazy sister in law, asked me on Saturday at a wedding shower if her daughter could move in with us. Boy did that catch me off guard . First, she has been to my house often, I have 2 bedrooms, one for us and one for my daughter, who comes in often. And we have one shower working , and one has been broken for over a year. Could have fixed it, but we have been using money for fun traveling right now, we will get to it eventually . It is in the master bedroom, so no one sees it. This was after she asked me how I was doing, thought I was done with chemo and all better. I explained that I will never b off chemo, and when they run out, oh well, so do I..lol.   My hubby, her brother , lost his job 3 yrs ago and is working for a bit above minimum wage...but fantastic insurance, which is what we need right now. He teaches culinary on Saturdays during the school yr along with the other job, so we r good then, a little tuff in the summer, but all in all good. Her daughter is 21, and we live closer to where she works and would like to travel less. Hate it when I have to say no, in a situation like that. But how could she have even asked me?. I feel like the bad guy. Especially since we have done this for other family members before. But right now, it just wouldn't work.

Ok that's my story...I feel better now

Luvmygoats, if u didn't put them to sleep...I just did !!!!!!!!

    Ta ta for now

No Susan you needed to vent. I just needed to ramble lalala and on.

Your sister in law needs to get her head screwed on right. Sorry to be blunt. I read the best just the best answer to questions that you have no intention of answering. It was on another thread. Someone else on here prob. lurks on it and read it to. Hold up one finger (your choice haha - I would assume index finger like stop but never underestimate could be middle one). The response was something like (but oh so much better and gotcha in a nice way) "Let me think about that" and walk away. I'll have to look for it. It was classic. To the point not nasty but you betcha they understood.

Looking forward to tomato throw pics. Good excuse for those clothes you're just ready to ditch.

Tangarooni - stay safe out there. Looks like you're side of metroplex is going to get it. My backporch thermo. got to 105.

Nettie - same with me. Normal the year b4. Radiologist has shown me the pics. I praise The Lord every day for her diligence. If she ever leaves the place I go I will track her down - well as long as she stays local.Winking

Susan, that's pretty rough!  I mean I guess she expected you just to say yes, because you are "family"..... but that isn't how it works!    It wouldn't even matter if she paid rent, would it?    Tell her you just can't handle it right now....  and it IS too much to expect of you!    Yes, you could say.... "Let me think about that..." and then in the next breath say "NO!"

Okay Littlegoats.... I guess I'll shut my computer off, like I used to at night....  It's just that I have to sign in whenever it starts up again, and it is even EASIER when I remember my danged PASSWORD!  Ha!

I don't get Pedicures either.... they would just laugh when I walked in their door!  I just put one foot up on the stool, and have a long handled  "buffer?" and buff down my toe-nails and the bottoms of my feet...  But I don't wear open toed-shoes....  My toes just aren't that pretty.... I ENVY you gals with pretty toes and nails!

I just bought Windows 8 for Dummies....  I'm leaning a LOT just by going through the programs, but now I can have something to refer to when I get stuck.    It's like every-day I learn something new!

Oh!  It was Aussie, on the last page.... and the saga of her car!  My girlfriend parked her car at a parkNride one time, and went on a trip!

When she got back, her car was GONE!   She called the Police, they took her home, and the next day, they gave her the number of the Lot!  The Lot had MOVED all the cars, because of paving!  And did NOT tell the people....  !  But her Son took her back, and they found her car, on the other side of the lot!  Who knew?  She was really afraid!

It IS hard to remember where you park your car sometimes....!  Especially if you don't park in the same place, or close to it all the time!   We don't have a beeper or electric car openers either....  I drive a go-cart.

This is from the thread 'Why was I stronger DURING treatment than I am now?' Thank you to Purl who penned it.

    "While
the tedious person is talking, I will hold up a finger and say, 'Can I
stop you right there?'......then wait, there will be a pause
...and then I will simply say "thanks" and walk away. Join me?"

Isn't this just the greatest response. Now I must admit it was in response to treatment suggestions so you might have to vary your response.

My car has a remote but the batteries in it are so weak it can't activate the horn anymore just the lights.

I hate it when I take my husbands car and I am looking for mine.....it's scary that I raised a child...lol

Lately the best....and I might have told this already...sorry if I did...but the best recently was when our dog was sick, and I had to be at chemo, my husband has that day off of work so he can go with me...I said to him....someone has to stay home with Shelby , we can't leave her here with her tummy problems alone....he just looked at me and calmly said....he would stay home cause as much as he would like to help me out, they prob won't give him chemo.......sooooo, what goes after the brain goes ?? I want to know what I am in store for...lol

Gosh Susan I do that with our vehicles. We have 3 so some days I just search the grocery parking lot. I lost my car one day shopping. Came out the wrong door of the dept. store.

Do you ever start out somewhere and have to keep reminding yourself where you are going? I have 4 docs within about 2 miles of each other. I really, really have to concentrate esp. when it's not glaucoma doc day since I go there more than any others.

Your DH sounds like the voice of reason.

Talking about raising a child. Got called to get mine one day at daycare. 103 fever (ear infection). I went in and couldn't find her. Because - I was looking for what I dressed her in and not her. Scary. I had all long sleeved, pants things. Put her in someone else's onesie (this was a hospital daycare so I didn't feel so bad about the clothing).

Shutting down. LIghtening close and getting closer by the minute.

SweetSue. your SIl is short some gray matter............speechless.

Nettie, google keywords. "picture of lymph nodes" , "Picture lymph node location in humans". use variation on words until you find a clear picture. Should pull up what you need. Remember if you palpate too much you can cause tissue to be painful and swollen which then you will worry about. BTW the pictures of you and DD and Dh were lovely.

Maddy did I miss that Mom had a UTI . Read LMG response. Sometimes I'm caught up on reading , post and then find a post that posted after I went by that section.

When to treat UTI? Controversy over last at least 15 years, maybe longer. This is specific to females. The origi?nal article I read years ago, identified by doing urine screening on a large number of older women, that bacteria was present in a fairly substantial number of the screening group. But the bacterial group were without symptoms of a UTI.  The study raised more questions than answers. What do you do when bacterias present and no symptoms. Do you risk the untoward side affects of repeated antibiotics in patients that become colonized with bacteria?

Over time the thinking evolved to 1.look at history and decide if patient is colonized i.e a bacteria has set up permanent presense in an area.  2. if colonized is the patient symptomatic 3. are the symptoms localized to the bladder or have they extended to the whole body system(keyword--urosepsis). 4.treatment plan is based on findings of the first three.

When you google keyword urosepsis--uro--urine; sepsis-systemic illness. This is where there are a mixed bag of symptoms. A patient may be septic , but not necessarily present with fever. Fever is a symptom that automatically triggers us to think "sick". In the elderly the temperature regulating mechanism can be faulty i.e.not working. Where you and I would have a temperature, they may not. You can read about other signs and symptoms. With Mom I did read earlier she was acting out more that usual and had a big guy giving her medicine.

Altered mental status is a big symptom of urosepsis. This can be easily assessed in the patient that has a normal mental status and now there's a sudden change. The problem solving to get to an answer with this patient is ABC's, Oxygen saturation, blood sugar check, Vital signs, head- to-toe physical exam,  then followed by blood work, urinalysis, and chest xray. That sequence generally identifies the problem. If all that's normal then the doc moves on to bigger diagnostic testing i.e evaluation for stroke by CT.

The problem becomes much more difficult when the patients mental status is already altered, plus add to that the likelyhood of their  temperature regulating mechanism is faulty. The two biggest clues too a UTI are absent. So, Mom's behavior has changed, is she just having a bad day or is something going on?

Today she went through a physical exam? A Urinalysis was included and basic blood work--CBC will indicate if an infection is present and the urinalysis will show what's happening in the bladder. Voila problem identified. You didn't expect it, but the basics caught it. Explains and justifies the pre-entry physical.

Another rule out that's very important in the elderly to evaluate in altered mental status, is whether they are constipated or impacted. The daily record should record whether the patient has had a bowel movement. When this is kept properly and early intervention by use of stool softners and or laxatives is the plan approach,  the untoward effects of constipation or impaction can be avoided. As mentioned above the head- to- toe assessment in the presence of a sudden change mental status should include a rectal exam for feeling the stool in the rectal vault. This is probably one of the most commonly missed steps.

I remember one poor guy during my first four months out of school. Came on duty for night shift. You could hear him yelling from two halls away. His admitting status was minimally disoriented and no indication for restraints. He was described as becoming more confused and combative. The previous shift put him in restraints. No other intervention(ghastly). After report I went and evaluated him. Majorly impacted. Dug it out. He calmed down and was safe to take restraints off.

Maddy hopes this helps :) Two things to always ask the nurses. How's she peeing and pooping?

Ah Sassy - daily BM record. The bane of my hospice nursing existence. And I will tell you in an assisted living situation there will be no record kept. You will be lucky if you can find the aide that changed her briefs. Briefs being code word for adult diapers for the enlightenment of everyone else. It was pretty much standard practice if a significant change in behavior attempt UA collection. Cath if family agreed but many did not. In the field then you have to find an accepting lab, get the order faxed from the doc, drive it over there. Arrange for the billing. We usually just treated for it anyway. Good staff know their pts. They check O2 sats usually though not so sure about AL places. Prob. not up to standards and practices but this again is hospice. Family/pt comfort. Keep facility staff happy. Can't tell you the # of impactions I've removed. Again another fun thing about hospice. You would have loved the trunk of my car. Like a minor ER minus the drugs.

Spookie - I had a friend who was run into on her motorcycle, didn't see her. Majorly broken ankle. She used the motorcycle for in town; had an older truck for other times. She bought the cutest bright bug spit green Hyundai. I have always wanted a bright yellow vehicle. How can you be unhappy driving something that color? What do you drive that's green? We're mundane around here - white truck, silver truck, maroon Equinox. Never had a bright car.

Nice poor down for about 20 minutes. Thermometer went to 105 on porch. Down to 85. Awaiting the summer polar vortex. Maybe 2-3 inches of rain. Bring it on - well after we pick up the hay in the morning.

OMG!  I was having a panic attack since yesterday, because I have this new DELL, and I love it, but I couldn't post pictures ANYwhere, from ANYwhere!  So now I opened with Google, and tried Google Images yet again, and typed in green car, and I found my OWN green car... covered with 'grass' appropriately enough, ( as a side note) and let's see if this posts, before I travel on!

Oh I can't STAND it!  Okay, now I am happy!  Couldn't do it opening with AOL...  Hah!  So now what else were you talking about?

I talked to neighbor's DIL yesterday.... She had called a lot earlier while we were gone, but I have somehow not been wanting to check messages, because I always have this feeling I will be called to go up there....  And I KNOW she will be just the same.....  But I called her back, and she had the Grand-daughter go by...  It's just the same old story...  And it must makes us all feel so helpless.

They are moving her in about 2 weeks, but everyday, they will get called...or I will...  You know, I woke up last night thinking that maybe it is Meniere's Disease?  I read about it this morning when I woke up, but she doesn't have the other "usual" symptoms...  Like hearing loss, or head-aches or Tinnitus... (OMG I ALSO HAVE SPELL CHECK!!!!)

So I'll call Judy back today, and have her ask the ENT when she takes her tomorrow if it could be that!  Except the treatment is Meclizine.... which gives her the trots!   I just have a feeling that it's is a lot of stress, added onto her years... and man, I am just baffled.  We just can't "fix" her.

So Enerva, you mean a big ole' Harley, right?  You don't mean a Schwinn or something like THAT, do you?   Send us pictures of what you mean, you bad girl you!  I suppose you'll run out and get covered with tattoo's...  (like my Daughter has)  If SHE could afford a cute little Harley, I'm sure SHE would get herself one also.

Honestly, THAT feeling, of riding on the back of a Harley, with that rumbling sound, and my long brown hair blowing in the wind, was just superb!  And riding to un-known destinations like the Blues, Barbecue and Beer bar, were just short of heaven!

Okay, now what?  Susan, I'm glad your DH covered your butt...  and told HER a thing or two.... I have to post this, or lose it down the rabbit-hole.

Do you even have a key-board on whatever it is you are using?  Are you using that old Underwood again?  I keep trying to correct your spelling errors with my little erasure wheel thing, but it won't work.   I don't know what nodes look like either, so I can't comment..... Oh well, yes I can, but it doesn't mean I know anything....

Wait.... we're all on pins and needles Susan....  you want ME to post some tomato pictures?  I CAN, you know!

Would you all believe that I actually dared to ask DH tonight at the hospital entrance, "Where are you going to park the car tonight?" before exiting quickly from the car.

Then I told the whole dining room full of people in the rehab ward, that we had been escorted off the premises by the police in their truck, no less.

Boy-oh-boy, am I popular now....I tried so hard not to, too.  It just busted out of me.

Sheila. Lol. Did your dh laugh ?

Chevy - oh yes. The freedom of being on the back of a motorcycle.  Sweet ! Glad you got posting pic figured out, always get s good laugh out of them. Thinking of your neighbor. How very hard it must be for her to have to leave her house and her freedom ( with all her assistants  of course). To have someone else live in her house. You are a good neighbor and def a softie under that motorcycle riding , bong smoking, pole dancer exterior.  Now days most people don't even know their neighbor much less offer help.

Enerva - yes please tell us more about this bike of yours.

    Fbb (((hugs)))

So the nurse practitioner called last night to say my cancer count was up. Went from 42 to 62. So they are scheduling more scans. Ugh. I know my mo had said in the past a small increase like that was nothing to get excited about. We would just scan and if nothing new shows up we will continue same treatment.  However mo is out of the office like 6 weeks due to heart valve replacement or repair. Can't believe mo would have called me at night to tell me that just so I could worry Til after they get scan results back. It was time for scan anyway ( every 3 months ) so why not just scan , get results and THEN discuss increase in numbers.  Am I crazy thinking this ?  I guess some people want to know that kind of thing but not me.

Hugs to everyone. Hope y'all have a great day.

    Hootie hoo
