Good morning ladies- I had an amazing two days in Santa Fe with a jazz concert on Thursday night, and then an all day yoga festival yesterday. This is peak seasons for Santa Fe tourism so it was hopping downtown on Thursday evening. I stayed a bit out of town at a hotel I have been to before just for a conference, and it was very do-able (and affordable too). I went to have a cocktail before the concert and had the most amazing watermelon margarita. I think the folks on the drinking thread would like that cocktail!

I spent 10 hours at the yoga festival yesterday and of that time, I did 6 hours of yoga between four classes. That is probably a record for me. Although I have done yoga retreats before where you do a couple practices per day, and do 2-3 hours in total each day for a week. I have never done that much yoga in a day in my life! My only real issue was feeling warm a lot of the time. I think the place where we did the yoga did not have AC and it was hotter than usual for August. And I think I was hot flashy too. I think between all the sweating, I should have lost 10 pounds, but alas, the scales say no......

Anyways, this is sort of a break through experience to be able to do that much exercise with anything since before my surgeries and all the rest that followed. I spent a number of months doing personal training the past year, and see another pay off from it. I came home exhausted but also feeling personally very happy about what happened yesterday.

Boyd- I am so sorry about the unexpected loss in your family. So hard for the family left behind. Hugs sister.

I am glad you are going to the water park to have fun with the family this weekend. Water slides are a blast. And btw, you hair is amazing.

Sassy- my get away was only for two days. My next trip is to upstate NY in October for a family wedding. I am so looking forward to seeing some northeast fall foliage for the first time in about 10 years.

Wishing everyone a good weekend. I know for some, the kiddos will be going back to school soon.

Be careful what you say Jazzygirl, there are teachers on here, you know, and we don't want to be reminded of school any sooner than we have too, lol.

oh my goodness ladies of the night. I am pole axed by a seroma and a milestone birthday for a couple of days and come back to pages of catch up To read in my sleepy hours! I'm not sure I will be able to keep up with you.

Sas - Jacfin is the first three letters of my first name, coupled to the first three letters of my surname although I rather fancy myself as a tropical fish.......one with all the luminescent colours and wafty, floaty, fins. The song your brother sings is indeed Waltzing Matilda. The unofficial national anthem of OZ which famously celebrates the courage of a sheep stealer who murders the cops who corner him in our equivalent of the American bijoux (sp?) which is a Billabong. The world over you will find Aussies in pubs who should not have access to a microphone belting this song out tunelessley.....including, I am ashamed to say, yours truly in the Derriaghy Arms, Northern Ireland circa 1984!!!

Chevy - too tired to read words tonight but your pics of the reformed feral verge are a stand out.

I'm off to slosh with my seroma (reminds me if another song......my sharona) and try to get some sleep.

    Nitey nite

    Jac

Careful Jazzy, I think Mema, TangaRoonie and I would like to see a lovely cool fall this afternoon if possible. Losing so many leaves already looks like fall.

Debiann - My goats would be horned but to show it's not required but highly frowned upon if they keep their horns. My vet has done all of my current goats. I have the equipment but DH and I never got good at it. I had one naturally hornless goat "polled" but the gene did not carry thru to her offspring. I bred my last babies in 2013, wasn't a good year. Had a baby runt I bottle raised. She lives with herd, knows she's a goat, does all goatie things, has quite an attitude. Told my DH that was it, couldn't go thru that anymore. Took back in 2 wethers last year I'd given to a friend. Oldest out there now was born in 2007, Mr. Bucky. I would prob. need a new buck anyway if I started breeding again. He is dad/grandad to all but one goat out there. She's fathered by a buck I had only for a short while. Mr. Bucky is pretty nice. On his trip to me via a goat club auction he stopped in GA from Wisconsin and bred a few very nice showy does. They've done well in the herd there and his offspring in other herds, but again the does are much better than mine.

Boyd - sending my sympathy to your DH.

Sleep well sloshy Jac. Now if have a ear worm of My Sharona.

Luvmygoats- I saw some trees turning to yellow on my drive up to SF, which seemed early. But we have also had a cooler than normal spring and summer due to all the rain. We only get yellows here, not the firey orange, red and yellow combos of the northeast. I am originally from New England so I miss the falls there. Well, the summers too and the beach time. That being said, I still love the desert.

Howdy Jac. We go 24/7. Sorry you have a seroma. I had one for a very long time.

Loverly, In case you see one of these, don't squish it. There a mess squished.

    Luvmygoats,

Here's a picture of my Bucky. He and the others were a rescue. Bought them from someone who was not treating them well just to give them a good home. They were about six months old, too old to dehorn. Bucky is very gentle, but the horns are certainly a hazzard. He could poke your eye out just turning his head! The girls are much smaller, they are dwarfs. These are our first goats. It has been a real learning experience.

I'd love to see pictures of your herd.

    Spookiesmom,

That picture says it all. I taught summer school, so my summer break just began. Walmart sent a back to school flyer this week, noooooooo! Too soon!

Oh he's for sure at least part Nubian with those ears. I think Nigerian Dwarfs have more the curled horns. My goats do the funniest things, throw their head back and circle heads. I thought one goat the old herd queen had taught them this oddball maneuver. I think looking at in the last few years they may be trying to scratch their backs with the nonexistent horns. HaHa your fence looks like mine. Mine have never tried to escape. The only one that tore down any fence was the short time buck who went thru a fence to get to Mr. Bucky with his doe. He left not too long after that. Never tried collars. I did have plastic chain on one girl. She was my love Nellie (aka Sea Nymph), my avatar. She lived with #1 Mr. Bucky for about a year. The does hated her (most of my foundation came from one herd and she was an outsider) and she was much better with him. She died way too young from anal skin cancer. I'll see if I can get DH to dig up some pics tomorrow. I could no way get those on here.

BTW - the Lady Grey made very good iced tea. Yesterday was cold leftover iced coffee day with a squirt of whipped cream.

Yeah. Sas isn't here yet, she's still driving in it. I hope the wedding can be moved indoors. So far it hasn't been as bad as last week.

Guess everyone is napping or celebrating.

Zills - I think DH is making an Amazon order tonight or tomorrow. Any tea recommendations? I see Taylors of Harrogate has a "tearoom" blend loose tea. I'm willing to try it. They also have a Christmas blend but not available direct from Amazon. And this as well - never heard of it - Ntingwe Kwazulu. A South African tea. BTW - what are crisps? I thought they were akin to potato chips.

    http://steepster.com/

found this while searching. Not sure how useful it is but I see Amazon's reviews are jumbled. The tearoom blend and the Ntingwe Kwazulu have the same reviews.

where I ordered my 1st premium teas ages ago. Lots of stuff to spend $$ on.

Crisps are potato chips and chips are French fries. The salt and vinegar are stronger than here. Big flavor is cheese and onion. Gives horrible breath.

I don't know anything about those teas.

What kind do you like? Intrigued because you were making room in your luggage for tea, crisps and chocolate. Living vicariously thru your trip lol.

Salt-and-vinegar crisps stronger than the pissant American versions? Hmm....i'll have to look into that. Now contemplating getting some loose Lady Grey for iced tea.

We may start a run on tea here lol. I decided I can buy the Yorkshire Gold locally in 2 weeks. Why waste a perfectly good Amazon order. I need to get some benefit from the Amazon Prime DH is loving and 2 day shipping is it.

Queenie - our local grocer based out in East Texas has their own brand of jalapeno chips. I must say they are good. I don't think I've had salt and vinegar ones.

OO I found a tea store in North Park in Dallas. Mapping out the maybe 5-6 hours I can spend there b4 picking up DD at Love Field. Google maps says 64 miles, 1 hour and 11 minutes from home to which I say HaHa no way. I used to live in Dallas, 35 years ago.

Luv, it's the darn summer traffic around Northpark that is the problem! Too many teenagers. Let me know about the tea shopping. It got up to 102 over here today.

Boy, I don't miss my teaching days, except dressing up the bulletin boards! I drove a school bus also when I was a single parent, helped to make ends meet.

Jazzy, I love Santa Fe. I worked for Harcourt Assessment and had the NM assessment contract so spent a lot of time there. Went there two years ago to 10K waves. First time I had actually stayed out there. That area is one of my all time favs. We're headed to New England to see the fall foliage the first week of October. I really need to get busy with some hotel reservations.

    Happy evening to all...

Mema- Ten Thousand Waves is an awesome place. I have not been there in awhile, maybe my next visit up that way!

Here is an awesome photo of a southwestern thunderstorm from a local photographer. So spectacular I had to share it.

Goats: 64 miles through/around Dallas in an hour and a quarter? Can you hear the whoops of laughter from here? Not that I've ever driven through any city in Texas as an adult...but I've driven through Chicago several times.I could maybe manage that at two in the morning. If I were lucky.

A few of the national brands do salt and vinegar chips; Cape Cod's not worth the bother, but Kettle Chips's version is at least mildly interesting. Probably not a patch on the UK version though. Now dreaming of finding a shop that does tea and nothing else in Chicago....

    hey everyone,

It's been a crazy day. My daughter age 16 spent the night at my moms last night and forgot to take her epilepsy medicine. My mom called me this morning because she had a seizure than woke up with a severe headache and unable to see. Of course My husband and I rushed up to my moms house. Let's just say an ambulance ride was the last thing I expected to do this morning when I woke up. The hospital gave her benedryl, medicine to stop abdominal pain and an anti-inflammatory medicine (even though she hadn't eaten and had already had 2 ibuprofen) and IV fluids. It made her sleep but the headache went away and vision came back. They took blood but didn't run any tests on it. Between the slides and diving board at the water park, not taking her medicine last night and not drinking enough water yesterday it's no wonder. So she will definitely be seeing her daughter next week to do blood work and make sure everything's normal. Nothing worse than something being wrong with your child. I'm just so relieved she is fine and am watching her very close, which if she's home I check on her many, many times during the night anyways. Well now I am just letting her rest and enjoying some quiet time for a while. Nite everyone

I start with chowhound even though this thread is old. At the top it says Chicago. You can click on that and it takes you to more search topics on Chicago.

Teavana in the last link is a chain. I even found one in Ft Worth. Specialty coffee shops are hard enough to come by much less tea here.

Looks like a much better selection in Chicago than Dallas.

Ah ha I looked at the map again. Part of the route is tollroad thru N Ft Worth but I still think that is a ridiculously short amount of time to drive to Dallas. It takes me 45 minutes to really get into Ft Worth downtown and hospital district.

    Lovely picture Jazzy.

Scary Boyd. Glad all has turned out well after your eventful day. Wishing you a peaceful night.

Jazzy that photo is fantastic! Just beautiful, thanks for sharing. I hope they don't have rains like they did last week in Florida.. the wedding party will need flippers and wetsuits. Hope Loverly and her family have a great time. Love all the goat pictures. nite

Goats: I know where I'm going when I'm next in Chicago. That and the Asian foods markets, though my husband will have to sit on my head about NOT bringing back a half-gallon of soy sauce. Sissy.

    Boyd: scary indeed!

Oh what a day!!! At 12:00 p.m. the sky was quite angry looking. You can see the lightning in the horizon.

It rained cats and dogs not very long after. We got to hear a few booms.
