Okay(sigh) confession time--Ms. Spookie, originally I put in an application for this one:
Joey is a medium size poodle mix. Perfect!! Someone beat us to it. So we went to the SPCA to look for a different dog. I told the girls and DH no GSD because of the shedding and we ended up with a Belgian Melanois...why did i give in?? The poor girl was so skittish. It took her about half an hour before she came to us. We couldn't approach her. She doesn't like crowded places. She just shuts down and won't move or sometimes tries to run the other way. The first time I took her to the dog park, she didn't know what to do with the other dogs. She was even afraid of them. I had to move her to the far end of the park before she felt comfortable to run and oh she can run like a greyhound. So happy running with little cares of what were at the other end of the park. We are trying to socialize her and she has shown great progress as far as not as afraid of people. Still working on socializing her with other dogs. She saw our friends' dog the first time yesterday and I was so happy that she made several attempts to smell my friends' dog. She even let him smell her! Now, we are working on the separation anxiety. Thank you Ms. Sas for the suggestions. She is more comfortable with her crate and even goes in there without us telling her to. Still howls and whines when we leave

I had my tooth pulled yesterday, cancelled my Physical exam for December, because I am just too perfect...Ha! Got my flu shot today... Made appointment for a Mammogram.... don't need a "diagnostic".... I thought I already told you guys this....
If I did, just pretend this is the first time I said it...
We had that cold weather and then all the rain, and the leaves are EVERYwhere! They have to be dry to get them cleaned up.... but it's beautiful out today.... Made appt. for DH to go in for another eye exam at the eye-surgeons.... Then get set-up for the cataract surgery.... He needs to get it done FAST, but he is in no hurry.... Just that he YELLS when he thinks I am going to hit a pole, when I am parking...! WTH? He can't see right, & it scares me 1/2 to death!
Now I just have to break the news to him.... gently as possible....
Sass, I googled kids dressed up as Walmart shoppers, and I got a million pictures of REAL shoppers at Walmart.... Eeeeeeeeeks! They don't look like that where WE shop....
So happy to see you Pepppermint! You doing okay today? Yes, kids out-grow their parents pretty quick.... and then they always come around as they get a little older! I'm closer to my youngest Daughter than I ever was.... and she is 54! But we always were close.... I missed that with my Mom.... I think she was just kind of too busy working, and dealing with Dad.... Maybe things were just different in those days.......?

Loverly, Belgian Malanois are wonderful dogs. They are highly trainable. They are used for police/guard dogs allot b/c they are so intelligent. They are very protective of home and hearth. Great with children when well trained. Therefore, they must be well trained to commands. LOL I sound like Pets101 on TV.
Your's is showing lot's of stuff found in pound puppies/dogs. Makes it so difficult b/c you have no hx. Was they're abuse? Why is she so skittish? Please, don't take her to the dog park for the forseeable future. Dog parks are not known for owners that can control their dogs. Plus,unless ordinace requires proof of shots and worming they can be exposed to lot's of stuff. Your park may be great in this regard--hope so. But right now she's still anxious.
Please, contact a animal consultant that will come to your home and evaluate the dog AND you (LOL). She is unknown to you, she has many anxieties. A few hours with a professional, can make a world of difference. Generally, this can be accomplished in one to two 3 hour visits.
When DS got Shatzi(3 months old), I had DH & DS take her to the local training classes. They didn't know it, but it was more for them than her. I could have taught them the same things, but I'm Mom. She was an Expert. It took the onus off training for me, to allow them to think they were doing it on their own.
As young marrieds when we got our first dog. I trained both Dh and pup. DH never had a dog. Max was an unbelievable dog. Dh was harder to train than the dog, but with patience they were both trained. One day Max brought home another Brittany. We took it in. But it had no manners(training). DH was so funny when he was angry about the dog not answering any commands or coming to a whistle. I had to re-explain training, even tough he was there for all of Max's training. I was such a gentle teacher, Dh didn't know he and the dog were being trained.
Brings back a wonderful memory of Greg and Max coming home from a run in the woods. Both covered from head to toe and foot in mud. Bless them. Hosed them off.

The Mitzi is beautiful. Love the long legs. Still raining buckets. Wonder how Goats is doing? They started getting rain first. We're up to over 6 inches. Chevy, I have my first cataract surgery next Wednesday. Looking forward to getting the first one done but then have to wait 4 weeks for the next one.
I did not do that awful pumpkin pie joke MAGS! I love pumpkin pie but love sweet potato pie better.

Ah ha, that's the real Mitzi. That first dog's picture reminded me of the dog my coworker rescued. He was a chihuahua mixed with something odd, I can't remember what. Anyhow, we gave him the nickname 'perro feo', Spanish for 'ugly dog'. (Maybe not very good Spanish - I took German when I was in school.). I was being too polite to mention the resemblance!
Sas the update here is that I went back to work today. It was a long day. Just skimmed over everyone's posts, I'll have to catch up after I've gotten supper. No pumpkin pie, for sure!

Loverly, she is beautiful!!! I had a Belgian Tervuen. Same breed, different color fur, and more of it!! He was soooo smart. He'd watch out for DD when she was a baby, and rat her out if she was into something she shouldn't have been. Definately no dog park till she learns basic commands from your family. I have a great dog park, but some aren't as good. Be observant.

Mema, let me know how your surgery goes. I was told last year that I had cataracts and have been putting off the surgery. The thought of that bothers me more tha knowing I was having a BMX. Have trouble driving at night now due to glare.

DH got upset with me one rainy night when I was driving in the rain. DD wanted me to pick her up from work and get her to a store before it closed. Shh, don't t tell anyone but I had to use sunglasses. I told DH that if he hadn't insisted on coming he would never had known I had done it.

I was at a women's retreat all day. It was awesome, outside all day, interesting conversations, great food, and so much more. We topped off the evening with some nice wine, cheese and grilled veggies.
Cubbie- congrats on going back to work. Big step after going through at least the first part of treatment. Hope it went okay.

I had cataract surgery 3 weeks ago. There was nothing to it. Still using prednisone eye drops 4 x day. Remembering to do the drops is the hardest part. I only had one done. The other is less severe and not really causing me any problems. I have an eye doctor appt on 11/10 for new glasses. Right now I have none that work - prescription or over the counter. I don't wear them to drive, so that's not a problem.
DH and I just took the AARP driving course for older folks. Very good information. Our teacher showed us some amber glasses that increase the light. I'm definitely going to look for some. Pretty soon it will be dark at 4pm and will be raining. More light would help see all those pedestrians wearing black from head to toe.
I've adjusted my side mirrors and changed my seat so I'm not just 7 inches from the air bag. At 12 inches, I feel much less like it's going to kill me.

Wren: amber glasses for increasing the light for nighttime driving? Keep us posted. I would be interested. I'm probably too close to the airbag too. Drawbacks of being short.

Wren, definitely let me know about the glasses. Glennie, I'm with you on being vertically challenged. If an airbag deploys while I'm driving, I'm sure one of my body parts will get broken.

lovely dog lover. We had 2 Belgian sheepdogs before we got a small "wanna be dog" as we fondly call her.
Got test results back, clear agin...8 months this time. Never got passed 4 months before. Been blowing through these chemos to quick. Hopefully we fell on a good one. Keeping those suckers held off. Praise God. Buys me more time

My cousin had cataract surgery a couple years ago, and has been very happy with the result. It seems like it wasn't much more difficult than my LASIK surgery. What surprised him was how much brighter colors were afterward, aside from the improved night vision.

baby is due in May. She just received a care package from me with lots of pregnancy clothes I bought on line. She was soooo excited. Just one thing had yo be sent back. They. Will have so many loans to pay back from med school I like to help out.
Queen bee, I am heading up to see Claire in Michigan November 1st. I think that's a Monday. Maybe lunch??

I just looked up amber glasses for night driving on Google and found a couple of reliable sources saying any tint reduces the ability to see at night. They make things look brighter for the wearer who thinks they can see better. Research showed that wearers actually saw worse. Darn! It just sounded like a wonderful idea. Soon it will be dark at 4pm here and it's evidently illegal for pedestrians to wear anything besides black from head to toe. Talk about impossible to see.

HOOTIE Hoo !! Patty Peppermint is BACK ! I have been concerned.......ok, worried. So happy to see you. Hope better days are ahead for you. Have you lost every ounce of body fat possible? I got skinny during treatment, and that lasted until this summer.....Whoa, too much travel & food on the run. I have packed on close to 10 lbs in a few months.

Wren - darn. I was hopeful on the Amber glasses. I also am vertically challenged so sitting to close to steering wheel and can't see the lines on the road. I only drive on roads I know well at night.
HI1 - hugs. Love the jump for joy pic. I so wish I could do that ! Yes def one way to get skinny. Down to 101. Thanks to Saswho sent me those brownies to die for or I'd be under 100. Which mo don't like. To be honest I don't either. It feels weird to feel so many bones Sticking out without the fat to cushion them. Mo said eat anything I want. Just eat. So the last couple days I've had BlackBerry pie, cookies and cream ice cream, fudge : chocolate and peanut butter, french fries and a soda. Lol I don't want to see another sweet for a month. Switched to fresh fruit salad for breakfast today.

I definitely slept last night - didn't wake up at all until nearly 8, and I usually wake up once to use the bathroom in the wee hours.
Patty, I can see where you'd be tired of sweet stuff. When I had my dental surgery everybody was like, yay, all the ice cream you want! Trouble was, I really didn't want any after the first scoop. Mashed potatoes was my go to food instead.

Kath, I'll keep you posted! I know my night vision is going to be a bit haloed as the type of lense I'm going with will allow me to not use glasses anymore as well. But driving at night will be worse. I don't drive much at night which is good. Can't I use sunglasses to help?

Patty, All I did was push the seat back a tiny notch and recline the back rest a tiny notch and presto I was farther away. I can still reach all the pedals and see fine. My steering wheel is adjustable, who knew? I think it's fine the way it is tho. The seat belt height is also adjustable. I rarely listen to the radio unless I'm stuck in gridlock. When I bought this car it was tuned to a station I didn't like and it took forever to get around to changing it. While I was driving with no radio, I realized how distracting it really was. Fortunately I'm not sharing the car with DH who has much longer arms and legs.
