    OMAZ:

Not sure what's in Periden-C or how it works.  You can Google it for details.  I get it at my pharmacy.  You don't need a prescription for it but for some reason they don't keep it on the shelves in the store and I have to go ask for it - even had to ask them to order it the first time.  I moved and saw a new oncologist back in June and he told me about it and gave me a sample bottle of 50.  I could, I swear, tell a difference within 2 days!  I have had hot flashes every 45-60 minutes for nearly 3 years.  I took Effexor for a while, and it helped, but because of serious side effect I had to stop taking it for a while.  It was very difficult to come off it and I decided that I would never start taking it again.  Besides, the Periden-C works much better than the Effexor for me.  Since starting the Periden-C I have been able to sleep at night and able to eat a meal without sweat pouring off me.  I'm really ticked that nobody told me about it before now.  I promise I don't work for the company or own any stock or anything.  I just know I'm a different person nowadays!

DebinTN - Here is the link to the manufacturers website and some info from that site.  Seems like it would be worth a try - thanks!

What are the dietary ingredients in each tablet? Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) - 200 mg Hesperidin Complex (Bioflavonoids) - 150 mg Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone (Bioflavonoid) - 50 mg

How does PERIDIN-C help to alleviate hot flashes? PERIDIN-C improves capillary strength and maintains vascular integrity, reducing the physiologic potential for flushing.

Hi All:  Just saying I feel your pain.  I had been natually hot flashing from menopause a full decade before the BC.  For years there were periods that I could time them every 20 minutes.  I have considered anything under a dozen a day a REALLY stellar day and a night without as cause to declare a national holiday.  My physicians and I have always been in agreement that in consideration of all my medical conditions any treatment including the herbals were far too risky.  I have had to just suck it up and survive it. We are now talking 11 years. However, unlike others who have been on the AI's I find that the flashes have actually improved considerably over the last year that I was first on Aromasin and now on Anastrozole (Arimidex).  Not sure if it was the AI's or that I have simply lived long enough for them to finally begin to improve on their own.  My home and desk at work all look as if I have a serious fan fetish.  Barbara

LOL me too!  I keep a fan in my desk drawer at work, and carry one in my purse.

As regards supplements, maybe I'm the control group.  I don't take any meds for flashes.  But I'm interested in herbs and aromatherapy so may do some reading up on that.

Badger----they started Aroma therapy at the last hospital I worked at---the aides were responsible for going around and asking people etc. Without asking me one of the aides_CNA's stuck lavender under my nose>>>humongous headache like immediately and my left face went numb. Duh --forgot about that till right now ----

Omaz and Debbie----interesting about Periden-C-we should look into this. Odd that it's not OTC, but has to be asked for from the pharmasict.------says something different

Ren-----can you ask for Dh's comment or direction on this. I understand well if he doesn't want to comment on a drug. But the idea, that it has to be asked for from the pharmasict---I know there is a rule about this , but FORGET.           BTW----long ago comment from you about me being on Coreg,,,,, I made a comment right after you said the long acting form was working for you, that I had just gotten a 180 day supply for bid. Bummer

N3Y----------Yeah--------a communicative -nonanxiety PCP are worth their weight in gold.

SAS, wise women have been making medicine from leaves, roots & berries for centuries.  So many chemicals and compounds, and we don't even know the half of it!  (ps - rude CNA!)

Starak: Your desk looking like you have a fan fetish —  that really is laugh-out-loud funny!

SAS:  Thanks for being my memory...of course I don't remember asking you about your being on the Coreg! Oy! How many days do you have left? I'll ask DH when he gets home what's up with Periden-C.

Ren---------on the plan that I'm on to be on the Entended realese would be a problem, but if there is a specific reason that may change, I might be able to get a change-------so, I still have multiple months left. For me, I wrote the 1/2 cut in dosage for Norvasc , made a huge change in s.e.'s So, right now i'm pretty ok.  I'm not a sugar person--------but noticed a difference in response between orange(good) and grape(bad) gatorade--------isn't that odd.         My PCP tested me for food allergies fairly close to first contact. She was so on mark. It's a hoot.

I wish you could see the list, this company tests for 150 items. I could tell you story after story since. Primarily, I cut out coffee. Oddles of other things. I used to take Pepcid complete nightly or during the day and had been prescribed Prevacid by my GI doc. Well since her testing, I haven't had to take either since jan 2010. Prior to this--- years and years. Even though I drink alcohol and smoke. I only have reflux when i use certain things on the list. Pineapple and pumpernickel seeds cause gum swelling like gingivitis. Basil causes outrageous burps. On my list is Chicken----------whose allergic to chicken?---------immediately went off it------about a month ago tried it------------threw up. 2 weeks later tried it again---------nausea and abdominal pain and diarrhea next day. Each is a sensitivity, manifested in a different way, But considering Pepcid complete/ Tums was a nightly ritual or during the day ritual for years, and now know problem.---don't even have it in the house------------Duh--------she was so on mark  Cocoa on the list too--------but I do as Elizabeth(KK)did I allow it at different times and except the consequenses

Dh has never heard of this. It's a Vit C supplement. He does not think it woula have any effect on hot flashes. He called it "Obecalp" (placebo spelled backwards). !!

When I first started with AC in late March, I had intense night sweats and hot flashes.  They subsided and I barely noticed them any more.  Now had surgery Aug 17, and the hot flashes got much more intense and frequent again.  I guess any kind of stresses brings them on?

Omaz: Couldn't live without my fans!

I *am* worried about our flashing sisters in the wake of this hurricane.

No electricity + hot flashes = NOT GOOD. Hang in there ladies!!!

kay1963: That's a good question. Did you stop any meds or supplements before, during or after surgery?

Hot flashes (though far from delicate!) probably require a delicate balance in the body. Figures.

Sleep Sleep!!!!!! Oh how I want Sleep!!!!

Hi Ladies, this is a great thread!

Just prior to my diagnosis and MX I had begged my Doctor to give me something! I was miserable due to not getting any sleep! Oh sure the flashes came on during the day but, at night............as soon as I hit the pillow it seemed as tho someone started the fire. I would feel that funny inner quivering then the heat would start to build from the torso on up till my face was burning and sweat was pouring from places I never sweat before!

Oh, Ugh!! Off came the blankets, nitie etc! Off, On all nite! Burning, sweating then of course freezing due to cold clamy nakedness now! It was maddening and so bad I was in a sleep deprived stupor all day not to mention bitchy and cranky too! So, I was finally put on estrogen replacement. It was like heaven! Oh the beauty of Sleep!

Then about 2 months after being on this I had my first mammo and Lo and behold............BC!

    What a shocker!

Since my BC was er- and pr- there was no hormone treatments. I was already in menopause and since my BC was found just after starting estrogen replacement my doc let me continue to take it .........I know, I know...............maybe not the best thing but, it was saving my sanity haha!

Well, now I am done taking it, he would only let me stay on it for a few short years. So, now it;s back to sleepless nights and the internal combustion kicking in when least desired! ACK!!!!!

A Chillow sounds fantastic!! Where do I get me one of those???

Omaz.........good idea, no but I had to hunt down a regular fan last nite as my furnace fan for the airconditioner decided to take a hike yesterday.........whaaaaaaaaa! I was in the middle of some major cleaning and sweating like nuts, I thought OH man!!! Is it just me????? Or is it just hot!!!! Upon checking the thermostat I found that something was not working!

Talk about a sleepless nite last night! On the bright side tho at least the nites are getting cooler so windows open help somewhat!

Got to find a repairman now!

Yes , I know exactly what you mean hillck . Much better when it happens in a food store , cos then you can spend 15 minutes half in a freezer , I´ve even gone so far as to put frozen fish on each wrist ! God only knows what the store detectives or the people watching the CCTV screens were thinking .

Thankfully I live in Spain, so hand fans are quite the norm , I carry one in every bag I own . However , at the end of the day it is still an absolute pain in the rear . If only medical scientists could get to grips with this dreadful s/e of an even more dreaful diesease . Just take this one s/e awy , and life could become almost bearable again !

Here's a link to the "chillow" (http://www.ChillowStore.com/). I don't have one yet. The heat my head exudes at night amazes me. I am like flipper. I turn my pillow over and over and over all night long. I am also amazed that my DH doesn't wake up with all my flipping!

OMG....hahahaha Hillck and Renn and Jack, I can just see it all! Can you imagine if it was caught on video?????? Lmao! Might make good youtube stuff! heehee

I swear my poor DH gets very little sleep with all the flipping and flapping I do at nite! Why are the nites the worst???? I swear!

At least during the day at work I can make a fast exit outside, and flap my shirt up as high as I dare to get the temperature down! Cold towels around the neck work fast to but can add to the drippiness if too wet!

Ahhh, another sleepless flippin nite ahead with no aircon!

But I know exactly what you mean except it did happen to me... my grandsons (4 yrs and 18 months) call me on skype and it goes directly to webcam on my laptop when they hit the movie camera... there had been a few times when I had to quickly move the camera to my face because I had just stripped...Surprised

My DH hates my flippin and floppin all night.  I have the chillow and I love it and the remote fan is next on my list.  I keep a small one on my bedside table to stick my face in at night.  Have yall heard of the fan that actually attaches to the bed under the covers ?  What will they think of next.  I do notice that the more I exercise the better they are too.  I still am doing really well the the BlackCohosh(Menopret), I have the feeling of a flash, yes mostly at night, but dont really ever sweat like I used to.

Shannon that's great about the menopret. Just reinforces that there is something out there for each of us------we just need to find it.

That fan I recommened way back is almost like airconditioning. I'm just to cheap to run it.First few pages. Lasko and model number. Put it next to s atandard fan and it a way lot coooler.
