    Hi chickadee,

Yes you could start slathering. But I have been on X for a year and have had NO problems with hands or feet. Maybe if you start feeling sensitivity, then slather? lol. Of course it doesn't hurt to use lotion anyway. I have also never haf nausea at all. I do take the pills with a little food. I do have pretty constant problem with the big D, however. But I use Immodium when it starts and it does control it very well. I do have fatigue. I feel really worn out. But I figure I am very fortunate when I read what some women are suffering on X. I hope you will be lucky like me and X will be easy on you.

    Judie

TxGigi -- so good to hear from you!!  Glad you are doing well.  3 years is sooo AWESOME!!!  :)

Low  -- Where did you find this new Carmex cream?  What store...and which aisle?  Thanks Sweetie!!

Suz45 -- that is great the Methadone is working so well.  Yay!  Hey, don't worry what the name is...call them your happy pills or something.  ;-)  :)

Lynn, I found the Carmex cream at Walgreens last year and I think they still carry it, they have 2 different tubes of it and one is thicker than the other, I think it is the cream.  I had to give it to my daughter as smells can bother me and that one seemed to be one that bothered me, it is good stuff and I used it last year before I started on X but now that I have been on it for 8 months I can't use it.  I have been trying everything for my hand and foot problems and have not hit upon anything that seems to do it for me.  Everything I use seems to make my feet redder and hotter but I keep trying anyway.  If anyone has something that works let me know. I have used Bag Balm, Shea, Vanicream, Aveeno cream, am allergic to Aquafour but am open to any other suggestions.

Jeanie:  Thanks!  I'll check Walgreens this weekend.

Have you tried Udderly Smooth yet?  If not, get some -- preferably the version with Urea.  I also use a balm from CVS just called "heel balm" and it seems to work pretty well.

For the "hot" feeling, you can rest your feet on bags of frozen peas (or a squishy ice pack).  I know that is just a temporary fix, but it does feel good at the time.

Sorry your feet are so sore!!  Have you talked to the onc about possibly reducing the dose a little?

Just popping in to say my scans after 8 cycles show more improvement. So I am continuing with 2500mg a day and taking it easy on my hands and feet. The hfs is my only troublesome side effect, but I can put up with it if that cancer continues to DIE, DIE, DIE!

Wishing you all great success with X.

Coming off the Xeloda again after only 4 1/2 days (of cycle 5) at a reduced dose of 1000mg morning and evening.  My hands, my feet, my bones, my skin HURTs, my joints all feel sort of itchy. I have had to discontinue the past three cycles after 4 or 5 days. I want to stop.  I don't know whether that is the right decision and I wish the oncologist would say something besides "there's no right or wrong answer here"....when what she is really saying is that there is a right answer here but neither of us knows for sure what it is!   All we are treating are the microscopic remains from my single sternum met. I've had 6 weeks of radiation treating the entire sternum with generous margins and I believe I can finish this fifth cycle of Xeloda but I honestly believe my body is telling me I have had enough of this drug for now.  I am ready to start acting and feeling like I don't have cancer again, I am SICK of being sick from treatment, I really really need a break.  So, just out of curiosity, what do you think?  Is it really going to make THAT much difference whether I do 5 rounds or 6?

    Mary: Wonderful news!!

Sueper: Sounds like you've already made your decision.....I doubt that one cycle would make that much difference...my 2 cents for what they are worth. I'm sorry X made you feel so yucky! Hope now that you are done, you will start to feel better!

    Suepert13,

Sorry to hear that 2 x 1000mg are giving you such trouble; I am on the same and have had none of the listed side effects as it is a low dosage.  You are clearly very sensitive to this particular drug. I'm sure they can find something equally effective that maybe agrees better with your body.  Good luck!

I think when the SE's become intolerable a reasonable Dr will move on. You shouldnt have to suffer this much.

I'm only in my first cycle. Stomach issues but so far no HFS. Crossing my fingers cuz I'm sick of protocols that make me miserable too.

Me too. I'd probably kiss it good bye if I were you!

well Ladies, after almost a year on X it appears the cancer had learned how to get around it. I had a scan that showed worse mets in Liver and two new spots, a neck lymph node and suspicion of mets in the right adtenal gland (which is down around the liver aomewhere). So I started a clinical trial at MD Anderson last week for the drug Affinitor along with Arimidex. So we shall see how that goes.

I will miss being a Xeloda Diva but I will stop by and see how everyone is doing.

    Judie

I'm sorry that X wasn't the factor Judy.  I'm hoping good things for you with the next shot.

I know I posted this on my other thread but I thought it might cause a chuckle for us X Divas, old or new.  I decided to send a message directly to the source this morning.  If M&Ms can personalize their candy, why cant we personalize our "candy"

Hi, Well dang Judie. That is the s#its about the setback.  Hope you find another trt to rid the beast!  Sue, not sure how much not skipping the last trt will do, but I doubt the only thing it will probably work on is playing havoc with your head,  You are a strong woman and seem to have really put some aggressive trt on this bit of microsopic crap left from radiation.  I know you will make the decision that is right for you.  Hope you get to see the grandbaby again soon. I am finally settled on a 2500 dosage.  For such an expensive chemo it shouldn't have such ill effects, but it does for me. If its working I dont know yet.  Will do a couple more before more scans.  P.S.  Laughing my ass off at the post Chickadee.  Are they chocolate in the middle too?  Take care all Hunkydory

Lordy what is it with this Xeloda? Yesterday I was dragging, coughing, stomach hated me.

Today I feel like a million bucks. No symptoms, my taste buds are happy, no aches and pains. I'm confused. I've been beat up for months now nasty SE's from various treatments.

But hell I'll take a great day anytime. I hope these pills do what I hope they are doing. Think cancer got my message?

That's great, Chickadee! The ink probably mixed with the X to form a new superX drug. You should pioneer a new study.   ;)   Yay for good days!
