No problems with my nails either.  They seem to be normal but my hands have peeled.  I have only been on xeloda since January trying different dosages so I am not a very good person to ask,.  I do use the bag balm once a day and put socks on and I use another lotion for my hands.  Hunkydory

No side effects after three cycles.  2000 mg a day.  Was told yesterday that if it works, then there is no need for large doses but if it doesn't appear to be working then it will be increased a bit.  I was told that doctors often give unnecessarily large doses and that Xeloda can be very effective at lower levels, and therefore fewer side effects.  I think it does also have something to do with height and weight - I am short and have lost 11 kg since my diagnosis (although some of that was due to steroid piggery, I say in my defence!), so that may be why the lower dose has been prescribed.

I am on my 3rd round of Xeloda. A 14/7 regimen. 1000mg twice a day. I am stage 3. I have not seen any other stage 3'ers on Xeloda. Are there any here that any of you know about? I have found that I have more energy on my Xeloda days than my week off. I don't know if that is a combo w Wellbutrin or armoir thyroid I take. At first it was overwhelming energy, like speed. But now it is just evenly more energetic. I take naps almost every single day I am off of it.

Hi Twistedsteel (cute screen name btw!) and Welcome!!

I don't think I've seen anyone Stage III here, but I could be wrong.  Of course you're still welcome here - a Diva is a Diva, no matter the stage!  :)

Oh how I wish Xeloda gave me more energy!  That would be so awesome. It doesn't cause me fatigue either really though.  Sometimes I am tired, but I can't say for sure it's the Xeloda, or just being busy in general.

Any one have bone or muscle pain with Vit X??? Last night I had such extreme pain in my hips and legs and feet that I actually had to take pain meds and I need them again this morning. I mean I really have a high pain tolerance and do not take meds for much, even for very long after surgery.

I have bone/muscle pain on X. Asked my MO and he said it was anastrozole though.

3 more days of Lady X and I am taking a month off. Joy joy-no pills for a month. Hoping my hands and feet will come back around before I start up again in June.

I will say this-my hair is finally growing-like a weed. And last night I found out I need to shave my legs. Not sure if it just took that long for the Herceptin effects to go away or wether X is a magic hair potion. Could have done without the leg hair since summer is here....

Well, divas, I'm done for now.  I saw the onco today and we agreed that surgery, 28 rads and FIVE rounds of Xeloda was enough treatment for my single sternum met...most of which was removed in the surgery.  I feel SO glad as I felt my body was telling me I was reaching my limit of Lady X---I   had bad HFS, no peeling just really red and painful and creepy-crawly sensation on the tops of my feet and the backs of my hands.  On the last round, I upped my B6 hoping that would help with the HFS and it did--but I got such horrible nausea that I thought I was going to need the end-of-the-world suppository in the fridge!! So I took that as a sign that I should not do the sixth round, and I am comfortable with that.  If the cancer comes back, it won't be because I did not do this last round of chemo.

Much, much love to all of you.  HunkyD, I sent you a PM

    Love,

    Sue

Sue - Congrats on finishing up with X.  You still need to visit us and let us know how things are going.  I hope you continue to do well and enjoy your new found freedomLaughing, away from X.  Much love and joy to you.

I am on my 3rd cycle of xeloda and I noticed that my left leg was swelling. I had an ultrasound to see if it was DVT, and it was negative for that. Now I've noticed a swollen inguinal (groin) lymphnodes on the same side. It's the weekend so I can't call the onc. Anyone else experience this?

    Thanks!

My left leg/ankle swelled quite a bit. Checked for DVT. ok there. Apparently it's fluid retention. Haven't heard whether Doc wants to do something but I'm watching my salt intake, elevating my fat foot when I can and using those miracle socks for mild compression. Still can't get in my favorite sandal yet though.

Just finished my second cycle of Xeloda/Tykerb, and aside from some diahrrea, the worst side effect I'm having is sensitive lips. I've read of people getting mouth sores, but I'm not sure that is what I have. Basically, my lips burn terribly when I eat anything like ketchup or taco seasoning or drink wine (beer seems to be fine). I also have to be careful about how I brush my teeth as toothpaste causes a burning sensation. Has anyone had this SE or something similar? Lip balm really doesn't touch it, so I am wondering if there is something else I could try.

I learned today that I will start xeloda. I have been on abrxane for my bone marrow mets resulting in low counts ( platelets and RBCs) but it is only driving them lower ( though my TMs have dropped in half).  I have been reading this thread and I m so thankful to have a place where I can find real world info on this drug.  I am sure I will be back with questions.  Hugs to all

Im experimenting with elevating my HGB count by taking a tablespoon of Brer Rabbit Black Strap Molasses everyday.   Won't know for a month if it helped, but it can't hurt.  Seems like it would taste awful but it ain't half bad.  Really good in an ice milk drink.  Dilute the Molasses with a bit of water and then add milk and ice.  Tastes like a coffee shop drink.

So far, left ankle still a bit swollen.  Hair thinning I think.  Lots of strands fall out.  Fatigue and windedness may be related to the blood counts.  Gastro issues on day 6 and 7 for sure, then I get to recover for 7 days.  I in the week off now.

I've done one 14 day on, 7 day off round and one 7 day on and I'm now in 7 day off.  So I'm pretty new to this stuff too.  After the year I've had, this has been so much more manageable and I hope it works.

So, having no side effects until i was hit on Thursday am with the whammy of nausea and vomitting. Was not sure if it was that X or the pain pill I took. So last night I decided to forego the anti nausea meds and see..................it was the X. Spent half the night in the bathroom having both ends going.   BLAH!!!!! So now we will always take our antinausea pill.

Welcome Mari!  Sorry you've had to join us, but I hope you find Xeloda easier than Abraxane.  I sure do!!  Will be happy to help with any questions I can.

Kimberly:  So sorry about your tummy issues.  I take a Prilosec every day and it really helps me.  I forgot one day - just one - and I regretted it....won't do that again!  Hope you are feeling better today.

It did for me!  I know it's more for acid reflux and stuff, but it helps me with just overall tummy stuff.  May not help everyone, I know, but still wanted to share just in case someone else might get some relief by using it too.  Couldn't hurt to try I guess!

Prilosec helped with my nausea from Xeloda, too! I thought the nurse was blowing me off when she suggested it-- but I tried and it did work. For awhile when my dosage was higher, I was taking the Prilosec twice a day (suggested by my doc). My lower dosage of Xeloda means I'm back to once a day, thankfully. That stuff is expensive. The generic versions don't work as well for me. But there is almost always a $2 off coupon on the prilosec website or coupons.com

The Prilosec definitely helped with my nausea.  At first I only took it once in the morning but I still had nausea so she told me to take it at night as well and that helped too.   I HATE nausea, though, I admit to being a nausea WIMP.

We're on our way driving over to Georgia for a week to visit family. We are in a hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas right now and we have our dogs, Lois the greyhound and Fray the husky with us.  Today was a good day!

Wishing everyone a restful night with no bad side effects.

    Love,

    Sue
