With many new friends here in our BC/BC thread starting treatment and/or surgery, I am wondering if we could/should think about postponing our get-together scheduled for Nov. 21 to January. That way more women may be able to attend. Thoughts/comments?

OK, it is official. Our get-together for women in BC is postponed to January, 2016 from November 21. This way we will have many more women who are able to come and I look forward to seeing old friends as well as new ones.

Hi all. There is a lympedema conference this Saturday at the children's hospital in Vancouver. You have to pay (50 $ I think) register to attend. Google BCLA to register.(. British Columbia Lymphedema Association )This is where the top notch lymphedema experts will be this weekend. I am going because I need to learn more about breast cancers dirty little secret.Lymphedema. I have it and it's not fun. You can reverse it if you are early ,early stage one. Not me. I'm stuck with it and it's life changing but Ia getting smart and educated in it. Yup ..I daily wear those annoying compression sleeves and gloves that are necessary to keep swelling at bay and I get my lymphatic system drained on the affected quadrant by a professional lymphedma therapist See you there

So it starts today. I have my injection and scan at Nuclear Medicine this afternoon and tomorrow I will have the lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I'm so nervous about this whole thing. And then the wait starts. The terrible wait.
Hope everybody had a nice weekend. Take care!

Goldie, I will be thinking of you these next two days and will be hoping for the best of course. The "waiting game" as I have always called is rough and all I can say is try to stay busy and as positive as possible. Once you are up and about after the lumpectomy, plan some fun things that will help to take your mind off the wait/thoughts that are bound to happen.

Goldie, hope for the best! I have had two lumpectomies since July and was more nervous the second time thinking the margin could be positive again. One of the things I have learned since my DX is that there are things I can not control, there are also these that I can, take things one at a time. There is a healer in everyone, never give that up! Mind, body, spirit. I just had my first counselling at BCCA today to deal with anxiety, also have re-visited my diet (I have been eating a lot of organic foods for more than a decade, but now am minimizing animal-based foods, vegetable oils, and focusing on plant-based whole foods), doing the exercises that make me happy and relaxed. I am taking Chinese herbal (prescription) med as well as nutritional supplements (incl. multi, Vit D, C, B complex, melatonin, digestive enzymes, CoQ10, Grapeseed extract, fish oil), did some juicing when the weather was warmer but now find it too cold for my system, and also started coffee enemas to detox (the liver) after much hesitation (I am sensitive to caffein but enemas seem fine! Some people I know have been doing them and seen improvements in their overall health).
A lady who visits the same natural-path office recommended the following to me, some of them I had come across before my DX:
*Netfix documentary FORKS OVER KNIVES
**YOUTUBE documentary THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH
***book A RACE FOR LIFE by Ruth Heidrich who was also diagnosed with breast cancer
****book THE CHINA STUDY by Dr. T.Colin Campbell (A present from my daughter years ago)
Have a good rest. You have my prayers!

Mariane: just found out why my DX etc was not visible because it needed to be turned to public from private! Just another example that there is a lot learning for BC!

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to keep you ladies updated. The last few days have been hard. Monday, had the injection and scan. Oh boy that injection. It really hurts even though it was only for a few seconds, but it hurt. Then Tuesday I had to have a fine wire put on because the lump could not be felt. Oh boy again, that was more pain for about 30 minutes. That was not nice. The surgery itself went fine and today I have been taking it easy. Luckily I don't have much pain from the surgery but my boob is blue as well as my urine. Now the wait starts. That will be painful.
BeachLife, I have thinking about revisiting my diet a bit, but I normally have a healthy diet. I do not eat organic though. I might have to change that.
Thank you all for your good wishes. I'm back from two days of being out of commission. Now lots of rest. See you all!

The blue urine vanished in a couple of days but the boob a couple of weeks for me. Take care!0

Godlieone, thanks for the post and glad it is all behind you. Like you say, lots of rest and really do take it easy!

Went to my doctor today as my shoulder has been bothering me for about three months.. Finally "bit the bullet" and went to find out if "it" was back. Relived to find out it is "only" bursitis. So now no using my arm..see a orthopedic surgeon in a few weeks hopefully he will give me a cortisone injection. I have been going to massage therapy as well as acupuncture.. Helps the rest of my body but not my shoulder

Ossa: I can imagine what a relief it was to rule it out as a BC-related problem, and there are ways to fix it! Living with BC in the background is such a life-changing experience, you simply can not undo it. Mammogram did not find my tumor, I do not even know why I should do it in the future. In the States, women with dense breast tissues can do MRI paid by insurance, but not here. I may have to do MRI in another country out of my own pocket.
Take care!

Ossa, hope that you are able to get treatment that helps for the bursitis and that there is improvement sooner than later. I stupidly stood on our dining room table yesterday to take out a lightbulb and slipped and fell~~could have been much worse but possibly sprained my ankle. Oh, well, time to learn how to slow down a bit.
Goldieone, hope you are healing well. BeachLife, I know how hard it for those of us with dense breasts. Mine were small and dense and my mammogram 7 months before I found my own lump said "come back in 2 years." It was frustrating at the time but now I just know that nothing is infallible.
Potluck get-together was postponed in hopes more of you who are in active treatment and/or surgery can come. I would like to propose Saturday, January 9. Please let me know how that looks. I sent an email to the list from last year but two bounced back and it may be that I can't read the writing. but Carrie 61 and also Darlene (not sure of BCO name).
Namaste,
Marian

Ossa, good to hear that it was nothing related to BC. Like BeachLife says, we will live in fear that any symptom could be related and also if it will come back.
This past week after the surgery has been OK for me. I'm at my daughter's house in Maple Ridge and they are taking good care of me. Seeing my granddaughter every day with that beautiful little smile makes me really happy and a big hope for moving forward and fighting for the things that I want and hoping that we don't have to go through this trauma again.
January 9 so far looks good to me. I have this Thursday (if the results are in) the appointment with the surgeon and then she will tell me what are the next steps according to the results.
