Life on aromasin

it looks like it would be lo carb to me, but I have had an addiction to bread for so long...but then again, not really having many side effects although, anxious to see how I feel at the end of my 5 years....count down is about 6 weeks now!0 -
Proud, there are low carb bread products out there. Low carb tortillas are delicious. I eat them all the time and purchase in my local grocery store. I have also gotten low carb bagels which are good, but not great. The trick is to put a lot of goodies on top, such as peanut butter, low fat cheese etc.0 -
thanks yorkie, will look for them
right now I am messed up on my system and trying to up my probiotics, I took too many antibiotics and my system is now a mess!0 -
Can Aromasin/Exemestane make you clumsier? While walking toward a friend yesterday I twisted my ankle and fell. I was looking toward him and must have missed the transition from the sidewalk to the muddy grass. I fell on my hands and knees into the grass, better than falling onto the sidewalk no doubt. The scariest, most distressing thing is that it happened so fast and was so unforeseen that I barely had time to react. By the time I felt the ankle pain I was already putting my hands out to land on the ground. I guess my guardian angel must have directed my path to the grass and didn't mind the "Damn!" that escaped from my lips! Not really sore until last night. Today there's bruised knees, a bruised sore ankle and foot, and lots of general soreness. I think when you have fibromyalgia you just hurt more to begin with. Lots of icing and a bit of ibuprofen seem to help. Could have been much, much worse.0 -
Sorry you had that terrible fall and scare corky! Before my diagnosis, I had two bad falls, a couple of years apart. I think some of this may be age related, at least for me. I haven't had any falls since starting Aromasin.0 -
Thanks yorkiemom and glad to hear you recovered from the falls.0 -
The whole 30, I'm going to look up too. After a 5 week break, I stopped Aromasin and the pain practically went away and brain fog was beginning to lift. I was feeling hopeful, the worst was behind me.
I just started Tomoxifen and have only taken it for 3 days and the pain is back, in full force. So I'd love to check out your diet to see if it could help.

yes. It is very low carb. No grains. No dairy. No sugar. No alcohol. No legumes.
But I have no cravings at all. Lots of energy and sleeping so much better. I definitely recommend it. Helping Fibro pain too.
Doxie- I have not used splints or wrapped my fingers...yet! Does it help?0 -
I gained on AI's but as soon as I went on the Paleo diet I lost 30pds in about 4 months. It just melted away. I felt better eating fresh greens and cutting out carbs. I love carbs but have switched over to nuts. Pistachios are addicting and great antioxidants.
AI's can cause motor skill problems. Because it can cause arthritis/arthralgia that too can cause you to fall. I move very slowly these days and drive half the speed I used to. I do the speed limit now. LOL.
Camillegal - your symptoms earlier sounded like Lupus to me. I think we tend to get focused on SEs from Aromosin when we could have another auto immune disease at play. Not trying to scare you but not unusual to find co-morbidities. Lupus is more deadly and not to be ignored.
I think only those of us who have SE's post here. There are probably lots of people who go about their daily live with no problems but, unfortunately, I'm not in that %. I thought I could make it with the arthritis, fatigue, and malaise, but never expected flu-like syndrome. Could you live with the flu (symptoms) on and off every week??
Most people say the SEs go away pretty fast when they take a break. That was my case with Arimidex, so maybe we should see if yearly vacations are earned.
Hugs,
Kat0 -
Katarina I don't have Lupis Thank God, my GF had that for years and died about 2 yrs ago from cancer, I guess it trumped Lupis--but she had a painful life and it didn't stop her, I don't know how she did it. Thx Katrina.
I hear more women with trigger finger, I don't have it, but I know what it is nd it' such a strange thing to have--It's the bone part right? I sounds miserable tho. How can all of u be so disaplined with food, I wish I could I know yes I should but I have none.0 -
Cami, Trigger finger/thumb is caused by the narrowing of the sheath that surrounds the tendon. Lack of estrogen directly effects that type of tissue in our bodies. Therefore all our hip, knee, ankle, hand and finger pain. Dry eye, dry vaginal area, etc. What's frustrating is that I've not done anything to set it off. I was supposed to do deep cleaning this weekend to prepare for Thanksgiving at my place, but instead read to keep from further hurting my hand. Is this triggered by emotions? I had to put down one of my kitties yesterday for kidney disease. He was only nine, but was skin and bones, not eating or drinking enough water to sustain his life with any quality.
Ginger, Both joints are swollen and painful on my thumb so I decided to be very proactive. I had an old hand/wrist brace that holds the thumb in a firm but flexible position, so I used that to sleep in. I almost threw it out last week. Bought a finger splint which was quite comfy, but keeps the joint very immobile. I've read this work, so I'll report back on how it has helped. At least it keeps me from being in pain and needing to take a NSAID.0 -
Oh doxie, condolences on the loss of your kitty. You did the right thing but it is so, so hard to do. Gentle hugs to you, hon.0 -
Kat!!! I did take a break from aromasin, and it helped tremendously with the side effects, when I did restart it!! I will be on it for 10 years, so 2 1/2 years to go!! I have found the trick to losing weight for me, is a low carb and no sugar diet!!! I exercise a lot now, and drink lots of water!! It is so hard with the holidays coming up!! Have a great day, everyone, Kathy0 -
Kathy I envy you! I simply have to eat carbs or I have zero energy. And I have a terrible sweet tooth. I am eating more veggies to try to cancel out the carbs LOL Several servings a day of green beans or broccoli, or peas. etc.
Hope we can go for a walk soon. Let me know when you are free. We can meet at your place and walk to the beach maybe? Or just go for coffee? Either one---0 -
Dogs, when I first went on a low carb diet, years ago, the first thing I noticed was how much my appetite decreased. Good that you're eating lots of veggies! I need to do more of that.0 -
Hi, Dogs and Jogs!! I would love to go for a walk sometime with you!!! The next couple of weeks are a little crazy, but after Thanksgiving? Can you pm me your phone number!! I wish all you ladies could join us as well!!!0 -
Thank you, corky. At least I still have his sister and my Doxie. Helps with the grieving.0 -
Doxie I am so sorry about u'r kitty. We all know it has to be done, but when it's time it's horrible. It's just so sad to let go.0 -
Doxie, so sorry for the loss of your dear furbaby. I'm slowing losing mine to a brain tumor. It hurts, but I'm here for her until the end. Am up with her right now, in the middle of the night, per usual, dealing with the SEs. Tomorrow we start her on Valium, so hoping she and I get some rest! (((HUGS)))0 -
Oh Yorkie I'm so sorry.0 -
Thank you Cami. Been going through this for awhile, but it's getting progressively worse. We had "the talk" from our vet last week. Chloe has been on an anti-anxiety med, but it's not strong enough, so moving on to Valium. Vet said we need to think about her quality of life, and what she would want to make life worth while. We decided mobility and eating. She still loves to eat, especially the treats I give her to get down the meds lol. She falls over pretty frequently, but always gets back up.
I do not want to make that decision! Hoping she goes peacefully in her sleep someday instead. Thanks for "listening!"0 -
Yorkie I had that decision once and it was horrible I cried for 2 weeks I will never do that again. Let them go naturally as long as they can, I agree with you, of course anyway is terrible but I still remember the look Oohhh.

Thank you all. Yorkie, sorry you are going through this too. This is the first time I have every had to have a pet put down. They've always just died. This kitty was slowly starving and dying of thirst. It was a terrible way to go. And terrible to watch. He was probably only going to live another week or so. He's at peace now.0 -
Dear Doxie and Yorkiemom! So sorry to hear about your beloved pets!! Our pets are our family and it is never easy to lose them!! Thoughts and prayers!!! Kathy0 -
Doxie and Yorkiemom - I'm so sorry to hear about your kitties. I lost my soul kitty back in May - he was glued to my side when I was going through my chemo treatments. He would sleep/stay with me for hours on those bad days in bed....
note - on the walking - it really helps with body aches and makes you feel so much better to be outside.
Kindergarten - I saw above you mentioned you are taking aromasin for 10 years. Did you start with tamox and switch or doing the entire treatment on aromasin? I have similar dx as you and my new oncologist (changed 2 years ago) wanted me to stay on Femara for 7 years minimum. I am tolerating it well (what other choice) but I am having high cholesterol values and diet changes don't seem to make much difference. I'm wondering about switch to aromasin?
Also, reading some of your diet changes above -- they sound great!! and similar to what I do except for cereal grains. How do you get fiber which I need to help flush cholesterol out? I eat lots of salads, fruit, veggies, seafood and poultry - no red meat and minimal dairy. I use almond milk after switching from coconut milk shich I thought might impact my labs - avoid soy as I don't even like the taste. not fond of beans or rice either.

Thanks for the support everybody. Eleven years ago my beloved Cairn got terminal kidney disease. I kept her going as long as possible, but it reached the point that she could not even raise her head, much less walk. I had to put her down and it was heartbreaking. Just don't want to go through that again. DH said the bottom line for him would be if Chloe is in pain. Vet said that probably won't happen due to the location of her tumor. I hope not but read here about people with brain mets having bad headaches.
Regarding fiber I really need to do better with that. On a low carb diet one has to be very careful with grains. But lots of nuts are low carb, and veggies also. Just need to take the time to put more of those things in my diet.
Have a great Tuesday!0 -
Hi, cp418! I have been on aromasin the whole time! I was in menopause when I was first diagnosed, so tamoxifen was not recommended!! It is a very doable aromatose inhibitor!! I did take a break from it for 8 months, but when I went back on it, my side effects were minimal!!! I get my fiber by eating lots of fruits and vegetables!!! Love apples and broccoli!!! It sounds like you are doing great with your diet!!!
Have a great day!!!!0 -
Kathy, me too on getting my fiber from veggies! I remember the nuitritionist at the cancer center when I was starting rads, recommended getting vitamins and fiber from the real stuff! I also remember learning about Kale, before it was a cool veg! I believe I am eating healthier than prior to all this junk0 -
Proudtospin, I am eating better as well since my diagnosis!! I wish I would have eaten better before that!! Since moving to CA, I have discovered kale!! Love it!!! I guess it is never to late to adopt a healthier life style!! We are off for a walk now!!0 -
I like veggies that keep for me in the fridge for a few days, broccoli and kale are both good there! I even found a website that is all about kale....called 365 days of Kale and created by a survivor and nutritionist! some good ideas on it0
