Have been getting in 20,000 steps a day
Yikes!
My feet are tired just thinking of it - good for you !0 -
Carol, After the white knuckle driving you probably have tensed up a bit. I think a lebed opening or mld is in order just to relax the whole body. So you are dodging snowflakes and we dodge raindrops! They can both be nasty!
On track with my program but certainly way not near 20,000 steps. That would certainly keep you focused on exercise! You wouldn't even have time to think about what you want to pop into your mouth. Good strategy Becky.

Okay, so I've been doing my cork-tossing religiously, and now find if I miss it I don't sleep or feel as well. Who knew?
But as for MLD, I haven't been doing it for some time because I developed LE in my right leg and was then unsure of where to "send" the fluid from the upper quadrants. SO! I finally started a therapy intensive for my leg this week with my amazing Therapist Jane, and though I find it, uh, constraining to be back in treatment, I have to say it's a huge relief, and Therapist Jane assures me this will be a relatively easy fix. Fortunately she's both experienced and inventive, so she's come up with my very own "designer MLD pattern." Between frustration and relief I feel like an emotional yo-yo, so the jogging and corking continues to be a big help. I am SO GRATEFUL for Therapist Jane, and just want to encourage everyone again to land somewhere with a therapist they trust, because you never know when you'll need an arm to lean on.
<sigh!>

Binney, So you have been getting corked lately? Sorry, I just couldn't resist the pun.
Your corgi must be walked, so... maybe you will have to take the corks in your backpack and drop them like Hansel and Gretel and then have the dog pick them up on the return route. You won't get lost walking either.
Good to hear about you getting a new MLD session for the leg. What do think tipped off leg LE?
Did my walk, stretch MLD for the day. Will do lebeds opening at night. Been lazy about tai chi breather. Must spank myself.

Today was a simple yoga session. Tomorrow is legs day! Love legs day.
Admiring my ripped gastrocs!

So glad to hear you will be getting relief for the leg, Binney. So much to deal with ... and You are soooooo right about a good therapist - worth their weight in gold ! This is why I get sad to see ppl giving up on finding one. I know hugz was the first to push me to pursue mine and several of you ladies, yourself included , encouraged em to do so. I am lucky to have her.
Btw, for those who wear their sleeve ONLY for exercise, my LEist today said she always suggests to keep it on for 1 hr afterward - just a thought since I am on the exercise forum. Speaking of which, I did nothing but the rebounder and a walk today. I MUST catch up starting tomorrow .. and 2 hrs of MLD tonight

Wow, 2 hours of MLD sounds like a lot! Purple, do you notice a lot of extra benefit when you do two hours vs. say, 30 minutes? My routine takes no more than 30 minutes, although when I'm feeling particularly LE-icky, I do sometimes slow it way down or do several full sequences in a row, but never for two full hours. That takes a lot of patience.
Today I managed 5.3 miles of walking, but just around the house, nothing cardio. I was working and also taking lots of time from work to organize my overstuffed kitchen cabinets and drawers, so I never took the time to just exercise and get my heartrate up. Tomorrow that will be a must.

Binney - if I don't work out I don't sleep well.
That's awesome about a great therapist.
I need to pursue getting back to one ... But so much red tape. Not sure which is more stressful ...
Praying for that leg.0 -

Yes. Big difference, Carol ,. but ony because anytime it is more than 30 mins ., it's the expert ( my LEist) doing it-= not me.She does moves that I really dont/cant do on myself. She does more intercostal and sternum work that I find difficult to get the hang of. I think that is great for the truncal.
She sometimes starts by opening up the terminus for 20 mins. which I generally spend just a few mins on .
I also find that I am getter technique the more I go there because I was initailly taight by someone who was not very compteetent. This LEist sees my ' circles' and stops me. No no no! She says I was essentially just moving fluid round and round into a circle , sending it nowhere. She is LANA certified and is a trainer for the Vodder school and travels the country teaching others so I do trust her.
When I leave there, my rings fit ( temporarily of course so I dont wear them) so yes , the proof is in the pudding.

Yep, and in that mad dash for the restroom following treatment!Dawne-Hope, thank you! You know how much that matters to me.
Hugs,

No circles? Purple, what? Youre not supposed to do circles?
What do you do then? Just stretch the skin in the direction you want the fluid to go?0 -
I was told, more like half circles.
0 -
Victoria, Yes half circles but imagine a full circle.
For Vodder method: Lets take your neck for example. Starting at front of the side of neck stretch skin back like drawing a line then stretching down making a letter "C," then release skin and ride up(imagine a circle) to the begining of the line you drew. That would complete the circle. Repeat.
Picture a the letter "P" that fell on its face) Can anyone explain it better?
0 -
No nibbana, it is more complex than that, but NOT full circles.
It IS indeed difficult to articulate.
My LEist calls them " amputated J's". It does help me to realize where/when to release. The release is very important and also it is important that the hand NOT come off the skin at the time of release. Just release the motion (only)

We need some videos that include animations to show the various strokes. That would be very helpful.
I had a power day today. Got up early and jogged my way to five miles, and then did another treadmill mile at the gym, where I also did my weights workout. Add in some walking around in daily life and I managed 7.6 miles today. Now: bed, 'cause I'm tired!

Carol. I didn't know you could jog 5 miles. Wow that is great. I walked 45 minutes and jogged 2 minutes. (yes, 2 minutes not 22 minutes) That was plenty jogging for me. I hate jogging, although it does keep my arms at a 90 degree angle.
So I am game to try anything once. I went to laughter yoga for the first time and boy that was a hoot. They say 10 minutes of laughter equals 20 min of jogging endorphins. I have to agree. I felt so light and airy when done. I felt restore and happy. I think I am going to try more by following a You tube. It really gets your lungs going and then it detoxifys your body because of all the oxygen that you are taking in. I can see this being really good for the lymphs although it is a lung breath not a diaphram breath. It really makes your thirsty and breathing heavy at times.
I wonder if there are LE studies on laughter yoga. Nitocris where are you when I need your research!
Did lebed opening.

You're right, carol...a video would be excellent, and I know there are some/youtubes. Even still, I actiuually have to look, see, watch, feel, with a LIVE therapist and it is subtle/difficult. Of course, as my therapist says - she's been doing it for 18 yrs. So, I don't know what the 'perfect' answer would be .
In the meantime, I find myself getting off the track on exercise here. I was doing it before work and then , as time allowed, after work as well. Now , if I dont fit my AM workout in ,.... I am at least halfway behind ( grrrr) and yet, here I am on the computer.Sometimes, I swear I think I'm going to miss out that they found the cure for BC or LE while I was sleeping!
Btw, if you search Kathy Fleming on youtube, I believe my therapist is there.

Hugz, I did not do the five miles all in one shot, I did it in three increments, and believe me, I am a sloooooow jogger. It definitely makes me breathe harder than my 4 mph walking pace, but it's not running. I've never timed myself, but I think my pace is probably only about 4.5 mph when I jog. I suppose if a bear was chasing me, I could run 5 miles at a respectable pace, but fortunately there have not been any bear sightings this far south in Michigan for years! Today I think there might be some snow shoeing on the agenda. Right now, we have a lot of wind and blowing snow, but if the wind dies down and the sun comes out, I know how I want to do my cardio exercise this afternoon.

hmmm just got an e mail from my cute little personal trainer. He is in PHD program currently (when not training or teaching) and wants to do an interview for one of his classes! His specialty is cancer patients and has writtend a program that Cancer Ins of NJ will be offering through their Oncos...hopefully!
So will do so on Sun after our session, you would think after all my yaking and talking during our sessions he would already have a lot on me....actually he does but guess he was not taking notes.
if he needs more folks for his class, will direct him here! I do think he is still not aware of how the treatment has changed what I can do. He did not know me before all this junk. I know my strength on the left is just not the same as before all the junk-rads and surgery and now the LE stuff. Should be interesting.

You guys will get a kick out of this - I was trying to figure out what the heck purple and carol were saying about the C/J thing for MLD, even tried to follow their steps, and went away thinking I must do it differently. Well last night I was doing my MLD before bed and guess what (light goes on) that's exactly what I do!
0 -
Ha! Yeah, I was doing MLD last night and I was thinking, "Ok, no circles!" It's going to take awhile to get the C/J thing down.

Not sure how moving around with play out this weekend. We have Fam coming. Maybe I can talk them into a boardwalk. Did my lebeds opening and tai chi breathers so far.

Had my eye surgery yesterday. Doc talked about 3 procedures he might do, one a simple, 1/2 hour stent install, next replacement of part of the tear duct (2-3 hours) total bypass of tearduct (4+ hours) He was able to do the partial tear duct replacement.
Not doing to badly, a little sore but vision is fine maybe improved already, so that's the important thing.
But to make this LE related GRRRR no rebounding, no bending, nothing strenuous AT ALL until my recheck, which is March 14th.

Glad you are doing well. Yikes, this may be in my future.

Cindy, the best thing you can do is to follow doctor's orders! Exercise can wait, and you'll have plenty of time later to recapture anything that you may have lost in that arena. Best wishes for a seamless, comfortable recovery.
I had a great exercise day today. Did my 10,000 steps at home this morning, and then this afternoon DH, the poodle, and I went out to our snowshoe trail, doing a bit more than usual. It was precipitating a little--like a snow that melted on body contact, so almost misty. We walk through a very large forest on foot trails, and well, it was gray but incredibly beautiful. Total miles today 8.6. The showshoeing was feel-good challenging, with lots of hills and tons of really deep snow. I'm whipped!

I've started the metabolic training again ... where you don't stop ... go from one exercise to another and end it with hard interval training on the bike and that is the best way for me to exercise. We've experimented a lot ... but the not stopping, the hard cardio at the end ... my fingers and hands look and feel tonight than they've looked in weeks. I think I'm done experimenting.
carol - just reading about your day makes me tired. Great job!
0 -
But Dawne-Hope, unlike your metabolic training...I take rests! I think your program sounds like a real heart-thumper! Congrats to you!

Yeah thanks Carol. I've been lazy all day... The dogs are getting spoiled.

Cindy1 - did he do both eyes. You're the first person, besides me, that I've seen that had to have this surgery - did you have chemo? Mine was caused by the taxotere, and I had two temporary stents put in (one in each eye) to hole them open and allow them to heal, then the took the stents out. They gave me those three options also - for if they couldn't get the temp stents through - though they did say that they would only do one eye at a time if they had to do the more extensive surgery. Though it was painful for a few days, and I couldn't wear make up for several weeks - my tearing slowed immediately and within a week it was normal, except that I could feel the stents when I blinked. It was so worth it!!!!! Take care of yourself, you want it to heal well.

Can't remember when I last posted but got in 15,000 steps the last two days plus weights yesterday. Thursday I did it in increments of 15 minutes throughout the day on the treadmill or in the hallways at work. Yesterday I did most of the 15,000 at once in a nice long walk at the dam. I am almost loving the 129 steps up to the top. NOT! Weather will probably be keeping me in today so will go back to the increments. Still stuck on the weight loss journey but not gaining.
