Aw, GMA, that rots! How about chair exercises--are they out too? Whatever you can manage counts!

BTW, I'm still house-jogging faithfully, tossing corks in a bowl to keep track of my mileage. Gets everything that's out of place back to it's proper location as I pass back and forth (and back and forth, and back and forth…aaugh!) through all the rooms, picking up what everyone has left lying around. The dogs love it, so it's something of an obstacle course as well, as I try to avoid being thrown into the wall by our speedy Doodle or tripped by the agile little Corgi. I'm assuming that must be good for balance, don't you think? A well-rounded work-out! (No weights for me, as even at very low levels they wreak havoc with my right arm and left hand.)

I hate making the time to do this every day, so I'm grateful that all of you are here persevering and challenging me to keep at it--sigh!

Binney, now I have the vision of you dodging the dogs! of course it is a balance test!

was talking to a pal at the gym....she was complaining about her own balance issues but I saw her balancing on one of the Bosum balls....I need an arm to do that myself!

Binney, I took your house-jogging reminder as a motivator, and I did my own speedy-house-walking hour. Not a jog today, but plenty fast to raise the heart rate a bit, 10,200 steps worth. Thanks for the 'jog' to get me moving today!

Wow. That house jogging would be great for all you with the cold snap east of me. You would freeze your lips off outside now. Even we are below freezing but not like you gals.

My house is too small to jog in. Fortunately, we are above freezing today. Well, it's a bit of yes it's fortunate and a bit of yes, it's unfortunate. With the milder weather they did some digging up the road AND cut the gas line to some of us here in town. Again, a bad thing but also a good thing. Before I realized we had no heat, earlier I thought, hummm, I'm a bit chilly. I think I'll treadmill even though it's not a treadmill day. (I normally do it every other day.) SO, I worked out. I broke a little sweat but not that much and again thought, hummm, my hip has been bothering me and I didn't do the incline today. I guess that's why I didn't sweat so much. Anyhooo, as it turns out. I did work hard. I simply didn't realize the basement temp (where the treadmill is) was so low. I do hope we get heat soon although the temps tonight aren't going to be frigid. Just below freezing. I suppose I can always treadmill in the night to build up some warmth.

Ok did the talk so I had to do the walk. 45 min in 0 degrees which I believe is quite hot for Marple and rest of you.

Sometimes when I want to watch tv, I jog in place: five fast steps up, five back, repeat, repeat, repeat...no awards for beauty or grace but I can really get my heart rate going when I do this. For some odd reason, I often prefer this to a treadmill or an elliptical. I get into a rhythm and it's almost hypnotic.

Did said five up/five back for a half hour, then went to the gym to work out with weights with a trainer. He really put me through my paces!

I LOVE the idea of "house jogging"! I had family in over Thanksgiving, treated myself to a FULL massage (rather than the usual LE only) and found leg muscles very sore and tired. After thinking about it, it HAD to have been the many trips up and down the stairs to get the house ready for guests - I do go upstairs a couple times a week, but certainly not multiple times a day for several days in a row!!

Carol, I also like the idea of stepping during TV. I like my mini-trampoline, and wonder if I could work that in. And if I kept the light weights by the TV, maybe that would be motivating to get a few reps in as well. Kudos to all you who are out walking - I LOVE to walk but just cannot seem to get motivated or get my energy up enough to put the shoes on and walk out the door. Maybe it is loneliness. Much more fun to walk with someone, but I live in a rural community, not many neighbors nearby who walk, except one and she walks so fast I end up hurting my joints - it always feels SO GOOD to WALK FAST at a good pace, but then I end up paying the price for the next couple of weeks while the hips and knees settle down.

Routine was off during all the visiting, but did Lebed opening several times without the video - forgot a few things - today back with the video and added the next 3 sections. Had a rough time because my energy is in the minus range for the past few days. I keep thinking working more should increase my endurance, but I am finding it works just the opposite right now, and have been really down for several days after all the excitement of the weekend. Can it be the meds? Just ordinary fatigue? Who knows? And really, who cares? I am just accepting that today is a low energy day, I need rest, and I DID do some exercise anyway! So Brownie points for me! (any REAL brownies available? maybe I can find a box mix in my pantry that got re-arranged by my beloved sister) Happy

Linda, Being on meds is certainly the pits and you deserve many high 5's for  trying to move. You are an inspiration to me for sure. Walked 45 min and it was so cold. I swear I didn't sweat a drop.

No brownies in the house, but I found some of those refrigerator cookies I had apparently purchased at the grocery store for a "just in case" I need something quick for someone coming in for coffee or something. Chocolate chips did the trick!!! Winking

Snow day here today so off of work. First thing in the morning, the neighbor boy was knocking at my front door. He wanted to know if he could "take my snow off the sidewalk" to build a ramp down his front steps for his sled. I told him he could have all my snow for free so never had to shovel

. Later, I walked a block to pick up some new knitting needles, then hunkered down and made gingerbread people, reindeer, and Ninjas (decorated by the same neighbor child and his siblings) and knit. Not much in the way of exercise, but it was a fun December day.

Laural, that's just a different kind of exercise, and just as good for you as pounding the pavement. I can practically smell those gingerbread people!

mmmm ginger! I love it too! I got some airport speedy walking in yesterday, but no connecting flights so the time and distance weren't enough to get the four mile daily goal in. Tonight I should have a chance to make up for it, though!

Hugz - with all the nausea I've been dealing with, I have found the best gingersnaps. It is a modified version of Alton Brown's Gingersnaps. I don't add as much sugar as he does. But they do wonders for my nausea. I refrigerate the dough for an hour and then roll them into tiny little rounds, and they make bite size cookies. One cookie is enough to relieve the nausea for a while.

    Laural, love the cookies! YUM!

Did Lebed video all the way except the dance routine at the end. Had to take a short nap after THAT! Used 1 lb weights for 5 reps each arm biceps, triceps, and deltoid. No pain, felt like I could have done a dozen, but stopped myself. Have a women's church group meeting tonight, so probably will miss doing FlexiTouch, but have kept bandages on all day so I don't think I will have lost ground. Trying to set that routine for daily Lebed, then will work on getting out for my longer walks.

Not much of anything exciting today, except lunch out with DH.

    gmafoley, what's causing your nausea?

They don't know but they think now it is my pain meds. Gralise (timed-released Gabapentin). They started lowering the dose. The dizzy and nausea isn't quite as bad, but the nerve pain in my breast is back. This week, its the off balance, nausea, sweats and headache off and on with the breast pain. I think I'm just going to give up and be a couch potato at this point. I know I can't - its not in my nature. But this is crazy

Edit: First it was acid reflux - then the BPPV - now the meds.
