I do happen to enjoy the taste of prunes, aka dried plums. I may give this a try, as I also love anything frozen, or even just a bit frosty. Cream is not usually at hand, so I wonder if Greek yogurt would have the same effect. I guess I'd improvise on the cereal, as I won't find weetbix in my little town. Musical, you really outdid yourself with the photo how-to. Thanks!0

Carol, I was just thinking that it would work nicely with Greek yogurt. I often cut up fruit and mix with yogurt,, but I haven't tried using prunes in my fruit salad.

A favorite treat for me is to put about 1/3 cup frozen blueberries and a drop of lemon extract into a cup or so of regular (not Greek) plain, nonfat yogurt, and then stir for a minute or so. As the berries thaw, the yogurt thickens and gets cold, and I just love the icy berry bursts as I eat it. No need for sugar, at least to my taste. Sometimes I add a teaspoon or so of tart cherry juice concentrate. Mmmm!0
-
Ok I can see the wheatabix making it crunchy and the dairy icecreamie but the prunes have to go. Glad you all love the prunes, perhaps you can suggest this as a favorite dessert once you enter the old age home. Me....I'm going to stick to Greek yogurt with bluberries in the freezer and then top with granola.......I'm not ready to start prunes yet.may be when I'm in my rocking chair in twenty years.
Walked a mile and a quarter today.

Sorry girls, it wouldn't exactly win a prize for presentation but you saw it
hotcold off the press as it happens 365 or near to it and trust me, for prune lovers the taste more than makes up for it! Forgot to say it is critical to get this just so, or the Weetbix ends like slop. No like it. Also, the idea is to get the prune flavour all through the milk and cream. The Wbix MUST be crunchy and that's where the ice cold milk and cream do their wonders. Aww I love blueberries. I never use sugar with this. I don't have a sweet tooth anyway, but still haven't managed to ditch the last bit for tea and coffee.DO you guys not have access to real cream? We get our milk locally and organic. There's no processing or funny business and we get it at the farm gate. Now and then we'll grab a bottle of cream too .
Was thinking this was a bit OT but second thoughts -- no. I reckon we deserve a treat now and then.
The photography Carol, a bit rough and ready. Was a rush job as I'm busy fluffing around with my XP Pro install I did a couple of weeks ago. My old poots spat the dummy (PSU blew) so been stripping out parts (rescued HDD and RAM) putting them in my mums XP Home poots that's been lying around not doing anything. Was going to trash it, but Im soooo pleased I didn't. ANyway, lots of crashes and BSODs (Oh what fun!!!) getting drivers and what not sorted. Long story. Still ironing out some USB wrinkles.

Back to some serious butt kicking here, Even walked in the rain today,
Keep it up girls. Today is a good day to start even a 5 min program!
0 -
OK, show-off with your serious butt-kicking! Good for you, rain and all! I'm moving but it's all physical therapy. I suppose that's a start. When I no longer fear losing my balance, I'll slide back into a real exercise program.

and I swear I'll get back to walking as soon as this current renovation is done,,, carpet taken out of bedroom and tile being put down. The bedroom furniture is in the living room and I'm sleeping in my office on the sofa bed. It will be worth it,,, but things are a little crazy right now!
0 -
Glennie, it sounds like you are competing in the obstacle course event. What a project!0
-
LOL,, it is a project,, but it is the final step of the carpet removal and alternate flooring put down. Whew!! but if you could see my office,,,, which is where I work 8 hours a night! The dog bed is in here now, cuz after all she has to sleep here too,,, and once I open up the sofa bed,, there is practically no floor space left! It will be great to be done with this!
0 -
glennie, be careful with that reno. I have to remind myself not over do it. Its so easy to get caught up in a project when you just want it done. Take frequeent rests.
Carol, i just know your going move your body once you heal.your physio counts as exercuse because its sure not sitting on your duff eating cake.

Siiting on my butt eating cake sounds good right now, hugz

hugz: I have big strong men doing the work!! I just supervise. I do occasionally move furniture, mainly because I've been painting my bedroom furniture,, but I get help to move it,, or I use magic sliders to help out. Between the LE and the carpal tunnel,, I have had to learn to pace myself. SUCKS big time,, but you do what you have to.
And did someone say cake???

ok cake eaters....I had a cookie .....ugh actually 2 but I went for walkies and stretches today. Tomorrow my special gym is giving me a nutritional private class. I am just going to admit that my portions are out of control. I mean my speggetti portions could feed a small nation! I hope they can educate me to stop the portion insanity
Well you might be successful with portion size by feeding me musicalsprune recipe above. Still trying to imagine that combo musical!

hugz, not sure what others have for cereal, but I *think* Weetbix may be just a NZ thing and maybe Oz too. Not everyone likes prunes but there's probably other things you can substitute. I'm curious, do you not get real cream in the US?
As for cookies and bikkies, we generally don't have them. Out of sight out of mind, but I admit I'm not really tempted except for chocolate cake that's not too sweet. If that's around, well, who knows what might happen! Living rurally helps too. You don't just nick off to the shop.
Had some good resistance exercise this a.m. I'm talking WINDY (ie almost gale force). I used a bit of strategy though. I did the long stint with the wind to my back. I walk more or less the length of our road and our place is sort of mid way, so I can start off in either direction. If I start off in head on wind, it means its done in 2 sections. It does make a difference!

So my wonderful handyman gave me a one-person canoe with a double paddle that he wasn't using! I have a pond behind me so I was thinking I would take an voyage around the bend this weekend. LE therapist said to wear my sleeve! It is on the bank, so I can just slide it down to the water and flip it. Think it will be manageable!

I bought a water proof Fit Bit Flex last week and am aiming for 10,000 steps a day. So far, 5/7 days I reached the goal. I can wear it in my Water Aerobics class, but it is limited to only exercises that involve the arm moving, so loose out on all the leg work. Off to the Smokies tomorrow for a long weekend with my best friends from work. Can't wait to do some hiking and some laughing, and some more laughing. Great to hear of everyone's latest adventures and exercise attempts this week. Keep putting one foot in front of the other...

Musical, yes we have Weetbix in Canada and I like it. Here is my sweet treat. Frozen blueberries in yogurt with granola on top.stir it up and it freezes like your concoction. I think your recipe is very healthy BTW.
I grew up on farm cream and milk. There is no substitute. You have to know someone with cows to get it around here as commercially they want it pasterized. I miss it so much.
How far is your windy walk?
Glennie. That canoe sounds great. Carol will be thinking of you paddling as she misses kayaking due to bum arm.j Just be careful and not overdue it on the arms. Saw a paddle board class doing yogi on their boards a couple weeks ago. Now that looked awesome.
Laurel. Hey that Fitbit sounds motivating. My gym told me today to strap on my pedometer or get a fit bit. I'll try my pedometer and see what I can churn out on that during my walk. Your doing so good. I hear the smokies are beautiful. Me jealous. Speaking of laughing anyone done laughter yoga. It real works, I get a high from it. All that belly laughing. So much fun and you get so much oxygen. Try a you tube one. At first i felt stupid but then really got into it

I feel so ripped off because I have a cold and my special gym still charges 25 for my missed session. It's sunny here so I will try to do a easy walk later today.
My gym has me food journaling everyday now and they are determined to get me healthier.
At least I can't taste anything so not eating much. Maybe I will slim down a bit and hoping then my stomach will shrink to a size of a pee! I wish!

glennie, that pond sounds great. How many of us can say we have a pond nearby like that!
Hugz The walk is approx 2 miles a day. I HAVE to do it early in the morning because of peripheral neuropathy and burning feet. Im at my best first thing. Summer is far worse. I simply have to manage everything around PN. If I do that then things are doable. Mostly. I'm pretty cheesed off with having no dreadmill. Want to get another, but once bitten twice shy about skanky dealers. No treadmill means I can't walk on the very worst days. Our springs can be pretty wild here.
This may not work for everyone, but I've found this scenario happens a lot. The less I eat, the less I want to eat. The more I eat the hungrier I get. I could do better in taking advantage of this, more than I do.
Need to eat my words too...I think it was the day I said we dont have bikkies etc, was when hubby brought home 4 of those little sample thingies. They were chocolate bars. I confess to eating one and tasting the others. TOOO sweet yukkkk.

musical, walking outside is so much more healthier if your near trees. They give off oxygen and we could all use more off that! I feel great after a hike the the trees.
I'd like to see a pic of that pond.sounds delightfu

musical, I too find that when it comes to the stomach, the more you give it, the more it wants. Especially if you're giving it anything sweet. Life is tough!
I love frozen blueberries in yogurt too, as it thickens up the yogurt and makes the whole affair creamy. I drizzle in our wonderful Michigan tart cherry juice concentrate and sometimes toss in a few nuts. I use plain, unsweetened yogurt. Yum!

I tried out the canoe this weekend, and it is awesome. I took it really slow paddling around the pond and didn't go far,, it was just a test drive, as I hadn't been canoeing in ages. But I really like it,, and I'll be doing more in the future.

Photo carol? Sounds yummy. When I used to have icecream (the biggest food sacrifice I've made -- too much sugar and soy) Id put walnuts in it. YUM. I love unsweetened yoghurt, but I don't get it because I cant find one that hasn't got additives in it like soy or aspartame or some other nasty.
Another thing I do as a compromise (hate that word) for icecream, is :
1/ get an only just ripe banana -- put in the freezer as is. (Skin will skin go black but banana stays as it would've if you just peeled it )
2/ When ready to use, get out and leave for about a minute. Use a knife to make a longitudinal slice just to the skin level and on the "inside" of the banana.
3/ prize open with your fingers and the skin will come off as a jacket. If the skin tears or sticks to the banana just leave for another minute or so.
4/ dice and put in bowl or suitable container for whizzing
5/ pour in VERY COLD milk and if its a special time a little cream too!
6/ Add cocoa to taste
Thats it. Whizz up into a thick cold drink and YUM

Musical, I often make my own yogurt, but I do buy it when work travels make my life too busy. I use organic milk and almost always strain it to make Greek yogurt. Not for the frozen berries though--that works best with un-strained yogurt. I don't care for sweetened yogurt, nor do I want it to have gelatin in it, or artificial sweeteners, or anything. Your banana/cocoa concoction sounds heavenly!
Today I (finally!!) got some half-decent cardio in. I had my twice-weekly PT session for the shoulder, and that's coming along nicely but oooohhhh the ache and sore about two hours afterward. Right after PT today I had to drive three hours to a work destination, and I was stiff and sore in the shoulder and arm on arrival. So after I got settled in the hotel, I opened up a good old Leslie Sansone video on my laptop and did three miles of her 'walking.' I've been out of cardio so long that I was able to get the heart rate up without trying too hard, and between the Leslie workout and my normal walking around the house and other incidental steps, I reached my fitbit 10,000. And as always works for me, the stiff-and-sore muscles feel much, much better after getting the blood moving. Also a mood lifter. I learned this past week that my mother has been diagnosed with lung cancer, with liver mets. She stopped smoking 48 years ago, so this seems so unfair, and she survived BC from age 38. At 85 she feels she's not going to put up a fight, and we're all supportive of her palliative care decision, but still...plenty of sad thoughts are poking around in our family. Exercise is such a powerful way to get a little break from that!
Glennie, hooray on enjoying the canoe! To me, there's nothing like being on the water with a paddle. I just love the motion, being outdoors, the wildlife, the sun on my face.

Thank you, glennie. We're not immortal, but knowing that and accepting it are two different things. Hugs are so therapeutic!

Carol very gentle hugs about your mum. Some things you just can't prepare for and this is one of them. We just don't know what life is going to deal out to us. My mum is 90, but in dementia care. The quality of life is not great at all.
Every time I see 10,000 it reminds me of that pedometer I was given at chemo. I think it was the first one was faulty, the second one I dropped down the loo, so that was that.
If I could find a way to make my own yoghurt with the "excess baggage" I'd love to have a go at making it.

Musical, thank you. Making yogurt is not hard, it's just long. The only tricky part is having a way to control the temperature to the required low level for many hours. I have a little folding box meant to give a steady warm temperature when bread dough is rising, and I can bring up the temp to what's needed for yogurt. But if you check the internet, people have come up with lots of ways to control the temperature. Or buy a yogurt maker, but that gets pricy for a single-function gadget.0
