On the self-care front, I've been in a flare-up on a business trip for a couple of days. I'm thinking not enough water, too much coffee, and most of all restaurant food. To take car did myself I have found time to elevate my arm, perform my self-care routine, made sure to ask for low sodium, cut my coffee and upped my water, and most of all I need to have patience that when I get into a flare-up, I just do not feel as well. Good job to all with your self care today. I've been consistent with my yoga also - which generally helps. I have an issue going on where my implant moved out to the side a couple of weeks ago. I'm thinking it also might be leading to some lump blockage. I've been more swollen ever since. My doc is going to scan me in March but not before then unless I really have an issue impacting my health. Today I'm really really tired from all of this.

Thought you would like to see this:

Received my 3 month diet research study results yesterday. I was on the diet they were actually studying.

    Lost:

    12.216 lbs

    11.5 inches in the waist

    5 inches in the hips

    Cholesterol dropped 41 points

    Triglicerides dropped 55 points

    HDL down 4 points

    BMI is down 2.3 points

The total weightloss from the group was 500 lbs. I think she said there were 53 of us.

The 2-day diet was more successful that the 1500 cal diet. Also they said that 78% of the study group stuck it out until the end. I hear that is something that doesn't usually happen.

I am sticking with this - I have quite a bit of weight to lose still. So keep me accountable ladies - if you don't hear from me PM me - it goes to my email and you can remind me you are watching!

Still not back to walking,, but I am making decent progress with my little hand weights and have been consistently doing them 3 times a week. Did them today,,, and I did the Lebed opening exercises. Actually put in the video for a refreshing on it. Those women smile like they are on good drugs,, and if they are,, damn it, why aren't they sharing??

Plan for New Year: continue with weight progression. Must get some cardio going on the opposite days. Walking? Something.

Oh man - ladies - I saw my primary and when she asked me how my knee was doing from the last time she saw me (15 months ago), I had to say, climbing stairs isn't real good, lots of popping and grinding. Told her light rebounder doesn't seem to bother it. She was happy with my other progress (reconstruction/reduction/weightloss) but wanted me to get a knee Xray - guess I have spurs between the patella and femur, and "mild degenerative" signs. Whatever all this means.... She wants me to go to PT but I put it off until after my final revision next week. What do you all think? Should I make an appt right away with pt or just wait until all my incisions heal?

How long does it take to get an appt for PT in your area? It can take a couple of weeks here,, so you could go ahead and just make an appt. for a couple of weeks after your surgery. If it is not impacting your life too badly,,, I see no reason why it can't wait a couple more weeks. Just my opinion.

SO MANY women on this thread striving and doing great things to help with health and lymphedema. I'm inspired. My victory today was I truly wanted to be a couch potato and not so my yoga. But I thought about how much the yoga helps me and I pushed on through and went. Most of the time I go to evening yoga, my arm is less swollen that night.to me it's very clear my yoga is possibly my biggest tool in the LE Arsenal. Happy I got after it today. Never give up

    Hi GmaFoley,

I also have bone spurs in my knee along with bone on bone degeneration. I find if I keep activity going it helps. I find the water aerobics the easiest on my knees. I also take Triple Flex (an over the counter chondroitin, MSM, and glucosamine supplement) daily and Diclofenac (prescription) for pain management. I have a reaction knee brace which i wear if the knees becomes particularly painful and it has helped a lot. The brace can be worn under clothing as it is rather unusual looking. This is a video clip of the brace. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVy6tlcNrMI If you can get some physical therapy, you may find it helpful to get some good exercises to support the knee, as well as look at the best activities for you. Good luck with it all.

I really do wish I could kick LEs butt. Today I felt like it kicked mine. I went to Accupuncture and yoga and I will hopefully be doing better tomorrow.

new to this board. Wish I didn't need to be here. I feel the WBR and nodal "fry" really got me here. Had a flare about one month after finishing rads. Kicked into high gear with a heavy purse strap for a week, moving heavy stuff without a sleeve, and a too tight sports bra. Wearing swell spots every night with compression camisole and compression shirt. Making progress ( along with twice weekly PT sessions). MLD in the shower daily, but haven't gotten into the small exercise/small movement stuff yet. Have kinesio tape on for the first time--past four days. Working? Not sure if my skin can handle the adhesive for the rest of my life. Does yoga really help mariasnow? My awesome acupuncturist is left behind in SF, haven't connected with anyone else like her. We shared the same authors. She was Dx at 24.

I just had revision surgery - getting all 75 stitches out tomorrow - I am happy to announce I only gained 1 lb over the holidays - Was basically able to stay on the research meal plan. Even though the study is done, I'm going to stick to it. I think I have at least a couple of weeks before I start exercising again.

The holidays were very relaxing and filled with family, food, and deep couch sitting. Now back to work and getting the eating back to healthy and upping the exercise in order to part with these few extra pounds gifted to me by Christmas celebrations Happy Hope all of you had an enjoyable holiday time and that we will soon hear from all as you swing into the New Year.

I had wonderful holidays and lovely times. I also had a big lymphedema flare-up after New Year's Eve that lasted several days. I always have swelling - it is just a matter of how much. I'm working on accepting its part of my life. I was good with the exercise but bad with the food and alcohol. I also flew. On a good note, I flew round trip across the country and went on one hell of a bender and my swelling is back to its usual state in just a few days. It seems to follow my yoga closely. More yoga, less swelling.

I did 30 minutes on the elliptical today . . . four radiation days left. I think I will try to use this thread to try to get my health back.

Awesome, egg!! I had a really really rough post-holiday week. The going off-track thing with my diet and exercise made me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sick. I now have several days of taking care of myself under my belt and things are getting better. Amazing how that works

That's great! I am trying out (don't laugh) some Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies DVD's. I feel horribly out of shape !!

I too go back to Richard when I want a home video to get me moving. They are fun moves and not as much torque on the knees as some of my Beachbody stuff. Moving is good...keep it up, Glennie! I have been putting in 4 to 5 hours in the water a week. Work has been incredibly busy and full of lots of irons in the fire. This old brain wasn't meant to keep track of so many things all at the same time.

I feel ridiculously proud of myself: My cardiologist gave me a progressive exercise prescription to help me recover from chemo-couchpotato-out-of-shapeness, and I've stuck with it for 8 days :) No biggie, started with two 15-min "workouts" per day, either brisk walks or very low resistance exercise biking. Before I started, I had to pause and catch my breath going up even one flight of stairs, or walking half a block, and the oncs (and I) were concerned about heart damage from the chemo. Nope, just horribly out of shape. Well, now stairs are no problem, I've already increased biking to 25-30 min., and walking my dear elderly doggy is once again a pleasure :) I'm still not up to restarting my old neck and back strengthening exercises --- tried once and cried, muscle strength is just GONE. But maybe another try soon...

This community has been a life and sanity saver for me. I am eternally grateful to all you kind, wonderful women <3 Thank you

You should be proud, Tessu. I remember returning to my job in the schools post chemo, carrying my equipment to work with students. i went to climb the stairs to the second floor and thought to myself, "When did they add another flight of stairs to get to the second floor?". Funny looking back now, but the 4 months of getting through the treatments does a number on your body. Keep up the dedication to your exercise plan. It took me almost a year to feel fully back, but I was able to complete a half marathon (walking fast) 1-1/2 years out from my treatments. Congrats to you on your successes.

Just completed my fifth round in a row of Lymphedema PT recommended exercise routine... did everyone get that list? Amazed how good I feel, but the tricep exercise is definitely going to come along slower than everything else. The place I am at only has 5 pound weights... I think I may just use my water bottle instead. Anyone have trouble with typing? It makes something in my arm burn... a nerve or a tendon that runs from my wrist to my armpit. That's my living, so I'm a little concerned....

    PS Good job, Tessu!

List? What list?? I didn't get no stinkin' list.

Yes, my place only has 5 lb weights too,, so I do mine at home with my smaller weights.

My LE therapist has said that typing can be a trigger for a flare,,, just to mention.

Ok, Glennie19, thank you, that's what I needed. I can already tell. In fact I am done typing for the day. I'll post my exercises next 24 hours or so!

sorry, but having a backslde: no bike for two days, but Monday was crazy busy, and Tuesday (yesterday) had my first Herceptin-only treatment, and was advised not to do anything strenuous. Hoping SEs from the Herceptin won't be too limiting..

Happy and proud to be part of a group who keeps at it. I went to yoga tonight, which makes 2 nights in a row.
