Sorry to hear about your mother, Carol. We all know we are mortal, but it doesn't make it any easier to let go of loved ones when it is their time. Sending hugs and prayers for all of you. I had a great weekend with my ladies from work hiking around the Smoky Mountains. The trees were so beautiful and we practiced lots of belly yoga (a.k.a laughing) throughout our 4 days together. I feel very blessed. We put in 7 miles one day and 5 miles the next just meandering through the woods. We even got to see a bear about 100 feet off our trail. He must have heard 5 crazy ladies coming down the path, because he turned tail and ran down the mountain...smart bear Happy I would love to be closer to the mountains as the walks were lovely.

Laural, thank you for your supportive thoughts. Much appreciated! And wow, what a wonderful time you had with friends. Good friends, good weather, Mother Nature's autumn finery...and exercise! The best kind of exercise, too, when it doesn't feel like work. Call me jealous--tonight I did another round of Leslie Sansone in-place walking video. In a hotel room. I'm not complaining about work, which I enjoy and feel lucky to have, but I do sometimes regret how work travel forces some second-best exercise choices.

And your hip was up to 7 and 5 miles of what I imagine to be up-and-down trail walking? You're amazing. It really has not been that long since your replacement. Bully for you!

musical, that banana deal sounds tasty, love how you say to use real cold milk. Remember as a kid drinking it so cold and creamy yellow. Our farmer wouldnt give his cows salt licks and they were so healthy and did not smell like cows usually do.

Carol I am sorry about the cancer beast rearing up again after so many cancerfree years for mom.You must be still so proud of her not smoking for 48 years. What a feat. My sis is worried about a ache in my moms rib for the last 2 months, doc says it's fine, I had the chat with my sis saying that's if was cancer at age 91 the treament would kill her. Its all about quality of life at this stage of life but it moms decision in the end. I think maybe its a briused rib. We were fortunate to have the top pain doc at our palliative center within our area and she made my dad so comfortable with his COPD and double phuemonia at life end. A good pain doc is worth the effort to find.

Amost forgot about leslie sansone.way to go carol!

Laurel. That is just what I pictured the smokey mounts to look like, stunning pics!

    Glennie...hooked on canoeing.sounds peaceful.

Feeling better and kicked butt today. 40 min walk

Next time hugz I whizzy one up I should post a pik. You'd be sure to drool! Bananas are really strange things. They don't really freeze solid hard and they thaw very quickly....hence must have the cold cold milk. It's a real treat if you're hot. It's said that bananas actually cool you off. I don't know why that is but I've found its true.

No breaking the speed limit here on my morning walks lol.

Laural, WOW what lovely colours in that top pik!

Ok gals, I have been really working hard this last month and my cardio has increased. I'm so happy that I am on the up with this exercise thing.

Carol thinking of you and your bum arm and all the other awful things that have gone on in your life lately. It was so nice to read in your other post that your family is a good support to mom. I was shocked to hear that she was fading so fast. Thinking of you much. I hope you can etch out a bit of time to still do your physio. I would hate for you to regress.

hugz, thank you so very much for your kind thoughts. I figure that if I'm regressing on the arm PT, I can always recapture and move forward. And I am indeed so lucky to have family that can so ably rally around my parents. All of us are most concerned about my father, age 88, but he is well loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren who are all doing a great job of supporting without taking over. The speed of her disease progression is astonishing, but she was and is resolved to have palliative care only, and so it's a blessing if things speed along to minimize her fears and her discomfort.

And hugz, nice work on upping your cardio. Only I need you to do twice as much, because I think you're doing it for both of us. Not so much exercise going on my way, and also, they don't call it 'comfort food' for nothing. That's all I'll say!

Resorting to really old methods this week in order to keep up with our 10,000 Step Challenge running this whole month at work. The old Richard Simmons exercise tapes came out. This challenge is in its 3rd week, and I am well on target to achieve the 280,000 steps by the end of the 4th week. It takes some real planning to get in sufficient steps. If I work with kids all day, I can get in 6,000+ steps in a day, but have had lots of meetings these past few weeks. I have been able to leave the "Obese" BMI category and am now in the "overweight" category. Still doing water aerobics twice weekly, taking several long walks each week, and adding in the oldies exercise tapes. Feels good to be moving more, just wish it left a few more hours in my day to get to all the Thankschristgivingmas preparations done. All 3 of my adult kids will be coming home at Thanksgiving to celebrate not only Thanksgiving, but then Christmas over the weekend. Can't wait to see them all!

    Wow - Great going Laural!

Hugz told me I should join you all. I think I was here about 4 years ago and was in too much pain to exercise. I am off all pain meds now since my breast reconstruction/reduction surgery last December. Had a few complications but the nerve pain I suffered with for those 4 years - IS GONE...

I joined a research study at the oncology center for comparing 2 different diets. Part of the meal plan I received was exercise. Problem one - I live 40 minutes from a gym and/or park to walk. Problem 2 - my knees hurt when I walk. So worked with my acupuncturist and LE therapist on what to do - I got myself a rebounder and just lightly bounce on it. In the process of this meal plan and exercise - I have lost 10 lbs and lost some visceral fat - that is the bad stuff for breast cancer. Anyway, this is my last week in the study. I get weighed in on the 1st of Dec. I want to keep going and need encouragement to keep going. Without the weekly call to see how I'm doing, I won't be accountable to anyone and for me, that is a bad thing.

Anyway - this morning I bounced for 7.18 minutes and got in 813 bounces. I will relay my total for the day later.

Sandcastle - with sturdy shoes and light bouncing, I have not had any trouble with my bad knee. BUT I would always ask your doctor before starting it.

Marijen - it also says for 10 minutes on the rebounder it is worth 30 minutes of walking... and yes I find it does help with the meal plan I am on. My legs, butt and tummy are also firming up.

Gma: does your rebounder count the bounces? Wondering about that. Don't push it if you are feeling off!
