RE: Awesome heart. Beat the test!

Wow, hugz ! See, all that exercise has paid off!
That gym sounds SO awesome! (and pricey :>(

I just started at the senior center gym yestetdayd1 Still using a cane ( 2 broken ankles and broke dominant arm JULY 2017) , but my PT says I am ready to start very slowly. Scary due to the osteoporosis. I do Thank God I refused the arimidex in my situation ( had osteopenia at the time and a hx of a few breaks already under my belt) Can't look bad.

I was once a SR CTR. DIRECTOR, and now this :>)
Life sure can be a trip ( no pun intended) Singing

A good LE Lana Certified therapist will measure your arms first, examine them well for fibrosis, pitting etc ...

Next, she may do a session of manual lymphatic drainage and should TEACH YOU to do it as well. She will keep your measurements on her laptop for comparison purposes.

Normally, you may wear a cami and be covered with a sheet if you are wondering.

In another session, your therapist may ( or may not) decide to you need to be wrapped to determine just how much your swelling might come down. This is highly individual.

Once your swelling is at its baseline ( as good as it gets) the therapist will measure to have your fitted for a sleeve and glove or gauntlet. Again, you should have MLD or ASK for it. Be proactive and go with your list of questions!

    Those are the basics.

Go to the site hugz suggested for more info - they are the best, and please post back and let us know how things go!

How's the new gym going purple and gardengypsy how's your exercises. Iripped the treadmill up today. Almost made it smoke. Ha.Now if I could only get eating under control!

    Eating popcorn as I type

hugz - popcorn while typing would never work for me because I eat it dripping with real melted butter. And real salt. No calories in the popcorn itself tho, right?

Went to Silver Sneakers class yesterday and did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I missed Thursday for some conflict. I could really tell when my muscles didn't want to stretch. Doing computer stuff today so only finger exercises. AND of course stopping to pump my right arm every 30 min or so.

This thread is a good for me. If I miss a day not doing some exercise, I feel guilty.

I was doing ok, but during the past couple of days I have been taking care of family stuff and got off my routine. Missed two classes. Don't feel good about myself at all.

Garden. Family stuff is horrible for squashing our routines. Best if you can get right back into it otherwise other things get in the way to.

Minus. Ah buttered popcorn. Those were the days. Now I do mostly olive oil with butter on it. Tastes good but nothing beats butter. Remember the good ole days when we were kids. We use to butter our toast then peanut butter on top. Delicious. Keep up the silver sneakers so we can enjoy a barbecue or a few this summer coming. All that silver sneaker muscle will burn up that juicy steak and spud.

2fun. It sounds like you have kept up a routine and your in shape so you can do heavy type exercise with lifting and yoga poses etc. That's great.

If you even had one node out then Just remember to keep a eye on the arm for any unusual weird type feelings or swelling with the intense exercise program your doing.

Not sure if you have LE but us girls start out with one pound weights and work our way up one pound at a time. It's s l o w but we eventually get our weights up. This way we can tell which type of weight or activity flares us and also it keeps us from flaring because it's done gradually. The program I'm on is called PAL developed from a university study. It works and I'm happy. If I quit for a couple weeks then I have to scale way back on my weights almost back to the beginning. Ugh phooey.

Thanks for your encouragement 2fun. Let us know how work goes. Welcome back to the working world.

ok, so this is how my brain is messed up. I NEVER realized I was posting on the LE thread. So sorry! I do not have LE, but I had right side and pelvic nodes removed, so I have been keeping an eye on legs as well as upper extremity. It is a wierd thing, how much do you jump back in to activity, and how much do you slowly ease in. My nodes were removed in Oct 2016, pelvic nodes in jan 2017. I am now just getting back into activity. Since I don't have a LE DX, I will refrain from posting. But I will read and cheer you all on!

2FUN - oh you're more than welcome to post since we ALL at risk after BC surgery. Here is a valuable link you may want to review http://stepup-speakout.org/

As for starting back, as Hugz says, start slowly & work up. That has been the hardest part for me. I hate doing slow & half, but it has kept me from progression.

I've been getting on my eliptical since I started working M-F again. For some reason my eliptical at home is harder than the one I used at the gym. Starting at 15 minutes and working my way up each morning.

Garden. I had a set back to. Dear friend got married and I was entertaining friends from abroad. I still went to gym but made the dumb choice of eating all the wedding food that was offered. Didn't say no to desert, candy bar, wine etc etc. Ugh! Of course there was no extra exercise factored in! Went to gym yesterday and waiting for rain to slow down for the dog to walk me

Homemom. Yup all my gym stuff is harder to do at home. It's because we are distracted at the gym, pumped up, music blaring and we're ready to Go Go Go! At home it's just unmotivating for me. I stare at equipment and it stares back. Dang it snyway

Hugz - you'll love this 'home exercise' story. At one time I bought a machine that was a cross between a rowing machine and an elliptical. I used it about a month, then It made a really good clothes hangers for many years. After my Mom died and I had a moving van delivering some of her furniture, I gave the exercise machine to the drivers. I totally agree about motivation at the gym.

Me too gardengypsy. I went to the sliver sneakers class and then walked 1-1/4 miles on the treadmill. In know, I know - a mile is no big deal. But at least if I keep this up I'm doing something.

Garden. Yes my brain literally gets all sludged up if I don't move. March on girl.

Too bad I didn't have a step counter yesterday. We have a subdivision swimming pool - run by volunteer labor as these things always go. Other than bathrooms & supply rooms, there are is only a porch (or portico) so of course no A/C. I was up there by 8:30am and was still there at 6:30pm last night while a bunch of contractors did needed repairs - plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, fence guys. I trimmed bushes & trees, posted rules for the new year, scrapped 'mud wasp' nests from ceilings to baseboards, walked around & around the outside fence picking up trash & reviewing the repairs, stocked TP, emptied skimmers at the pool, stacked chairs, moved bags of mulch, threw away tons of 'stuff', etc. The high was only 85 yesterday and there was a nice breeze so I just kept steadily moving.

This really is the opposite of a whine. I was up there 4 'half days' earlier in the week when it was MUCH more humid. At the end of the day I was amazed that I apparently had a good bit of my stamina back. I am really grateful that I can "go & do" again. Of course it's not like installing a new roof, which I wouldn't try anymore because of the repetitive hammering. But hey...I made the whole day and really wasn't even dragging until after 6pm. Maybe I can become somewhat of an "energizer bunny" again - or at least his distant cousin. Added benefit - I didn't stop to eat so I lost 2 lbs. Yeah, it's mostly water, but that's 5 lbs for the week.

wow, that's great! It's an interesting feeling when you stop and remember whst you used to be able to do. Back at work I'm putting over 10K steps in every day. Plus exercising with the kids. We are doing work with a 5 pound weighted ball, sit ups, planks, etc. X 10 kids a day. I was SO tired by Friday. We went out for dinner to celebrate DS'S last day of high school and I has a hard time standing up after sitting for awhile. Today I feel good, so I just have to keep building on that!

    2Fun~ Are you a teacher?

Nine hours in the garden today. Wicked sore, waiting for the Ibuprofen to kick in.

    Good work ladies.

You can post here anytime - it is a welcoming group ( but REALLY hope you never join as a LE gal!)
Take it slow , but sure.

Hang in and take care of YOURSELF

    HUGZ
I am doing 'okay' at the new gym aka as the senior center :>) Things were going pretty well, but one 60 min class of ' gentle exercise' had the last half hr as arm exercises and so I take those 30 mins and walk a bit ( 10 mins or more as the ankle tolerates) and some of the ppl are 90 yrs old and dont get it.

There was a woman there with an arthritis glove on and I asked her privately if she had LE and she said yes. I told her about rememberbetty.com but she said Rays of Hope was getting her sleeves and she seemed like she was annoyed by me so I let it go ... and I SURE do get it and don't want to invade her. I understand.

Ankle has flared recently ( torn ligaments) as I am done with PT and the girl there did fabulous kinesio taping, and I believe I am doing a botch job.

Just wanting to touch base and say

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all of you ladies who are or had a mother ! (LOL)

garden gypsy, I'm a PT in the public schools. Thus the exercising. I am a bit worried that all this exercise is a bit too much. My TE was really bugging.me by the end of the week. Both of my arms are really sore. How did you guys know you had LE? I think that's why I'm hanging around this thread. I have had more cancers, complications etc, and I figure it's just a matter of time b4 LE rears it's ugly head. Thanks for being understanding.
